Washington Capitals stars Tom Wilson, Logan Thompson and Martin Fehrvary will all have a chance to win a medal. It came after both Canada and Slovakia won their Olympic quarterfinal matches on Wednesday.
Canada’s game was absolutely thrilling, as they defeated Czechia 4–3 in overtime. The Canadiens trailed 3–2 until Nick Suzuki equalized, and Mitch Marner scored the OT game-winner.
Wilson received two penalty minutes in the win and currently has three points in four games, along with multiple hits. Thompson was the backup goaltender behind Jordan Binnington, allowing three goals. The 28-year-old Capitals netminder has started one game for Canada, coming away with a win and a .960 save percentage.
Meanwhile, Fehrváry recorded his first Olympic point (an assist) in Slovakia’s 6–2 win over Germany. The 26-year-old defenseman recorded a secondary assist on the team’s first goal, scored by Pavol Regenda.
Fehrváry led Slovakia in ice time on Wednesday with 22:01. He is the country’s leader in TOI as part of the top shutout pair so far through the tournament.
For now, Canada and Slovakia will wait to see who they play in the semi-finals. The last two quarterfinal matches of the day are Finland-Switzerland and USA-Sweden.
