“I was sick” – defender regrets missing Crystal Palace and Tottenham transfers; hurt hell since then

Defender Per Schuurs has revealed the worst period of his career and how it ruined his move to Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.

In an emotional interview with De Telegraph, The 26-year-old describes a two-year battle with pain, uncertainty and mental collapse, and how he is now finally seeing his way back.

Crystal Palace and Tottenham efforts

Per Schuurs is currently a free agent after leaving Torino in February. That departure followed two years of injury. He previously spent 286 days out due to a cruciate ligament injury in October 2024 and is currently on 618 days out after knee surgery.

Before the latest problem, he was one of Serie A’s most sought-after defenders. After impressing at Torino, he left a number of Premier League clubs giving him tough competition. This included Crystal Palace and Tottenham.

“I reached a five-year contract with Inter in the summer, but the club could not reach an agreement with Torino,” he said.

“Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur also wanted to trade and pay more. They offered €35m, Inter offered 30m. While Torino demanded at least €40m. A standoff occurred. This also played a part in the background. I was sick of not making a transfer. In fact, still am,”

injury nightmare

Two months later, Per Schuurs suffered an injury that changed everything. The knee injury, despite injury, has created a medical mystery that has baffled experts across Europe.

“Everything seemed to be going well, but after a week I had a reaction on the outside of my knee,” he said.

“I was dying of pain. Instead of four weeks, I walked on crutches for four months. That’s when all the alarm bells rang. I saw the best orthopedic specialists in England, France, Italy and the Netherlands. But the reason for the complaints was not found.”

This made the guard sad. Not only had he missed out on big steps forward at Crystal Palace and Tottenham, but his career was now on the decline.

He admitted, “I had fallen from the pinnacle of my career and the most beautiful phase of my personal life into the deepest abyss of which I did not even know.”

“This manifested as crying and extreme anger. One evening, when I really couldn’t take it anymore, I said to my girlfriend: Sleep well and I hope I don’t wake up again. I never thought about ending my life.”

focus on return

Now the defender is back on the road to recovery. He can see the light at the end of the tunnel and is hoping to create a redemption arc for the movies.

He concluded, “I would prefer to lie in bed with the curtains closed.”

“I was amazed at the person I had become; I had not been the same for two years. I have been pain free for weeks now and am feeling better and better. I want to come back the most beautiful I have ever been.

“I’m concentrating on being in top shape until the end of June. Then I’ll start looking for a club. When I think about it, I have tears in my eyes. On the other hand, it’s painful that it’s a dream.”

The Senators defeat the Kraken; jake sanderson hurt

There were a lot of good things for the Senators in tonight’s game, but they were all overshadowed by the bad. It’s hard to know how bad it is right now. During the second period, Jake Sanderson was hit by Brandon Montour. He left the game with a sprained right shoulder and did not return. Time will tell what the diagnosis is. For now, let’s look at the details of the Senators’ 7-4 win over the Seattle Kraken.

Foegele’s first term as senator

What do you think of Warren Foegele’s senatorial debut? Having been traded to Ottawa by the Kings just days earlier, Foegele scored the fifth goal of the game for the Senators. He played on the fourth line with Eller and Zetterlund, playing at full strength, averaging only less than 12 minutes of ice time. As advertised, he came in playing a responsible two-way game while also doing some heavy fore-checking.

pinto’s big night

Pinto’s final scores tonight were:

  • 1 goal, 2 assists, 4 PIM, 17:26 time on ice

The penalty minutes are a little strange from Pinto, but the production is exactly what the Senators need from their two-way center. Pinto is always asked to do the heavy lifting defensively, whether it’s killing penalties or attacking the opposition’s best line. However, his offense has not been as consistent. Tonight is his first multi-point game since January 1st. It was his first three-point game since the start of the season.

additional comments

Tim Stützle extended his point streak to 12 games, while also scoring 30 goals for the second time in his career. Now let’s see if he can score 40 runs. Tyler Kleven has the ability to land a big hit after one of his players gets hit hard. Cleven pounced on Jordan Eberle shortly after Sanderson left the game. Kleven also scored a goal in this game. His cross-check on Jared McCann late in the game was not as good. He ended up with a five-minute major and a game misconduct. Let’s hope he doesn’t have to face suspension there. Let’s also hope that the upcoming Jake Sanderson update is a positive one.

Markkanen vs. Pelicans injury status after getting hurt in practice

The Utah Jazz host the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night at the Delta Center. They come into this game off a three-game losing streak and are facing a team that has won their last two games against the Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors.

Utah once again has several injury concerns. Markkanen is dealing with a right ankle sprain and a right hip injury after suffering an injury during practice, joining Keyonte George as questionable on the official injury list.

Players like Walker Kessler, Jaren Jackson Jr., Vince Williams Jr. and Jusuf Nurkic are out. Meanwhile, the Pelicans are in better shape in terms of injuries. Trey Murphy III and Yves Missy join Hunter Dickinson and Trey Alexander, who are both out on G League assignment.

Lauri Markkanen remains a game-time decision despite playing with 29 points against the Rockets. The Jazz (18-40) are floundering and trying to snap a three-game losing streak, while the Pelicans (17-42) are starting to find their rhythm, having won two in a row and five of their last 10 games.

When healthy, Markkanen has been nothing short of spectacular. The Finnish star is averaging 26.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game on the season. The offensive burden has fallen on George in George’s absence as both players have struggled with injuries. He is averaging 23.8 points and 6.5 assists per night.

The Jazz lost all three meetings to New Orleans last season, and may need their best player to avoid a similar fate in this first matchup of the current campaign.
