Fred VanVleet has a bold excuse for why the Houston Rockets disappointed this season

For Houston Rockets guard Fred VanVleet, there was one special thing he missed this season that led to his disappointing results: Fred VanVleet.

After trading for Kevin Durant over the summer, the Rockets were viewed as a serious threat to the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. And why not? They were a young, talented, defensive-driven team that missed a late-game finisher in 2024-25.

But just before the season began, nine-year veteran VanVleet suffered an ACL injury during a September practice. Although it was a notable loss, most NBA experts believed that the Rockets still had enough talent to remain a force in the West under head coach Ime Udoka. However, despite looking strong early on, they slipped as the season progressed.

They finished the campaign as the fifth seed in the West, and were surprisingly eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs by a Los Angeles Lakers team without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves for most of the series.

Fred VanVleet says the Rockets’ biggest problem in 2025-26 was not having Fred VanVleet

After their disappointing defeat in the playoffs, there has been much speculation as to what went wrong. However, it seems VanVleet believes his absences were the biggest reason for his disappointment in 2025-26 and that next season will be much better.

“I know what I bring to the table and I know having me on the team will make us a better team,” he said in a new video on his YouTube page. “It’s been the same for me on every team I’ve ever been on. Before you get to the game, I’m going to make the team better by being available, being around and bringing my energy.

“My leadership and competitiveness, that’s what it’s all about. I try to make everything I touch better,” he said. “That’s my mentality. I’m not saying I do that, or I don’t, but that’s how I look at it when I go in.”

The one-time All-Star has a $25.5 million player option for next season. From his comments it appears he is likely to exercise or fully expect to sign a new long-term deal for less money annually.

Bold Rousey vs. Carano fight card selection, including Mike Perry upset win over Nate Diaz

On Saturday night inside the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, Most Valuable Promotions and Netflix will be shaking up the mixed martial arts game with their Rousey vs. Carano event. The 11-fight card will showcase the past, present and future of the sport and will feature a star-studded main card.

In the night’s headliner, women’s MMA legends and pioneers, Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano, will face off in a dream fight that no one ever expected. Additionally, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou will be in action against one-time PFL Champion Phillip Lynn, and fan favorite brawlers Nate Diaz and Mike Perry will face off in a welterweight bout.

Ahead of Saturday’s card, we offer predictions for who will win the evening’s main card bouts.

Junior Dos Santos vs. Robellis Despaigne

rousey vs carano
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Junior dos Santos will go down as one of the greatest heavyweight fighters in MMA history. However, the 42-year-old has a lot of wear and tear on his body. Especially his chin. While he has won back-to-back fights at the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships, he faces a tough matchup against bronze medalist Robellis Despaigne of Cuba on Saturday.

The taekwondo master has speed and length – which he uses well. This is demonstrated during the seven-fight winning streak of the new Karate Combat Heavyweight Champion. If this were 2016, the Brazilian would get the W. But he’s nowhere near that fighter and will have a long night against Despaigne.

Francis Ngannou vs. Philip Lins

At Rousey vs. Carano, former UFC heavyweight king Ngannou returns to the cage for the second time after dethroning the MMA world leader four years ago. While the heavyweight division in MMA is quite weak at the moment, MVP found a strong opponent in “The Predator” Lince.

The former PFL star is entering the fight with a lot of confidence after four consecutive wins in the UFC. However, they were all lightweight. Ngannou will have a massive size and strength advantage. If “Monstro” can stay up and running, he could make this interesting. However, he does not possess great strength, and it seems that it will take only a short time for “The Predator” to catch his prey.

Salahdin Parnasse vs. Kenneth Cross

rousey vs carano

Saturday’s Rousey vs. Carano main card brings an intriguing battle of champions as KSW lightweight king Salahdin Parnasse faces tough-n-uff 155-pound titlist Kenneth Cross. This bout could easily be Fight of the Night as both are talented finishers.

Parnasse has 14 stoppages in 22 wins (7 knockouts and 7 submissions), while Cross has 13 finishes in 17 wins (6 knockouts and 7 submissions). Finally, Parnasse comes from a better promotion where he faces tougher competition. Look for him to approve the decision later this week.

Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry

rousey vs carano
Credit: Sarah Stier/Getty Images for Netflix

The fight most fans are waiting for is the welterweight bout between popular brawler Diaz and Perry. The former is one of the most popular fighters in UFC history. However, the age difference in this scrap cannot be ignored.

Diaz turned 41 last month and has 34 fights to his body and chin. Perry has suffered plenty of brain trauma throughout his 22-fight career, but at age 34, he is a far better athlete than he is right now. At the same time, he brings legal power into his hands and is feeling confident having emerged as one of BKFC’s hottest talents.

Diaz is sure to get a lot of stakes, but expect an upset split-decision win for Perry after scoring a few knockdowns during the fight.

Ronda Rousey vs Gina Carano

rousey vs carano
Credit: Sarah Stier/Getty Images for Netflix

No one expected a fight between Rousey and Carano to ever happen and there were many who did not want it to happen. But we’re getting it on Netflix, and it’s still a dream fight with historical relevance as two of the most important figures in the evolution of women’s MMA.

Both women are motivated and look to be in good shape – especially Carano. But it won’t be a display of elite athleticism as Rousey turned 39 last month and Carano turned 44. The big question is, can Rousey avoid taking some big shots to dominate Carano and throw her around?

Rousey is very durable and is the better athlete of the two at the moment. Furthermore, Carano never came close to facing a wrestler of the silver medalist judoka’s caliber. “Rowdy” should have learned from the knockouts in her previous two fights and been more cautious as she looked for takedowns and forced Carano to tap in Round 2.

Bold Mehta Business Road; NYR is looking for the Vegas sniper?

The New Jersey Devils’ ownership was unwilling to compromise for the status quo. That’s why they parted ways with Tom Fitzgerald and brought in Sunny Mehta.

Now, this doesn’t mean that they brought Mehta in with the idea that he would replace Nico Hischier. However, he gave Mehta complete autonomy to do business as he wished.

So if Mehta really wants to differentiate himself from the status quo of the previous regime, he will have to find a way to accomplish what he could not. We will know more about it in the link below.

Elsewhere, a Blueshirts trade target, Philly and Matvey Michkov, and more.

Mehta Bold Quinn Hughes Can Prove He’s Different With Devil’s Trade

Sunny Mehta was brought in as general manager to be bold and he certainly has the opportunity to do that this summer via the New Jersey Devils trade.

Mehta’s background shows that he is willing to take risks having been a former professional poker player, an options trader, and even a professional musician.

So, why wouldn’t he at least try to acquire Quinn Hughes?

You know the story. Quinn is the older brother. Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes have long been associated with New Jersey. It would be crazy to get these three together in New Jersey – the kind of thing fans have been daydreaming about for years.

This was almost a reality in 2025-26. Ultimately, former GM Tom Fitzgerald missed the opportunity and it didn’t happen.

Thus, Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin swooped in and ran the ball back for a touchdown. Wild believed Quinn was one of, if not the final piece of the puzzle that would ultimately lift the Stanley Cup.

Still, Minnesota was devastated by the inevitable Colorado avalanche last night.

With a new person in charge, many are wondering if Mehta will be able to do what the old front office could not.

Quinn is still under contract in Minnesota through next season. He’s coming off another big year, and the Wild are in no position to “sell.”

But contracts eventually end, conditions change, and the family works harder. Therefore this story will not end.

adventure part

If the Devils are serious about it, it will definitely be worth more than just prospects and picks.

Let’s preface this by saying that I’m not advocating that Satanists should or shouldn’t do this. All I’m saying is that it’s the kind of bold move Fitzgerald wouldn’t come close to.

The Wild’s eventual collapse in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs may be due to one very obvious thing. They have no central depth.

In New Jersey, the Devils have a frontline center with the same contract expiration date as Quinn and nearly identical cap hits for the rest of their deals.

Yes. We are talking about the captain. Nico Hischier.

Hischier has been the devil’s heart. He is a reliable, two-way center who leads by example. Trading him for a defenseman – even one as good as Quinn – will feel uncomfortable at first. But hat math is hat math. Quinn wants big money on his next deal. Hischier himself is about to get a big promotion. If you’re trying to fit three Hughes brothers under one hat while trying to build a contender, something’s got to give.

A deal that really catches Minnesota’s attention might look something like this:

  • devils send: Nico Hischier, Simon Nemec (or Anton Silayev), this year’s first rounder, and maybe one more piece
  • devils get:Quinn Hughes

This is a huge offer. You’re leaving your captain and a young NHL defenseman who has a shot at being a top-four prospect.

However, you are becoming arguably the best defenseman in the NHL. And the Wild have been yearning for a legitimate center for years.

Maybe bold doesn’t even cover it.

Will Mehta do this?

We’re talking about a move with a magnitude of 10 here.

However, this is not unfamiliar territory for Mehta. You have to remember, Mehta didn’t get a final shot with his former club, the Florida Panthers. However, he was instrumental in assisting GM Bill Zito with important moves that ultimately led them to consecutive Stanley Cups in the last two seasons.

One of those tricks? The foresight to move Jonathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar in exchange for Matthew Tkachuk.

In the end, that trade ultimately changed the Panthers’ trajectory from bubble threat to legitimate Stanley Cup contenders.

This was the final gamble in which the Panthers lost cash twice.

So no, don’t take such a bold step in front of Mehta. History shows that calculated risks are in its DNA.

Will this also work?

On paper, adding Quinn ahead of Jack and Luke would be ridiculous. The passing, the power play, the ability to control the game from the back end – this will inevitably force the Devils to lean back on their strengths, but on steroids.

As a result, you’ll be centering the situation and diluting your already weak prospect pool at the same time. That doesn’t mean Mehta can’t figure out another 2C solution, but it won’t be easy — they don’t grow on trees, especially ones like Hischier’s that undoubtedly have 1C quality. If this doesn’t change rapidly in the cup window, you’ll have years of regrets.

Mehta’s background in analytics and poker means he probably approaches trades differently than the previous guy. The lower the sentiment, the higher the expected value. Will this lead to any major accomplishments like this in his first few months on the job… who knows.

Right now it’s all smoke. No real traction beyond the usual off-season whispers that I’ve heard. In fact, it’s more likely that Quinn extends to Minnesota.

But that kind of boldness was lacking under the previous regime and that’s what the Devils ownership are hoping Mehta will bring to the table. If the Devils really want to unify the Hughes Triforce, Mehta will have to lure Guerin to the dance.

The offseason is young and Mehta is just getting started. However, he will undoubtedly want to make his mark on the roster.

Will the NY Giants win 12 games in 2026? Top NFL expert makes bold prediction

A top NFL expert offered a bold prediction for the New York Giants that will have Big Blue fans happy heading into the 2026 season.

In November, the Giants were a complete mess. After finishing 3-14 in 2024, head coach Brian Daboll began the 2025 campaign with a miserable 2-8 record that included some brutal losses. Unsurprisingly, this was the last straw for the management, and they fired him midway through the fourth season. It was the right move, but there was no obvious replacement they could turn to.

Then the Baltimore Ravens gifted the Giants with the perfect option: John Harbaugh. Although it wasn’t easy and they are giving a Super Bowl winning coach a lot of money and control over the roster, there is a lot of hope and excitement for the team next season.

Not just because of how good a coach Harbaugh is, but because the Giants have some very good pieces on the roster that were absolutely wasted last season. Additionally, many NFL experts believe the team played well in last month’s draft, which included a pair of first-round picks in Arvel Reese and Francis Mauigoa.

The new coaching staff and roster have many in New York thinking the team can compete for a playoff spot this season. However, ESPN NFL expert Peter Schrager believes they can do even better and compete for the NFC East title.

Peter Schrager loves the NY Giants roster and coaching staff for the 2026 season

veteran
Kevin R. via Wexler-NorthJersey.com/USA TODAY Network Images

In a new conversation with SNY, Scherzer explained why he’s confident the Giants can be an “11 or 12-win team.”

“I think Jimmy and Jose are there. They’ve got a pretty good roster,” Schrager began by saying. “I was a little bit like, ‘Okay, let’s see how this all goes. [with Harbaugh] Based on the appointment process and ‘He is coming, but we have to wait.’ What’s up [General Manager Joe] Schoen, but he’s on the board, and in that offensive room, you’ve got Matt Nagy, Greg Roman, Brian Callahan, three really talented play callers, and two of them are former head coaches.

“And then Harbaugh is the ultimate adult in the room. The way he handled the Malik Nabors podcast appearance during the draft, I thought, was a masterclass on leadership and dealing with this new generation… I don’t think double-digit wins are crazy for the New York Giants.’

Khamzat Chimaev lost his aura at UFC 328? UFC legend has bold opinion

Dustin Poirier believes Khamzat Chimaev’s status in the middleweight division took a meaningful hit at UFC 328 in Newark on Saturday night, and he believes whoever faces Chimaev next will walk away with less psychological damage than previous opponents.

Speaking on UFC on Paramount+ after the show, Poirier also took direct aim at the post-fight moment between Chimaev and Sean Strickland, suggesting that the reconciliation revealed some uneasiness about the entire buildup.

“In the next fight, no matter who he faces, it will be hard to scare him because his aura has been damaged this week,” Poirier said. “With the back-and-forth, I thought it was real. I think it affected his whole aura this week. And putting the belt on Strickland — like, come on, man. He definitely worked for us.”

MMA: UFC 328 Chimaev vs. Strickland
John Jones-Imagen Images

Poirier’s point lies in the fact that Chimaev created a unique figure in the sport. The undefeated record was an important part of his mystique, but there was also a sense of danger that surrounded him in preparation for every fight.

The conversation between Strickland and Chimaev before UFC 328 turned into some of the harshest pre-fight trash talk in recent memory, touching on religion, ethnicity, and physical threats, which made the confrontation truly unsettling.

In Poirier’s view, Chimaev’s willingness to make peace with Strickland immediately after the final bell rang, diminished the authenticity of everything that preceded it. The entire fight was competitive. All three judges scored the contest two rounds each and the fifth round before two of them awarded the fight to Strickland in the final round and by split decision, giving Chimaev the first loss of his MMA career and stripping him of the middleweight championship.

Whether Chimaev gets an immediate rematch or Strickland defends against another challenger has not yet been confirmed by the UFC.

Insider reveals the bold strategy behind San Francisco Giants trade

The San Francisco Giants made headlines this weekend with their first big trade of the season, dealing Patrick Bailey to the Cleveland Browns. Although this immediately opened up more playing time for Daniel Susack and Jesus Rodriguez, there was reportedly another strategy behind it.

Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY reported that part of the Giants’ objective with the trade is to set themselves up to select shortstop Roch Cholowski in the 2026 MLB Draft.

As part of the trade, San Francisco received the 29th overall pick from the Guardians. While first-round selections in the MLB Draft cannot be traded, selections in the competitive balance round can be dealt. So, San Francisco now has two top-30 selections along with four of the top-90 selections.

The acquisition of the 29th overall pick also means they will receive an additional $3.27 million in bonus pool money. According to MLB.com, he now has the fourth-largest bonus pool at $17.35 million. This allows them to go above the slot value for the fourth overall pick ($8.988 million), theoretically giving them the flexibility to sign Cholowski if he’s on the board.

Will the Giants draft Roch Cholowski?

San Francisco Giants, Roch Cholowski
Steven Branscombe-Imagen Images

6-foot-2 shortstop Roch Cholowski is widely viewed as the best player in the 2026 MLB draft class. UCLA’s star shortstop has been excellent this season, posting a .338/.463/.707 triple-slash line with 59 RBIs and 21 home runs in 198 at-bats.

The right-handed hitter is rated as the No. 1 prospect in the 2026 MLB Draft class by MLB Pipeline, with ESPN.com’s Kiley McDaniel and Baseball America also rating Cholowski as the top player available.

However, there is a loophole in this reported objective that veterans may or may not have as part of belly trading. Cholowski will not be available at the fourth pick. Even on the off chance that the Chicago White Sox would pass on the UCLA shortstop, the Tampa Bay Rays would take him.

San Francisco would also like to get their hands on Georgia Tech catcher Von Lackey, but he is widely speculated to either be taken second overall by Tampa Bay or selected third overall by the Minnesota Twins. In all likelihood the Giants will choose between UC Santa Barbara starting pitcher Jackson Flora or prep shortstop Jacob Lombard. With the 29th overall pick, there is a higher chance that the team will grab a prospect who falls short of his asking price and they move on to sign him.

5 bold Boston Celtics trade ideas this offseason, including deals for Adebayo and Giannis

The Boston Celtics performed better than anyone expected in 2025-26. They entered this season with very low expectations as there was no guarantee that top star Jayson Tatum would suit up as he recovered from a torn Achilles suffered the previous spring. However, an MVP-caliber season from Jaylen Brown and a defense that gave up a league-leading 107.2 points per game, earning them the No. 2 seed in the East playoffs.

With Tatum returning in March and immediately looking impressive, the Celtics began the postseason as favorites to reach the NBA Finals. However, despite having a 3–1 series lead over the Philadelphia 76ers, they were surprisingly eliminated in the opening round for the first time since the bubble playoffs.

His exit in the first round raises many questions on the structure of this team. Could they be finals contenders as they try to field two players with supermax contracts? Is making the playoffs every year enough? If the goal is to compete for championships, the Celtics need to make some big changes.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at five bold deals the Celtics could make this summer.

Bam Adebayo, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and first-round picks Jaylen Brown in 2028, 2030 and 2032

bam adebayo
jim russol-image images

If the Celtics decide they need to move one of those supermax contracts, Brown will likely be the odd man out, despite being an MVP candidate. But if they ever wanted to trade him, now would be the right time as his value is as high as it will ever be.

If there’s any glaring weakness for Boston, it’s in the front court. If they trade Brown, they still have strong core talent in Tatum and Derrick White. This is why Miami Heat great Bam Adebayo could be a trade target. He will give them both a defensive force on the front line and a good scorer who will help make up for the points left due to losing the Browns.

A deal that sends Adebayo, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and two future first-round picks should get a deal done.

Jaylen Brown, Malik Monk, two first picks, including lottery selection in June, for Domantas Sabonis

Domantas Saboni
Ed Szczepanski-Imagen Images

Another potential target to strengthen the front court could be three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis. While the Sacramento Kings star isn’t a defensive force, he is an elite rebounder and can stretch the floor just like Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford.

To put the money to work, the Celtics would need to pick up the two years and $41 million remaining on Malik Monk’s contract. But if they get two first-rounders back in the deal, including the Kings’ lottery pick in June, that’s fine. The biggest issue is that Sacramento will have to find a trade for Zach LaVine and/or DeMar DeRozan after a deal is made.

Derrick White for Jakob Poeltl and Grady Dick

Jakob Poeltl
ken blaze-image images

The Celtics don’t need to trade Brown to be better in 2026-27. However, this would mean they would have to move on from fan-favorite defensive player Derrick White. A potential trade could see the two-time All-Defensive Team honoree sent to the Toronto Raptors for centers Jakob Poeltl and Grady Dick.

While it’s not a sexy trade on the surface, Poeltl is a rock-solid and strong anchor in the front court that does everything you need to stabilize that position. As for Dick, he could be a potential steal who could be an impact player in Joe Mazzulla’s three-point-heavy attack.

Jaylen Brown for Giannis Antetokounmpo

celtics
Paul Rutherford-Imagen Images

Since Brown had such an impressive season, another option would be a swap for Milwaukee Bucks great Giannis Antetokounmpo. While the Greek icon has more accolades, Brown is a few years younger and far healthier than the 10-time All-Star has been in recent years. If necessary, the Celtics can add a future first-rounder, but they shouldn’t add more than that.

The Bucks will get to build a new star in his prime, while the Celtics can experiment with the combo of Antetokounmpo and Tatum for a season. If that doesn’t work out, they free up a ton of cap space after next season if he opts out in search of a new long-term deal.

Jaylen Brown for Alpern Sengun, Fred VanVleet and two first-round picks

NBA: Playoffs-Los Angeles Lakers at Houston Rockets
Eric Williams-Imagen Images

An interesting young star who could be on the trade block this summer, and who addresses the Celtics’ frontcourt needs, is Houston Rockets two-time All-Star Alpern Sengun. While he has been questioned for his play consistently and early in the playoffs, he is still only 23 and has excelled in Ime Udoka’s defense-first system.

Houston would be interested in a championship by pairing Jaylen Brown with Kevin Durant in 2026-27. But Sengun and Tatum have plenty of long-term potential. Additionally, to make the money work, the Celtics would get veteran guard Fred VanVleet (if he opts into the final year of his deal) and two future first-round picks.

Bold picks for Cavaliers vs. Pistons, Lakers vs. Thunder

The second round of the NBA Playoffs ended on Monday night, with the New York Knicks earning an emphatic win in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals and the Minnesota Timberwolves defeating the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

This takes us to the NBA games today, with a Game 1 matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder. With two great bouts on deck, we’re making some predictions for each contest.

Donovan Mitchell downed 30-burgers

nba games today
ken blaze-image images

The Pistons will bring a level of physicality that could result in some game-to-game inconsistency for Donovan Mitchell. However, they do not have a standout defender like Scotty Barnes who can really cause problems for them. Mitchell averaged nearly 21 shots per game in the first-round series and we should see a similar amount in Game 1. We are projecting him to score over 32 points tonight, he will be the only Cavaliers player to score 20 points.

Detroit Pistons beat Cavaliers in Game 1

nba games today predictions
david richard-imagen images

While Mitchell will do his best to help the Cleveland Cavaliers get a Game 1 win on the road, it’s going to be a one-man operation. Both Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley will struggle with the physicality provided in Detroit’s frontcourt with Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart. We also see that James Harden had an outing in which he turned it over 7 times while making only four shots. It would be relatively close in the fourth quarter, but Detroit won it.

  • Prediction: Detroit Pistons 116, Cleveland Cavaliers 108

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander reaches 50 points

nba games today predictions
Mark J. rebilas-imagen images

We think there’s a chance we’ll see a 50-point game tonight. The Los Angeles Lakers have no answer for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander defensively. As highlighted by The Athletic’s Law Murray, SGA scored 83 points and shot 55.2 percent from the field against Los Angeles in the regular season. He’s willing to take more than 20 shots if necessary and it’s almost a lock that he’ll get to the free-throw line more than 10 times. In Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals on national television, SGA scored more than 48 points.

OKC Thunder blow out LA Lakers in Game 1

nba games today
Alonzo Adams-Imagen Images

With Luka Doncic out, it looks like this is the only one-sided matchup in the NBA Conference Semifinals. The Lakers are relying heavily on Austin Reaves, who is recovering from injury, and 41-year-old LeBron James to carry this team forward. It worked against Houston, but is not going to have any success against a Thunder team that is deeper, better coached and more well-developed. Playing at home in Game 1, Oklahoma City would effectively win. When it’s over, the only question will be whether the Thunder will have to deal with rust in the next round since it will be a short series.

  • Prediction: Oklahoma City Thunder 122, Los Angeles Lakers 95

5 bold moves that could reshape the Florida Panthers this 2026 offseason

The Florida Panthers enter the 2026 offseason with real pressure to remain in contention while managing a tight salary cap and an aging population. After missing the Stanley Cup playoffs, the front office faces difficult decisions that could define the next era of the franchise.

From potential roster shakeups to smart, cost-cutting moves and strategic retools, several bold options are already on the table. Here are five moves that could reshape the Panthers next season.

Mackie Samoskevich signs long-term contract with Florida

NHL: Florida Panthers at Washington Capitals
Geoff Burke-Imagen Images

Mackie Samoskevich is about to become a restricted free agent after signing a one-year, one-way contract worth $775,000 last offseason. Rather than a short-term deal, the Panthers should sign Samoskevich to a long-term contract to keep him with the organization. The 23-year-old forward is good for the bottom six, and the contract will allow him to progress into that role after a good end to the season.

AJ Greer comes back for another run with the Panthers

NHL: Florida Panthers at Montreal Canadiens
David Kirouac-Imagen Images

AJ Greer was not moved at the NHL trade deadline as a pending free agent, and Florida should bring him back. The Panthers should give Greer a three-year contract after his breakout season. The 29-year-old forward scored 17 goals and 32 total points, bringing much-needed physicality. If Florida returns next season, Greer would be a wonderful depth piece.

Florida Panthers re-sign goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky

NHL: Buffalo Sabers at Florida Panthers

Sergei Bobrovsky is set to enter NHL free agency, but the Panthers shouldn’t let that happen this summer. Florida should re-sign Bobrovsky to a short-term contract and make him the starting goaltender for another Stanley Cup playoff push. The 37-year-old struggled to produce during the 2025-26 NHL season, but he should be better next year.

If the Panthers bring back Bobrovsky, he will be the only main goaltender on the roster at this time. Daniil Tarasov is scheduled to become a free agent; However, the team would not bring him back in this scenario. Instead, the Panthers will be looking for a new backup goaltender, with Connor Ingram, Cameron Talbot, Stuart Skinner and Frederik Andersen representing good experienced options in NHL free agency.

Ottawa Senators trade Brady Tkachuk to Panthers

The Panthers have the ammunition to make a big trade, and Ottawa Senators forward Brady Tkachuk would be the best option. Tkachuk has been linked to Florida for years because of his brother, Matthew Tkachuk, and he could request a trade this offseason. If the Panthers want to reshape the roster for another Stanley Cup Finals appearance, trading for Tkachuk would be the biggest answer.

A bold prediction for each player in the New York Giants’ 2026 draft class

The New York Giants have received high praise for their 2026 draft class and are viewed as one of the winners of the draft. We’ll have to see how the seven players perform on the field to assess them, but the outlook for the seven players selected by the Giants appears to be promising.

  • Averell Reese, LB, Ohio State (5th overall)
  • Francis Mauigoa, OT Miami (10th overall)
  • Colton Hood, CB Tennessee (37)th overall)
  • Malachi Fields, WR Notre Dame (74th overall)
  • Bobby Jamison-Travis, DT Auburn (186th overall)
  • Jesse Davis, OL Illinois (192Ra overall)
  • Jack Kelly, LB BYU (193third overall)

The Giants acquired two opening day starters in Reese and Mauigoa and potentially a third starter in Hood. They also added depth and players who would contribute on special teams.

These players would play a huge role in building the foundation of the John Harbaugh era with Big Blue. Here are our bold predictions on what to expect from each player in the 2026 draft class.

RELATED: Report suggests New York Giants GM Joe Schoen could be fired soon

averell reese

Shortly after taking Averell Reese with the fifth overall pick, Harbaugh said the rookie linebacker would play on the inside. The versatile Reese will show off his playmaking ability and make plays sideline to sideline. Reese would not only lead the Giants in tackles, but he would have the most tackles of any rookie, be named to the All-Rookie team, and be voted to the Pro Bowl.

Francis Mauigoa

NFL: New York Giants draft press conference
Tom Horak-Imagen Images

Despite playing right tackle at the University of Miami, Mauigoa will be the team’s new starting right guard. He will start all 17 games at guard and help reduce the number of sacks given up by the line from 48 in 2025 to 30 in 2026. He would also be named to the All-Rookie Team.

colton hood

NCAA Football: Tennessee at Mississippi State
Wesley Hale-Imagen Images

Hood would spend the first half of the season in and out of the starting lineup. Then in the second half of the season, he would emerge as the full-time starter opposite Paulson Adebo. He will bring big play ability to the secondary as he has two pick-sixes on the season.

Malachi Fields

NCAA Football: Purdue at Notre Dame
Michael Caterina-Imagen Images

The 6’4, 223-pound Fields is the biggest target in the Giants’ wide receiver room. As the season progressed, his playing time would gradually increase, and he would become one of Jackson Dart’s favorite targets in the red zone. Fields scored five receiving touchdowns in each of his final three years in college, and as a rookie, he would also find the end zone five times.

bobby jamison-travis

Syndication: Montgomery Advertiser
Jake Crandall/Advertiser/USA TODAY Network via Imagine Images

Jamison-Travis is the only defensive lineman the team took in the draft, so they definitely have plans to help the interior defense. His 6’4 322-pound frame allows him to stack blockers so his teammates can make plays, and he will clog running lanes. His stats won’t be off the charts, but he will play a big role in improving the team to their 31scheduled tribe Run defense from a season ago.

jesse davis

NCAA Football: Big Ten Media Days
Lucas Peltier-Imagen Images

A sixth-round pick is never guaranteed to make the final roster, but Davis appeared in 47 games during his collegiate career, and the franchise has always preferred players with lots of experience. He will make the final roster and add depth to the line. Teams can convert him from tackle to guard, and he can be used in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

jack kelly

NFL: Combine
Kirby Lee-Images Images

The Giants’ final pick in the draft could end up being the best value pick in the draft. The versatile and offensive linebacker had 75 tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks in his two seasons at BYU. The defensive coordinator will integrate Kelly into the defensive rotation, but Kelly will also make a big impact on special teams, as he will lead the Giants in special teams tackles this season.

3 Bold Predictions for Knicks vs. Hawks Game 4: Can New York Survive?

Things are looking pretty bad for the New York Knicks right now. They currently trail the series against the Atlanta Hawks 2-1 and will play again at State Farm Arena for Game 4 on Saturday.

They really need to win this game if they want to keep the series going. If they lose another game then it will be very difficult for them to make a comeback in the series.

The series has unfolded completely differently than anyone in New York had expected. The Knicks won Game 1 but lost Games 2 and 3 by a combined two points, with both losses decided by the final possession.

In Game 3, the Hawks again answered in the fourth quarter, with CJ McCollum and Jonathan Kuminga scoring points. New York had 18 turnovers and made only 28.6% of their shots from three-point range.

A 3-1 series loss against the Hawks would be a disaster for a team built to go deep. Mike Brown knows this. This is what every Knicks fan is watching. Here are three bold predictions for Game 4.

Prediction 1: Jalen Brunson scores over 25 and plays like himself again

NBA: Playoffs-New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks
Brett Davis-Imagen Images

Brunson has scored 26, 29 and 28 points in back-to-back games in this series, so the points have clearly been up. But unfortunately, he has also been responsible for every misstep of late. In Game 3, not only did he miss a three-pointer in the air with 16 seconds remaining, but he turned the ball over on the last play as the Knicks were unable to even attempt a shot.

This is a game where Brunson needs to look like himself from start to finish, not just in detail. Playoff Brunson is a different player. Last year, before the Knicks took on the Pacers, he was one of the best closers in the league, and there’s no reason why that player couldn’t show up in Game 4.

Brunson drops at least 25 and makes the right play when the game is on the line.

Prediction 2: Mikal Bridges struggles again and sees fewer minutes

NBA: Playoffs-New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks
Brett Davis-Imagen Images

Bridges had no points in Game 3, going 0-for-3 with one rebound and two assists in 21 minutes. In four-quarter periods in Games 2 and 3, they had zero field goals and six total turnovers.

Mike Brown took him out in the third quarter and kept him on the bench for most of the second half.

Miles McBride got 31 minutes while Bridges only got 21 minutes, and the Knicks were clearly more effective with that smaller lineup. Since Bridges is having trouble in this matchup, it’s hard to imagine Brown falling back on him in heavy moments when McBride is giving him more on the floor.

Prediction: Bridges plays less than 25 minutes again, and McBride handles the bulk of those extra possessions.

Prediction 3: Karl-Anthony Towns posts a double-double and stays on the floor

NBA: Playoffs-Atlanta Hawks at New York Knicks
brad penner-image images

Towns had 21 points and 17 rebounds in Game 3, and he was certainly the best big man on the floor all night. The issue is that the Knicks are finding it difficult to utilize him in the most important moments; In fact, the final play went to Brunson.

As a small team, the Hawks and Towns demonstrated very clearly what this mismatch will look like when it comes to offense.

The Browns should keep Towns on the court for a full 40 minutes instead of just longer, because with the production from both Towns and Brunson, New York is a completely different team.

If these three things happen, the Knicks may very well win.

Prediction: Towns gets at least 22 points and 11 rebounds, and New York wins 110-102 to tie the series 2-2.

New mock draft predicts LA Rams will make bold trade for potential Puka Nakua replacement

A notable NFL mock draft suggests the Los Angeles Rams will make one of the biggest trades of the 2026 event for a player considered the best at his position.

After falling just short of reaching the Super Bowl earlier this year, the Rams’ brain trust is motivated to finish the story in 2026. And why not? They will bring back most of the same roster, including reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford.

However, they made some notable changes the following season to overcome division rivals and defending league champions, the Seattle Seahawks. They made a blockbuster trade for Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro Trent McDuffie. Then added his teammate Jaylen Watson in free agency. His aggressiveness has earned him the praise of rival officials.

Now, they will look for more players who can contribute in this week’s NFL Draft. They have one less selection in the first round after giving up their selection at 29th overall in the McDuffie trade. However, they still have the 13th overall pick. At that spot, they should be able to get a very good player. But there are rumors that they may not be enough.

Could the Los Angeles Rams trade up in the draft for Cornell Tate?

crowbar
Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch/USA TODAY Network via Images

Maybe that’s why The Athletic’s Rams reporter Nate Atkins predicted a bold move in the outlet’s latest NFL mock draft that would have them give up the Nos. 13 and 61 picks and a 2027 fifth-rounder this week.

Atkins wrote, “The Rams are often trying to reach the top 10, but often have to go very far to achieve it.” “This year is different. They move from No. 13 to No. 6 to pursue potential receiver run backs. Carnell Tate is an option in this draft who projects as a future No. 1 pick without injury concerns. And that matters if the Rams are unsure about paying Puka Nakua.”

Atkins mentions that if Makai Lemon were still available at pick 13, he believes the Rams would remain in that slot. But receivers can blow up from that board to the back end of the top 10. This trade would bring to L.A. the player draft evaluators consider the most NFL-ready receiver at the moment.

Nacua is entering the final year of his rookie contract. After two Pro Bowl appearances in three seasons, re-signing him would seem like a no-brainer. However, the ongoing civil lawsuit and erratic behavior off the field over the past six months has raised some doubts over whether he can be invested in in the long term. The 24-year-old recently completed treatment at a holistic care and rehabilitation facility to deal with his recent internal troubles.

NASCAR Predictions Talladega: 5 Bold Guesses and a First-Time Winner

Who wins the NASCAR race this weekend? The season is here, the Cup Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway for the Jack Link’s 500 on Sunday afternoon. As we do every week, our NASCAR predictions attempt to project what will happen, from who will win on pole to stage winners and who will end up in victory lane.

Let’s take a look at our Jack Link’s 500 predictions at Talladega.

Kyle Busch wins pole at Dega

NASCAR Predictions Talladega, Kyle Busch
Vasha Hunt-Imagen Images

The only bright spot for the No. 8 team this season came when it won the pole at the Daytona 500. During this Kyle Busch winless streak, superspeedways have been one of the few tracks where he has had some success. Richard Childress Racing, although making mistakes with car setup everywhere else, knows how to build its cars for Talladega, as evidenced by Busch’s 3.3 average starting position since 2024. At the track where he finished fourth in the spring 2024 race and second in the spring 2025 race, Busch got the pole at Dega on Saturday.

Austin Cindric wins Stage 1

NASCAR Predictions Talladega
Vasha Hunt-Imagen Images

Team Penske needs to bounce back after a poor performance at Texas. To Austin Cindric’s credit, he did better than his two teammates (12th). Now the driver of the No. 2 car arrives at Talladega, where he scored stage wins in both races during the 2024 season and turned a third-place finish in Stage 2 last spring into a win in Jack Link’s 500 last year. While we don’t anticipate Cindric getting back to victory lane this weekend, he’ll get a Stage 1 win and jump above The Chase cutline after Sunday.

Joey Logano wins Stage 2

NASCAR Predictions Talladega
John David Mercer-Imagen Images

We’re predicting a sweeping stage win for Team Penske at Degas. Logano would finish in the top four in Stage 1 and then, with some help from crew chief Paul Wolfe and the No. 22’s pit crew, navigate the much shorter Stage 2 to score 10 much-needed points. It will all be a part of an excellent points day for the No. 22 car, which finishes in the top five in scoring and moves into the top 10 of NASCAR Cup Series points leaders next week.

Tyler Reddick, Ty Gibbs fall out of top 10

NASCAR Predictions Talladega
eric kanha-imagen images

Ty Gibbs has finished in the top-10 in seven consecutive races, and Tyler Reddick has boasted an impressive 10.5 average finishing position at Talladega over the last four races, in addition to his five wins this year. We’re guessing both drivers won’t meet that high on Sunday. As for Gibbs, his performance at Texas honestly left much to be desired, and we have real concerns about how well he’ll fare in traffic at Degas. Meanwhile, in a season where a lot has gone right for the No. 45 team, Reddick’s luck ran out on Sunday with car problems that ultimately caused him to fall out of the top 20.

In his 90th race, Carson Hocevar would score his first win in the Cup Series. Over the past year he has proven he has the speed to take him to victory lane, and now the experience of running in all those races is paying off. Hocevar is set to battle Logano, Kyle Larson, Austin Dillon and Chase Briscoe on Sunday’s final stage at Talladega. His teammates may not like what he does to win, but Hocevar comes away with a win and ends what proves to be one of the most exciting moments of the 2026 season.

5 bold NFL Draft predictions for Round 1, including Jeremiah Love and a trade

Round 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft begins Thursday night and everyone knows Fernando Mendoza will be the first overall pick by the Las Vegas Raiders. After that, chaos can happen and we’re trying to present some surprises that could happen on draft night.

Let’s take a look at our final set of bold 2026 NFL Draft predictions for Round 1.

New Orleans Saints trade up for No. 3 pick

Bold 2026 NFL Draft Predictions
Samantha Madar/Columbus Dispatch/USA TODAY Network via Images

Myriad of NFL Draft rumors have made it clear that the Arizona Cardinals are engaged in talks to trade down from No. 3 overall. A deal with the Kansas City Chiefs is certainly possible, but general manager Mickey Loomis’ history of draft-day aggression leads us to believe it would be the New Orleans Saints. Along with the quarterback, New Orleans needs to find its own blue-chip talent on the defensive side. That would be Arvel Reese. While David Bailey is the better pass rusher at the moment, Reese offers more versatility as a player with a higher ceiling overall. He could be the centerpiece of the Saints defense for a decade.

New York Giants snag Jordan Tyson, Caleb Downs

Bold 2026 NFL Draft Predictions
Mark J. rebilas-imagen images

The Dexter Lawrence trade allows the New York Giants to double dip into this attractive prospect pool, addressing needs on both sides of the ball. We think the New York Giants will use the fifth overall pick on wide receiver Jordan Tyson, betting that his injury issues are behind him. When healthy, Tyson is a true No. 1 receiver whose skillset will complement Malik Nabors greatly. For the Giants, this gives Jackson Dart two No. 1 receivers to pair with tight end Isaiah Potential. With the 10th overall selection, head coach John Harbaugh is reminiscent of what the Baltimore Ravens did with the selection of Kyle Hamilton a few years ago. In grabbing All-American safety Caleb Downs at No. 10, New York gets a high-end starter who can do it all.

Washington Commanders Draft Jeremiah Love

Bold 2026 NFL Draft Predictions
Stan Szeto-Imagen Images

Although there is a lot of talk that the Tennessee Titans could choose to bring back Jeremiah Love, we believe Robert Saleh will get his preferred player in David Bailey. So, with Tyson landing in New York, the Washington commanders’ dream scenario unfolds. Running backs may not be the Commanders’ highest need, but blue-chip edge defenders are off the board. It’s also worth remembering that many teams view Love as the best player in the 2026 NFL Draft. He may be just a level below Bijan Robinson as a prospect, but Love’s three-down ability and home-run explosiveness are reminiscent of an All-Pro. That’s the ability you want to pair with Jaden Daniels and Washington will get him.

RELATED: Why the Titans shouldn’t draft Jeremiah Love

Los Angeles Rams boost offense with Makai Lemon

Bold 2026 NFL Draft Predictions
Kirby Lee-Images Images

If it hasn’t already been made clear, the Los Angeles Rams are all set heading into the 2026 season and are putting together possibly the best supporting cast around Matthew Stafford. That means selecting wide receiver Makai Lemon with the 13th overall pick. Lemon will be in a position to have plenty of guys to feed into in the Rams’ passing game, but he will also share the field with Puka Nakua and receive guidance from Davante Adams. If he can even be a discount version of Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Rams’ passing attack could be one of the best the NFL has seen in over a decade.

Arizona Cardinals trade up in Round 1 for Ty Simpson

Bold 2026 NFL Draft Predictions
Gary Cosby Jr./USA TODAY Network via Imagen Images

We think a pair of NFC West teams would make unlikely trade partners in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. With the Seattle Seahawks actively seeking more draft capital this year, the Cardinals are taking advantage. After moving down from No. 3 earlier in the night and selecting right tackle Francis Mauigoa, the Cardinals tapped into their war chest of draft picks and moved up two spots from the 34th to 32nd selection overall. This secures a fifth-year option on quarterback Ty Simpson, while Seattle picks up some additional draft picks and possibly lands a player with the second pick in Round 2 that would be taken to end Round 1. A win-win for everyone, and Simpson walks into a position with an advanced offensive line and a great supporting cast of weapons in Trey McBride, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson.

Bold Knicks vs. Hawks Game 2 Predictions

Game 1 gave the New York Knicks a strong early lead in the series, but it also showed that Atlanta could remain in the battle down the stretch. Jalen Brunson started off with sharp scoring, Karl-Anthony Towns took over after halftime, and New York held off the Hawks’ last-ditch effort for a 113–102 victory.

The focus now turns to Madison Square Garden for Game 2 on Monday night, and the Hawks will need a sharp response if they are to avoid a 2-0 loss. Atlanta was competitive for a long time in Game 1, and regular season meetings show that this matchup always looks closer than the scoreboard suggests.

Jalen Brunson exceeds 25 points again

Brunson looks to be the safest scoring bet in this series. He had already scored 28 points in Game 1, and the Knicks relied on him before Towns took over. The big reason to expect another big night is matchup history: Against Atlanta in the regular season, Brunson averaged 29.3 points and 7.8 assists, a sign that the Hawks have struggled to keep him from dictating the pace.

New York’s offense often runs on its ability to create in the half court, and with the series still being tight, the Knicks are likely to keep the ball in their hands when the game slows down.

Karl-Anthony Towns posts double-double

Karl-Anthony Towns, New York Knicks

The city is the second biggest problem facing Atlanta. He finished Game 1 with 25 points, and 19 of them came after halftime, showing how dangerous he can be once he gets set. The best part of this prediction is the rebounding angle: Towns has the size and usage to stack the boards, and he averaged 13.5 rebounds in the two regular season meetings against Atlanta, while scoring 28.5 points per game.

This type of production makes a double-double very realistic, especially if the Hawks focus too much on Brunson and leave Towns space to work inside and on the glass.

Hawks fight hard, but lose

NBA: New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks
Dell Janine-Imagen Images

Atlanta should not be expected to roll over. The Hawks went 20–6 after the All-Star break to clinch the No. 6 seed, and in Game 1 they got 26 points from CJ McCollum and 23 points from Jalen Johnson to close the gap briefly in the fourth quarter.

That said, New York has already shown it can answer every Hawks run, and the Knicks were also 30-10 at home this season. Game 2 should be more competitive than the final score suggests, but the Knicks still have the deep late-game lead and cleaner star power. Expect Atlanta to make it uncomfortable, then come back short again.

final predictions: Knicks 118, Hawks 112

Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images

3 bold predictions for the New York Giants during the 2026 NFL Draft

After trading Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals, the New York Giants now have the fifth and 10th picks.th Overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Before the Lawrence trade, mock drafts varied widely on who the Giants would take with the fifth pick. Now that they have two top 10 picks, they have a good chance to add two players who have been linked to them.

Anything can happen in the NFL Draft, especially this year because there are six teams, including the Giants, who have two selections in the first round. Here are three bold predictions from Big Blue for the 2026 NFL Draft.

Giants draft Ohio State superstars Sonny Styles and Caleb Downs

Syndication: The Columbus Dispatch
Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch/USA TODAY Network via Images

For the past few months there has been debate over who New York should make with its first pick. The players most discussed are Notre Dame running back Jeremiah Love and Ohio State Buckeyes All-Americans Sonny Styles and Caleb Downs.

Unfortunately for New York, Love will not be on the board as the Tennessee Titans will take him with the fourth overall pick. So, with the fifth overall pick and the first pick of the John Harbaugh era, New York will take Styles with the fifth pick.

With the addition of Styles, the Giants have the best interior linebacker in the draft, and then they will run into some good fortune as Downs will still be on the board at 10, which will allow them to draft the best safety in the draft.

Having the best players at two spots will be a huge benefit to a struggling defense in the coming years. Styles and Downs played key roles in the Buckeyes winning the National Championship in 2024 and Giants fans hope they will someday help bring home the franchise’s fifth Lombardi Trophy.

The Giants find Dexter Lawrence’s replacement in Kayden McDonald

Syndication: The Columbus Dispatch
Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch/USA TODAY Network via Images

With Lawrence gone, Big Blue will need to focus on the defensive tackle position as they are very thin at the position. Players’ luck falling to them would continue as Ohio State defensive tackle Cayden McDonald would fall to them with 37.th Overall selection.

Some believe McDonald could be taken late in the first round, while others think that since he only had one year as a full-time starter, he could slide to the second round. In his final year with the Buckeyes. The 6’2, 326-pound defensive lineman had 65 tackles with three sacks, and was named a unanimous All-American.

He will be the third consecutive Buckeye the Giants will draft, but more importantly, he will be Lawrence’s replacement.

Giants trade Kayvon Thibodeaux on second day of NFL draft

NFL: Los Angeles Chargers at New York Giants
brad penner-image images

With Kayvon Thibodeaux entering the final year of his contract, the 25-year-old edge rusher has been the subject of trade rumors since the conclusion of the 2025 season. The Giants are on the edge with second-team All-Pro Brian Burns and second-year player Abdul Carter.

New York does not have a third-round selection, and with several positions needing to be addressed, the team will actively try to acquire more selections. Thibodaux is an ideal candidate for a trade during day three of the draft, as the franchise has no plans beyond 2026, and other teams could always use a quality edge rusher.

By trading Thibodaux for a mid-round pick, the team could consider acquiring a wide receiver like Indiana’s Elijah Sarratt or Notre Dame’s Malachi Fields. Or the team could consider addressing the interior offensive line with Kentucky’s Jalen Farmer, or a cornerback like South Carolina’s cornerback Brandon Cisse, or Ohio State’s Davison Igbinosun.

The Giants are building for 2026 and beyond, and trading a pass rusher in the final year of his deal for a player who can help the team in the years to come makes a lot of sense.

5 bold MLB predictions this week, including Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge

As we enter another week of the 2026 Major League Baseball season, all 30 clubs have now played at least 20 games. A lot of teams are in a hot spot at the moment and one club in particular is very cold. As the weekend action approaches its conclusion, we’ll try and project what will happen on the MLB schedule this week.

Let’s take a look at our bold MLB predictions for the upcoming games this week.

Carson Benz hits first HR since Opening Day

5 bold MLB predictions this week
Gregory Fisher-Imagen Images

This prediction is definitely not about numbers. After all, the New York Mets entered Sunday on a 10-game losing streak, and rookie outfielder Carson Benz has made 68 plate appearances since last homering on Opening Day. Of particular concern is that he has collected only one extra-base hit (double) in his last 62 plate appearances and has put up an abysmal .140/.210/.158 triple-slash line over that span. However, we’re here to say that Benz’s power drought will end at some point this week with a home run against Simeon Woods Richardson (Wednesday) at Citi Field or a three-game homestand against the Colorado Rockies. The Mets would win that game as well.

Shota Imanaga gets 10+ Ks in consecutive starts

mlb predictions this week
kyle ross-image images

With the Chicago Cubs without three starters – Justin Steele, Matthew Boyd and Cade Horton, there is even more pressure on Shota Imanaga’s shoulders. Last week, he was lights-out against the Philadelphia Phillies with 11 strikeouts and only 3 hits allowed in 6 innings. Facing the same team in consecutive starts isn’t ideal, but the Phillies’ lineup has the fifth-highest strikeout rate in MLB (24.3 percent) since April 5. We think we have another gem coming from Imanaga this week.

Shohei Ohtani homers 5 hitless innings

mlb predictions this week
jeanne kamin-onsia-imagen images

In his major-league career, Shohei Ohtani has boasted a .930 OPS with 10 home runs against the San Francisco Giants, and he has hit 4 home runs in 58 career at-bats at Oracle Park. Not only are we seeing the Los Angeles Dodgers’ two-way star pitching deep this week in San Francisco, but we also think he’ll make it through 5 hitless innings against the Giants’ lineup.

Cleveland Guardians lead 5-1

mlb predictions this week
Brett Davis-Imagen Images

Starting pitching has carried the Cleveland Guardians this season, demonstrated by the fact that the team entered Sunday with the third-lowest rotation ERA (3.00) in baseball. Fortunately for the Guardians lineup, there is a “Be Right” series this month to start the week against the Houston Astros pitching staff, which has an ERA of 6.80 (worst in MLB). We believe Cleveland beats the Astros at home and then goes to Toronto to take a three-game series, and solidify their position at the top of the AL Central by coming out of the week with a 5-1 record.

Aaron Judge Homers Twice vs. Boston Red Sox

mlb predictions this week
brad penner-image images

Aaron Judge is going to have some fun at Fenway Park this week. They get a three-game series against a Boston Red Sox pitching staff that has allowed the fifth-most home runs (26) in baseball this season, tied with the Colorado Rockies (25). Although he has not had a high average at Fenway (.217) in his career, he still has 12 homers in this ballpark, 3 of which came last season. It may have been a two-homer game, but we’re inclined to say Judge homers in two of the three games at Fenway.

3 bold predictions for Knicks-Hawks playoff Game 1

As the New York Knicks prepare to host the Atlanta Hawks in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series at Madison Square Garden, expectations are high for the third-seeded New York team.

After reaching the Eastern Conference Finals last year, the Knicks are hungry for a championship run. With a 2-1 lead in the season series and home-court advantage in their favor, here are three predictions for Saturday’s playoff opener.

Jalen Brunson delivers another 25+ point performance

Jalen Brunson has been nothing short of sensational against Atlanta this season, and that trend will continue in Game 1. The All-Star guard averaged 29.3 points in three regular season meetings, including a stellar 30-point, 13-assist performance in an April 6 win over the Giants.

Brunson’s ability to exploit Atlanta’s perimeter defense while planning an offense makes him unstoppable in high-leverage situations. Expect him to strike early, set the tone at MSG, and finish with at least 27 points and 8 assists.

The playoff spotlight brings out the best in Brunson, and he’ll remind everyone why he’s one of the league’s best performers.

Knicks defense stifles Hawks’ young core

NBA: Charlotte Hornets at New York Knicks
Vincent Carchietta-Imagen Images

The Knicks’ defensive trio of OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart will make life miserable for Atlanta’s offensive threats. Jalen Johnson, who leads the Hawks in points, rebounds and assists, will struggle to find a rhythm against this stifling defense.

New York ranks seventh in defensive rating this season, and their playoff intensity will be on full display. Look for the Knicks to hold Atlanta under 105 points while forcing 13+ turnovers.

Jonathan Kuminga and CJ McCollum may get the momentum, but a collective defensive effort will neutralize the Hawks’ offense. Karl-Anthony Towns will dominate the glass with 12+ rebounds, controlling possessions and limiting second chance opportunities.

Bench provides winning edge

NBA: Charlotte Hornets at New York Knicks
Vincent Carchietta-Imagen Images

While the starters grab the headlines, the Knicks’ bench will be the difference maker in a tough playoff battle. Miles McBride, Landry Shamet and Mitchell Robinson will combine for 25+ points and provide vital energy when the starters are rested.

McBride’s three-point shooting and defensive tenacity would drive momentum in the second quarter, while Robinson’s rim protection would erase mistakes. The depth that coach Mike Brown has developed throughout the season becomes a weapon in the playoffs, and Atlanta doesn’t have the bench firepower to match.

Final prediction: Knicks 112, Hawks 103.

Rumor claims Suns eyeing bold summer trade for 2-time All-Star to pair with Devin Booker

A new rumor suggests the Phoenix Suns will make a summer trade for the talented but troubled two-time All-Star to pair with Devin Booker next season.

The Suns’ season isn’t over yet, and if they can beat the Golden State Warriors in their play-in game tonight they have a chance to secure a playoff spot this month. However, if they are victorious, no one is expecting Phoenix to make a deep run in the postseason. Especially after they lost their first play-in game to the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this week.

No matter what happened Friday night, it was still a positive season for the Suns. Despite firing head coach Mike Budenholzer, trading Kevin Durant, and releasing Bradley Beal in the offseason, the team actually won nine more games under new head coach Jordan Ott. Still, more impactful talent is needed if this team is to take another step forward in 2026-27.

Will the Phoenix Suns pursue a Ja Morant trade this summer?

and morant
sobam im-imagen images

Under the leadership of owner Matt Ishbia, the Suns have shown a willingness to be bold in improving the team. Well, a new rumor suggests they may make a risky move to bring in an extremely talented player this offseason. According to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Phoenix is emerging as the early favorite to make a summer trade for Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant. The other team is believed to be the Sacramento Kings.

The Suns lacked another meaningful player-creator this season. This forced Devin Booker to assume the role of not only their primary scorer, but their top facilitator. Morant will certainly ease the burden of both scoring and playmaking for Booker and could create a dangerous backcourt duo.

However, one comes with potential business risks. Morant’s value is at an all-time low, which is good for the Suns. But this is due to the off-court trouble he can cause and serious injury problems over the past few seasons. Many people associated with the sport felt that due to his injury problems he would never be able to return to the player he was.

4 bold NY Jets trade ideas for the No. 2 pick, including a blockbuster Jammer Chase deal

The only positive side of the New York Jets’ ugly three-win season in 2025 was landing the No. 2 pick in this month’s NFL Draft. Although it’s not the top pick, the team may still get the best player in the 2026 class as the Las Vegas Raiders are expected to take Fernando Mendoza – the best QB in the quarterback class in week one – with the No. 1 pick.

For several weeks, the Jets have been projected to take Texas Tech’s David Bailey or Ohio State star Arvel Reese. However, there is another option, and that is to use their very valuable selection in a trade to accumulate additional picks and fill more needs, or acquire a proven star from a rival team. Especially since he is the second selection in Round 1 (No. 16).

With that in mind, let’s take a look at four bold trades the Jets could make with the No. 2 pick in next week’s NFL Draft.

trade for max crosby

max crosby
Eric Hartline-Imagen Images

One of the biggest surprises this offseason was the Baltimore Ravens’ backtracking on their blockbuster trade for five-time Pro Bowler Max Crosby. That deal would have given the Raiders a pair of first-round draft picks, including the 16th pick the following week.

If Las Vegas still wants to move Crosby, they are unlikely to get two first-down picks after the pass rusher’s medical records are referred to the Ravens’ medical team. However, acquiring the No. 2 pick, as well as the Jets’ additional picks in rounds 2 and 4, and the third in 2027, could trouble the Raiders. This would help Las Vegas get the QB they need in one class and possibly the best player in this year’s class in two.

Traded to Kansas City Chiefs for picks No. 9 and 29

jet
Stephen Lew-Imagen Images

With the current streak of 15 years out of the playoffs and one 3-win year, the Jets need all the elite and affordable prospects they can get. That’s why they could consider a deal where they give up their selection for two first-rounders (Nos. 9 and 29) to the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the pick at nine, they could go after a top cornerback like LSU’s Mansur Delaney or Ohio State stud receiver Carnell Tate. With that fourth and final pick in Round 1, another corner like Colton Hood or QB prospect Ty Simpson could be an option.

Trade for Ja’Marr Chase

ja'marr chase
Katie Stratman-Imagen Images

If Aaron Glenn wants Geno Smith to return to his Pro Bowl form, the more weapons the better. That’s why using their pick at No. 2 and going after an elite weapon like the Cincinnati Bengals’ superstar receiver Jamar Chase should be in play.

The Bengals are a mess and have invested a lot of money in three players on offense. Although they would love to keep Chase, he is the best business asset they can consider transferring. That would give them two top-10 picks and a chance to replace star pass rusher, Trey Hendrickson.

Trade up for picks No. 12 and 20 to the Dallas Cowboys

jet
Kirby Lee-Images Images

The Dallas Cowboys are another first-round team that has a couple of options. Jerry Jones will likely fall by himself to go No. 2 overall. Because of the value, New York could get the likes of Dallas on days 12 and 20, as well as something on the third day of the event.

In such a deal, the Jets could use the second pick at No. 12 to go after a top offensive lineman like Kaidin Proctor or Francis Mauigoa, and at No. 20, they could target receiver Denzel Boston or defensive tackle Peter Woods as a potential replacement for Quinnen Williams.

5 bold predictions for the first round of the NBA playoffs

This week’s focus is on the NBA Play-In Tournament, with matchups that will determine who will face the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded teams in the Western and Eastern Conferences. However, our NBA playoff predictions are focusing on the first round only.

Let’s take a look at some of our early bold predictions for the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Houston Rockets take on Los Angeles Lakers

nba playoff predictions
Troy Taormina-Imagen Images

Any excitement for the first-round playoff series between the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers quickly vanished following injuries to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. With all due respect to the second-best player in NBA history, 41-year-old LeBron James can no longer carry a team. James is the only healthy Lakers player averaging double-digit shots per game this season and we certainly don’t see Deandre Ayton making strides in the playoffs. Additionally, Houston finished the season by winning 10 of its last 14 games, with two of those losses coming by a total of 16 points to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Rockets are better defensively, have more depth, and match up perfectly with this version of the Lakers. LeBron’s tenure in Los Angeles ended in the first round.

Anthony Edwards kills Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets

nba playoff predictions
Troy Taormina-Imagen Images

We look at Anthony Edwards like Patrick Mahomes in the early rounds of the NBA playoffs – it’s not wise to pick against him. The Minnesota Timberwolves superstar has averaged 27.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game over the last three postseasons, shooting 37.2 percent from the perimeter. Although Edwards has a 21-21 career postseason record, Edwards now has an opportunity to defeat the best NBA player of all time in Nikola Jokic. We’re confident Jokic and the Denver Nuggets will take this series, but Edwards’ clutch performance propels Minnesota to give the No. 9 seed a knockout over the No. 3 seed in a winner-take-all Game 7 in Denver.

Dyson Daniels has 30-point game, Knicks pull off gentleman sweep

First Round NBA Playoff Predictions
Dell Janine-Imagen Images

We wanted to make some bold NBA playoff predictions for the first round, so why not a 30-burger for Dyson Daniels? He scored 25-plus points only twice this season and has never had a 30-point game in his career. However, the New York Knicks are going to give him some wide-open threes in this series, and Daniels has shot 36.7 percent from the perimeter in his last 16 games. We’re saying he’s going to have a hot night in Atlanta, hitting three three-pointers for the first time in over a year (April 2, 2025). This would be one of the reasons Atlanta would win a game in this series, with New York sweeping the Gentlemen.

Donovan Mitchell scored 30+ in every game

nba playoff predictions
david richard-imagen images

Most likely, we will see RJ Barrett matched up against Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell. This does not bode well for the Toronto Raptors. Mitchell has averaged 29.6 points per game over the past two postseasons with Cleveland, and he averaged just 23.8 ppg in last year’s first-round series against the Miami Heat. While Toronto has enough talent to take this series to six games, Mitchell will drop over 30 points in every game and obliterate the Raptors like a meteor.

Play-in teams are swept

nba playoff predictions
David Butler II-Imagen Images

We would like to thank all the teams participating in the NBA Play-In Tournament for playing. By the time the first round rolls around, we’ll see just how wide the gap is between the best NBA teams and the teams that are in the playoff race this season. The Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics will all win in the first round, which will be easily decided. It’s more likely that the Detroit Pistons lose a game, but we’re going to bet on Cade Cunningham and company to pull off a clean sweep in Round 1.

Evgeni Malkin Makes Bold Prediction on Alex Ovechkin’s NHL Future

Evgeni Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins face Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Sunday afternoon. With retirement rumors swirling, this could be Ovechkin’s last home game in Washington. However, does Malkin believe the Washington forward will retire from the NHL after the season ends?

The Penguins forward believes Ovechkin will return for the 2026-27 NHL season, the player told reporters. Malkin said Ovechkin will “definitely be back next year” because he is “still hungry.” As of now, the 40-year-old Washington forward plans to make a decision to retire after the season, but his close friend believes he won’t do that just yet.

Ovechkin is the best goal scorer in NHL history, and he is still performing at a high level. The Capitals star has 32 goals, 31 assists and 63 points in his 21st NHL season. While Ovechkin isn’t performing at a 50-goals-per-season level, he still provides much-needed offensive production for Washington.

Since Ovechkin’s contract expires at the conclusion of the 2025–26 NHL season, he will need to sign a new contract with the Capitals if he is to continue playing in the NHL. The end of this season has long been viewed as a potential retirement point for Ovechkin, as his contract expires.

The 40-year-old forward has previously expressed his desire to retire in Russia and potentially play a final season with Dynamo Moscow. If Ovechkin does retire from the NHL, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him play in Russia this year. However, the Capitals would love to have him back in the organization for another campaign.

After all, Ovechkin’s offensive production is hard to replace. Malkin believes Washington won’t have to worry and that Ovechkin will be back for at least one more season.

10 bold predictions in the race to wear the green jacket

The 90th Masters Tournament begins Thursday with first-round action at Augusta National Golf Club.

Just a few miles from the Georgia-South Carolina border and two hours east of Atlanta, the flowers have bloomed, and players are ready to begin their quest to wear the coveted Green Jacket on Sunday.

Only four rounds and 72 regulation holes separate them from winning their first major tournament of 2026. However, the challenges faced by the curriculum are always difficult.

Here are 10 bold predictions for this year’s Masters Tournament.

Current Masters winner falls short

PGA: Masters Tournament - Final Round
michael madrid-imagen images

The defending champion returns to Augusta National. Rory McIlroy won last year’s Masters Tournament in a playoff. However, the defending champions have not performed that well even after 12 months of wearing the green jacket. The last player to win consecutive Masters Tournaments was Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002. McIlroy is also trying to join Woods, Jack Nicklaus (1965-66) and Nick Faldo (1989-90) in successfully defending the Masters title. As a result, McIlroy lost, and Woods’ streak continued for another year as he was the last man to go back-to-back.

Justin Rose records another top 15 Masters finish

PGA: Farmers Insurance Open – Second Round
Abe Arredondo-Imagen Images

Justin Rose, who lost to McIlroy in the playoffs last year, also created history 12 months ago. Rose is one of nine players in Masters Tournament history to finish as runner-up three times, having also done so in 2015 and 2017. However, following his runner-up finish in the following year, he broke into the top 15. Rose ranked T10 in 2016 and T12 in 2018. Rose has shown this year that he can battle on the toughest courses, highlighted by his wire-to-wire victory at the Farmers Insurance Open in January.

PGA Tour star misses the cut

PGA: Tour Championship - Third Round
Brett Davis-Imagen Images

One of the stars of this PGA Tour season so far has been Chris Gotterup, who won twice within the first three weeks. He won the Sony Open in Hawaii and followed that up with a win at TPC Scottsdale for the WM Phoenix Open. Gotterup is also coming off a T6 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open a few weeks ago. The Rutgers alumnus is trying to become the fourth player overall and the first player since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979 to win the Masters in his first start. Ultimately, Augusta National had better success than Gotterup, who is competing in the Masters for the first time. Competing in a special group with Jon Rahm and Ludwig Aberg, Gottrup would miss making the cut.

Bryson DeChambeau repeats 2025 Masters performance

Golf: LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship
aaron doster-image images

Bryson DeChambeau’s difference between wearing a green jacket and losing comes down to his putter. Despite gaining a positive 0.6 strokes throughout the week, it was -2.32 strokes in the final round last year. This was when he was paired with McIlroy on his way to shooting a 3-over 75 to finish T5. He has been victorious in the last two LIV Golf events in South Africa and Singapore. This year, DeChambeau once again missed out on wearing a green jacket.

Scotty Scheffler’s struggle continues

Syndication: Desert Sun
Andy Abeyta/The Desert Sun/USA TODAY Network via Imagen Images

By Scottie Scheffler’s standards, he has struggled recently. He finished T24 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T22 at The Players Championship in his last two starts. With their recent form and some back injuries to McIlroy and Colin McIlroy, it makes this tournament a little more open than it has been in years past. Those struggles of trying to find that success would ultimately challenge the two-time Masters champion.

Matt Fitzpatrick claims record for best Masters finish

PGA: 153rd Open - Final Round
mike frey-images

Matt Fitzpatrick enters this year’s Masters Tournament fresh off a win at the Valspar Championship a few weeks ago. This also comes a week after he lost the lead on the back nine at the Players Championship during the final round. Fitzpatrick’s best performance came 10 years ago when he finished seventh. This is the year the British get it together and claim to be on Sunday.

Cameroon returns to Young Masters competition

Syndication: Florida Times-Union
Corey Perrin/Florida Times-Union/via USA TODAY Network Images

Finishing ahead of Fitzpatrick at The Players Championship was Cameron Young, who birdied the 17th hole to earn his major PGA Tour victory. Young is trying to join Woods and Scheffler as the only players to win the Players and the Masters in the same year. Before missing the cut last year, he had made consecutive top 10 finishes in 2023 and 2024. Young has returned to that form, and missing last year’s cut is an outsider.

JJ Spaun struggles at Augusta

PGA: Travelers Championship - First Round
Bill Streicher-Images

JJ Spawn is coming off a win at the Valero Texas Open in his final tuneup before the Masters this week. The last 13 months have looked very different for Spawn. He was runner-up at the Players last year, won the US Open and competed on the US Ryder Cup team before winning last week. With his win last week, Spawn enters the difficult history of trying to win a Masters Tournament like last week. Only four players have done so, and once in 38 years, the latter being Phil Mickelson two decades ago. As a result, trying to get big win number 2 will be a challenging task.

ALSO READ: Bold predictions for 2026 PGA Tour season, including winning battle vs. LIV Golf

A Masters long shot to win the green jacket

PGA: Masters Tournament - Practice Round
Bill Streicher-Images

It will be a tall order for Jacob Bridgman to win, but he has the metrics that other champions have. At +8600, he would become the first longshot winner since Danny Willett (+6600) in 2016 and Charl Schwartzel (+9000) in 2011. Bridgeman has shown that he can win against the best by winning the Genesis Invitational, a signature event. There are only two golfers on the planet who have played better than Bridgeman statistically: Scheffler and Rahm. Even though this is his first Master, as mentioned before with Gotterup, the Bridgeman is an interesting looker.

My Masters Pick: Xander Schauffele

PGA: Masters Tournament - Practice Round
Katie Goodell-Imagen Images

Two years ago, Xander Schauffele put it all together with two major wins at the PGA Championship and The Open Championship. Not only does he have major championship experience, but he also has history at Augusta National. Over the past 20 years, the average Masters champion was competing in his ninth Masters, which Schauffele is preparing for this week. Schauffele has also entered the top 30 at all 15 majors leading up to the 2022 Masters. He has five top 10s in the last seven years, including runner-up finish in 2019 and T3 in 2021.

Most recently, Schauffele won in Japan in October and came into Augusta with a 3rd at The Players and a T4 at Valspar. As a result, I have DeChambeau edged out Schauffele and Fitzpatrick in the mix for the 2024 PGA Championship.

Ex-Devils coach joins Metro rival in bold coaching shakeup

Former New Jersey Devils head coach Pete DeBoer has once again been assigned behind an NHL bench.

On Easter Sunday, the New York Islanders made the smart move of firing head coach Patrick Roy and replacing him with DeBoer, as the Isles were going through a slump during the regular season, and were struggling to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Islanders are tied for third place in the Metropolitan Division by one point with the Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets. Philly and Columbus have games on the Islanders, which could knock New York out of the playoff picture by the end of the season.

According to multiple sources, DeBoer’s new deal with the Islanders is only through the remainder of the 2025-26 season and not the playoffs. There is a condition attached to his new deal that is yet to be disclosed.

The Islanders noted DeBoer’s success as a head coach in the NHL, citing his success with the San Jose Sharks – qualifying for the Stanley Cup playoffs in four of his five campaigns with the Sharks and helping the team reach their first Stanley Cup Final in franchise history during the 2015–16 season.

He also noted DeBoer’s four seasons in New Jersey, particularly the season he reached the Stanley Cup Finals in his first campaign with the club in 2011–12.

DeBoer also has several deep Stanley Cup playoff appearances, most recently with the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights.

DeBoer ranks 18th in NHL history in coaching wins (662) and 22nd in games coached (1,261), and he has a perfect 9–0 record in Game 7s, the most Game 7 wins in NHL coaching history.

In 2024, the Islanders relieved former coach Lane Lambert during his second season as head coach in New York in favor of Roy in a similarly shrewd move.

Now, the Devils’ opponent will be led by one of the most successful playoff coaches in NHL history, who has yet to claim hockey’s ultimate prize.

Will the Warriors scrap Giannis’ plans, go after Kawhi this summer? Team Insider has a bold idea

A Golden State Warriors insider believes an elite star forward should be a top target for the team this summer. However, now it’s Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

It’s been another disappointing season for the Warriors and their fans. After appearing likely to reach the NBA Finals a year ago, Stephen Curry’s hamstring injury dashed those hopes. However, he entered this season with big aspirations after building chemistry with Jimmy Butler over the summer.

However, Butler tore his ACL in January just when the team finally got on a roll. Due to this once again their title hopes were dashed. Nevertheless, the team made a bold move to try to save those plans by trading for Antetokounmpo in February. Obviously, he did not achieve that goal. But hopefully they can target him again this summer.

However, San Francisco Standard Warriors columnist Tim Kawakami believes there is a more sensible option. Instead of giving up the burden of the draft and player assets for the 10-time All-Star, Kawakami thinks Golden State should target Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard.

A case for the Warriors to target Kawhi Leonard this summer

Warrior
D. Ross Cameron-Imagen Images

Interestingly, they would not land Leonard in a trade, although there are rumors he could be available. Instead, Kawakami wants to see the Warriors sign the seven-time All-Star in free agency. This could be a possibility as rumors continue to swirl that the NBA may soon void his Clippers contract due to the questionable practices LA used to sign him a few years ago.

The Warriors insider detailed a two-pronged plan to add the 34-year-old, who is having a great season. First, the team will need to come under the first salary tax threshold. He noted that the team had six players signed for next season, including Butler and Moses Moody, who would not be available until the second half of the season.

They will then “attempt to sign both Draymond Green (to replace his $27.7 million player option) and Kristaps Porzingis to moderate two-year deals, probably both around two years, $40 million.” This would give the franchise “approximately $184 million in total commitments for eight players”. Then add $6 million for a player taken in Round 1 of the NBA Draft – that pick will likely be around No. 11. Taking them to $194 million, which is $11 million under the tax threshold.

The second part of the plan will try to convince Leonard to join the team on the $15 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception. He admits it’s not a guarantee, but adding a high-impact player with championship potential when fully healthy is the best option.

It’s a plan that will require a bit of luck, but the chance to get on the Warriors roster and a stud prospect in the lottery may appeal to Leonard if he wants to stay in California and pursue another championship. Additionally, popular NBA expert Bill Simmons recently outlined several reasons why an Antetokounmpo trade would be a bad idea for the Warriors.

The Cincinnati Reds are predicted to make a bold trade for the 2-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner

A top MLB insider believes the Cincinnati Reds will make a bold trade for one of the best two-way players available on the trade market this offseason.

After more progress in 2025 and a return to the postseason for the first time in five years, there are high expectations for Reds Nation heading into the new MLB campaign. They have a good young core led by Eli De La Cruz, and in the offseason, the front office added Eugenio Suárez to add more strength to the lineup and signed Emilio Pagan as their new closer.

With the Milwaukee Brewers potentially taking a step back this season, Reds fans are hoping their team can make an incredible run to the National League Central title this summer. To do that, Cincinnati will likely need to add more talent before this year’s MLB trade deadline. And The Athletic’s Jim Bowden expects a major trade move by the club this summer.

Cincinnati Reds predicted to trade Byron Buxton

Red
Jonah Heinebaugh/Naples Daily News/USA TODAY Network-Florida/via USA TODAY Network Images

“Minnesota Twins star Byron Buxton has waived his no-trade clause and is traded to the Reds at the deadline with two and a half years of control remaining on his contract,” Bowden wrote in a new prediction article ahead of MLB Opening Day 2026.

The two-time All-Star and one-time Gold Glove winner would be a great addition for the Reds. In 2025, he had a big year as he set career highs in home runs (35), runs scored (97), and RBI (83), while adding 25 stolen bases. Furthermore, he is viewed as one of the best defensive midfielders in the American League.

The fact that Bowden believes the 11-year veteran will waive his no-trade clause for Cincinnati reflects the club’s improved profile around the game. While a trade would be expensive, Buxton is just not an on-field fit for the Reds. He is also playing on a reasonable contract. He’s making just $15.2 million annually over the next three seasons.

Valdez was Detroit’s biggest addition in free agency, and it will pay off with a speculative season. Valdez would have a sub-3.00 ERA and finish in the top 5 for AL Cy Young Award voting. After a disappointing 2025 MLB campaign, the former Houston Astros ace is set to come to Detroit. Even though Valdez is behind Skubal in the rotation, he will post No. 1 starting pitcher numbers.

Skubal will be joining a very prestigious list in 2026. The Tigers ace would go on to win the 2026 AL Cy Young Award in spectacular fashion, becoming the first AL pitcher to win the award in three consecutive seasons. Skubal would join Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson as the only MLB pitchers to win three consecutive Cy Young Awards.

Detroit will make the 2026 World Series; However, it won’t end with a trophy. Despite a strong performance from the rotation, the Tigers would lose to the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games. Outside of McGonigle and Green, the Tigers’ offense will not live up to expectations, leading to major changes during the 2026 MLB offseason.

Kendrick Perkins suggests bold change after Cade Cunningham injury

The Detroit Pistons are entering a crucial period without Cade Cunningham, and Kendrick Perkins believes his collapsed lung injury could reshape the team’s trajectory moving forward. Detroit earned its 50th win of the season, its first since 2007–08, but the sudden loss of its All-Star guard changed everything. With momentum building, the focus has now shifted from celebration to survival. How do the pistons react when the engine dies?

Kendrick Perkins gives a bold answer on Road Trippin’. He did not suggest any simple replacement. Instead, he pointed to a change in the system for the Pistons.

“JB, I’m talking to you, your guy. If I were you right now, I would go and study when Miami gets to the Finals and I would expand our offense even more through Duncan Robinson. It doesn’t mean he’s getting touches, but my offensive sets will be designed around him. Chaos, back picks and all that stuff will be created.”

It’s not about quantity. It’s about gravity. Agitation. Pressure.

A different type of center point for the piston

This idea may seem unusual, but it has weight. Duncan Robinson’s figures support this. This season, he is averaging 11.8 points while shooting 40 percent from three. In previous playoff runs, he hovered around similar production, but kept defense every possession. That constant motion created space. It unlocked everything else.

Detroit could follow that blueprint.

As Cade Cunningham continues to battle his injury, the Pistons’ offense is at risk of becoming stagnant. Very predictable. Very slow. But a motion-based system built around shooters and off-ball action could breathe life into the mix. This may force the defense to react rather than give instructions.

The Pistons have already proven they can win. Fifty wins say this clearly. Still this moment feels different. Big. Margins for error reduced.

So now the focus turns to Bickerstaff. Adjust or pause. Favor or fade.

Because if this team wants to move forward without its star, it will have to embrace chaos, and rely on an entirely new path forward. What happens next could define this entire season.

Bill Simmons makes bold Wembanyama claim after watching entire season

Bill Simmons has watched every superstar in the league this year, but one name stands out above the rest in his mind. While Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is gunning for the MVP trophy, Simmons is planting his flag for Victor Wembanyama as the true best player on the planet right now. On a recent episode of his podcast, the veteran analyst expressed his amazement at the sheer defensive intensity the San Antonio Spurs center provides every night.

“I can’t believe how good Wemby is. How hard he plays, and what an impact he makes on both ends of the floor, especially on defense.” Simmons said, “We were just counting all the shots he changes, changes, or changes the guy’s mind, and it was about 30. He never gives up, he keeps playing hard the whole time. And he has an impact on the game. I thought it was the most impressive thing I’ve seen.”

That defensive motor is a primary reason why the San Antonio Spurs currently sit at 51-18, reaching the 50-win mark for the first time since the 2016-17 season. They currently trail only the Thunder in the high-stakes Western Conference race as the playoffs approach.

The seven-foot-four phenom’s efficiency was on full display during Tuesday night’s emphatic 132-104 win over the Sacramento Kings. Wembanyama didn’t need to break a sweat, finishing with 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists in just 22 minutes of action. He hit 7 of 14 shots from the floor and knocked down two triples before being quickly benched.

Simmons acknowledged Gilgeous-Alexander is hovering in the rarefied air of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. However, he still stressed that the impact Vembanyama has had on both ends of the floor represents the most impressive thing he has seen all season. The big man’s ability to control the game without the need for high-volume scoring is what really sets him apart. As the postseason approaches, the debate over best player vs. most valuable player will only intensify.

NHL Insider reveals Edmonton Oilers’ bold goalie trade plan for 2026

The Edmonton Oilers are one of the bigger teams to keep an eye on at the NHL trade deadline. As of Tuesday, March 3, Edmonton holds the final wild card spot. However, the lack of production from its goalkeepers is a major problem. So, what’s the latest on the Oilers’ trade plans for the goalie over the next few days?

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman believes Edmonton has accomplished its goal, as explained on the 32 Thoughts Podcast. One of the Oilers’ main goaltenders, Connor Ingram, has a .894 save percentage and recently allowed five goals against the San Jose Sharks. Meanwhile, Tristan Jarry has a .863 save percentage since arriving in Edmonton.

Jerry spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Penguins before being traded for goaltender Stuart Skinner. Over the past four games, the Edmonton goalkeeper has had 18 goals and not conceded two of them. Needless to say, this has been a major weakness for the Oilers during the 2025-26 NHL season.

There are several goaltenders available, such as the Florida Panthers’ Sergei Bobrovsky, but Edmonton seems content with filling other needs such as defence. On Monday, the Oilers acquired defenseman Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2028 second-round pick. Better defense can help score better goals.

While acquiring a better goaltender should be Edmonton’s top priority, that doesn’t seem to be the case heading into Friday’s trade deadline. The Oilers are likely working with Ingram and Jarry, while Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are expected to provide more help moving forward.

Alexis McAllister predicts summer – Liverpool player makes bold claims

alexis mac allister
alexis mac allister

Liverpool midfielder Alexis McAllister has admitted that he currently considers Spain ahead of Argentina, just weeks before the finals and the next World Cup.

talking to terms and conditions In Argentina, the 27-year-old was asked about the clash with Spain at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar on March 27. The match will pit the Copa America winners against the reigning European champions.

Despite Argentina being the reigning world champions, Liverpool players have not shied away from praising their opponents. “Today, I see Spain above us,” McAllister said while assessing the balance of power.

Spain come in as Euro winners and are in strong form, according to the midfielder. In his view, this makes them serious contenders not only for the Finalsima but also for the World Cup.

Liverpool player chose Spain and France as his favorite

McAllister went even further when discussing the broader international picture. He placed Spain and France at the top of the global hierarchy, while supporting Argentina to compete at the highest level.

“I think Spain and France are the two best teams and we are there too.” he explained.

France, under Kylian Mbappe, continues to pose a threat in major tournaments. Meanwhile, Spain’s recent resurgence under Luis de la Fuente has strengthened his credentials.

Focusing specifically on the Finalsima, the Liverpool midfielder predicted a tough competition.

“They have very good players, they are in a very good moment, and the finalsima will be complex. We believe and we will move forward,” He added.

Key to club and country

alexis mac allister
FRANKFURT AM MAIN, GERMANY – OCTOBER 22: Alexis McAllister of Liverpool FC during the UEFA Champions League match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Liverpool

For Liverpool, McAllister’s comments underline the level at which their midfielder is operating. He is not only a key figure at Anfield but also central to Argentina’s plans at major tournaments.

However, the March international break would once again see him travel long distances before returning to club duties. With the Premier League typically being an intense race, Arne Slott will be hoping his player comes back sharp and injury free.

Additionally, McAllister’s calm and analytical tone reflects the mentality that Liverpool fans have come to appreciate. There is no complacency despite Argentina being world champions. Instead, there is clarity and competitive edge.

If Spain and France are indeed the benchmark, the Liverpool midfielder is putting himself – and his country – right in the middle of the conversation among the global elite.

Jackson Smith-Njigba serves Seahawks notice with bold demand for next contract

Seattle Seahawks superstar Jackson Smith-Njigba revealed this week that he is not thinking about his next contract. But when it comes time to talk about it, his goal is to set a new NFL record.

After using their first-round pick in 2023 on an Ohio State receiver, Smith-Njigba is everything the Seahawks could have hoped for and more. After waiting in line behind team greats DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett during his rookie season, he made an immediate impact in his sophomore season.

In 2024, the pass catcher posted 100 catches for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns. Maintaining that level of play in the coming years would have made him the 20th overall pick three years ago. However, last season, he showed that he has the talent to dominate like an elite receiver.

In 2025, Jackson Smith-Njigba led the NFL with just under 1,800 yards, was third in touchdowns (10), and fourth in catches (119). Last season, Jayson emerged as one of the best wide receivers in the league. And it seems he wants to be paid the same when his current contract expires after the 2027 season.

Jackson Smith-Njigba wants record deal from Seahawks in next contract

“I’m not really under too much pressure to get right now [a new contract] It’s done,” Smith-Njigba told WFAA in Dallas on Friday. [h/t ESPN]. “I know my time is coming, and when we get through it, it will be great. God’s timing is perfect, so whenever that time comes, we will be ready for it.

“I believe I deserve the highest salary in my position. I give everything I have to the game and the community, and I think it’s worth much more.”

Heading into the 2026 campaign, Cincinnati Bengals superstar Jamar Chase is currently the highest-paid WR, as he signed a four-year deal worth $161 million last year. The deal pays him a little more than $40 million annually. However, this deal was also signed after the receivers post the Triple Crown in 2024.

If Jackson Smith-Njigba can reach that level next season, receiving more than $40 million per season may be necessary. But if he doesn’t, it will put the Seahawks in a difficult position as they may not have won the Super Bowl without JSn earlier this month.

NY Mets’ McLean named No. 1 rookie in MLB, insider offers big and bold projection for 2026

A new ranking of rookies poised for a big season in 2026 announced that New York Mets prospect Nolan MacLean is the best in baseball, and he could be the club’s top player by the playoffs.

McLean only made eight starts in 2025, but he took New York and the baseball world as a whole by storm. The third-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft went 5-1, posted a 2.06 ERA, and struck out 57 batters in just 48 innings. He was impressive and his stuff was electric.

The 24-year-old gave NY Mets fans hope that they may have another homegrown ace on their hands. However, it would not be surprising if McLean regressed during his first full season in the big leagues, as opposing teams get more tape on him and can develop better game plans to expose and attack any of his weaknesses.

Still, The Athletic’s Jim Bowden doesn’t see that happening, and he’s a big believer in the NY Mets rookie’s talent.

Will Nolan McLean be the NY Mets Game 1 starter in the playoffs?

mets

“His breaking pitches are devastating offerings, and his aggressiveness in early counts reflects his competitiveness, confidence and poise. He’s a good athlete who was a two-way player in college and early in his professional career. His potential and potential are very high,” Bowden wrote after ranking McLean No. 1 on his list of rookies poised for a big season in 2026.

The former MLB general manager greatly praised Nolan MacLean’s skill set. However, he offered a bold piece of praise that will surely surprise many NY Mets and baseball fans.

Bowden declared, “I wouldn’t be surprised if, after the season, he’s the Mets’ Game 1 starter, with Freddy Peralta behind him. That’s how much I love his potential.”

If Freddy Peralta is as good as he was in 2025, and Nolan McLean proves he deserves to be their Game 1 starter to begin the postseason, New York will be a serious threat to reach the World Series this fall.

Bold NFL Offseason Predictions for the 6 Top OLs in NFL Free Agency Land

NFL free agency is right around the corner, and there are some high-level skill players available on both sides of the ball this offseason. However, winning in the trenches is more important than ever; That’s why some of the best offensive linemen in NFL free agency will receive lucrative contracts this offseason.

Let’s take a look at our NFL offseason predictions to see where the top offensive linemen land in NFL free agency.

Rasheed Walker, OT: Pittsburgh Steelers

nfl offseason predictions
Jeff Hanisch-Imagen Images

It seems like the possibility of Aaron Rodgers returning as the Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback in 2026 is increasing. If that happens, the club would be wise to upgrade at left tackle. Things never worked out well with Broderick Jones, so we can’t count on the Steelers to bring someone in and develop him. Instead, they could go after the best offensive tackle in NFL free agency. Rasheed Walker is somewhat like Dan Moore Jr., although perhaps better in pass protection. Acquiring him would cost over $20 million in AAV, but the Steelers have enough cap space to make it happen. Also, he may remain fit for a long time as he has just turned 26.

Braden Smith: Los Angeles Rams

Barry Rieger-Imagen Images

The Los Angeles Rams certainly have the option to use one of their first-round selections on an offensive tackle to replace Rob Havenstein. However, going after a sure thing for a Super Bowl contender is a much safer bet. Braden Smith is an above-average starter at right tackle, providing stability in both pass protection and run blocking. Durability is their biggest issue, but the Rams do have a backup plan, as Warren McClendon Jr. proved he could hold his own as a fill-in starter last season.

Isaac Seumalo, IOL: Las Vegas Raiders

nfl offseason predictions
Eric Hartline-Imagen Images

The Las Vegas Raiders will definitely spend money in NFL free agency; It’s just a question of which offensive lineman they go after. Guard Isaac Seumalo not only brings the playing style and mentality that new head coach Clint Kubiak likely wants in the trenches, but he also provides something else that Las Vegas needs. Seumalo finished last season with the third-highest ESPN pass-block win rate (97 percent) in the NFL; The veteran is exactly who the Raiders should put at left tackle to protect Fernando Mendoza.

David Edwards, IOL: Houston Texans

NFL offseason predictions, NFL free agency
Robert Deutsch/USA TODAY Network via Imagine Images

The Houston Texans need to do a lot more this offseason to protect CJ Stroud. It would also help if the front office invested more in improving the ground game. The signing of David Edwards helps on both counts. Edwards ranked 10th among interior linemen in ESPN run-block win rate (75 percent) in 2025, and he allowed only one quarterback hit while earning the 14th-best PFF pass-blocking grade among guards. This is the type of investment that is desperately needed in Houston, and it would be a huge step towards a more consistent and well-developed offense in 2026 and beyond.

Connor McGovern, C: Los Angeles Chargers

NFL offseason predictions, NFL free agency
Melina Myers-Imagen Images

The Los Angeles Chargers could get a quality starting guard in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Unfortunately for the club, this year’s prospect pool is worryingly low at center back. This leaves NFL free agency as the best way to upgrade at the position. They would have to beat the Buffalo Bills to land Connor McGovern, as he ranked third among all centers in ESPN pass-block win rate (97 percent) last season. it is worth it. Moving from Bradley Bozeman to McGovern would be a huge upgrade for the interior Chargers offensive line and would do wonders to help Justin Herbert and Mike McDaniel.

Tyler Linderbaum, C: Baltimore Ravens

NFL offseason predictions, NFL free agency
Mark Konezny-Imagen Images

The Baltimore Ravens will not use the franchise tag to prevent Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum from reaching NFL free agency. However, we can’t imagine the club losing him on the open market. Baltimore already had a bottom-10 offensive line in 2025, with the interior being the biggest reason for the unit’s struggles. Losing Linderbaum will put Lamar Jackson under even more pressure in worse circumstances next season. Baltimore may not like the price they paid to re-sign Linderbaum, but it’s worth it; This is why interior offensive linemen of his caliber rarely leave the team that drafted them when they are entering the prime of their careers.
