While many around the NBA have praised Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo for his historic 83-point game on Tuesday night, some prominent figures in the game weren't fans of how he moved into the No. 2 spot for most points scored in a single NBA game.
Kobe Bryant had the best performance of his life two decades ago by scoring 81 in a game against the Toronto Raptors, after which most basketball fans and experts assumed that this number would never be surpassed. Well, this week, Adebayo shook the NBA world when he somehow scored 83 points in a win over the Washington Wizards.
His performance now trails only Wilt Chamberlain for most points scored in a game, becoming a national story within a matter of hours. Hardcore and casual fans are amazed by what Adebayo did on Tuesday. However, there are many in and around the game who are dismissive of the Heat star's historic night. One of them is ESPN NBA insider Tim McMahon.
Tim McMahon mocks the Heat and 'Lizards' in comments about Bam Adebayo's 83-point game
In a wild boast about Adebayo's 83-point night, McMahon called the game a "hilarious exhibition of terrible basketball" and jokingly dubbed the Washington Wizards the Washington Generals. The Generals are that infamous team that has been losing to the Globetrotters every night for decades.
While he understands that the three-time All-Star is the face of the Heat and they wanted him to chase history, he just hated how they were helping him. McMahon said, "You're up by 20 and intentionally getting fouled to extend the game by a few minutes? He's scoring a three despite being triple-teamed. It was horrible, disgusting, disgusting basketball, to be honest."
Additionally, McMahon took aim at the organization's honesty in working so hard to help Adebayo surpass Bryant on the all-time single-game scoring list.
McMahon said, "I never want to hear about Summer's culture, the commercialism and that nonsense ever again, because that was the most blatant stat chasing I've ever seen." "This is the worst stat chasing since Ricky Davis tried to get a rebound at the wrong basket to get a triple-double... It was embarrassing for the 'Lizards,' cringeworthy for the Heat, but hey, you got your 83."
Bam Adebayo made 36 free throws on 43 attempts. In comparison, Bryant was 18 of 20 from the foul line and hit eight more shots from the field.
