Arsenal and Tottenham offered transfer incentives as the player signs a move to the Premier League

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has offered Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur encouragement as he plans his next move this summer.

Sky Sports Germany covered the 31-year-old’s comments today. He has admitted that he is thinking of moving out of Germany this year.

Goretzka is set to become a free agent at the end of the season when his Bayern Munich deal expires. He had already announced his decision to step down at that time.

However, where he goes afterwards remains to be seen. He has played his entire career so far in Germany, coming through the youth ranks of Bochum before playing at Schalke and then joining Bayern Munich on a free transfer in 2018.

He has since won 17 major trophies with Bayern, making over 290 appearances in the process.

That trophy cabinet includes six Bundesliga titles, one Champions League and several other competitions including the DFB Pokal, DFL Supercup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Free agent this summer

This makes it an attractive option in the market. In fact, he has long been linked with a move to the Premier League. There is interest in them even before the summer.

Sport Witness has covered various reports from Germany emphasizing that Arsenal and Tottenham are both battling for his signature. One of them, last month, put both parties in the picture.

Four days ago a report stated that Arsenal had prepared a contract for the 31-year-old. It was a three-year deal worth €6.5m after tax. Now Goretzka has offered encouragement to the Gunners and Tottenham.

“When I announced my decision I already said I thought the time was right.” He said.

“This is probably my last chance to go abroad. I really want to play competitive football again. We’ll see what opportunities arise. I’m absolutely relaxed about it. I’ll just let things unfold.

“Who doesn’t love sunshine, right? But I definitely wouldn’t base my next move on the weather. We’ll find something nice.”

Arsenal or Tottenham?

Of the two, Arsenal would be the more attractive option for Goretzka at this time.

By the summer, they could become Premier League champions and be one of the strongest teams in the Champions League.

In contrast, Tottenham are currently battling relegation. Igor Tudor’s side are one point clear of the relegation zone after defeat by Crystal Palace this week. They are in great danger and the transfer business is at a standstill.

Still, if they manage to hang on, it looks like they have a chance. Goretzka certainly has a desire to move abroad after his time in Germany.
