The former All-NBA honoree assisted two-way forward Leakey Black, third-year guard Bilal Quibly, rookie guard Trey Johnson (twice), and second-year guard Bub Carrington on long-range buckets. Overall, he was responsible for 29 points.

At the same time, the Wizards still lost to the Jazz, who were without starters such as forward Lauri Markkanen (hip), forward Jaren Jackson Jr. (knee), and guard Keyonte George (ankle). This gives them more relief to tank in the standings, as they have the fourth-worst record (16-46) while Utah is fifth-worst (19-44). Washington would have to finish with a bottom-four record this summer to be guaranteed to retain their top-eight protected lottery selection.

Plus, the team is now just one game ahead of the Brooklyn Nets and Indiana Pacers, who are tied for second-worst. Finishing second worst would guarantee selection in the top six, while finishing third worst would guarantee selection in the top seven, and so on.

JuJu Reese makes the most of Wizards’ opportunities

With Davis out since the beginning of January, Washington did not have much depth after sending Marvin Bagley to the Dallas Mavericks in the Davis deal on February 4. Sir has not played since a 132-101 loss to the Miami Heat on Feb. 8, and backup seven-footer Tristan Vukcevic (thigh) has not played since a 134-125 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Saturday.

Enter Reese. The Wizards signed the Baltimore native to a two-way contract on Saturday and thrust him into the starting center role for Monday’s 123-118 home loss to the Houston Rockets, his NBA debut. He started again in a 126-109 loss to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday and had 18 points (5-7 FG), 20 rebounds (10 offensive), two assists and a block in 38 minutes on Thursday. His rebounds were the most by any rookie this season and the most by any Washington rookie since Tom Gugliotta (20) against the Philadelphia 76ers on January 29, 1993. Additionally, her sister Angel Reese was the youngest WNBA player to record more than 18 points and more than 10 offensive rebounds in a game last season, and she is the youngest NBA player to do so this season.

Since general manager Will Dawkins and president Michael Winger took over in 2023, Washington’s development program has built a foundation of young talent led by Sarr, second-year wing Kishawn George (UCL), Johnson, Coulibaly and Carrington. Reese will need more than one historic game against another tanking team to be a part of that long-term group, but if he continues to perform like this he’ll give the front office something to think about.

Next up for the Wizards is a road date with the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night.

Brian Windhorst pointed to a strategic approach the Golden State Warriors could use during Stephen Curry’s injury recovery.

Curry has been sidelined since his last game appearance on January 30 and has missed the entire month of February. He has missed 11 consecutive games and is nursing a knee injury, forcing Golden State to be cautious with his recovery.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst provided insight on the team’s situation with its superstar guard on The Hoop Collective show. He explained how the Warriors are looking at their position in the playoff picture and deciding whether it’s best to bring Curry back or shut him down for the remainder of the season.

“You know right away there were people who were thinking, like, they’re considering shutting him down for the season. I don’t think they’re doing that. I think they’re evaluating where they are in the standings and evaluating where Steph is and trying to play their strategy here. But it’s obviously a significant development that Steph is going to be out for a few more weeks,” Windhorst said at the 29:49 mark.

The Warriors remain strong in the playoff picture despite the absence of Stephen Curry, defeating the Houston Rockets 115–113 in overtime.

Six players scored in double figures for Golden State in the win. Brandin Podziemski led the way with a stat line of 26 points and nine rebounds on 10 of 18 shooting from the field, including 4 of 8 from beyond the arc. De’Anthony Melton finished second with 23 points and six rebounds, Al Horford had 17 points and six rebounds, Gui Santos added 14 points and six assists, while LJ Cryer provided 12 points and three rebounds. Meanwhile, Draymond Green contributed 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Golden State improved to a 32–30 record on the season and finished eighth in the Western Conference standings. They are above the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers, while trailing the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers.

The Warriors will remain on the road and await their next matchup. They will face the Oklahoma City Thunder as tip-off takes place on March 7 at 8:30 PM ET.

Koulibaly scored a season-high 23 points in the Wizards’ 123–118 win against the Rockets. He is averaging 10.4 points on 41.3% shooting, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists this season.

On Tuesday evening, the Los Angeles Lakers suffered their second consecutive loss with a close home loss to the Orlando Magic. The Lakers had a chance to win it late, but Luka Doncic missed his dribble and was forced to pass to LeBron James, whose turnaround heave from beyond the arc hit the backboard and the rim.

Much has been said about the Lakers’ perceived roster shortcomings in recent weeks, and now, ESPN NBA analyst Brian Windhorst has added more fuel to the discussion.

“When Luca [Doncic]lebron [James]and Austin Reeves play together, they’re not a good team… when it’s appropriate [Austin & Luka] The Lakers are an excellent team out there,” Windhorst said on First Take, according to X, formerly of NBA Courtside on Twitter.

In fact, James, Doncic and Reeves in many ways have skills that cancel each other out, none of them are good defenders and they all need the ball to perform at their best offensively.

Many have floated the idea that the Lakers will either let James walk or bring him back on a more team-friendly deal this offseason in order to build a more viable roster around Doncic, similar to the Dallas Mavericks team that made the Finals in 2024 before the team inexplicably traded him to Los Angeles.

Doncic and Reeves have created a lethal one-two punch in games played together without James, but when all three are in the lineup, none of them have been able to be their full producers on offense, and the team’s defense has faltered.

Yet, despite this, the Lakers are 11 games above the .500 mark at 34-23, and are not out of position to secure home court advantage in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

The Lakers next play on the road against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday evening.

But while the new “USA vs. World” tournament format actually made the game competitive, Silver’s push for high-tech integration dominated the conversation off the court.

During the broadcast, Silver called AI “the most significant change” in sports presentation in his lifetime, speaking of “hyper-personalized” telecasts that could change the way fans watch sports.

However, Brian Windhorst isn’t exactly buying a ticket to the metaverse. On a recent episode of The Hoop Collective, the veteran reporter mocked the absurdity of the NBA’s obsession with AI.

“Why ban broadcasters? Why not AI commissioners? Why not AI referees? Why not AI coaches? Why not AI players?”. Windhorst asked with heavy sarcasm. “Why isn’t the whole thing just one giant simulation?”

Windhorst’s point hits home because the magic of this year’s All-Star Game was entirely human. No algorithm could have predicted that USA Stripes’ Kawhi Leonard would go completely nuclear in front of his home crowd. Leonard dropped 31 points in 12 minutes of round-robin play, shooting 6-7 from deep to eliminate Victor Wembanyama and Team World.

The human drama continued in the finals, where Anthony Edwards captured the MVP trophy. Edwards led the young USA Stars to an emphatic 47–21 victory over the experienced Stripes, totaling 32 points in the entire tournament. Even “Wemby” brought the intensity, leading the World Team with 33 combined points and eight rebounds, proving that fans still crave the unpredictable energy of a living, breathing superstar.

Silver may want to personalize the broadcasts, but as Windhorst pointed out, if the league leans too much into the “simulation” aspect, it risks losing its soul.

After the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, it was Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards who walked away with the MVP trophy. Edwards helped lead Team Stars to a 47–21 win against Team Stripes in the final game of the new round-robin tournament format. This season, Edwards has played just over 35 minutes per game in 46 games. His career averages have been 29.3 points and 5.2 rebounds. Averaged 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals, shooting 49.3 percent from the field, 40.2 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 79.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
