The timing of the release was immediately criticized given Sane's active involvement in the ongoing storyline with Asuka and IYO Sky. According to Fightful Select, there was considerable shock within the company over this decision, with his departure before any meaningful outcome to the feud caused massive disappointment within WWE. The program was moving towards a resolution that would never happen again, at least not with Sen involved.
The fan reaction was equally swift. Sane was in her second WWE run, after returning to the company in 2023.
