Is there some tension between Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics? Former NBA star and Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady recently said on his podcast that there were “deep issues” between Brown and the Celtics, although team president Brad Stevens and Brown himself denied this.

The team performed brilliantly in the first round of this season’s playoffs, taking a 3–1 series lead against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Is Jaylen Brown looking to move on? He described it as his most enjoyable season in the NBA. That’s saying something since they won the championship in 2024. But could his happiness have been the opportunity he got to be The Man in Boston for most of this year? Jayson Tatum was out until the beginning of March, and perhaps Brown really liked taking the reins of his team.

If that’s the case, he could get it on a full-time basis if the latest discussions are successful. This wouldn’t be the first time the Browns have heard their name in trade rumors. But Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, speaking on NBC Sports, said it could get more serious this summer.

It has been a complicated relationship. He has to absorb trade rumors year after year. So if there is any tension, it is understandable. But if there was an opportunity for Boston to trade Jaylen Brown, it would probably be this offseason…

One team is going to get Giannis (Antetokounmpo), and that will probably leave five or six teams out there with young players, picks, draft capital and a whole bunch of stuff that they can potentially offer Boston for Jaylen Brown in a trade... They’re hearing reports of tension, and wondering if there’s an opportunity to take Jaylen Brown.

And you could honestly argue that acquiring Jaylen Brown is a better decision than acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo (based on age and recent injury history).

Mannix then specifically names four teams that could fit the bill to shift from Giannis to Jaylen trade focus:

• Miami Heat
• Houston Rockets
• Golden State Warriors
• atlanta hawks

These are actually the teams that seem to be most linked to Giannis, along with the New York Knicks. Undoubtedly, Kevin Durant will loom large over Brown in Houston, although KD could be dealt. And in Golden State, as long as Steph Curry exists, no one else can ever be “the guy.”

Brown finished the regular season with the best numbers of his career as he was the only alpha player out-scoring Tatum for the first 4 1/2 months. He posted 28.7 points, 6.9 boards and 5.1 assists per game. He took more field goal attempts (21.7 per game) and free throw attempts (7.5 per game) than ever before in his career. And he led the entire NBA in two-point FG attempts, at 16.0 per night.

Again, much of this will be impacted next season with Tatum’s return. So between that and the so-called “deep issues” between him and the team that his friend T-Mac talked about, perhaps Brown would welcome a new destination.

It’s safe to say that this week’s bingo card features ESPN’s talking head Stephen A. There was no bad blood between Smith and Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown.

There is no doubt that Brown is one of the NBA’s elite players. And if the 2025-26 season were still a go, he would have silenced detractors by leading the Celtics to a 56-win season with an MVP-caliber performance while teammate Jayson Tatum missed much of the season recovering from a torn Achilles.

However, unlike Tatum, Brown has developed a reputation for honest opinions that sometimes rub fans the wrong way. One incident came shortly after the quarterfinal loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, when he claimed that this past season was the one he enjoyed the most during his 10-year career.

This comment received some blowback from Celtics and NBA fans as it came during a year when his team had blown a 3–1 lead in the opening round of the playoffs. During Wednesday Morning Edition take firstSmith took Brown to task for his comments and for being the top star on the first Celtics team to blow a 3–1 series lead in the playoffs. He suggested that his colleagues ignore Brown’s comments and ended everything by saying, “They need to shut up… unless you’re trying to do business.”

Well, the opinion came back to Brown, and the thoughtful MVP candidate offered a response. “I’ll keep quiet.” [and] If you’re ‘cool’ then stop streaming and retire. Let’s give the people what they want,” he wrote in a response on X.

The streaming portion of Brown’s response was related to Smith’s suggestion that Tatum was on take first Instead of Brown’s podcast because he’s annoyed by his teammates’ comments about his favorite season.

In a 104–102 loss to the Thunder on March 12, Jaylen Brown went 13 of 14 from the free-throw line, before he and the Celtics avenged that loss in a 10-point win on Thursday. Scoring 12 of his 31 points from the line, Jaylen led Boston to an impressive two-point victory at the TD Garden.

Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 33 points, eight assists and two steals in Thursday’s loss to the Celtics.

There has recently been discussion in the NBA of a 65-game rule that does not allow players to receive any awards at the end of the season if they do not meet the criteria. Cade Cunningham is expected to miss the rest of the regular season due to a bad lung, keeping him from making the All-NBA team despite the season he spent for the Detroit Pistons.

There are some who are in favor of the 65-game rule, while others believe the rule should be stricter. Jaylen Brown believes in the latter, but he also doesn’t believe people should back down from the former stance after Cunningham’s injury.

“When it first became the 65-game rule, everyone was in support of it,” Brown said on his Twitch stream. “At the time, people were talking about people who were load managing, and there were a lot of complaints about load management. There were a lot of complaints about superstars not playing. Now they move the norm to 65, and now it seems like the popular opinion is that it’s time to get rid of 65.”

Brown said he wished it were 62 games instead of 65, but he had no problem with the norm.

“It was the opposite of what I thought at first, that guys would play 40 or 50 games and then be drafted to All-NBA teams,” Brown said. They’ll play half the season, and their numbers will be better because they’ve only played half the games compared to someone who played 70, 68, or 72 games. That’s a big difference.”

The rules allow for awards to players who have played most of the season, but it is unfortunate when someone like Cunningham is lost late in the season and does not win the award he deserves. It’s uncertain whether the league will make any rule changes, but it wouldn’t be a surprise.

Tatum obviously isn’t fully back yet, but his mere presence makes the Celtics a more dangerous team than ever during the 2025-26 season.

There was a lot of hype surrounding Tatum’s return, as it had been rumored for almost the entire season that he might make his highly anticipated return sooner than many expected. But in his absence, Jaylen Brown has stepped up to become the team’s undisputed alpha, and he has more than risen to the occasion – averaging 28.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 55 games before Tatum’s return.

BOSTON — Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce grew up in downtown Los Angeles and was even a Lakers fan as a kid, but he didn’t hesitate to call Beantown home on Sunday afternoons.

Like Pierce, Boston wasn’t always home to Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

They were born elsewhere, yet unfamiliarity was not the only reason they were initially hesitant to embrace the city. Tatum, like Pierce, grew up a Lakers fan and dreamed that the Celtics’ hated rival would select him in the draft. Brown, meanwhile, was booed by Celtics fans on his draft night nearly 10 years ago for reasons beyond his control.

Despite these difficult introductions to Boston, Pierce has helped bridge the gap. As Tatum and Brown became superstars, the 2008 NBA Finals MVP supported them from afar and got to know them up close whenever he visited New England or when the Celtics traveled to LA.

“I’ve been happy for him since day one,” Pearce told ClutchPoints. “I’m always coming over and whenever they’re in Los Angeles, I try to watch their workouts… It’s just a brotherhood, no matter what the age difference is.”

Pierce is not the first Celtic to link up with the next generation of Green Teamers. He recalled that when he was playing more than a decade ago, Celtics legends like Bob Cousy and Jo Jo White would come to team practices. Those gestures did not go unnoticed, as Pierce said they were important to keeping the Celtics’ historic, winning culture alive.

“A lot of the former players were much older than me, but they always found a way to move forward and I try to do the same,” he said. “I try to maintain the heritage of Celtic culture by getting back into sports whenever I can.”

In addition to appearing in support of Tatum and Brown, Pierce has also spoken out. Whenever Boston’s dynamic duo draws the ire of the media — whether it’s in the form of arguments over fantasy chemistry issues or the constant comparison of the two stars — Pierce supports his guys.

“When I see things that I don’t think are right, I always call them out in the media because I feel like Boston players don’t get their due for the most part,” he revealed. “Brown not being in the Olympics, Tatum not getting minutes – I’m always advocating for them and rooting for them and fighting for them.”

Following their victory in a friendly 3-point contest on Garden Parquette as part of the Causeway Classic, Pierce will probably stick around to watch his pupils take the same floor in a few hours when they face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night. And it doesn’t matter if Pierce is sitting in a luxury suite or courtside, don’t be surprised if he gets to his feet to cheer on Tatum and Brown.

The Boston Celtics defeated the Golden State Warriors 120-99 on Wednesday. Meaning, under normal circumstances, Jaylen Brown and Stephen Curry would be facing off. However, Curry is out with a knee injury.

Last December, Brown said Curry would have to work harder in head-to-head matchups.

Now in March, Brown made a pretty shocking statement about Curry’s safety, according to NBA TV. Basically, Brown says Curry is the hardest to control because, later on, he runs out of gas.

On Wednesday, Brown led the way with 32 points, 11 of 20 from the field, 9 of 9 at the free throw line, with six rebounds and five assists. As a result, the Celtics are now 46–23, the second-best record in the Eastern Conference.

Additionally, Boston has won seven of its last 10 games and is on a three-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Warriors are 33-36, in 10th place in the Western Conference, and have lost 8 of their last 10 games.

Jaylen Brown said his leadership approach with the Boston Celtics has taken an unconventional turn this season, incorporating astrology and numerology to better communicate with teammates.

Brown revealed the method after Boston’s 120-99 win over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, a performance in which he led the team with 32 points while adding six rebounds, five assists and two steals. “I remember like Neemias, he’s the year of the rabbit so his communication is different from D-White. D-White is the year of the dog so his communication style is different. Hugo is also a dog, Peyton is a tiger, JT is a tiger, Ron is a dragon, who is a dragon. Nicola he’s new to our team, he’s the year of the horse right now. Each of them have different communication styles and you can go into that like numerology as well.”

Jaylen Brown’s astrology, numerology outlook aligns with career year, Celtics’ success

He also explained how numerology influences his leadership approach.

“Sam is five, I’m five… so, different breakdowns and you can even go into star signs. Like JT, he’s Pisces, etc. I learned all different kinds of things, so I was able to communicate to people in different ways to help my leadership this year.”

This approach coincided with one of the most productive seasons of Brown’s career. Through 62 games, the 28-year-old has averaged 28.5 points, seven rebounds, 5.1 assists and one steal per contest, while shooting 48% from the field and 34.2% from three-point range in 34.1 minutes per game.

What does retirement mean for Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum?

As Celtics legend Robert Parish strolled through TD Garden on Wednesday cheering on fans — promoting his new book and looking at two franchises he played for decades ago — Brown was reminded of his limited basketball career.

When Brown was asked if he would return to Boston from time to time, like Parrish, he responded, “Honestly, I can’t even think that far ahead.” “Obviously, Parish is a legend, so it’s good to see him out there. He looked good. Looks to be in pretty good shape. So it’s great to have him around.”

Fellow Celtics star Jayson Tatum, who tied a season-high with 24 points against the Warriors, was also looking to the future. And while he didn’t reveal anything definite in terms of post-playing plans, the six-time All-Star did mention how great it is to see the beloved Celtics come home to a standing ovation.

When Tatum and Brown call it quits, there’s no doubt both stars’ jerseys will be retired and they’ll be placed among the stars in the rafters at TD Garden. However, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon, as Boston’s dynamic duo is focused on chasing another title with the Celtics at 46-23 before the 2026 NBA Playoffs. Additionally, neither Celtics star is even 30 years old and both of them have signed long contracts for at least three more seasons.

No matter what happens for Tatum and Brown over the next several years, they’ve earned the right to handle retirement how they want, whether that looks like headlining home games in Boston or stepping out of the public eye forever.

Brown didn’t miss a beat to start the game, hitting back-to-back jumpers against a woefully understaffed Warriors team at TD Garden. Although the Dubs – who were without four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry due to a knee injury – tried to make it a contest, Brown and Tatum always had offensive answers. Even though the 46-23 Celtics are generally accustomed to winning, what Tatum and Brown have accomplished together is special. They would be the all-time scoring leaders of six other NBA franchises at this time and have more playoff wins than many teams.

Furthermore, they represent the Celtics well and are dedicated to Boston.

If he leads the Celtics to their second championship in three seasons, of course, the entire city of Boston will be even more intoxicated.

The Boston Celtics were in a primetime matchup with another top team in the Western Conference after losing to the San Antonio Spurs a few nights earlier. This time, they had the Oklahoma City Thunder, but they could not win this one either and lost 104–102.

Jaylen Brown played until the end in this game after being ejected against the Spurs for arguing with the referees about a foul call. After this game, he shared that he was mostly satisfied with how the game was called as he went to the free-throw line 14 times, but he felt he could have gone more in the fourth quarter after some hard drives.

Brown then said that maybe he should have flopped to get those calls, and although he didn’t mention Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s name, some believe he might be calling the Thunder star.

The Celtics guard remained visibly upset and argued with officials as teammates attempted to calm him down. Umpire Suyyash Mehta later assessed a second technical foul, resulting in Brown being sent off.

LeBron James expressed strong support for Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown as an NBA MVP candidate after the Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 111-89 on Sunday at Crypto.com Arena.

Brown led the way with 32 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 36 minutes. He came close to a triple-double while guiding a Boston team that had been without Jayson Tatum due to a torn Achilles since Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on May 12, 2025.
