Keon Ellis gets game-to-game update on finger injury

The Cleveland Cavaliers had been moving forward for the past few weeks with the new additions they acquired at the trade deadline, and then James Harden went down with a thumb fracture.

A few days later, Keon Ellis suffered a finger injury, according to Brett Siegel of Clutch Points.

“Cavs guard Keon Ellis has a dislocated solar plate of his left index PIP joint. He will be treated and continues to be evaluated, but like James Harden, he is listed as questionable and will be game-to-game,” Seagal, formerly of the Ax, wrote on Twitter.

It seems like the injury may require surgery at some point, but as of now, there have been no new reports on what the Cavs plan to do with the situation.

“Very often, this injury is described by basketball players as a ‘jammed finger.’ An avulsion fracture means that a small piece of bone has broken off from the bone of the main index finger. These types of injuries usually eventually require surgery to repair,” Siegel wrote.

Ellis was part of the deal with Dennis Schroder when he was traded to the Sacramento Kings for De’Andre Hunter. With Harden’s injury, there was a good chance Ellis would see some minutes, but with both of them sidelined, other players will have to step up.

If Ellis does have to have surgery, it’s uncertain how long he’ll be sidelined, but there’s a good chance it could be for a while. The Cavs would probably like to avoid this, but if there is no other option, they may have to play most of the season without him.

The good news is that it looks like Max Strus may be back on the court soon, as he took part in his first contact practice since his injury.
