Smith prepared his argument by first saying that he believes Michael Jordan is the GOAT. The commentator then made his case that James is at least worthy of consideration for GOAT status.

Smith said, “He gets to the basket. He leads the NBA in fast break points. … He’s doing whatever he can to win basketball games for the Lakers.”

“I didn’t know what it was going to be like,” Tatum said Sunday night after his recent return to the game. “You just want to be Jason Tatum and feel like yourself again. I’m not Superman, so obviously it’s going to take some time.”

Since walking out of the tunnel at TD Garden on March 6 to confirm his return from injury, Tatum has played brilliantly. He has scored in double figures in all eight of his contests this season and the Celtics have gone 6-2 when he has been in the starting lineup.

But, despite his gifts, Tatum has still experienced some parts where he looks a lot like Clark Kent, Superman’s human alter ego who can’t fly in the public eye. He missed 12 of his 15 shots in a tough win over the Memphis Grizzlies and, most recently, failed to find the bottom of the net in the first two quarters against the T-Wolves.

“It’s only my eighth game, so still trying to get a feel for it,” Tatum said.

While Tatum’s occasional struggles may be frustrating for Celtics fans, one detail of Superman lore is worth remembering: Clark Kent is still Superman. Tatum could soon don his cape when the Celtics host the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, who have won 12 consecutive games, on Wednesday night. But even if the 28-year-old has trouble against the league’s best team, it’s worth noting that progress in the NBA is rarely linear. Kevin McGonigle is headed to the big leagues. The Detroit Tigers announced that McGonigal made the Opening Day roster for the 2026 MLB season. The 21-year-old shortstop is the Tigers’ top prospect and one of the favorites to win the AL Rookie of the Year award this season.

McGonigal has quickly risen through the ranks after being selected by the Tigers with the 37th pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. McGongile is the consensus No. 2 prospect in baseball and is highly touted in Detroit. It may take time for McGonigal to fully integrate into MLB, but that shouldn’t scare anyone into his long-term potential in the big leagues.

It’s certainly understandable that the Nuggets would want to be cautious in getting Watson back into the lineup amid an injury that kept him out of the lineup for nearly a month. For a time, both Watson and fellow Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon were sidelined with hamstring injuries, Gordon’s second such ailment of the season, and third in the past year, tied to the 2025 playoffs against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

When healthy this season, Watson has established himself as a key part of the Nuggets rotation, showing an improved offensive game and helping Denver hold down the fort in the absence of Nikola Jokic due to a knee injury.

He has the potential to significantly increase his value in the restricted free agent market this upcoming offseason, with some fans expecting him to take over Cameron Johnson’s starting job amid his struggles.

Bill Self is the greatest coach in the history of the Kansas basketball program. That’s saying something for a team that had coaching icons like Roy Williams and Fogg Allen during their peak periods. However, when you have the most wins in school history and a pair of national championships to your credit, it’s hard to deny his status as the most important sports figure the university has ever produced.

However, all good things come to an end, and the Self era may soon be coming to an end. After a heartbreaking last-second loss to St. John’s in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the coach seemed unsure whether he would return this fall.

“I haven’t really been able to do much on the court,” Self said after the game. [h/t The Athletic]. “I’ve seen some things off the court. So I’ll come back and visit with the family and see what’s going on. I love what I do. I need to be able to do it where I’m feeling good and healthy enough to do it well enough.”

Brad Underwood, Illinois

TJ Otzelbarger, Iowa State

Since arriving at Iowa State five years ago, TJ Otzelbarger has done nothing but win and lead the Cyclones to the NCAA Tournament every year, including this week’s trip to the Sweet 16. Similar to Brad Underwood at Illinois, if given the resources Kansas has, Otzelburger could get the program back to the Final Four in a year or two.

Danny Manning, Louisville (assistant)

If basketball icon Wilt Chamberlain weren’t a Jayhawk, Danny Manning would be the greatest player in team history. Bringing back the legend and former Kansas assistant to replace Bill Self would be a huge story.

Yet his notoriety within the program is not the only reason he would be a candidate to become their next head coach. He has a wealth of experience as an assistant and currently serves as Pat Kelsey’s top assistant at Louisville. A team that has made consecutive trips to the tournament over the last two years.

Nate Oates, Alabama

Another interesting option that could be on Kansas’ radar is Alabama head coach Nate Oats. ‘Bama has been a football-first school for generations. Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg was the closest player to Golden State Warriors guard Moses Moody when he suffered a horrific injury Monday at American Airlines Center.

In overtime, Moody was going up for a dunk alone when his knee twisted. The bullet missed him and he fell on the floor. Flagg was running closest to him when this horrific incident happened.

The fans applauded warmly as Moody was pulled from the floor. It was his first game back after missing 10 games with a wrist injury.

The Mavericks lost to the Warriors 137–131.

In the post-game conference, Flagg shared his initial perspective on Moody’s knee injury, while also expressing his support.

“I can’t really tell. His leg has kind of given out. But it’s hard, and I’m praying for him and everything he’s going through. It’s horrible. But yeah, just praying for him,” Flagg said in a video posted by AB Jones of DLLS Sports.

The 19-year-old Flagg finished with 32 points, four rebounds, nine assists and two steals. Meanwhile, Moody, 23, had 23 points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.

The Mavericks also lost a key player after Daniel Gafford left with a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter. He could be considered questionable for their game against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.
