Jeremy Souchon doesn’t ‘see eye to eye’ with Spurs’ Mitch Johnson

Former San Antonio Spurs power forward Jeremy Sochan has yet to make his debut for the New York Knicks. However, he has a lot to say about his former home, recently revealing that he would not have seen eye to eye with Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson over some issues.

The 22-year-old revealed that he wanted a bigger role in the team, something that might be due to the Spurs' deep roster.

"There's no real opportunity in my opinion. It is what it is. It's a deep team. Maybe I didn't get one-on-one with the coach. I'm just fortunate to have somewhere to grow," he said, per James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.

While his desire for more minutes was acknowledged even by Johnson himself, this move appears to be the best solution for all parties involved.

"We were all well aware of his desire to be in the rotation and given more opportunities, especially recently. We wanted to do the right thing for him and make sure he has that opportunity before the year is out," Johnson said, per Yahoo Sports.

The Spurs' rotation tightened amid roster changes and internal development priorities, causing Sochan's minutes to drop to just 12.8 per game during the 2025–26 campaign. His exit also depletes San Antonio's 2022 first-round class, as none of the three selections from that draft remain with the franchise (Blake Wesley and Malachi Branham).

While Sochan averaged only 4.1 points and 2.6 assists during the 12.8 minutes per game he spent on the court, his defensive versatility and effort were never questioned. Sochan was simply on a team that needed more from him in terms of floor spacing and offensive ability, and last season he didn't get the minutes he needed to prove his worth alongside Victor Wembanyama.

He, the 22-year-old, will be hoping to change the Knicks for the better.
