On Tuesday evening, the Philadelphia 76ers got back in the win column with a home win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The story of this game was point guard Cameron Payne, who scored 32 points on an astonishing 8-8 shot from beyond the three-point line, giving the 76ers a huge boost after recently signing there.
Unfortunately, Payne's night, and everything that happened in the NBA on Tuesday, was overshadowed by Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo's historic 83-point explosion in a blowout win over the Washington Wizards.
However, that wasn't going to stop Payne from feeling himself after his historic game against Memphis.
"To be honest, I was worried about Cam Payne," Cam Payne said to the ex, formerly of PhillyVoice, on Twitter, according to Adam Aronson. "Bombs can't take over my night... March 10th, it's all me."
The Grizzlies controlled the game for most of the night before turning out their starters in a blatant tanking effort in the fourth quarter, after which Philadelphia immediately responded with a 20–2 run.
The 76ers learned earlier in the day that star guard Tyrese Maxey will be out of the lineup for at least three weeks after injuring his hand in a recent road loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Philadelphia has been declining in the rankings due to injury absences in recent weeks, with the team being overtaken by the Heat and falling into the play-in region as the season approaches its home stretch.
The 76ers will be desperately hoping that Joel Embiid will be able to return from injury at some point in the near future, and are also counting down the days until Paul George's suspension ends.
In any case, the 76ers will next take the field on Thursday evening for a tough road game against the Detroit Pistons.
