New Miami Dolphins general manager John-Eric Sullivan offered a definitive update on the D’Von Achen trade chatter on Wednesday that will please the team’s fans.
The Dolphins have been very active this offseason. After a 7–10 finish, ownership decided to dismantle the team’s leadership and brought in a new regime led by Sullivan and head coach Mike McDaniel, replacing Jeff Hafley. But that was just the beginning.
Over the past month, the team has gone with an add-and-subtract approach to revamping the roster by trading Jaylen Waddle and Minkah Fitzpatrick. And cutting Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Bradley Chubb. This is a serious change that comes with a lot of obstacles and serious limitations to fill those holes. Since the team has sent several established stars packing, there has been much speculation about whether D’Von Achane could be next.
After a Pro Bowl season in 2025 – his first – the running back will certainly have a lot of value on the trade market. Especially since the former third-round pick’s final season on contract is a deal worth just over $2 million. But maybe that’s why Sullivan has no interest in relocating to Aachen this offseason.

During Wednesday’s press conference with Dolphins media, Sullivan told reporters that no matter what the rumors say, Achen is “not available for trade.” Additionally, with only one year remaining on his deal, he said there have been “positive conversations” between him and Bench’s representation about an extension, and he believes negotiations are “going in the right direction.”
After moving so many top players, the Dolphins are left with few core members to build around. Despite having a disappointing year for Miami, Aachen should be a key member of the team long-term after a breakout season in 2025.
