It's no secret that LeBron James is chasing another ring before riding off into the sunset. While the Los Angeles Lakers are having a tough campaign, they are still in the fight, and it is never wise to bet against a team featuring James and Luka Doncic.
James has willingly taken a back seat to Doncic to allow the talented guard to become the focal point of the Lakers. The 41-year-old James, who has lost his quickness, explosiveness and athleticism over the years, is smartly readjusting his game to remain effective.
On "The Bill Simmons Podcast", NBA analyst Max Kellerman revealed that James' agent Rich Paul envisions the future Hall of Famer playing a more specific role for the Purple and Gold.
Kellerman, who co-hosts a podcast with Paul, said, "Rich likes the idea of playing as LeBron's roller. Becoming Karl Malone. I like that idea too. A smarter Karl Malone. He's the same size. 6-foot-8, 260 (pounds), and he can shoot from outside."
However, Simmons was skeptical of the idea.
"I think it's very hard. I know you've talked to Rich about this, and all three of us have talked about it. Taking somebody who was the best of all time at their job and telling them, 'Now you are this,'" Simmons replied.
Malone had to stay in Los Angeles for a season in 2003 as he tried to win a championship. But even joining the powerhouse unit of Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and Gary Payton wasn't enough to earn him a ring. He retired at the end of the season.
Malone, who was 40 at the time, averaged 13.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 42 games with the Lakers.
James distanced himself from Paul after he talked about the Austin Reeves trade, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he does it again.
