OKLAHOMA CITY – Snapping a 63-year-old streak with his 127 consecutive 20+ point performances in a 104-102 win against the Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander almost saw his streak end there. Midway through the fourth quarter, despite maintaining a 12-point lead, it was still behind by 10 points. Then, Gilgeous-Alexander went into closeout mode, helping them save their streak and lead a 116–103 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

After scoring five points on back-to-back possessions, including a contested 3-pointer from Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards, Gilgeous-Alexander drew a shooting foul on Edwards to complete a 3-point game to reach 20 points. Gilgeous-Alexander’s 20 points made him one of three Thunder players to finish with 20+ points in Sunday’s win, joining All-Star Chet Holmgren (21 points) and Isaiah Joe (20 points), who shot 8 of 14 from the floor, including four threes. Jared McCain added 15 points on 5 of 9 3-point attempts.

Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander extended his streak of consecutive 20+ point games to the most in NBA history by scoring 10 points in the final six minutes of Sunday’s 13-point win (116-103) against the Timberwolves. Gilgeous-Alexander extended his 20+ point streak from the free-throw line on a 3-point play, drawing a shooting foul on Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards.

After the win, Gilgeous-Alexander reflected on the final frame, reminding reporters that the Thunder would go beyond doing everything in their power to ensure a win to continue their historic 20+ point game streak.

“I didn’t care about anything other than winning the game, like always,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “Tonight’s game was very sloppy, low-scoring, they’re obviously a good defense, we’re a good defense; so, it’s no surprise. To me, these types of things never matter. It’s always about getting out of here with a W.

“If I have a night like tonight, and we win for the rest of the season like we won tonight, I’ll be the happiest person on Earth. So, all that matters is winning.”

The Thunder will look to extend their winning streak when they begin their five-game road trip with Tuesday’s matchup against the Magic.

Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander recently made history by breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s streak of scoring at least 20 points in consecutive games. In the next game after breaking the record, the incredible streak found itself in serious danger.

The reigning NBA MVP was well below the 20-point mark in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s contest with the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, as they have done repeatedly during the streak, they turned it on in the final 12 minutes. Gilgeous-Alexander eventually drained a jumper after a foul on Anthony Edwards late in the fourth before sinking a free throw and scoring 20 points for his 128th consecutive game.

The Thunder already had the game in hand, and SGA gave a hearty applause after seeing their squad close in on a 116–103 victory over their Western Conference rivals.

Gilgeous-Alexander only had 10 points in the fourth quarter, so he really had to step things up to keep the historic streak going.

Although he still got 20 points, it was far from Gilgeous-Alexander’s best performance in Sunday’s win over Minnesota. The MVP favorite shot just 7 of 22 from the field to score his 20 points, but he added 10 assists in the process.

This is a big win in the standings for the Thunder, who are still trying to avoid the Spurs for the top seed in the Western Conference playoff picture. With the Pistons struggling a bit at the top of the Eastern Conference, the top seed in the West will likely mean home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

Gilgeous-Alexander has been one of the most consistent forces in basketball throughout the season and over the past few years, and this streak is a perfect example of that. Even on his worst days, he can keep it going and that’s what he showed on Sunday.

Whenever a player is being mentioned in the same sentence as Wilt Chamberlain, he has done something extremely rare and historic. That’s what Shai Gilgeous-Alexander accomplished, as the reigning MVP of the Oklahoma City Thunder broke a record that no one has come close to since 1963.

With another 20-plus-point scoring night, this time against the Boston Celtics on Thursday, Gilgeous-Alexander recorded his 127th consecutive game with 20-plus points, surpassing Chamberlain’s record of 126 straight games between 1961 and 1963.

This unfathomable record now belongs to the Thunder superstar, and SGA can extend his streak even further to keep it within striking distance, as Wilt did before.

Oddly enough, Chamberlain holds the record for most consecutive 20-point games (126), and also had the second-longest streak, ahead of Gilgeous-Alexander, at 92 games between 1963 and 1964. The only reason Wilt’s streak ended in 1963 and he had to restart was due to him being ejected just four minutes into the game for “abusive language” towards the officials.

It’s why Chamberlain’s streak of scoring at least 20 points in 126 consecutive games ended, and it’s why Gilgeous-Alexander’s name now tops the list in NBA lore.

This is a remarkable feat for Gilgeous-Alexander, and it puts him in the same great position as Chamberlain, who has all of his nearly-untouchable records, as well as LeBron James and his streak of 1,297 straight games scoring more than 10 points. Perhaps this is the next record on Gilgeous-Alexander’s to-do list, but he still has a long way to go to catch LeBron, as anyone would.

Passing Chamberlain is the latest major accomplishment for Gilgeous-Alexander, just eight years into his career.

The 27-year-old superstar won his first championship with the Thunder last season and was crowned the 2025 NBA Finals MVP. He also led the league in scoring until being named the 2024–25 NBA MVP. With approximately four weeks remaining in the 2025–26 season, Gilgeous-Alexander is considered the favorite to once again win the MVP award.

After tying Wilt’s record with a 35-point performance on Sunday, which included a game-winning 3-pointer against the Denver Nuggets, Gilgeous-Alexander took a moment to reflect on the history he made, and gave a humble response to what the accomplishment means to him.

“It’s still a lot to wrap my head around,” SGA said. “To be honest, I don’t even try to think about it, especially during the season. There’s a lot going on. A lot of things have to go right to get what you ultimately want. I’m 100 percent focused on that.

“Obviously, it’s special to interact with a guy like that.”

Not many players ever come close to recording similar numbers or breaking the record held by Wilt Chamberlain. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has done so in his eighth season, as he is the new record holder for most consecutive games with over 20 points with 127 games and counting.

Kawhi Leonard accomplished an impressive feat in franchise history after his performance in the Los Angeles Clippers’ win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night.

Leonard is in the 15th season of his NBA career, his seventh with the Clippers. Despite injuries impacting his time with the franchise, he continued to shine as one of the league’s best veteran stars when healthy.

His latest game against New Orleans was another example of his elite skills. In 29 minutes of action, Leonard finished with a stat line of 23 points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal. He shot 8 of 18 from the field, including 1 of 7 from beyond the arc and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.

As a result, Leonard has maintained his 20-point streak for the 37th consecutive game. As a result, according to reporter Tomer Azzarly, he made franchise history by tying with Bob McAdoo in statistical scoring.

He made 5 of 6 shots overall, including 1 of 1 from downtown and 8 of 11 from the charity stripe. Derrick Jones Jr. was next with 17 points and two rebounds, Brook Lopez had 16 points and seven rebounds, while John Collins provided 15 points and seven rebounds.

Los Angeles improved to a 28–31 record on the season and finished ninth in the Western Conference standings. They are above the Portland Trail Blazers and Memphis Grizzlies while trailing the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns.

The Clippers will look forward to their next matchup while on the road. They will take on the Warriors as tip-off takes place on March 2 at 10 PM ET.
