Some big events happened in the 2026 edition of Elimination Chamber. Rhea Ripley surprised some people at WrestleMania 42 by having a huge matchup with WWE Women's Champion Jade Cargill. And Randy Orton has a shot at the WWE Undisputed belt next month.
However, one of the other notable moments was the reveal of what was in the mystery box. As reports surrounding the event suggest, it was AEW alumnus Danhausen. But the comedy-based wrestler received a warm welcome from WWE fans in Chicago last week.
Even now, despite an entertaining debut on WWE Raw this week, there are still some fans unhappy with his inclusion. Especially after former NJPW main event David Finlay signed with AEW because they received a better offer in free agency. Well, it looks like a top star was a big force behind the signing.
CM Punk behind WWE signing Danhausen?
According to the Wrestling Observer, current World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk is pushing WWE decision makers to sign Danhausen.
The pair became friendly when the two shared a locker room in AEW and appeared in some funny videos at conventions during that time. The friendship continued after Punk left AEW in 2023, and they even made some video content together last year despite contracts with rival companies.
Only time will tell if the signing works out for WWE or not. So far, reports say the company is already happy with how well Danhausen's merchandise has performed since its mixed debut. Still, it shows what kind of influence the Heavyweight Champion has in the promotion.
