5 Minnesota Vikings edge rusher targets after trading Jonathan Greenard

After months of Minnesota Vikings trade rumors, the front office agreed to send out Jonathan Greenard over draft weekend. While 2024 first-round pick Dallas Turner is set to replace Greenard’s spot in the starting lineup, where he will play opposite Andrew Van Ginkel, the Vikings’ forward depth is undoubtedly thin.

Prior to this, the Vikings had a strong three-man rotation. Behind Turner and Van Ginkel, they have a trio of former undrafted free agents in Bo Richter, Tyler Batty and Chase Chambliss, all unproven players with less than three years of experience. Thus, Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores is likely aiming to sign another pass-rusher before the season starts.

Below, we look at five edge rushers the Vikings could still sign, as they recently did with Jaun Jennings.

Floyd recorded 19 pressures last year, which was actually the fewest in his eight-year career. He only had 3.5 sacks, the second fewest of his career. So, why would the Vikings want him? While the 33-year-old Floyd is coming off a rough season, even those numbers would be respectable as a rotational edge rusher, especially if Coach Flores thinks there’s a chance Floyd can return to top form in 2024 after recording 8.5 sacks. Plus, Kevin O’Connell and Floyd overlapped for two seasons on the Rams, so he already knows what the veteran will add to the locker room.

Still only 27 years old, AJ Epenesa may still have some untapped potential hidden in his bones. He has never recorded more than 6.5 sacks in a season, but he has recorded at least 6 sacks in three of his six playing seasons. This is a respectable track record, considering he has only once started more than two games in a season. The Vikings’ coaching staff may feel like they can get the most out of the 6-foot-6-inch, 260-pound defender.

by miller

The 37-year-old future Hall of Famer has reached his prime, yet Von Miller is still extremely productive. Last season, he managed to record nine sacks despite starting only three games. Plus, he’s already won the Super Bowl once with Coach O’Connell; Who’s to say they don’t want to pair up and aim for another Lombardi Trophy?

Jadeveon Clowney

NFL: Arizona Cardinals at Dallas Cowboys
Jerome Miron-Imagen Images

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft is somehow still only 33 years old, and he’s become a bit of a journeyman, but still a productive guy. Last year, he recorded 8.5 sacks as a member of the Cowboys, despite only making six starts and appearing in 13 games. Clowney also has a very high floor and a high ceiling, having recorded over 20 pressures in each of the last three seasons.

joey bossa

NFL: Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills
Mark Konezny-Imagen Images

Last year, Dallas Turner and Jonathan Greenard tied for the Vikings lead with 24 pressures. This is the same pressure that Joey Bosa generated. Bosa is a five-time Pro Bowler who won’t turn 31 until July. Although he hasn’t had a double-digit sack season since 2021, the Vikings don’t need him to be a superstar; They just need someone who can generate pressure on demand, and Bosa certainly fits the bill.

Jonathan Kuminga on the ‘OG’ Draymond Green Connection

It’s hard to get excited about anything related to Jonathan Kuminga’s reunion with the Golden State Warriors.

Instead of a passionate revenge game full of bad blood and blood, all we got from both sides were hugs and uninspired performances. On one end, we got to see a poor performance from the Warriors as they lost to the Atlanta Hawks 126-110. And Kuminga, on the other hand, went 1 of 9 for two points, four rebounds, two turnovers and a -6 plus/minus in 22 minutes.

Unless you enjoyed Dyson Daniels’ 28 points and the Hawks’ 48-16 run between the second and third quarters, the Kuminga-Warriors reunion was mostly chalk and cheese.

“It felt like a normal game,” Kuminga said at his locker after the game. “I’m excited to see my old teammates and some of my guys there. It was great, and I was happy to see them.”

That happiness was visible when Kuminga spent a lot of time after the game congratulating his former teammates, hugging his old coaches and talking to his past veteran teammates. He talked to Stephen Curry for the longest time, the two had a conversation at halfcourt after the game. And in the locker room, Kuminga gave a shout-out to Draymond Green about a good moment they shared when he first entered the game.

“He’s my vet, he’s my OG,” Kuminga said. “You know me and Draymond have always had a great relationship, a brotherly relationship. We were just hanging out.”

Jonathan Kuminga’s relationship with Steve Kerr

Kuminga even leaned over and hugged Steve Kerr, despite the two having disagreements over his role and fit with Golden State. Kerr has always said that the difficulties in their relationship have always been purely basketball and nothing personal, which he reiterated before the game.

Kerr said, “I like Jonathan. We always got along well.” “The basketball part was the hard part. We couldn’t provide him what he needed, and vice versa. We were a championship team – he really needed a lot of freedom and 35 minutes to make mistakes and grow and learn because he came in with so little experience, and we couldn’t offer him that – the basics.”

How Kuminga feels about their relationship is a little more ambiguous. When presented with a condensed version of Kerr’s comments from above, Kuminga shrugged his shoulders and raised his hands.

Kuminga said, “Hey man, listen – whatever they say, you can take it any way you want.” “I’m not worried about the past. I’m here, I’m very happy where I am. I’m doing great. Our goal is to get to where we want to get, and it comes down to us as a team. And I think that’s my main focus moving forward. Whatever is being said or whatever is going on, it’s not my problem anymore. I’m in the next chapter with my teammates, and we’re trying to build something here.”

Looks like the next chapter is going well so far. Hawks coach Quin Snyder said pregame that Kuminga has tried to fit into what Atlanta wants to do. And what they’ve asked of him is simple, “Defend and run,” Snyder told reporters, adding that Kerr and the Warriors said the same thing to Kuminga during his Golden State tenure.

everyone falls in love in the end

Regardless, while Kuminga and Kerr’s basketball disagreements pushed their relationship to the breaking point, he is still wishing the best for the young forward. As Kerr said, it was never personal between the two. Just an unfortunate situation in which neither side got what they needed.

“We offered him what we could,” Kerr said. “Which was 25 minutes and was a role he didn’t like. And it was never comfortable for either party on the basketball floor… We had our differences in our conversations about basketball, but on a personal level, we’re all here for him. Well-liked in our locker room. And I’m sure people are looking forward to seeing him.”

And based on Kuminga’s warm reception after the game, it looks like the bonds he’s made with Curry, Green and the rest of the Warriors will last even if they go their separate ways.

“I talk to most of them,” Kuminga said. “I try as hard as I can. But we still have great friendships and relationships like they’re my brothers. If they need something I can call them anytime, and if they need something they can call me anytime, so I think that shows a lot. Our relationship is very strong, and at the end of the day we’re brothers.”

Jalen Johnson compares Jonathan Kuminga to a dog

The Atlanta Hawks are on an 11-game winning streak, and that’s due to contributions from several players on the team. One of those players is Jonathan Kuminga, who was surprisingly traded to the Hawks at the deadline. Before Kuminga even took the field for the Hawks, many of his teammates were excited about what he could bring to the team, and once he went out and had a strong three-game stretch, those teammates were validated.

Jalen Johnson has spoken highly of Kuminga since joining the team and in an interview with NBA’s Jake Fisher he compared him to a dog ready to attack.

“His mentality…JK is like a puppy ready to be free,” Johnson said. “You can tell by how he’s working, how he’s going about his days. He’s ready to go. He’s ready to do whatever it takes to win. And show that to the rest of the world.”

When Kuminga was with the Golden State Warriors, it felt like he was on a leash and couldn’t do much, which is why many believe Steve Kerr barely played him.

With the Hawks, it feels like Kuminga has more latitude to make mistakes without getting stretched, and that’s only going to boost his confidence.

When he comes in he gives a boost to the second unit, moves the ball and creates contact in the paint for easy points. Quin Snyder has also given him minutes alongside Johnson, and it will be interesting to see how the pair continues to work as the season winds down.

If Kuminga proves to be an important part of the Hawks and fits in with the team for the remainder of the season, there is a chance they could decline his team option and sign him to a longer contract.

Jonathan Kuminga, Atlanta have ‘mutual interest’ in long-term deal

The Atlanta Hawks have won 11 consecutive games after Wednesday’s win over the Dallas Mavericks. It was a strong game from newly acquired wing Jonathan Kuminga, who scored 16 points in the win, including an incredible shot from almost full court.

Kuminga has had a solid stint in Atlanta so far after being shipped there along with Buddy Hield from the Golden State Warriors in exchange for big man Kristaps Porzingis, and now, more details are emerging on what could happen in the future between Atlanta and Kuminga.

“There is mutual interest between the Hawks and Jonathan Kuminga in declining his 2026-27 team option worth $24.3 million and agreeing to a long-term contract,” former FullCourtPass report on Twitter, citing a report from NBA insider Jake Fisher.

It certainly makes sense why Atlanta would be interested in keeping the former 2021 lottery selection long-term given his youth, athleticism and potential to get even better. Kuminga is a perfect fit for Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh looking to build a team full of athletic wings who can play multiple positions and switch defensively, and the fact that former number one overall pick Zachary Rishachar is back in his second season could make Kuminga’s long-term contract a sensible option for Atlanta.

Meanwhile, the Hawks have risen up the Eastern Conference standings amid their winning streak, now sitting just 1.5 games out of the fifth seed, though some skeptics are pointing to the lack of quality teams Atlanta has played during their streak as a reason not to take it seriously.

The Hawks will get a chance to test their skills against a playoff-caliber opponent on Friday evening when they go on the road to take on the Houston Rockets.

Jonathan Kuminga vs. Mavericks injury report still ongoing

The Atlanta Hawks are riding a 10-game winning streak, and it’s safe to say that they are one of the hottest teams in the league right now. Their next match is against the Dallas Mavericks, who they have already defeated during the streak, but this time they will be on the road. The Mavericks beat the Cleveland Cavaliers just a few days ago, so no matter what their record says, they won’t be easily eliminated.

The Hawks have been fairly healthy during the streak, but Jonathan Kuminga has been in and out of the lineup due to a left knee problem. This is something that has been going on with the Hawks since before he was involved in the trade, and the team is managing it as best it can.

Here are their standings ahead of their game against the Mavericks.

Jonathan Kuminga’s injury status vs. Mavericks

Kuminga is listed as questionable against the Mavericks, meaning there’s a possibility he could suit up. Before his last game against the Orlando Magic, Kuminga was listed as questionable and was able to play. Earlier in the game, where they faced the Milwaukee Bucks, he was listed as questionable but was ruled out.

The Hawks will be trying to give Kuminga as much rest as possible this season so he can be healthy enough come the postseason.

So far, when Kuminga has been on the field for the Hawks, he has been productive and a big help to their second unit. His rebounding and ability to get to the foul line are keys to his success, and if he can continue to do that, he will continue to get significant minutes on the team.

The only thing is he has to stay healthy, which will go a long way in whatever decision the Hawks make regarding his future.

Jonathan Isaac’s MRI confirms knee sprain

Injury problems have plagued the Orlando Magic all season, and on Thursday night, another of their rotation players fell victim to injury problems. Following the Magic’s 136-131 win over the Washington Wizards, an unfortunate incident plagued the team, with Jonathan Isaac suffering a knee injury after being limited to just one minute of game action on Thursday.

According to ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel, Isaac did not return to action and after the game, he underwent an MRI, which confirmed he was dealing with a left knee sprain. Considering the Magic big man’s injury history, it’s very possible the team is being cautious when it comes to his recovery process – leaving his status in doubt for the remainder of the season.

With just a month left until the regular season begins, it’s likely this injury will keep Isaac out of the final 17 games of the Magic’s season. Orlando will probably want to protect him anyway to qualify for the playoffs, as he could be a difference-maker on defense despite his injury history.

Magic requires the next man to step forward

As mentioned earlier, injuries have made the 2025-26 season challenging at times for the Magic. They even nearly lost to a hapless Wizards team that allowed Bam Adebayo to score 83 points. On Thursday, Franz Wagner and Anthony Black, two important members of the team, were still out due to their respective injuries, and now, Isaac has joined both of them.

At the very least, the Magic have solid depth at the big man spots to compensate for Isaac’s absence. Wendell Carter Jr., Goga Bitadze, and Mo Wagner could all help cover his impending absence, while Tristan Da Silva will have all the minutes he can handle.

Is Jonathan Kuminga playing tonight? hawks vs nets injury report

The Atlanta Hawks are currently on a seven-game winning streak, and they are planning to make it eight when they face off against the Brooklyn Nets. It was the win against the Nets that started their streak, and hopefully they can continue it as they try to climb the Eastern Conference standings.

Jonathan Kuminga was able to contribute to wins in some games, but he missed the last three games due to injury. The injury report initially listed him with left knee soreness, but the Hawks recently changed it to a left knee bone bruise, which sidelined him when he was traded.

Here is Kuminga’s position before the game.

Jonathan Kuminga’s injury status vs. Nets

Kuminga is listed as questionable against the Nets, meaning he is likely to play. Additionally, he has been listed as questionable for the last three matches and has been subbed out an hour and a half before each game. It is uncertain how serious the injury is, but it is something that has been bothering him for some time and is affecting his ability to step on the court.

The Hawks were able to see what Kuminga can do when he’s on the field, and he showed a little bit of everything in the three games he played. There is no doubt that Kuminga can be a big contributor for the team, especially during this time of the season, and they are hoping he returns soon.

It would also be nice to see more from him on the front office side of the Hawks so they can determine if they want to accept his option when the season ends so he can come back next year.

Kendrick Perkins calls out Steve Kerr after Jonathan Kuminga trade

Former NBA center Kendrick Perkins criticized Steve Kerr following the Golden State Warriors’ decision to trade Jonathan Kuminga to the Atlanta Hawks.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Road Trippin’ Show, Perkins questioned Kerr’s confidence in Kuminga’s ability after the 23-year-old’s strong debut in Atlanta.

“We knew Jonathan Kuminga’s ceiling was high. Steph Curry knew it, Draymond Green knew it, Jimmy Butler knew it. The only guy who didn’t believe it was Steve Kerr.”

The Warriors dealt Kuminga and Buddy Hield to Atlanta in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis, a move that reshaped Golden State’s roster as it attempts to remain competitive in the Western Conference. Kuminga, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, had shown flashes of his athleticism and scoring ability during his time with Golden State, but often played up-and-down minutes within Kerr’s rotation.

Since joining the Hawks, Kuminga has provided immediate production. Through three games – including one start – he is averaging 21.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 26.7 minutes per contest. He has shot 67.7% from the field, 55.6% from three-point range and 77.3% from the free-throw line during that period.

Jonathan Kuminga’s fast start with Hawks prompts scrutiny of Warriors’ decision

Atlanta has won all three games with Kuminga in the lineup, highlighted by a 135-101 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday. The Hawks improved to 31–31 on the season and are currently ninth in the Eastern Conference standings.

Perkins’ comments show that several prominent Warriors, including Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, believed in Kuminga’s rise. His comments defined the trade as a missed opportunity for Golden State to further develop the youth within their system.

Meanwhile, the Warriors (31-30) have suffered two consecutive losses, including a 114-101 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday after blowing a 17-point lead. Golden State continues to search for stability as it slips in the Western Conference standings.

As Kuminga has had early success in Atlanta, the trade has drawn renewed scrutiny, with Perkins openly questioning whether Kerr had maximized the forward’s role before the organization moved on.

Dominique Wilkins thanks Warriors for waiving Jonathan Kuminga

On Sunday evening, the Atlanta Hawks picked up their fourth consecutive win with a home win over the Portland Trail Blazers. It was another great game for recent trade acquisition Jonathan Kuminga, who scored 20 points off the bench in his third game since joining the lineup.

Kuminga was recently acquired by the Hawks from the Golden State Warriors in exchange for big man Kristaps Porzingis, and at one point during Sunday’s game, Kuminga threw down a dangerous tomahawk dunk, followed by another contested left-handed slam.

After the epic play, Hawks legend and commentator Dominique Wilkins shouted out the Warriors for their role in the Kuminga deal.

“Thank you to the Golden State Warriors. We appreciate it,” Wilkins said. “…How you give up on a young man with that potential is beyond me.”

Making matters more embarrassing for the Warriors is the fact that Porzingis has played just one game in Golden State, suffering from an illness that also plagued him during his brief stint with Atlanta.

Overall, Kuminga fits the Hawks’ vision of building a team of young, athletic wings who can run the floor and push the ball in transition. It should be noted that Kuminga’s three appearances in Atlanta have come against less than stellar competition, but for Atlanta fans who have endured a disappointing 2025-26 season so far, they are glad they have something to cheer about.

There are certainly concerns about having Kuminga, Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels out of the lineup, especially as it relates to the trio’s ability to drain perimeter shots. However, if they can improve in that department, Atlanta could have an interesting young tandem of versatile wings on their hands.

In any case, the Hawks will look to pick up their fifth consecutive win against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.

What led to Jonathan Kuminga’s historic debut with Atlanta?

ATLANTA – In 24 minutes of playing time, everyone was reminded of what Jonathan Kuminga can do when he gets the opportunity to play.

Athleticism. Driving on slopes. Selflessness.

Forget everything that happened in the last months after the Golden State Warriors made the trade. Kuminga always had the skills to make an impact in wins, but at some points he was not given much of a chance to do so. With the Hawks, he will be able to do that, and he showed it in his debut against the Washington Wizards.

His first shot came in transition, when he sidestepped his defender and drove into the lane for a layup. His next production was a dunk in transition. From there, he got into a rhythm and started knocking down three-pointers over defenders.

Kuminga finished the game with 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists. No Hawk debuted with 25+ points in less than 30 minutes.

“I got confidence from my teammates,” Kuminga told reporters after the game. “They told me not to worry about anything. Just go out there and be you. Everything will be OK. I had a lot of people in my ear telling me to go, be you, play basketball. The first two minutes I was just thinking about it, but after that, everything was good.”

Head coach Quin Snyder always talks about the fundamental things the Hawks need to do to win games. Pass the ball, defend and run. Kuminga surpassed all those standards in his debut.

Snyder said, “Things we talked about as a team were obviously a focal point. Playing with the pass, that’s what you’ve heard me say since October, and he really demonstrated it right away to the point where I told him it was OK to shoot, too. But he allowed himself to come into the game, how he connected with his teammates and let the game come to him. I think it shows a lot of maturity on his part and how he feels about the group.” Let’s do it.

His teammates were looking forward to playing with him for the last few days and he did not disappoint them. All four of his assists came in the first quarter, and there were a few chances when he could have taken an open shot, but instead, he sent the extra pass.

“Another guy that’s going to put pressure on the rim, put him in the paint,” Nickell Alexander-Walker said. “His willingness to pass and fit within the system. To have fun with everybody. He was always locked in and vocal throughout the game, so it was good for him to come out and do that.”

The noise that was around Kuminga easily shut down every rumor and every negative report about him in a single night. If there were a statue for smiling, Kuminga would lead the night in that category.

“For people who really know me, all my teeth are out. I’m smiling, I’m laughing all the time,” Kuminga said. “Since I’ve been here, just being with the guys, I’ve developed a bond with them. Good people, good team. We all want to win. Winning comes with joy, so as long as we’re all out there enjoying ourselves, it’ll help us win games.”

This was just the beginning, but it was a good start for Kuminga. For people to really move forward, they just need a change of scenery to become the best version of themselves. It seems like this is exactly what Kuminga needed, and he could be with a team that can help him get to where he wants to go in his career.

Kuminga isn’t going to score 27 points in 24 minutes every game. He won’t have 12 shot attempts. He knows this, but his entire focus is on winning.

“It doesn’t matter if I go out there and hit two shots. As long as it’s impacting us to win, that’s what really matters,” Kuminga said.

Jonathan Kuminga’s tremendous debut will stun Warriors fans

On Tuesday night, Jonathan Kuminga made his highly anticipated debut for the Atlanta Hawks after the Golden State Warriors decided to trade him along with Buddy Hield in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis. And as it (unfortunately) happened, the Hawks’ main man and starting power forward Jalen Johnson had to exit early with a hip injury – paving the way for Kuminga to defeat the Washington Wizards in his first game with his new team.

Kuminga, in just 24 minutes off the bench, scored 27 points on 9-12 shooting from the field, leading all players in scoring in the process. If Johnson were to miss time for the Hawks, Kuminga would be called upon to take on a larger scoring load, and based on early returns, he is capable of doing so for a team looking to establish itself as a playoff team.

As a result of Kuminga’s lackluster first game in a Hawks uniform, some Warriors fans expressed disappointment that head coach Steve Kerr could not make things work in Kuminga’s five seasons with the team, especially after Golden State lost a close game against the lifeless New Orleans Pelicans.

“I’ll never forget what Kerr did to Kuminga,” wrote X user @__pettyhardaway.

“As surely as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, some people are going to say, ‘Well, Kuminga didn’t do it for Golden State…’. Well, I say it, it’s hard to do anything off the bench,” @Rickygreeneyze said.

@klewis1123 added, “I see Kuminga had 27 days for ATL tonight…glad the GS decided he had no real use for that kind of athleticism, scoring or perimeter shooting.”

@RookieHigh reported, “Kuminga with 27 points on 12 shots in just 24 minutes… extremely talented but Kerr wanted to force him to be a corner screen setter.”

“The Warriors could have used Kuminga tonight but at least they have Porzingis… wait… Porzingis doesn’t play…” @NinerGangManny joked.

Jonathan Kuminga’s status upgrade marks first time for Wizards game

The Atlanta Hawks have a chance to get back fully healthy for the first time in a long time, as Jonathan Kuminga’s status has been upgraded ahead of their matchup against the Washington Wizards. Kuminga has been dealing with a hamstring injury since his time with the Golden State Warriors and then joining the Atlanta Hawks and has yet to make his debut with his new team.

With Kuminga now being listed as questionable against the Wizards, it’s a good sign that he’s close to returning to the court.

Last week, the Hawks noted that Kuminga was making good progress from his bone bruise and would be re-evaluated in a week, with an update on his condition.

Kuminga was seen hitting some shots during the Hawks’ practice, which was a good indication of where he can be when he gets on the floor.

Adding Kuminga to the Hawks’ rotation could help improve their wing rotation, and his skill set could open things up for the rest of the team as well. His ability to drive and get into the lane will be key for the Hawks, whether he’s making shots or finding opposing teammates on kick-outs.

The Hawks recently made a lineup change, inserting C.J. McCollum into the starting lineup and moving Zachary Risacher off the bench. Head coach Quin Snyder said after their win against the Brooklyn Nets that the Hawks are better statistically when McCollum is on the floor with Dyson Daniels, Nickell Alexander-Walker, Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu, which proves why they made the move.

With Risacher being a wing, it will be interesting to see how those minutes off the bench are allocated when Kuminga is healthy, and if he can be on the floor at the same time.

Joe Lacob’s ‘couldn’t make it work’ statement Jonathan breaks silence on Kuminga trade

With the Golden State Warriors trading Jonathan Kuminga to the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline, it cannot be denied that it has been a up and down road for the player and the franchise. As fans were expecting the Warriors to trade Kuminga, owner Joe Lacob broke his silence to talk about the deal.

In the trade, Golden State also traded Buddy Hield and received Kristaps Porzingis in return, marking the team’s largest trade as they hope to advance in the playoffs. Lacob Kuminga will speak on the experiment, as his perspective is interesting as he is known to be a big supporter of young players, saying it was “not difficult” to agree to deal with the 23-year-old.

According to The San Francisco Standard, Lacob said, “Everyone believes a lot about it.” “Look, I like him as a player, I like him as a person. … And at times, he showed a lot of potential for us. Just never really worked out to his full potential. And he got injured at an inopportune time.”

Kuminga added, “I think we all knew we had to do something. But we couldn’t just leave it.” “Because he’s a talent, and a lot of people think so. It worked out – we found something we thought was worth doing. Otherwise, we would have kept him.”

Warriors’ Joe Lacob experiment on Jonathan Kuminga isn’t working

While the Warriors were also in Giannis Antetokounmpo talks, the trade with Kuminga and Porzingis was their main deal of the deadline. Kuminga had been with Golden State for five seasons, as Lacob explained how the relationship “didn’t work out.”

“I liked him. I like all of our players. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have gotten them if we didn’t all like them. But you know, it didn’t work out. It looked like it was going to work out. It was going to be that way for a long time,” Lacob said.

The Warriors are looking to improve as their record is 29-27, which will move them into eighth place in the West heading into their next game against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday.

Jonathan Kuminga to miss at least another week after Warriors trade

The Atlanta Hawks made several moves at the trade deadline and in one of those moves, they were able to acquire Jonathan Kuminga from the Golden State Warriors. He did not see much time on the field with the Warriors this season, and although it was mostly due to rotations, he was also injured.

Kuminga has yet to take the field for the Hawks due to his bone bruise and knee hyperextension, and he recently offered an update on his condition.

“Forward Jonathan Kuminga, who suffered a left kneecap injury while playing for Golden State in Dallas on Jan. 22, is progressing in his rehabilitation. He will be reevaluated in approximately a week and an update will be provided at that time,” the Hawks wrote.

Just because Kuminga will be reevaluated in a week doesn’t mean he’ll be back in that time period. There will probably be more standards he needs to overcome before he can get back on the floor, but the good news is that he’s making progress.

When Kuminga is ready to play, he should be a nice addition to the Hawks’ rotation, as he showed during his time with the Warriors that he can use his athleticism to get anywhere on the floor. Unfortunately, his role with the Warriors wasn’t very clear, and it seemed like there was growing tension between the two sides over the past few seasons.

With the Hawks, the hope is that Kuminga can find a consistent role for the remainder of the season, and if he plays well, they may accept his team option and keep him for the future.

There’s a good chance he’ll play behind Jalen Johnson, but there could be some scenarios where head coach Quin Snyder decides to put them on the field together.
