Sam Buchema joined Napoli from Bologna in the summer transfer window. Tottenham Hotspur have now emerged as a possible destination for the Dutchman.
The centre-back was instrumental in Bologna’s rise to European football under Thiago Motta and Vincenzo Italiano. His move to Naples came amidst much publicity, he also played in the Champions League for the Rossoblu.
Things have been a bit indifferent at Napoli, with Buukema having played 18 times in Serie A. He has started the last two Serie A games, performing quite well but Antonio Conte has not always seen him as a regular in the backline.
The idea of his exit from the Italian champions has been strengthened, with Tottenham mentioned as a destination.
Swap deal related to Christian Romero
Journalist Emmanuel Cammarotto reports napoli magazine There is talk of a deal with Napoli for the summer, which reflects their interest in Spurs’ Cristian Romero.
The Argentine is a big dream for Conte, who is interested in parting ways with Sam Buchema and Juan Jesus. There is a belief the Dutchman ‘could end up in London’, with Tottenham interested in him.
The idea of a swap plus cash deal has been introduced by the journalist. Bukema is valued At €25 million, Romero is valued at much more than that. The Partenopei will have to inject cash into a deal to bring the former Atalanta player to Naples.
It would be a complicated move but there is a possibility that Buukema could be the only one involved in a move that would take him to the English capital. Romero’s idea of Napoli is attractive, however, the reality may see him look beyond them.
Our opinion: Buukema could be a smart move for Tottenham
While things haven’t always gone to plan for Sam Beukema at Napoli, Spurs could be a viable destination for him.
There is ample evidence of its quality. At Bologna, he was very reliable on the ball in a system where his team often dominated ball possession. The Netherlands man is also very good at taking it forward and using his physical qualities to win the ball back.
At 27, he is at the peak of his powers and needs a club where he can play regularly.
