The Pistons played their first matchup without Cunningham in another road matchup in Washington. They played with inspired energy from start to finish, leading them to another double-digit victory over the Wizards. Head coach JB Bickerstaff noted before the competition how difficult it would be to fill Cunningham’s absence.

Bickerstaff said, “Obviously, it’s tough. It’s tough with what Cade is going through. He’s a big part of what we do from a leadership standpoint. Obviously, the talent is there, but being around him every day makes guys’ days better.” “It’s our responsibility to keep moving forward. We know when he’s around he’ll support us. He’ll cheer us on, help us, coach us and lead us.”

The team came out with a spark that carried them to a 35-14 lead in the first quarter. Washington offered some pushback in the second quarter, but Detroit came back after halftime to impose its will. The Pistons outscored the Wizards 57–43 in the second half and put the game out of reach.

Duren finished the night with 24 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Six of those rebounds were pulled down on the offensive end, creating second chances for Detroit.

Backup center Paul Reed had an impressive performance, scoring 17 points in 20 minutes off the bench. Guards Duncan Robinson, Kevin Huerter and Caris LeVert scored 14 points each for the Pistons. Thompson contributed ten points and nine rebounds in his restricted minutes.

James was selected for his 22nd consecutive All-Star appearance, however, his streak of 21 consecutive All-NBA team finishes ended as he did not reach the league’s 65-game mandate to be eligible for postseason honors.

After the win against the Heat, the Lakers improved to 45–25, two full games ahead of the No. 4 Minnesota Timberwolves. The team will visit the Orlando Magic on Saturday before concluding their road trip with games against the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers.

The Bucks got off to a sluggish start, with the Jazz outscoring them 30–19 in the first quarter. It was all downhill from there, as they fell to 28–41 in a deer in headlights season.

As Eric Nehm of The Athletic reported, Rivers was brutally honest about his performance after the game.

“We played very badly. Didn’t play with any competitive spirit tonight.”

The Bucks shot only 41% from the floor and were outrebounded 47-35. They reduced their turnovers by 28 points.

When you can’t beat a team that’s already staring at defeat, something is very wrong.

“I thought the first group set the tone. I thought the first group arrived, and everybody in that group was trying to score. It’s so fun, we had a great shootaround today where the ball was moving around. Everything was second act,” Rivers said.

“The first six times, the guy who was supposed to go (in the second act) kept it intact. But at the end of the day, the onus is on me to play them the right way.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo missed the game due to injury management. It was recently reported that the Bucks wanted to lock up Antetokounmpo for the remainder of the season, but the two-time MVP refused.

Ryan Rollins led Milwaukee with 15 points, three rebounds and five assists, while Cam Thomas had 14 points, two rebounds and four assists off the bench.

With the Heat facing tough opponents in the home stretch of the season, the team is still trying to find a key area with 12 games left, as it features the duo of Norman Powell and Tyler Herro.

The explosive guard duo has been in just 14 games together this season, with each missing significant time due to injuries, especially Herro, who has missed a total of 47 contests with a myriad of issues. Powell has filled the void as the leading scoring guard in Herro’s absence, making the veteran a first-time All-Star and leading Miami with 22.4 points per game.

Head coach Erik Spoelstra brought Powell off the bench on Thursday night, which could be an untenable situation as the team figures out how to utilize both Powell and Herro. As for Spoelstra, he believes it will “work itself out”, admitting that it is “hard to assess”, and even going so far as to say that it is “at the back” on his list of priorities.

“The skill level of both of them will lend itself to them on the court,” Spoelstra said. “You know we need it. We need all the offensive firepower we have right now. It’s hard to assess, and I understand it because it’s a story, because they don’t have a full body of games and a season, it’s way behind the order of my priorities. Because if we’re defending the way we’ve been, and getting things done in the open court, and we’re getting in transition, in my view, it just works itself out.”

Heat’s Norman Powell gives honest opinion on coming off the bench

Although the Heat’s lineup may change due to injuries to Andrew Wiggins and Jaime Jacquez Jr., Powell’s role on the team will remain until the end of the regular season. Still, it’s not like Spoelstra is keeping Powell and Herro away from each other, either, with them playing significant minutes together in the loss to the Lakers, even if Herro came off the bench.

Herro recorded 21 points on eight of 19 shooting from the field, four of 10 from deep, along with eight rebounds and five assists. Powell worked well with the second unit, and even played extended games with the starters near the end, recording 32 minutes and scoring 20 points on seven of 13 shooting from the field.

Still, the two of them on the floor together are a work in progress, and it’s noticeable when looking at the two guards’ spacing and defense. Powell will talk about coming off the bench and how much of an adjustment it is, something he underestimated because he’s had so many roles during his decade-plus long career.

“I’m just playing my game, those decisions and things are up to me,” Powell said. “I can’t control it. I focus on what I can control: being a good teammate, being professional, having confidence in myself, going out there and playing the way I want to play, and whatever minutes I get, figuring out how we can make it work.”

Heat’s Norman Powell sees himself as a starter

As the Heat were unable to stop Lakers star Luka Doncic, who contributed a massive 60 points, it started in the second half, where the star lit it up with 19 points in the third quarter, as he had 21 points at halftime. It was another disappointing loss for Miami, as they led by as many as 15 points in the first half, even scoring 42 points in the opening frame.

The three-game slump is a blow to the Heat, especially with a seven-game winning streak already underway, as the team still needs to figure out a significant role for Powell. Whether this is a permanent move or it will be on a game-by-game basis, Powell thinks it’s the latter.

Powell will be honest in saying he believes he is a starter, but he is accepting his role if Miami feels that is what it takes to win games.

“We talked, I don’t know, game by game. I don’t know, it’s a question [Spoelstra]But we talked about how it’s going to move forward, with everybody, you know, treating every game as a playoff game, because it’s so important,” Powell said. “And whatever role you’re given, the focus has to be on going out there and winning games, no matter what, and that’s my focus. I feel like I’m a starter; I’ve worked to be in that role. But if the team feels like me coming off the bench for a few games, or whatever depending on the matchup, will put us in a position to win games, then I’ll accept the role and go out there and play basketball.

At the end of the day, it remains to be seen how Powell’s role changes with the Heat, but if one thing is for sure, the minutes he is playing are integral. Miami captain Bam Adebayo echoed the same sentiment with ClutchPoints, saying how he’s still playing minutes, comparing it to the way former star Lou Williams was brought off the bench.

After starting in the Lakers’ game against the Miami Heat, LeBron has played a total of 1,611 games, tying Parish’s record. James will certainly break some records this season and beyond, provided he plays the rest of the year.

Drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, James has played 23 seasons in his NBA career. Although the Lakers star missed a few games here and there, the sheer amount of years he played meant that sooner or later he was bound to break this record. Games played by James spanned Cleveland, Miami and Los Angeles.

His longevity is the biggest reason why many fans consider him the greatest player in NBA history. Even at the age of 41, the Lakers star is still averaging 21.4 points per game on efficient shooting (shooting 51.4% from the field). He’s also adding 6.8 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game. Although he is not the focal point of the Lakers’ offense as before, he has still been an integral part for them this season.

Due to his age, there is talk in the league about James’ possible retirement after this season. Although the Lakers star has not clearly stated that he will retire after the 2025-26 season, this decision is still lingering in every fan’s mind as the season progresses. However, for now he and the Lakers are focused on winning another championship. Los Angeles enters its game against Miami as the third seed in the highly competitive Western Conference, and is on track to make the postseason.

The Montreal Canadiens were in Detroit on Thursday night, facing the Red Wings in a game steeped in playoff fallout.

The Canadiens don’t exactly follow this adage, as they take fewer shots with the man-advantage than most NHL teams, despite having a top-10 power play.

On Thursday night, we got a prime example of the principle at work, when a low-quality shot from Cole Caufield bounced off John Gibson and went straight onto the blade of Slafkowski. The 21-year-old Slovak player made no mistake and scored his 25th goal of the year.

If we wanted to be pedantic, we could describe it as a quick pass by Caufield rather than a shot, but the point stands.

If you want to take a boat ride in the river, you have to go down the river.

This is an important lesson that Canadians should keep in mind moving forward.

The Detroit Pistons have been one of the top teams in the league this season, but the next few weeks could be tough for them playing without their star player. ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Cade Cunningham will be out for an extended period of time with a lung injury. He left their game against the Washington Wizards after playing only five minutes.

The Pistons released a statement regarding Cunningham’s injury.

It is uncertain how long Cunningham will be out, but there is a good chance he will miss the remainder of the regular season. There is some optimism that he will return for the start of the postseason, but it is still too early to tell.

Cunningham has been the engine for the Pistons this season, and without him, they will have to carry a lot of the load. He had an All-NBA season, and at this point, he may not be able to qualify for season awards given the amount of games he could potentially miss.

The Pistons are also in danger of losing the No. 1 seed, as the Boston Celtics are just 3.5 games behind them. Luckily, the Pistons have a tiebreaker between them, which could go a long way if they have the same record as them at the end of the season.

The Pistons have a fairly easy schedule, so they should be able to stick around if Cunningham is sidelined, but they’ll need him when the playoffs start. If they can bring him back before that then it would be a big thing for them.

With the 2025-26 season almost over, the Dallas Mavericks look forward to the 2026 NBA Draft. With the organization hoping to acquire young talent for the roster in the offseason, CEO Rick Welts explains why the upcoming draft is so important for the franchise.

Welts said the Mavericks are aiming to add more than one prospect in the draft who they plan on playing for the team for a long time. Dallas is projected to be a top 10 pick and could potentially add more draft capital before the draft begins.

“This is going to be a really important draft for us because we’ll be picking up at least a few players that will probably be a part of our roster for a long time,” Welts said.

Dallas is gearing up for a busy offseason. Ideally before the 2026 NBA Draft, the Mavericks need to find a new general manager to replace Nico Harrison. Depending on how the draft goes, it could determine other moves the club makes in free agency or trades.

With a 23-47 record and 12 games remaining on the schedule, the Mavericks are well back in the play-in tournament mix. They’re technically not out yet, but the trajectory for the team is to miss the playoffs altogether. If so, it would be the second consecutive campaign where Dallas fails to reach the postseason.

We’ll see how the postseason plays out for the Mavericks. Depending on the steps taken by the club, they could change things. Especially considering that Cooper Flagg will be going into his second year, and Kyrie Irving is expected to return from injury. Add in an exciting prospect, and you have an attractive roster for next season.

The Detroit Pistons suffered a major blow when Cade Cunningham suffered a lung injury and will be out indefinitely. Jalen Duren will have to take over with Cunningham out. He is currently the favorite on DraftKings for the Most Improved Player award. There is no timetable for Cunningham, and that means Duren will take on more responsibilities.

Duren has a chance to show what he can do with Cunningham out of the lineup. The Pistons have played seven games without Cunningham this season, and have had mostly positive results, going 5–2 in the seven games. Currently, they are 49–19, which is the best record in the Eastern Conference. But they are only 3.5 games ahead of the Boston Celtics, and will have to hold on to maintain the top spot in the East.

Duren is averaging 19 points and 10.6 rebounds per game while shooting 64.2%. This is a huge jump from the 2024-25 season, when he averaged 11.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Duren does not mind putting pressure on the team. Most recently, he scored 36 points while shooting 13 of 17 from the field in a 130–117 win over the Washington Wizards. He also had 30 points while shooting 12 of 15 against the Memphis Grizzlies.

With no Cunningham in the lineup, Duren will likely be the first option for the Pistons as they attempt to finish with home-court advantage during the Eastern Conference playoffs. There are 14 games left on the schedule and Duran has ample opportunity to claim his prize and cement his legacy. A bigger stretch would give them home-court advantage and potentially make them stronger as a unit. This will prepare them for when Cunningham is ready to return.

There are still a few weeks left in the NBA regular season. But it’s safe to assume that the Chicago Bulls are still rebuilding. A series of trades that shook up the franchise during the trade deadline speaks to this.

As a result, the Bulls are stuck with a young roster and uncertainty about who will stay or go. This especially applies to Collin Sexton, Nick Richards, Anfernee Simmons, Jaden Ivey, Leonard Miller and Rob Dillingham.
