Abdukodir Khusanov's agent has revealed newcastle united made a serious effort to sign Manchester City guard.
The Uzbekistan international spent his youth career with FC Bunyodkor before leaving for Belarusian side Energetic-BGU in 2022. A year later, he left them for RC Lens.
His excellent performances for the League 1 side attracted the attention of Newcastle United, Manchester City and other clubs.
Solid interest from Newcastle United
sport-express have published a detailed interview with the centre-back's agent Garat Khasbiullin to discuss his career. This also includes the 22-year-old's transfer to Manchester City in January 2025.
The outlet told the agent that before his move to Manchester City, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain were reportedly interested. He asked which of these links was true.
When responding to this, Khasbiulin revealed the Magpies' reaction to Abdukodir Khusanov not joining the Etihad club.
"Newcastle. Other teams may have expressed interest, as did other teams. It just never got to the point of concrete negotiations." He said.
"But we established a good relationship with the Magpies. I have huge respect for their management, and they were the first people to congratulate us when Khusanov moved to City."
Close relationship with Newcastle United
Abdukodir Khusanov's agent Garat Khasbiulin spoke further about his relationship with Newcastle United.
He is in regular contact with Eddie Howe's side, who were disappointed at not getting their client. The representative hopes to take an Uzbek player to St James' Park.
"We maintain a good relationship with them. I think some day an Uzbekistani player will arrive at Newcastle." Khasbiulin explained.
“In general, I try to be nice to everyone I interact with, sending holiday greetings and congratulating on important wins. When I travel to England, we have dinner together.
“Yeah, that deal didn't happen, but they really wanted him [Khusanov]And no one lodged any complaint. They say: Whenever you're planning to visit us, just call us in advance, and a box in St James's Park will be available for you. “I have a similar relationship with Lens and PSG.”
The defender has been a regular player for Manchester City and won the EFL Cup and FA Cup last season. Despite this, Newcastle United fans could be forgiven for thinking that Khusanov and the Magpies may still have a future given those wonderful relationships.
