Denny Hamlin addresses the Bubba Wallace-Carson Hocevar incident at Martinsville

23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace had a chance to finish in the top 20 in Sunday’s Cook Out 400, which would have kept him at least in the top seven in the NASCAR standings entering the break. Instead, he got involved with Carson Hocevar in a decision that ruined his day and cost the No. 23 team.

Recaping the race on Monday’s episode of Action Detrimental, driver and 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin noted Wallace’s costly action against Hocevar in the final stages.

RELATED: Cook Out 400 winners, losers, including Bubba Wallace

“I understand that Bubba wrecked himself trying to get Carson off the road. He didn’t give up, kept driving out there and ultimately wrecked himself and others because of it. That’s what I believe.”

On a restart with 77 laps to go in the Cook Out 400, Hocevar made an aggressive move by going under Wallace in the corner to make it three-wide. The No. 23 driver, who felt his car was performing poorly after showing a lot of pace in practice, seemed to be upset by the move.

On the next lap, Wallace passed his car to the No. 77 and then passed him again into the corner. Hocevar’s car spun, taking out other cars along with it, while the No. 23 car suffered damage late in the race, resulting in a 36th-place finish.

Hamlin also addressed Hocevar’s actions leading up to the incident, which is not uncommon in NASCAR, but is generally viewed as a ‘d***’ move.

RELATED: Carson Hocevar Addresses Comparisons to NASCAR Legend

“It’s normally an ad*** move, if everybody is restarting in Turn 1 on the restart, everybody has to check for the corner, OK? If you’re in row 8, you’re normally checking for turn 1 as quickly as possible. It’s like going into Turn 1 at COTA where someone is just like, ‘Okay, I’m just going to the left and if you guys are going to check-up, I Going to jam it in there. Carson says I’m going to go three-wide again down the stretch in Martinsville. This is not illegal, it is just an ad*** move.”

That doesn’t mean Hamlin condoned Wallace’s actions, which cost the No. 23 team double-digit points and dropped to 11th in points. Instead, it is the future Hall of Famer who explains the specific move that further incensed Wallace and why Hocevar’s move was responded to with hostile action.

Hocevar has driven like this since coming to the Cup Series, and he has made it clear that he is willing to do anything to win. Wallace, at age 32, is an experienced driver whose emotions ultimately only hurt himself and harmed teammates who were not involved in the incident.

Fan asked to leave game after unexpected Stephen Curry incident

Stephen Curry is currently dealing with a knee injury, which has kept him out of the Golden State Warriors’ last 19 games. Although it is unclear exactly when he will return, head coach Steve Kerr is optimistic that he will return before the end of the season. Still, after Curry was out, the Dubs’ troubles continued, as they lost another game on Wednesday night, a 120–99 loss on the road to the Boston Celtics.

However, some fans may be desperate to see Curry back in action. In fact, one fan in attendance at TD Garden on Wednesday was so desperate to get Curry’s attention that he crossed a line – pulling the Warriors star towards him, causing Curry to face a confused concussion.

This action of the fan did not go unpunished. the man who drew curry asked to leave game, which is the perfect job to maintain the safety of NBA superstars.

It’s not exactly clear what was going through that fan’s mind, because doing something like this would never go unnoticed and he would not be punished. They paid good money to see the Warriors take on the Celtics, but that doesn’t give them the right to do whatever they want.

The Warriors miss Stephen Curry a lot

Curry is the engine that powers the Warriors’ offense, and over the last 19 games, everything has been rough for Golden State. With Curry out, their net rating has dropped to almost minus-four, and it has led to their decline in the West standings.

What the Dubs are doing amid Curry’s injury is admirable, as many have tried to get Golden State a few wins here and there. But without Curry, the Warriors could reach a point of no comeback, which would be a sad way to go out for this team.

Marcus Smart is considering playing with a ‘glass in hand’ after almost losing in a punching incident

When the Los Angeles Lakers signed free agent Marcus Smart over the summer, they were determined to prove he could still compete for a championship contender. And while his team hasn’t been consistent enough this season to earn that label, Smart and the Lakers have the third-best record in the Western Conference standings. Marcus knows he is fortunate to still have an NBA career.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, after helping the Lakers earn a 127-125 overtime win against the Denver Nuggets, Smart reflected on his 2022 injury that resulted in him nearly losing his right arm.

“I was taken to the ER and lost a lot of blood,” Smart told ESPN. “I passed out. …That’s how I lost a lot.”

Smart, who missed the game-winning shot against the Lakers during his time with the Boston Celtics in 2018, regained consciousness after receiving 20 stitches.

“The doctor looked me in the eyes and told me, ‘I don’t know how you still use your right hand,'” Smart said. “‘You should thank God sincerely every day.'” The piece of glass that had cut into his hand was just millimeters away from ceasing its use completely.

“They said it fit perfectly between every tendon in my hand without causing any damage,” Smart said. “And they had to leave the extra piece in, because they said it would cause more damage if we took it out.”

That piece of glass is still in Smart’s right hand.

“I’ve had two dislocations with torn ligaments in two fingers,” Smart said. “I have glass in my hand. I have torn ligaments in my right thumb and had surgery there. I have dislocated four of my total five fingers… My entire right hand has just been through a lot. Honestly, I’m lucky to even have my right hand.

“For six years after the incident with the glass, I still had the glass in my hand and I used to play with it. And there were times when my hand would go numb because of it. Many times, in many games, I couldn’t control it. I had to play and there were times when I was shooting the ball and just, I had no feeling in the arm, in the hand.”

Still, the 32-year-old Smart can impact wins at a high level, which he proved by finishing with 21 points and five steals against the Nuggets.

Lakers veteran Marcus Smart hasn’t let the haters stop him. Reflecting on the most horrific injury of his career, Smart had time to reflect on those who do not consider the Lakers a legitimate threat to win a title.

“Basically, we’re tired of listening to people,” Smart said. “I know I am. And if you’re competitive, if you have any kind of competitor in you, you’re going to get tired of that too. So you want to try to prove them wrong.”

The Lakers beat the Rockets 100-92 on Monday, extending their winning streak to six.

OVW boss makes first public statement after horrific referee seizure incident goes viral

Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) owner Al Snow made his first public statement on Saturday regarding the horrific events that occurred in which officials slowly responded to a referee who was having a seizure during a match for the company.

A scary moment from a recent OVW event that went viral on Friday has wrestling fans demanding it from the company’s top brass. During Friday’s TV tapings, referee Dallas Edwards got physically involved in a match when a competitor pulled him into the path of his opponent’s top rope crossbody.

The move knocked Edwards unconscious as he hit the back of his head hard on the mat. However, this moment did not cause the match to stop immediately and the wrestlers involved continued on. The lack of prompt medical care caused Edwards to suffer a seizure inside the ring.

Unfortunately, despite severe shock during the visit, OVW staff and officers waited approximately two minutes before providing care to Edwards. The incident spread quickly on social media and shone a terrible light on the wrestling promotion.

On Saturday, OVW owner and former WWE star Al Snow gave his first public statement on the scary moment.

Snow wrote, “There is always a risk of injury for anyone who steps into the ring in professional wrestling. On March 12, during a live OVW television program, Dallas was involved in a planned moment of physical contact with a wrestler, resulting in a head injury.”

“Traditionally, when an injury occurs in the ring, the referee is the central point of communication, assessment and decision-making. In this unprecedented situation, the person who would normally make the assessment was the one who needed assistance. That unexpected breakdown in communication caused the match to be stopped and the show’s conclusion delayed.”

“…At OVW, the health and safety of our artists and executives has always been our top priority. We are proud of the standards we have maintained over the years, but we also recognize there is always room to strengthen and improve.”

“With this in mind, we are reviewing our existing procedures and updating many of our in-ring and ringside protocols to ensure we continue to meet the highest expectations for performer safety.”

Snow said improved communications systems, more referee training and expanded ringside response measures are part of the changes. He also said that Edwards is recovering from injuries suffered this week.

Victor Wembanyama incident attracts Jason Tatum F bomb

While much of the conversation surrounding the Boston Celtics-San Antonio Spurs contest focused on Jaylen Brown’s ejection, Jayson Tatum turned some of his attention to another call. Or in this case a non-call. And that included Victor Vembanyama.

At one point during the game, the Celtics star went into the lane to get a bucket. As the ball passed through the hoop, Wemby gave Tatum a slight push. There was no foul play.

Tatum minced no words in describing the incident.

“I mean, there was definitely a talk about it between me and the ref. I was like, how did you not see it!”

Tatum’s comments came just minutes later and in the same locker room spot where teammate Derrick White called two technical fouls on Brown “bullsh*t.”

“I said so on the way back.” Tatum continued his comments. “Yeah, I stopped talking and just went back into the crowd.”

In his third game of the year, due to an Achilles injury suffered during the playoffs, Tatum scored a season-high 24 at the Alamo City. Vembanyama scored the highest score of 39 points in the game.

Jayson Tatum reacts to Jaylen Brown’s firing

Tatum’s thoughts on the drama involving Wembley come after he shared his thoughts on Brown’s firing.

“I disagreed with that. They made a big deal about prime-time games and the stars playing and being available. You definitely got a push, and it probably wasn’t very good at first. The emotions are here, so I can tell you, you have to understand a nationally televised game between the best teams in the league. When you make a big deal about the stars playing and being available, you make everybody want to finish the game. So, I disagree with that.”

Tatum, who has held the position for the past six seasons, was the Celtics’ leading scorer last year, admitting he felt the need to do more. However, in reality, he could do very little with half the competition watching on the bench.

When the four-time All-NBA First Team selection was asked if he was ready for 35 minutes per night, down from about 27 minutes per outing, “I can play more.”

“But, I understand the bigger picture,” Tatum continued. “Right now, I’m not thinking about my soreness. I mean, I’m trying to compete, I’m trying to be out there, but it’s part of the plan, so I have to stick with it.”

The third overall pick in 2017 saw the court for 24 minutes in a 125–116 loss to the Spurs.

“I feel good,” Tatum said after helping Boston keep it close against a team that has won 16 of 17 contests, including this one.

“You have to give them credit,” the former Duke star said of the Spurs. “They made some plays, they hit some big shots. I felt like we missed some shots that we normally make. We competed to the end. Guys stepped up in a big way.”

“They’re a fun team to watch,” Tatum continued about San Antonio, “They’re very competitive, and you can see why they’ve had such a good season.”

Jabari Walker reveals unfortunate incident before big night vs. Jazz

Jabari Walker had a career-high performance during the Philadelphia 76ers’ 106–102 victory over the struggling Utah Jazz. The 23-year-old bounced back with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds, helping the 76ers stage a fourth-quarter comeback against now 18-44 Utah.

However, while the game proved to be huge for Walker, an unfortunate incident occurred before that as the 2022 draftee scratched a brand new car earlier.

“I actually had an unfortunate incident happen today. I just got a new car and I was driving it for like 30 minutes and I scratched it. And talk about being in the zone and you know, I just wanted to come to the game and it was an unfortunate incident for me. Mentally I was walking here like, ‘My brand new car that I just got, I scratched it,'” he revealed, according to a post by PHLY Sixers on X.

However, Walker starred for his team in the absence of several key stars, including Joel Embiid, VJ Edgecombe, Kelly Oubre Jr. and Paul George, who is still suspended.

“When I saw the first two 3s go in, I was like, ‘Okay. Okay. This is a whole new world. I got a chance to redeem myself’ so I forgot about what happened earlier today,” he said.
Walker’s night started explosively. During his first stint, he scored 15 points on all five of his shot attempts, including four three-pointers.

While he undoubtedly proved vital, it was once again Tyrese Maxey who led the way with 25 points on 8-of-22 shooting. Quentin Grimes also played a key role, especially late in the fourth quarter.

He finished with 16 points and knocked down two go-ahead free throws with less than 17 seconds remaining on the clock. However, this game will be extremely memorable for Walker for several reasons.

Not only did he return with a career-best score, but he did so on a day that didn’t start off on the best of terms.

2 Killed in Shooting Incident at School Hockey Match in US

Tragedy Strikes US School Hockey Match: 2 Killed in Shocking Shooting Incident

In a distressing turn of events that has sent shockwaves across the globe, a violent shooting incident occurred during a high school hockey match in the United States, resulting in the tragic death of two individuals. The event, which was meant to be a celebration of amateur sports and community spirit, turned into a scene of chaos and mourning, raising fresh concerns about public safety and gun violence in the US—a topic of high interest for the Indian diaspora and families of students studying abroad.

Details of the Shooting Incident

The incident took place during a scheduled hockey tournament, drawing a significant crowd of students, parents, and local sports enthusiasts. According to preliminary reports from local authorities, gunfire erupted following an altercation near the stadium premises. Despite the swift arrival of emergency services, two people succumbed to their injuries.

The panic that followed saw hundreds of spectators seeking cover, with the match being abandoned immediately. While law enforcement agencies have initiated a high-level investigation to determine the exact motive, the immediate impact has been the cancellation of several local sporting events as communities grapple with the trauma.

The Cultural Significance of Hockey and Safety

Hockey is more than just a sport in North America; it is a cultural staple involving youth development and community bonding. For many Indians living in the US or those with children aspiring to join American universities, these “safe spaces” like school rinks and stadiums are now being viewed under a lens of scrutiny.

With a growing number of Indian students migrating to the US for higher education and participating in extracurricular activities, such incidents trigger significant anxiety back home in India. The safety of public gatherings and educational institutions remains a top priority for the Indian community globally.

Impact on Local Sports Communities

This shooting has prompted sports boards across the region to rethink security protocols. Discussions are now underway regarding:

  • Increased police presence at school-level sporting events.
  • Implementation of metal detectors at stadium entrances.
  • Mental health support for student-athletes witnessed the violence.

Conclusion

The loss of two lives at a school hockey match is a grim reminder of the persistent challenges regarding gun safety in the United States. While sports are intended to bridge communities and foster discipline, such incidents cast a long shadow over the safety of youth activities. For the Indian audience, particularly those with family members overseas, this serves as a prompt to stay informed about local safety measures and remain vigilant during public gatherings.
