Elia Caprile has come a long way since his time at Leeds United. Aston Villa have been mentioned as suitors for the goalkeeper, with his agent speaking about his future.
The Italian joined Cagliari on loan from Napoli in January 2025. Since then, he has played 50 times in all competitions, and has become a key player for the Sardinian side.
This has allowed him to remain in and around the Italian national team, with major Serie A teams keeping a close eye on him.

earlier this month, sports witness Covered claims about interest from Aston Villa, approaching the departure of Emi Martínez. Caprile's agent has now hinted at the fact that several clubs have been monitoring the goalkeeper for some time now.
Caprile focused on the present
Graziano Battistini of the GB1 agency spoke to Style TV about his client's future. He made it clear that the former Leeds player is focused on the present, even though the list of suitors is growing.
He said- relayed by calciocastedu: : "I will only focus on the present because right now Elia needs to continue to play his role in the league so that Cagliari can achieve its goals."
While focusing on the suitors, Battistini insisted that interest from clubs does not mean a deal is done. Any team has a long way to go before they can find a keeper.
"It is true that the boy is being monitored by high-level clubs. But being monitored is one thing, discussing and completing a deal is another."
This comes just after Aston Villa's interest in the Italian was once again highlighted, with Unai Emery's side pursuing the player. Tottenham are doing the same, with Guglielmo Vicario linked with an exit from the London side.
Aston Villa is a big leap forward for Caprile
It's fair to say that the 24-year-old definitely deserves a transfer from Cagliari soon. He has impressed enough to earn a big transfer, which explains why the likes of Inter Milan and AC Milan are also keen.
That jump – including a potential move to Aston Villa – will take some effort. Elia Caprile is the perfect age, but the next step isn't always the right one.
Unai Emery's side could still play in the Champions League, with the Italian yet to make his mark in the competition. That's why – despite Caprile's quality and leadership, it makes more sense to make a move elsewhere before making the final leap to a Champions League club.
