Jack Hughes’ future with the New Jersey Devils has been in the headlines recently. With Quinn Hughes approaching NHL free agency, a potential extension with the Minnesota Wild is on the table. However, the Hughes brothers’ futures remain tied to each other, and an NHL insider has provided a big update on the New Jersey forward.

As reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on the Fan Hockey Show, the Devils are not trading Jack Hughes after missing the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs. This report comes after The Athletic reported that Minnesota general manager Bill Guerin attempted to trade for New Jersey defenseman Luke Hughes at the 2026 NHL trade deadline.

The Wild want to keep Quinn Hughes long-term, so trading for one of his brothers is a great way to do that. However, is reelection more likely in New Jersey or Minnesota?

Why is Quinn Hughes more likely to join Jack Hughes in New Jersey?

Jack Hughes is under contract with New Jersey through the 2029–2030 NHL season. Luke Hughes, meanwhile, has a contract that runs until the 2031–32 campaign. So, is it more likely that the two New Jersey players will join Quinn Hughes in Minnesota or vice versa?

Despite what the public says, it is far more likely that Quinn Hughes comes to the Devils than the other way around. With the Wild defenseman entering his contract year, some questions need answers soon. If Quinn Hughes plans to stay with Minnesota, an extension will likely be pursued this summer.

Friedman had previously predicted a three-year contract, in line with Jack Hughes’ contract in New Jersey. Unless Jack Hughes requests a trade, it doesn’t make sense for New Jersey to trade him. After all, if Quinn Hughes wants to play with his brothers, he can sign with the Devils in NHL free agency next year.

It all depends on what Quinn Hughes wants to do moving forward. If a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals is his goal, staying in Minnesota would make the most sense. If playing with his brothers is a bigger desire than signing with New Jersey then that’s the most realistic outcome.

Either way, it’s much easier to imagine the Hughes brothers playing with each other in New Jersey than it is in Minnesota.

When looking at the New Jersey Devils and the Toronto Maple Leafs you couldn’t picture two more opposites.

The former created a fare that was universally loved. The latter hired and summoned firing squads, and had them attack their targets.

Whether you like the way the question was asked or not, there’s certainly reason to be skeptical of the Maple Leafs’ new direction.

The Charlotte Hornets honored Dell Curry with a powerful jersey retirement night, and the legend made sure the moment was for the fans as well as him. During the ceremony, the former Hornets standout stood under the lights and spoke from the heart and delivered a message that resonated throughout the arena.

“If you see me growing, if you see my family growing, it means so much that you’re still here and supporting me and my family,” he said. The words gained weight. They felt personal. They felt that they had earned.

Curry didn’t stop there. He focused on the current Hornets. “I want to challenge you to continue supporting this team,” he said. “The guys in the locker room … they’re working hard to make you proud.” The message contained both gratitude and faith.

That moment also brought history. Curry’s jersey became the second jersey to be retired in Hornets franchise history, joining Bobby Philps. The crowd felt it. A legacy sealed in the rooftops.

Dell Curry’s legacy will live on in the Hornets’ future

Curry’s voice rose again as he talked about what’s coming next. “This is going to be the premier franchise in the NBA, there’s no doubt about that,” he said. That confidence didn’t feel forced. It felt like a conviction built up over decades. He saw something in this Hornets team. He believed in it.

Then came the most emotional turn. “I’m a country boy from grottoes, man. I didn’t know this would happen.” Humility trumps everything else. For a moment, the banners, the lights, the noise, none of it matters. Just gratitude.

Curry’s resume speaks for itself. Ten seasons with the Hornets. Sixth Person of the Year in 1994. Former all-time leader in points and threes. But this night felt different. It felt complete.

To conclude his jersey retirement speech, Dell Curry turned back to the Hornets and their fans. “So we’ve got to keep this party going… keep winning. We’ve got to support them. Thanks for having me.”

The question now is, can they rise to match the legacy that watches over them?

On Thursday, the Charlotte Hornets will pay tribute to Dell Curry by retiring his jersey. The game against the Orlando Magic will be a celebration of his excellence on the field.

Additionally, Curry will get a chance to share the moment with his family, including his son Stephen Curry. Ahead of the celebration, the family openly shared the various nicknames they called him, but according to Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer, one stood out the most.

Fowler said that Steph and his brother Seth call Dale “Pops”. Additionally, his daughter, Sydelle Curry-Lee, calls him “Dad”. Then, Curry’s 10 grandchildren call him “Gee Daddy.”

However, for the first time, Steph shared with Fowler the nickname they use to call Dale in private.

“We call him ‘The Originator,'” Steph said of Dale. “Because all of this — all of us and our basketball family tree? It originated with him. A friend of ours gave him that nickname on a golf trip about a decade ago. And so now we run with it.”

Overall, Curry played 16 seasons in the NBA. Ten of those years were with the Hornets. Additionally, Curry became the franchise’s all-time scoring leader with 9,839 points. Additionally, he leads the league in total regular season games played with 701. In 1994, he was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year.

Ultimately, Curry finished his career with 12,670 points, 2,617 rebounds and 1,909 assists. Additionally, Curry finished his career with 1,245 3-pointers, 929 of which came with the Hornets.

Also during his tenure in Charlotte, Curry led them to four playoff appearances in 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1998.

The Los Angeles Lakers have formally opened the bidding process for a new jersey patch sponsor for the 2026-27 NBA season and beyond. This marks the end of their existing five-year agreement with Bibigo, which began in 2021 and was valued at more than $100 million.

According to a post on X by Arash Markazi of The Sporting Tribune, the franchise issued a press release announcing what was described as a category-defining sponsorship.

“The Lakers are one of the most recognizable brands in the world, synonymous with greatness, championships, style and legacy. There is no doubt that the Lakers’ value starts on the court in the heart of Los Angeles and extends across culture and entertainment to reach people everywhere. The Purple and Gold’s distinctive identity combines legendary history with dynamic innovation, creating moments and experiences that are forever remembered,” Jim Snodgrass, Lakers’ vice president of corporate partnerships, said in a release. The Lakers have only had two jersey patch sponsors since the program’s inception. His first deal with Wish (2017-2021) was worth around $12-14 million annually. However, the Bibigo partnership extended beyond the NBA and included branding across the South Bay Lakers (G League) and the franchise’s eSports division, unlike the agreement with Wish. The upcoming bidding process is also expected to include the South Bay Lakers and other LA affiliates.

The release explicitly states that the move represents the “next chapter” of the franchise’s evolution, citing its broadcast presence in more than 230 markets, hundreds of millions of global fans, and approximately 89 million social media followers. It cited legendary players like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant, as well as current stars like LeBron James and Luka Doncic.

The outgoing Bibigo deal was also historically significant. It was the first South Korean company to secure an NBA jersey patch and was intended to expand the Lakers’ footprint in Asian markets.

His first day back on the ice was Tuesday and he has remained as an extra forward during practice since.

It’s fair to say that Christian Wood didn’t have the best career in the NBA. However, even making it in arguably the toughest league in the world requires a lot of talent and consistent work, and while Wood last played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2023-24 season, he still made an impact during his eight years in the league.

It was a light-hearted moment between two generational big men who clearly share a huge amount of mutual respect despite being rivals in the Western Conference.

While the jersey swap was all smiles, the actual game saw a bit more bite than in recent years. Under the league’s new round-robin format, Vembanyama proved he was not just there for the vibes. The French star led Team World with 14 points and 6 rebounds in the opening matchup against the USA Stars.

The game became a complete thriller, ending in five overtime periods from the first. After Anthony Edwards forced extra frames with a clutch triple, Wembanyama countered with a three-pointer of his own. However, Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors played spoiler, draining a game-ending 3-pointer to secure a 37–35 victory for the Americans.

Vembanyama did not slow down in his second innings of the day. He scored an impressive 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting in a close 48–45 loss to the USA Stripes. He almost forced another overtime, but his last-second attempt from deep fell short as the buzzer sounded.

Jokic, meanwhile, kept things classic, focusing more on facilitating and enjoying the spectacle while playing minimal minutes to manage his health following a knee injury in late December.

Chicago native Matas Buzzelis continues to move forward. The second-year guard for the Chicago Bulls participated in the Rising Stars Game on Friday to kick off NBA All-Star Weekend. In the process, Bouzelis has long-term All-Star aspirations.

Derrick Rose’s desire to go far can be attributed to seeing his jersey retired by the Bulls. According to SiriusXM NBA Radio, during All-Star weekend, Bouzelis reflected on the ceremony and what it meant to him.

“It really put more motivation in my mind,” Buzzellis said.

“It really put more motivation in my mind.”

Rose had his jersey retired after the Bulls’ game against the Boston Celtics on January 24. He is one of four other Chicago players to receive this honor. The others were Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Jerry Sloan and Bob Love.

Currently, Bouzelis is at a point where he is making his mark. Of course, he’s still adjusting to a new dynamic after the Bulls traded seven players during the trade deadline. Those players included Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu and Nikola Vucevic, all of whom played important roles in mentoring Buzzellis in his freshman year.

Right now, the Bulls are 24-31 and in the midst of a six-game losing streak. Also, they have lost 9 of their last 10 matches.

Currently, Bouzelis is averaging 15.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Buzzellis attended Hinsdale Central High School in the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale for his freshman and sophomore years.

Rose is a native of Englewood. NBA All-Star Weekend will conclude with the All-Star Game on Sunday.
