He joined the Saints from 1.FC Nürnberg last summer in a €12m deal and has been a mainstay of the team since. He has particularly impressed as Southampton have flourished under Tonda Eckert.
The recent defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final was another demonstration of his talent and it appears clubs are noticing.
BILD report that it is 'quite possible' that the midfielder will play in Germany again next season. He is 'particularly sought after' by VfB Stuttgart.
But the problem for them is his €25m asking price. This is a figure that the German side can only afford if VfB sells a midfielder first. The newspaper does not speculate who he might be.

The obvious candidate would be Angelo Stiller. He is a rising star in Germany and has fans, Like Manchester United. He is also rated at €45m, which should provide Xander with funds to pursue further advances.
The Southampton star is currently valued at €12m. But BILD believes they would want at least double that to approve the sale.
However any consideration will of course depend on what division they are playing in. With promotion to the Premier League looming, it is highly unlikely that Southampton are considering selling Zander at this time.
Still, it seems they want a hefty fee to do so. A fee that Stuttgart, at the moment, cannot afford unless they first secure a major sale of their own.
