In the January transfer window, sports witness AS Roma's interest in Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee has been consistently covered.
It was believed that the player was interested in a switch to the Giallorossi. The Italian side tried hard but could not match the Red Devils' price for attacking.
Despite his wishes, Zirkzee never felt pressured to leave Manchester United. He was also injured for a few weeks at the end of January, and has yet to make a single start under Michael Carrick.
The Dutchman was never really an important player for Rubén Amorim, who often used Matheus Cunha as a striker.
Now the regrets are coming to the fore and Zirkzee could potentially return to Italy soon.
Manchester United wants €30 million deal
IT migration market Today report that initially, Zirkzee was eager to prove himself to Carrick. That simply hasn't happened and as a result, he is likely to return to Italy in the summer.
As of now, Juventus are the frontrunners for him, even though several clubs are interested.
The Bianconeri are very likely to lose Dusan Vlahovic in the summer. The Serbian's contract expires at that time and there are no signs of renewal. Jonathan David hasn't consistently left his mark, Lois Openda's contract was a complete failure.
This has led to Juve considering a move for Zirkzee, who would be interested in a switch.
A deal could now be cheaper than previously thought, with Manchester United demanding €30m. In January, that price was closer to €40m, ensuring Roma failed to make his move.
Manchester United's exit could help Zirkzee
Over the past few weeks, it has been clear that the 24-year-old's tenure at Old Trafford is on its final legs.
Carrick has already used Brian Mbumo and Benjamin Cesco more regularly. Even though Zirkzee has been available on the bench, he has seen very limited minutes.
Things could still change but it seems the striker does not have a long-term future at Manchester United.
Link-up strikers have always thrived in Luciano Spalletti's system, as evidenced by his use of Victor Osimhen at Napoli. David has also shown glimpses of this when he is doing well.
That's why Zirkzee's move to Juve could be a good move for the former Bologna player. He still has a lot of fans in Italy and now is the time for him to take advantage of this opportunity.
