Stephen A. Smith calls Spurs’ Vembanayama ‘very intentional’ elbow after ejection vs. timberwolves

on sunday evening San Antonio Spurs lost the fourth game of their second round playoff series against minnesota timberwolvesLeaving things tied at 2-2 for Game 5, heading home.

However, the big story of the game was Victor Wembanyama, who was ejected in the second quarter after taking a serious elbow to the neck of Minnesota’s Naz Reed, resulting in two flagrant fouls.

Now, ESPN sports personality Stephen A. Smith reflected on the incident on his social media page amid the ongoing debate over whether Wambanyama should be suspended for Tuesday’s decisive Game 5.

Smith wrote on Sunday

But Stephen A. Smith also said that although he did not support Wembey’s conduct on the floor in Game 4, he did not want the centre-forward to be given a suspension as a result.

“But I’m praying he doesn’t get suspended for the game [5]Which is very possible. We don’t want a series of decisions. But we will see.”

Dirty elbow from Victor Vembanyama This was quite a shock to Reid, especially given the Spurs star’s usual gentle demeanor on the court.

There is also precedent for suspensions with previous such incidents in NBA history, with many fans pointing to Ron Artest’s elbow to James Harden’s head more than a decade ago. This resulted in the then-Los Angeles Lakers forward being suspended for seven games.

But the NBA would like nothing more than to have Victor Wembanyama, who they have touted as their future and possibly the current face of the league, on the court for the crucial Game 5 of this playoff series. However, it remains to be seen whether their desire to maintain the integrity of the game as an organization will ultimately prevail over them.

However, the league is expected to make an official decision on a possible Wembanyama suspension later in the day on Monday.

Tarik Skubal needs elbow surgery: When will he return?

Tarik Skubal needs elbow surgery. Detroit Tigers manager AJ Hinch announced before Monday’s game against the Boston Red Sox that Skuble has been ruled out of his upcoming start and placed on the injured list. The back-to-back Cy Young Award winner will undergo surgery to remove a loose body in his left elbow.

Skubal appeared to be in danger of injury after moving his left hand, removing his glove, and rubbing his left elbow in the seventh inning of his last start. Skubal remained in the game and looked to be in good position to make his next start. Now, the Tigers’ starting pitcher needs surgery.

When will Tarik Skubal return to Detroit Tigers after surgery?

It’s a devastating blow for Detroit, which has faced injuries to begin the 2026 MLB season. Now, Skubal, who was one of the favorites to win the 2026 American League Cy Young Award, is joining the injured list. So, when will Skubal return to the Tigers after his elbow surgery?

As ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported, these procedures typically sideline pitchers for two to three months. Therefore, Skubal will return in July or early August, giving him time before the 2026 MLB postseason. This shouldn’t rule Skubal out for the remainder of the 2026 MLB season, but it will end his bid for a third Cy Young Award.

Now, Framber Valdez will be the Tigers’ ace in the summer. The Detroit pitching staff has been affected by injuries, and signing Valdez in the winter proves to be one of the best moves the organization has made now. This also has another impact on Scoble, who is set to become a free agent after the 2026 MLB season.

Skubal has suffered elbow injuries in the past, including Tommy John surgery in 2017 and flexor tendon surgery in 2022. The 29-year-old starting pitcher is set to earn one of the largest pitching contracts in MLB history, and this may have a slight impact on those plans.

For now, Skubal will focus on recovering from his injury, and the Tigers hope to keep the ship turning without him.

Kelly Oubre Jr. out for at least 2 weeks with elbow injury

Philadelphia 76ers guard Kelly Oubre Jr. will be sidelined for at least two weeks after suffering an elbow injury during Tuesday night’s win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

The injury update came shortly after Philadelphia’s 139–129 win, which improved the team’s record to 35–30 on the season. The veteran swingman delivered one of his most productive performances of the year before the team announced the severity of the injury.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Oubre will be reevaluated in about two weeks.

“Philadelphia 76ers swingman Kelly Oubre Jr. will be re-evaluated in approximately two weeks after spraining the lateral collateral ligament in his left elbow,” Scotto reported Wednesday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The 30-year-old played a key role in the win over Memphis before his diagnosis. Oubre finished the game with 30 points and 12 rebounds while adding two steals, one block and one assist in 38 minutes.

He shot 10 of 24 from the field, struggled from long range, going 1-of-9 from three-point range, and converted 9 of 11 attempts from the free-throw line in the performance.

Kelly Oubre Jr.’s absence increases 76ers’ injury challenges during playoff push

Oubre has been a consistent contributor for Philadelphia throughout the season. In 41 appearances, including 36 starts, he averaged 14.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

The veteran guard is shooting 46.3% from the field, while connecting on a career-high 36.9% of his three-point attempts. He has logged 32.4 minutes per game, providing scoring, rebounding and defensive activity on the wing.

His absence caused the 76ers to face injury challenges during the second half of the season. Philadelphia has faced several lineup disruptions as it moves forward in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

After the win over Memphis, the 76ers will hit the road for a brief one-game trip against the Detroit Pistons. The matchup is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:00 PM ET and will stream on Prime Video.

LeBron James out vs. Pacers in latest elbow injury update

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will miss Friday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers after suffering a left elbow injury in Thursday night’s 120-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets, the team announced.

In the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game in Denver, James suffered a hard fall on a layup attempt. LeBron’s left elbow landed awkwardly and he lay on the ground writhing in pain before the ball went out of bounds and the game was stopped.

After being helped up and walking to the team’s bench, James was still grimacing and holding his elbows in apparent discomfort. Although James returned to the game after being immediately examined on the bench, his elbow was badly wrapped in ice during the team’s postgame media session in the locker room.

James said he would be dealing with the injury “day by day” and that it was a “funny situation, but it’s more serious.”

The Lakers did not provide any official update on his elbow specifically and did not say whether James had further testing for his injury. The good news is that his injury is being listed as an “elbow injury” and he is not expected to miss any length of time.

His next chance to play will be on Sunday at home against the New York Knicks.

Although the Lakers lost in Denver on Thursday night, LeBron had 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and eight assists. With his third shot of the contest, James recorded the 15,838th shot of his career, passing Kareem–Abdul-Jabbar (15,837) for the most field goals made in NBA regular season history.

“At the end of the day, just being added, and having my name mentioned with some of the greatest guys to ever play this game, it’s always humbling and pretty cool,” James said after the game. “I grew up watching, reading, analyzing a lot of great guys. If I ever got away from the NBA, I wanted to put myself in a position to do something like them and put my name up there with some of the greats.”

“So that’s awesome.”

LeBron is also closing in on another record, as once he plays six more games this season, he will surpass Robert Parish (1,611) for most games played in league history.

In 44 games this season, LeBron is averaging 21.4 points, 7.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.4 percent from the floor. Friday night will be James’ 19th missed game of the season, his most since missing 27 games during the 2022-23 season in Los Angeles.

Ja Morant still struggling with elbow injury

Ja Morant suffered a UCL injury in his left elbow during the Memphis Grizzlies’ 124–122 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on January 21. He’s been out of the lineup since then, and his latest injury update doesn’t bode well.

According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, reports indicate that the 26-year-old point guard is still experiencing discomfort in his elbow. Morant underwent imaging on his left elbow on Wednesday, and will be reevaluated in two weeks.

“The Grizzlies say Ja Morant is experiencing discomfort from a UCL sprain in his left elbow, and he had follow-up imaging yesterday, which revealed incomplete healing. Morant will be re-evaluated in two more weeks.”

Morant is expected to miss at least the next seven games for the Grizzlies. That’s about one-third of the games remaining on the schedule. Memphis will have more information around March 19, which could determine Morant’s status for the remainder of the regular season.

Ja Morant, a two-time All-Star, has only played 20 games this season. It’s been tough for the former first-round pick, as Morant is averaging 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds (career-low), 8.1 assists (career-high), and 1.0 steals per game. He is shooting 41.0% from the floor (career-low) and 23.5% from beyond the three-point line (career-low).

At one time, Morant was seen as potentially becoming the new face of the NBA. However, since getting into trouble for brandishing guns on social media (suspended a total of 33 games in the 2022-23 season) and being involved in an alleged fight with a then-17-year-old boy at the 2022 event, it can be said to the least that Ja Morant’s image in the league has diminished.

Donovan Clingan out of Memphis game after dangerous elbow

The Portland Trail Blazers were looking to keep their momentum going against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night, but things took a turn for the worse late in the second quarter. Donovan Clingan, the Blazers’ towering rookie center, found himself ejected early after a hot moment leading to automatic elimination.

With just over three minutes remaining in the first half and the Grizzlies leading 52–47, Clingan was running the ball at the top of the key. Memphis forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper was locked down defensively, getting tough and keeping his hands active in the rookie’s face. In an apparent attempt to create space or perhaps out of frustration from the physical pressure, the Klingon delivered a sharp elbow that caught Prosper, sending him falling to the floor.

Kishawn George out for at least 3 weeks with elbow injury

The Washington Wizards will be without Keyshawn George in the lineup for at least three weeks. It is being said that he is suffering from an elbow injury which will take some time to heal.

According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, reports indicate that George, who is 22, is dealing with a partial tear in the UCL in his left elbow. It is said that the Wizards will re-evaluate George’s arm after he sits out three weeks.

“Wizards forward Keyshawn George has a partial tear of the UCL in his left elbow and will be treated conservatively. George will be reevaluated in three weeks.”

The Wizards also provided an injury update on the second-year pro. Washington claims the injury occurred during the club’s 123-118 loss to the Houston Rockets on March 2.

“Washington Wizards forward Keyshawn George suffered a partial tear of the UCL in his left elbow on March 2 against the Houston Rockets. The injury will be treated conservatively, and George will be reevaluated in three weeks. Further updates will be provided at that time.”

With George out of the lineup, the Wizards will likely turn to Will Riley. However, Bub Carrington and Jaden Hardy may get some additional playing time as well. We’ll find out for sure when Washington takes on the Utah Jazz on Thursday.

Due to this injury, George will not be able to play 10 to 11 games. This is approximately half of the remaining competitions on the club’s schedule. Given that the Wizards have a 16-45 record and are in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, it is likely that Keyshawn George will sit out the remainder of the season. Ultimately, it depends on how severe the injury is.
