Nike has always been the leading authority on all things basketball footwear, pioneering innovative silhouettes since the early 1970s. The list of notable athletes is nearly endless, including some of the best players to ever play the game, like Michael Jordan and LeBron James. In reviving several models throughout 2025 and now 2026, Nike plans to revive the Nike Air Flightposite 3 sneakers for the first time.

Nike first introduced the Flyknit silhouette in 1999 as a part of its Nike Alpha Project. The shoes were designed by sneaker architect Eric Avar, who is responsible for some of the most iconic Nike sneakers of all-time like the Foamposite and the Nike Kobe Signature line.
The Nike Flightposite Series was favored by many superstars of the late 90s and early 2000s, most notably Kevin Garnett of the Timberwolves, Tim Duncan of the Spurs, and Allen Houston of the Knicks. For the first time since the release of the Flightposite 3 in 2001, Nike will be bringing back the hyper futuristic silhouette in 2027.

Following the same Foamposite construction as classics like the Air Foamposite and both previous Flightposite models, the third version is possibly the strangest looking of the collection. They look straight out of a sci-fi movie thanks to the “pods” on the sides and were marketed by some of the best players in the game. Reinforced with straps in the midfoot, the entire upper is made of Foamposite material and rests on a reactive Nike Zoom outsole.
Expected to drop in multiple colorways throughout 2027, Nike plans to add more reimagined looks to the classic sneakers. Typically coming at a higher price due to their premium materials, this pair is expected to retail for over $200. Plus, fans have been clamoring for their return for the last quarter decade, so expect a ton of hype when these drop on Nike SNKRS next year.
