When the Miami Heat lost to the Philadelphia 76ers on February 26, Bam Adebayo expressed his disappointment in competing regularly in the NBA Play-in Tournament. Since that difficult admission, he has been doing everything in his power to get the team into the real playoffs. The three-time All-Star is on par in March and Miami is following suit. Adebayo soared to historic highs Tuesday night, temporarily forcing fans to revisit one of the NBA's most beloved records.
The 28-year-old big man scored 31 points in the first quarter against the Washington Wizards, making 10 of 16 shots from the field and draining five 3-pointers. According to Zachary Weinberger of ClutchPoints, he was on pace to surpass Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point performance, an immortal feat that has stood as a benchmark for more than 60 years. Adebayo slowed down in the fourth quarter, but still went into halftime with an excellent 43 points. Miami led 76–62 at the break.
The Heat are in position to capture their sixth consecutive win on Career Night. When the team and fan base need him most, Adebayo is carrying himself like a true captain. People are applauding Tuesday's monstrous effort.
