After a 2024-25 season in which the Cleveland Cavaliers finished atop the Western Conference and still ended the season with a disappointment, the Cavs are looking to rebuild once again. The arrival of James Harden and an influx of stars headlined by Donovan Mitchell means the Cavs are once again seen as genuine title contenders.
And while Mitchell notched his 100th 30-point game for the Cavs against the Charlotte Hornets, his postgame comments will put an even bigger smile on fans’ faces.
Donovan on his 100th, 30-point game as a Cavalier:
“Hopefully I get 100, 200 more, that’s the goal. … I love being here, I love being a part of this group, I love being a part of this organization and this city. There’s a lot of Cavs fans out there coming to see the crowds we have on the road. Before I… pic.twitter.com/9e4tXeWx81

“Hopefully I get 100, 200 more, that’s the goal. … I love being here, I love being a part of this group, I love being a part of this organization and this city. To see the crowd we have on the road, there are so many Cavs fans. Before I got here, I didn’t know how many people were actually from Ohio. To hear that wherever I go is special,” Mitchell told RealCavsFans.com As explained in a post on
The 29-year-old has established himself as one of the best scorers in the NBA, averaging 28.8 points per game (career-high), 5.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals. The win is Cleveland’s seventh consecutive win and 12th in the last 13 games.
The defining story was Mitchell’s acquisition in the fourth quarter. The All-Star guard finished with 32 points, including 13 in the final period.
And while Mitchell sealed the game, Jarrett Allen’s interior dominance was equally important. Allen contributed 25 points and 14 rebounds while Harden chipped in with 18 points and eight assists.
For the Hornets, Kon Knueppel had a 33-point performance with seven three-pointers, bringing his total three-pointers for the season to 193, the second-most by a rookie in the NBA. Despite trailing by 14 points after the first half, Knueppel’s effective shooting allowed the Hornets to get back into the game.
Nevertheless, the Hornets lost due to lack of support, with their second highest scorer Brandon Miller finishing with 18 points. The Cavs’ offensive talent proved too much in the end, helping them earn their seventh consecutive win.
