Crystal Palace and Newcastle United transfer target Ousmane Diomande

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace have been keeping an eye on Ousmane Diomande for some time, and the defender’s performances this season only reinforce why both clubs remain wary of a transfer.

At the age of 22, Diomande has established himself as a key man for Sporting CP. He has played regularly in domestic and European competitions, making over 40 appearances already this season. He averages over 2 clearances and almost 1 interception per game, while also maintaining a strong aerial presence.

Furthermore, his passing accuracy is above 85%, highlighting his ability to create from the back. That profile – physical, organized and reliable in possession – fits the modern Premier League centre-back mould.

Those demonstrations did not go unnoticed. His market value has steadily increased, and interest from England has remained consistent over the past year. Crystal Palace and Newcastle United both remained in the transfer picture during the January window, and it looks like their attitude is not changing.

Now, there is a clear indication of how the transfer could actually happen.

A Bola report: Sporting is open to transfer offers

According to Portuguese newspaper ballSporting are ready to negotiate the departure of Ousmane Diomande this summer if the right offer comes along.

The defender is currently valued at around €45m (£39m) by Transfermarkt. Importantly, the club are prepared to discuss offers in that range, despite his €80m (£69m) release clause. That price range has been suggested before.

This stance effectively invites interested clubs to return with concrete bids.

For Newcastle and Crystal Palace, this is a significant development. Both parties have monitored Diomande closely, and now they have a defined price bracket to work with.

Palace were the closest to signing him. was near the london club An offer of €55 million (£47 million) was considered last summer But the step was not completed. This amount could be substantial if it is presented in the summer window.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have maintained a long-term interest. With strong financial support, they are in good shape to act If they decide to prioritize a centre-back addition.

Crystal Palace and Newcastle transfer opportunities

Ousmane Diomande is expected to be included in Ivory Coast’s squad for the upcoming World Cup. That tournament could further raise his profile.

Sporting is time conscious. Portuguese clubs often try to maximize value through major international competitions, and Diomande fits into that strategy.

His rise has already been remarkable. Sporting signed him from FC Midtjylland in January 2023 for €7.5m (£6.4m), with bonuses taking the total fee to around €14.5m (£12.4m).

Since then, he has become one of the most reliable defenders in the league. His combination of strength, recovery speed and composure have made him an extraordinary performer.

For Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, the message is clear. The player is performing, the evaluation is defined, and the sporting ‘Ready to talk’

The opportunity exists again – this time with fewer unknowns surrounding the deal.
