Victor Wembanyama's emotions continued after the game after the San Antonio Spurs came back from 25 points to defeat the Los Angeles Clippers.
Noting that generational talent often cites the importance of progress, ClutchPoints asked Wembey how such a big win fits into the bigger picture of what Spurs have achieved and continue to work on.
"For me, it's very meaningful, that win. It's definitely not a game that I would have seen us winning two years ago. It's actually a game that two years ago I would have seen us losing by 30 or 40."
Wembanyama's first winning season is taking the NBA by storm. After going 22-60 in his rookie year, the Spurs have gone from an elite team with the first overall pick to championship contenders in just two seasons. After a reported 116-112 win against the Clippers, the Spurs are in second place in the Western Conference at 46-17. While there are still 19 games left, they have already won 12 more than last year.
"It's like, even when the opponent is bad or the opponent is figuring out our game plan, these guys still find a way to have fun. You know what I mean?" Wembley continued his response at ClutchPoints. “It's not just about having fun, but also doing the little things that are difficult and that make it so we have a lot of fun on the court.”
San Antonio has already had a lot of fun during the season, defeating the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder four times. The Spurs have now beaten every team in the Western Conference at least once, courtesy of the rally vs. the Clippers.
"It's a lot of progress on the court. When you see it, you know it," Wembanyama told ClutchPoints.
"For me, it's very meaningful. It's definitely not a game that I would have seen us winning two years ago. This is actually a game that two years ago I would have seen us losing by 30 or 40..."⬇️

Victor Wembanyama details incredible Spurs win against Clippers
Twice separate times in the final 13 seconds of the win against Los Angeles, San Antonio missed the back end of a free throw, yet recovered an offensive rebound. Wemby gave his thoughts on watching that kind of fight as his teammates were putting the finishing touches to an improbable victory.
"The fact that we were down 25 and nobody quit and I had limited minutes. I know our starters had limited minutes and everybody who stepped on the court helped in some way."
The Spurs' leading scorer played just 22 minutes against Kawhi Leonard and company. He had 39 in a hard-fought win against the Detroit Pistons the night before.
"It means a lot to me because, literally, that fourth quarter was all I had," Vembanyama admitted. “All the effort, it feels like everyone's full effort, all the energy went into those last minutes.”
With a successful Rodeo road trip off the back of San Antonio, wins against Detroit and LA began a six-game homestand filled with playoff contenders.
Wembley revealed, "The best thing I've noticed is that no one gives up on anything or anyone. Everyone's got everyone's back and that's why I have blind faith in these guys. I mean, I love them so much. It's such a joy to play with them, share the court and see them every day."
The Spurs face the Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets and Charlotte Hornets before going back on the road to face the same Clippers team they just defeated.
