Before he became “The American Dream,” he was just Virgil Riley Runnels Jr., a Texas-born athlete who was lighting up the football field and baseball diamond. However, once Dusty Rhodes got to pro wrestling, it was game over for him in every locker room he went into. He dominated territories such as the NWA and Jim Crockett Promotions and made headlines in the ’70s and early ’80s with his signature charisma and blue-collar swagger.

By the late 80’s, he broke into WWE and began shaking hands with legends like Ted DiBiase and Randy Savage. The WWE Championship eluded him, but Dusty didn’t need a title shot to prove his toughness. And when his in-ring days were over, he evolved into guiding the next generation in wrestling.

Behind the scenes, he became a master guru, and shaped the next generation – including his own son, Cody Rhodes – into top-tier superstars. Dusty Rhodes gave his final performance in 2015 at the age of 69.

Who is Cody Rhodes mother?

Born on October 6, 1962, in El Paso, Texas, Michelle Rubio is the mother of Cody Rhodes. She was a dancer in the group The Devil’s Angels and performed in various nightclubs before meeting Dusty while working as a gym receptionist.

They married in 1978. Michelle has been widowed since Dusty’s death in 2015. They have three children: Cody Rhodes, Dustin Rhodes, and a daughter, Teal Runnels.

How many brothers and sisters does Cody Rhodes have?

Chet Holmgren avoids discussion of ‘dangerous’ dynasty politics

The Oklahoma City Thunder have become the envy of the league. They have such a deep core, led by arguably the best player in the NBA in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and their core trio of Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams are at their peak. In fact, Holmgren and Williams, aged 23 and 24 respectively, have not even entered yet and yet have already won a title – which is more than many of the young and promising teams they have achieved.

When a young team becomes so elite so quickly, it’s hard to avoid the topic of whether or not they can develop into a dynasty – a team that runs the NBA for years. But Holmgren can’t get ahead of himself, because he knows the realities of the NBA make it hard to imagine anything happening.

“I think it’s a dangerous thing to try to think about because of how delicate things are in the NBA. We see it all the time. How quickly things can change, and nothing is guaranteed. So you really have to focus on each individual day,” Holmgren said in an appearance at The Arena.

“It’s one thing to bring things into existence, it’s another to distract yourself. So I think I’ll avoid distracting myself.”

That’s the healthiest mindset of any NBA champion, and it’s one of the many reasons the Thunder are favored to win the Larry O’Brien Trophy once again in June.

The reality of the new CBA is that teams cannot retain their talented core for long, as winning teams become expensive very quickly. Next season, Holmgren and Williams are going to be on max contracts, pushing the Thunder so deep into the waters of the second apron.

Be that as it may, OKC has plenty of first-round picks to replenish the roster once they need to cut down their payroll, and they’re primed to win for the next few years.

Pat Riley regrets missing ‘dynasty’ with LeBron James in Miami

On the same night that the Los Angeles Lakers honored Pat Riley with a statue for his time with the franchise, they recalled LeBron James’ days with the Miami Heat. Hall of Fame center Chris Bosh expressed his displeasure over James’ departure. Maybe Riley did the same, still wondering what if? LeBron, Bosh and Dwyane Wade won two championships in four seasons before LeBron signed with the Cleveland Cavs in 2014.

According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, Riley believes James could lead the Heat to a third title.

Riley, 80, said when asked what James’ four-year tenure with the Heat meant to him during a press conference in Los Angeles on Sunday, “I thought with the Big 3 – Dwayne, Chris Bosh and especially LeBron – we finally put together what I thought could be a dynasty.”

“It was. Four consecutive trips to the finals, two world championships. It was an incredible run. And as a coach and someone who really thought about building that special team and built it, I saw something that could last for eight to 10 years.”

Nevertheless, Riley understood James’ decision to return to Cleveland, which ultimately led to the Cavs winning their first championship in franchise history.

“I get it,” Riley said of James’ decision to leave the Heat, adding that she now feels at peace with the way things are going 12 years after James’ departure. “Business in the NBA is business in the NBA. Players have opportunities to go elsewhere; he went to Cleveland and won a title there. So I wish him all the best.

“But I’m going to be selfish here and say I wish I had him for the next six or eight years. It would have been great. But we’ll never know, right?”

James will win his fourth title in 2020 and his first with the Lakers.

All-Star LeBron James honored Heat president Pat Riley, who led the Lakers to four championships from 1982 to 1988 as head coach. From his front-office position, Riley, who led the 2006 champion Heat to a title as coach, wanted James to lead his team to at least three championships.

James discussed his time with the Heat when a reporter relayed Riley’s comments, as noted by the Miami Herald.

Asked about Riley’s comments, James told reporters in Los Angeles on Sunday, “I never said I’d go there for four years and decide to go somewhere else.” “That’s the way the cards were played. But, yes, it’s human nature to look back and say what could have been. But that’s part of life. I thought the four years we had, obviously, were great.

“We managed to win two championships, unfortunately we lost two of them. But a lot of good memories, a lot of good times there. It will be interesting to see what could have been.”

The Lakers lost to the Celtics 111-89 on Sunday.
