Alessandro Cercati impressed for Australia against Türkiye and is now attracting interest Newcastle United.
The Parma centre-back has now played 14 times for the national team. He had the option to play for the Italian national team, as he regularly played for their youth teams. His decision to play for Australia is now bearing fruit.
For Parma, Circati played 31 times in the 2025/26 campaign. That became the key to his survival and it came at a turning point in his career. In the 2024/25 season, the 22-year-old suffered a serious knee injury which derailed his progress.
Now, things are well and truly back on track for the defender, who is a target for Newcastle United.
Agent relationships can help with deals

This has led to the centre-back attracting interest from several clubs. Newcastle United are one of them and they have been 'closely monitoring' his progress for some time.
Magpies are also thought to have an interest in 'finding fertile ground'. This is because Circati's agent Luca Baccherini (who works with super agent Federico Pastorello) has great connections with Premier League clubs.
While Serie A clubs are also keeping an eye on Scerati, Newcastle United's interest is seen as a worthy reward for his performances.
There is no mention of Parma's stance on its future. Interestingly, this comes at a time when Zion Suzuki, Matteo Pellegrino and Mariano Troilo have also been linked with English clubs.
Parma can execute the sale
The sale of Giovanni Leoni by the Italian club says a lot about how they want to operate in the market. They buy cheap and sell big and that's what they want to do in the case of Serkati.
However, a sale to Newcastle United may be contingent on other Parma players. If they lose Troilo, they won't want to part with another centre-back. Losing Suzuki would mean they lose two key members of a very reliable backline.
But if Cercati continues his performances at the World Cup, he could be their most valuable asset to the team. This may give English clubs a bigger opportunity to sign him.
