Victor Nilsson Lindelof was a surprise signing for Aston Villa last summer, arriving on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United.
He has been at Old Trafford since 2017, but has struggled during his eight years there, with injuries limiting his impact under different managers.
However, Aston Villa planned to take him for free, as they wanted to strengthen Unai Emery's options in a difficult summer transfer window.
The move proved smart as he became a utility player under the Spanish boss, finishing the campaign with 28 appearances and 1784 minutes in all competitions. 10 of them came in their successful Europa League campaign, where he also played as a midfielder.
No Allsvenskan move
His current deal expires next summer, but at the moment he is not interested in any talks about his future.
Asked about still playing for Aston Villa, he said: "Yeah, that's the aim right now."
"My body feels good, so I feel good. I've played with constant pain before, so being pain-free gives an extra boost."
After this he put off the idea of going to Allsvenskan in Sweden. Many Swedish players make such a move at the end of their careers, but the Aston Villa defender is not keen.
Asked about the idea, he said, "I don't think so."
"I don't see myself coming home and playing in Allsvenskan. I've never played there, so it would be fun, but if I know myself right, I don't think it's possible."
