Green Bay Packers acquire former Pro Bowl quarterback

Green Bay Packers rumors have been flying throughout the offseason even before Malik Willis left to sign with the Miami Dolphins. No one expected the Packers to get a chance to sign Willis, who was widely expected to get an opportunity to play better elsewhere. Nevertheless, given that Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has long been appreciative of developing quarterbacks, rumors have suggested that Green Bay could trade for another young prospect with untapped potential.

The name most linked to the Packers has been former No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson. While the Indianapolis Colts are open to trading their former first-round pick for forward Daniel Jones. Green Bay’s latest move shows that a trade for Richardson may not be a top priority right now.

On Monday, the Packers announced they have signed 36-year-old QB Tyrod Taylor to a one-year contract to back up starter Jordan Love.

Taylor is a one-time Pro Bowler who spent the past two seasons with the New York Jets, appearing in eight games and making six starts. He completed 62.2% of his passes for 898 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions with the Jets.

Taylor Love joins a somewhat crowded Packers QB depth chart led by Desmond Ridder, Kyle McCord and Kyron Draughns. McCord, 23, was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round last year. The drone is an untested newbie. Ridder is a 26-year-old former third-rounder who has made 18 starts in the NFL, but he is equally unproven.

If nothing else, Taylor brings 15 years of NFL experience to a group that hasn’t seen much time on the field. He will be a veteran voice in the QB room to complement Love. Whether the Packers are still willing to invest more in that group, such as trading a third-day pick for Richardson, remains to be seen, but it’s possible only Love and Taylor make the roster, which could leave room for a developmental option.

Los Angeles Lakers hope to acquire young shooter this summer

The Los Angeles Lakers will have some big decisions to make this offseason regarding the potential future of LeBron James and looming Austin Reaves in free agency. However, the NBA rumors floating around right now are reportedly focused on another deal the team wants to make.

According to Jovan Buha, the Lakers are going to “shop” guard Dalton Knecht throughout the summer. While it’s unclear how much interest there will be in the former first-round pick, Los Angeles will scour the league for potential options.

  • Dalton Knecht Stats (2025-26): 4.0 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 0.6 pts per game, 30.4% 3pts

Knecht, who will turn 25 later this month, played just 515 total minutes in 50 games during the regular season. He made his lone start on November 3 against the Portland Trail Blazers, recording 8 points with 4 rebounds in 23 minutes of action. He has played more than 20 minutes only five times this season and the last time that happened was on November 15.

He has not been a part of the Lakers rotation for over a month. He played 16 minutes against the San Antonio Spurs on February 10 in a 136–108 loss. Even including that action, Knecht has played an average of just 4.5 minutes per game in 16 games since January 15.

  • Dalton Knecht Contract (Spottrack): $4.201 million cap hit (2026–27), $6.452 million club option for 2027–28 season, RFA in 2028

That’s a steep drop for the 17th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Knecht showed flashes of promise as a rookie, averaging 1.6 three-pointers per game while shooting 37.6 percent from beyond the arc and averaging 9.1 ppg. However, it’s worth noting that the majority of that production came in his first 19 games, when he shot 43.9 percent from the perimeter and averaged 2.5 three-pointers and 12.2 PPG.

Knecht has achieved limited value as a perimeter scorer since then, and the 6-foot-6 forward is widely viewed as one of the worst defenders in the NBA. Given how expensive he has proven to be for the Lakers, it’s hard to see his trade value being very high this summer.

Arizona Cardinals acquire All-Pro specialist

Several top free agents have already signed new contracts this offseason. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t still other good deals to be found. The Arizona Cardinals may have just found one.

The Cardinals agreed to terms on a one-year, $2.5 million contract with wide receiver/return specialist Devin DuVernay on Sunday, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. An All-Pro as a returner, DuVernay has bounced back the past few seasons, but he spent 20–25 with the Bears, where he caught two of his five targets for 26 yards and one down. He was much more impressive as a returner.

DuVernay returned 21 punts for 231 yards. As a kick returner, DuVernay returned 40 opportunities for a new career-high 1,069 yards in 2025. His 26.7 yards per kick return average ranked 11th in the NFL, and he was fifth in kick return yards.

Now 28, the two-time Pro Bowler doesn’t have an All-Pro or Pro Bowl season until 2022. Nevertheless, he is clearly still a big factor in the return game, and he will look to continue that success in Arizona next season.

After being drafted as the 92nd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, DuVernay spent the first four seasons of his career with the Ravens. He plays for the Jaguars in 2024, the Bears in 2025, and then the Cardinals.

Golden Knights acquire gritty winger from Predators

The 2026 NHL trade deadline is just days away, but the Vegas Golden Knights see no reason to wait. On Tuesday, they acquired veteran center Cole Smith from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defensive prospect Christopher Seidoff and a 2028 third-round pick.

The trade occurred just hours after a 3–2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Cole Smith, a 30-year-old, 6’3″ winger, is known for his patience. In 270 games with the Predators, he has had 223 PIMs and dropped the gloves 10 times. He also scored 23 goals and recorded 62 points.

Smith was second on the team in hits this season with 119 in 59 games played. He makes just $1 million per year and will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

24-year-old defenseman Christopher Seidoff signed with the Golden Knights organization in March 2023. He played 145 games with the Henderson Silver Knights, scoring 4 goals and recording 28 points.

Los Angeles Chargers may ‘move’ to acquire 3x Pro Bowler

Two years into the Joe Hortiz-Jim Harbaugh regime, the Los Angeles Chargers have learned a lot about their team. After losing in the Wild Card playoffs after 11 consecutive winning seasons, the Chargers know where their strengths and weaknesses lie.

Soon, the Chargers will have a chance to address their team needs when free agency begins on March 9. His front office connections could help him land a potential three-time Pro Bowl center.

Recently, ESPN’s Chris Rimm reported that the Chargers could make “a push” to sign Tyler Linderbaum from the Baltimore Ravens when free agency begins.

“However, Hortiz has shown he will take a somewhat larger swing for a player he is familiar with. This was evident when he traded a fifth-round pick and a seventh-round pick in October for safety Alohi Gilman and Ravens edge rusher Odafe Oweh. Oweh was a 2021 first-round pick who was evaluated by Hortiz.

With that example, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Chargers make a push to sign Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum, one of the top projected free agents and a player Hurtiz had a hand in selecting in the first round of the 2022 draft. Linderbaum was the league’s second-best pass-blocking center in pass block win rate (97.2%). Last season’s Chargers starter, Bradley Bozeman, ranked 30th (92.5%).

ESPN’s Chris Rimm on Tyler Linderbaum

By signing Linderbaum, the Chargers could get a proven solution for one of their biggest weaknesses. Still, is Linderbaum ready to depart Baltimore for Los Angeles? If he was a big John Harbaugh fan, playing for his brother Jim might have been the next best thing.

Or, perhaps he wants to stick around and see what his new offensive-minded head coach, Todd Monken, is able to do behind two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson in Baltimore. Either way, Linderbaum is expected to have more than just the Chargers and Ravens to consider for contract offers this offseason. We’ll have an answer soon when free agency starts.
