On Friday, it was announced that Jordan Stahl and Jacob Slavin were both recognized for their efforts by the Carolina Chapter of the PHWA, as Stahl was awarded the Steve Chiasson Award, and Slavin was nominated for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.

The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and makes a notable humanitarian contribution to his or her community.

It has been a difficult season for Slavin, who missed 41 games due to injury. However, when he returned, he did so without missing a single opportunity, averaging 21:10 of ice time a night and even earning a spot on Team USA’s Olympic roster, where they won the gold medal.

In recent years, Slavin, along with his wife, Kylie, have used their platform to help those in need, and glorify God in doing so.

During the 2023–24 season, they launched a “Fight for Freedom” campaign with International Justice Mission, where they raised $1,008,535 – surpassing the initial $1M goal. Their campaign raised awareness in the fight against human trafficking and modern slavery and IJM used the funds to combat online sexual exploitation of children.

In the 2024–25 season, they launched another campaign with “The Fight for First”, partnering with Compassion International to help poor mothers and babies, supporting survival centres.

Additionally, Slavins continues to work with local initiatives such as the Raleigh Dream Center and Raleigh Rescue Mission, as well as the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation.

Last season, Florida Panthers captain Alexander Barkov was awarded the King Clancy Trophy for his longtime campaign with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

Jordan Staal wins Steve Chiasson Award

The Steve Chiasson Award is presented annually to the Hurricanes player who best exemplifies determination and dedication while proving to be an inspiration to his teammates through his performance and approach to the game.

Currently in his 20th season, the Hurricanes captain has scored 19 goals (his best since 2017–18). Four of those goals have come on the power play, which he was involved in in early December, playing a key role in reviving Carolina’s man advantage after a poor start to the season.

He has continued his exemplary performance at the face-off dot, where he trails only New Jersey Devils captain, Nico Hischier, in face-off wins this season, and has his second best season on record in face-off wins.

This season, he became the longest-tenured Hurricanes player after transferring, surpassing his older brother Eric Staal who played in most games played in a Hurricanes sweater.

Last season, the award was given to then-Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns.

However, that career high didn’t last long. Spence played 30:48 minutes against the Sabers this week due to an injury to Kleven.

Misrepresentation of Spence’s game

Let’s say it plainly – the Los Angeles Kings were wrong about Jordan Spence. To add to this, Travis Green was wrong about Spence earlier this season, when Spence was a healthy scratch for the first nine games of the season. Spence was placed in a specific role – small-sized, puck moving, defending from deep. The 5’11”, 188-pound Spence was essentially viewed as good enough to play in the NHL, but not good enough, or big enough, to play big minutes. From the Senators’ perspective, think about how Chris Wideman was used when the Senators made the conference finals in 2016-17.

Early in the season, Spence’s play seemed to be in line with the narrative – he scored five points in his first five games, but he was caught off guard late in a game against the Islanders when Anders Lee scored the game winner. Once he showed that he should be in the lineup in every game, Spence showed that he was by no means a soft player. He fights hard and is willing to play a physical game. This season he has 2.47 hits per 60 minutes. By comparison, Artem Zab is at 2.53. Both players will take hits here and there, but they mainly win through intelligence, hard work, and taking the puck out of the player’s possession.

Spence’s next contract

Spence will be a restricted free agent this summer. I think it will be challenging for both sides to work out a long-term agreement. I hope senators don’t want to settle for a short-term deal. Spence can become an unrestricted free agent in 2028. This leaves a four- or five-year deal as a realistic middle ground.

When Artem Zab signed a four-year extension in December of 2022, it took up 5.51% of the cap space. Zub had averaged just over 20 minutes per game in 142 games with the Senators up to that point. Obviously, this gives him a longer track record as a top four D-man than Spence.

Next year’s projected range will be 5.5% of $5.7 million. That’s a bit much, considering Spence has primarily been a bottom pairing D-man. If the Senators consider Spence as a top four D-man, something like this might make sense:

Remember when the Senators traded Erik Karlsson to the San Jose Sharks? One contributor to that trade was Dylan DeMello. DeMelo then played really well here for a year and a half, before Pierre Dorion traded him to the Winnipeg Jets. It was during the rebuild that Dorian felt he needed to acquire as many picks as possible. It was quite clear that DeMelo was undervalued at the time. He was traded for only a third-round pick. He played over six seasons with the Jets as a top-four defenseman most of the time.

Around the same time the Senators took the opportunity to draft Artem Zub out of the KHL. Zub, like Spence, was a healthy individual to begin his time with the Senators. Like Spence, he quickly showed that he should not have been a healthy scratch. He is now in his sixth year with the Sens as a top-four D-man.

My point is this. You keep getting gifts from time to time. The Senators were gifted Dylan DeMelo, but then traded him to the Jets for a disappointing return. The Senators were also gifted with Zab, who was completely unknown in the NHL upon his arrival from Russia. Now they have been gifted Jordan Spence, thanks to the LA Kings choosing to sign Cody Ceci to play on their right side.

The trade of Senators Jacob Chykrun for Nick Jensen did not work out, with Jensen falling short this year. The physical tools are still there, including excellent arm strength and above average athleticism. This would be a riskier No. 2 option behind Love than signing Garoppolo, but there is something even better with Lewis.

Anthony Richardson

The most interesting option for the Packers is clearly Anthony Richardson. In terms of physical tools, he brings even more to the table than Willis. Of course, he has a career 67.8 passer rating with a 50.6 percent completion rate and an 11-13 TD-INT ratio in 17 career games played. If Love is injured for several weeks and Richardson is forced to become the Packers’ starting quarterback, LaFleur will certainly be taking a gamble as the head coach of a playoff contender. There’s also no long-term benefit here, as the fully guaranteed fifth-year option on Richardson’s contract won’t be touched. When he passed Dirk Nowitzki for sixth on the all-time scoring list against the New Orleans Pelicans on January 18, Durant said it was “crazy” to be on the list with a “legend” like Nowitzki.

Durant said, “I want to continue to make a lot of appearances, climb up the charts, just see how I finish. It’s been amazing so far.”

What makes all these late-career accomplishments even more amazing is the fact that Durant has continued to play like one of the best players in the NBA even after suffering an Achilles injury in the 2019 NBA Finals and missing all of the 2019-20 season.

Very few athletes are able to return to the sport they love after an Achilles injury and still remain effective. Not only has Durant done this, but his overall production and value have remained unchanged before and after the injury.

Durant has had one of the most decorated careers in basketball history, especially when you include his Team USA accomplishments at the Olympics, and surpassing Jordan on the all-time scoring list is another reminder of how great KD is.

While Devin Booker sang his praises for Jayson Tatum’s Achilles recovery, Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott made jokes for the Boston Celtics forward.

As a result, this has allowed Ott to experiment and be creative. There may be offensive limitations, but the defensive promise far outweighs any shortcomings on the other end.

For example, they had a lineup at the five on small ball with Royce O’Neal, Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin, Jalen Green, and Fleming.

It’s an extremely small sample size, but that lineup posted an offensive rating of 141.7 and a defensive rating of 100 in just six minutes.

Will this lineup achieve a net rating of 41.7 every time it’s on the court? Probably not, but it’s a good metric to assess and see what the potential might be.

Fleming’s 7’5 wingspan and 9’1 vertical reach make him the ideal small-ball center. Not to mention, his physicality and athleticism far exceeds that of a typical rookie.

Again, the numbers are small, but it seems like Ott is optimistic about moving forward with it based on the scenario.

The Charlotte Hornets demolished the Boston Celtics 118-89 on Wednesday at TD Garden. In the process, the Hornets continued to rise and according to Basket News, Kon Knueppel has officially made NBA history by joining Michael Jordan in an elite club after scoring 20 points.

Although that race isn’t scheduled, there’s something else Knueppel can accomplish that Flagg can’t.

Currently, the Hornets are striving for a playoff spot. If they finish in the top six, they will automatically get a berth. If they finish anywhere between seventh and 10th, they will qualify for the play-in place. The Hornets have not made the playoffs since the 2015–16 season. Their next game will be on Friday against the Miami Heat, the team directly ahead of them in the standings.

Anthony Edwards has become one of the NBA’s 10 best players, and that’s quite an accomplishment for someone who faced so much doubt as a prospect coming out of Georgia. Many thought he would be too distracted and not deeply in love with the game of basketball, but he proved that wrong almost immediately, and developed into a true superstar for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

On Tuesday night, Edwards did superstar things for the Timberwolves; He scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, including 10 straight at one point, to lead Minnesota to a 117–110 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. He finished the night with 41 points on 15-29 shooting, including 7-13 from beyond the arc, as he left the Grizzlies defense helpless.

Decades after his retirement from the NBA, Michael Jordan still has reason to celebrate, as 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick triumphed at Circuit of the Americas, winning the Duramax Texas Grand Prix. Along the way, Reddick became the first driver in Cup Series history to win the opening three races of a season.

Since the NASCAR Cup Series organization is co-owned by none other than MJ, it came with a congratulatory message from none other than Magic Johnson.

It was Reddick’s 11th career Cup win and second overall at COTA. He led a race-high 58 of the 95 laps, controlled the final restart on Lap 79, and defeated one of the field’s best road-course racers, Shane van Gisbergen, who was chasing his sixth consecutive road-course victory. The margin, 3.944 seconds, looked comfortable only on paper. For the first part of the final 16-lap green-flag run, Van Gisbergen was in striking distance of Reddick’s No. 45 Toyota Camry before slowly pulling up the hill into Turn 1.

The win gave Reddick a solid 70-point lead over teammate Bubba Wallace. This means MJ’s 23XI Racing now has three full-time entries and is a legitimate championship contender.

Additionally, Redick’s post-game celebration, during which he raised three fingers, was a direct allusion to Jordan’s iconic NBA three-peat with the Chicago Bulls. Defending race winner Christopher Bell finished third.

Ty Gibbs and Michael McDowell rounded out the top five while Hendrick Motorsports fielded Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott in sixth and seventh. Regardless, this win shows the intent of 23XI Racing, which includes players like Bubba Wallace (No. 23), Riley Herbst (No. 35), and Reddick (No. 45).

The transition from starter to reserve can be a tough adjustment for anyone, especially for a rookie point guard on a 19-43 rebuilding team. Unfortunately for Jeremiah Fears, James Borrego is working in a crowded backcourt while making a case to keep the full-time job. Thankfully, Dejounte Murray and Jordan Poole have helped the former Oklahoma player find value in a new perspective as the New Orleans Pelicans move into the final stretch of an otherwise lost season.

With Murray and Trey Murphy III healthy and available, Fears couldn’t complain about being the odd man out. However, after making 44 starts in 62 games, it meant learning a new rhythm and routine. What’s important to having a strong All-Rookie season?

“Being able to make adjustments on the fly, getting out there, getting a feel for the game early. Seeing my first shot, letting my teammates continue to lift me up,” Fears confessed. “Credit to them, credit to the coaches for trusting me and making the right plays. I had too many turnovers (against the Los Angeles Clippers), but I’ll definitely watch film and try to learn from it.”

Learning some lessons that provide a ray of hope moving forward is all that is left for the Pelicans. DeAndre Jordan has served as the bench coach for three young veterans who have come in and out of the lineup. Yves Messi, Karlo Matkovic and rookie Derrick Queen have taken it in stride with an eye on development and the next impressive game.

Instead of getting angry, Fears took the advice of two guards who started their careers on the bench. Those bonds have helped the rookie deal with everything that comes with being a professional.

“Talking to Dejounte, talking to Jordan Poole. Just asking questions, continuing to learn and they’re giving me some really good advice in the game of basketball, on and off the court,” Fears shared. “So, to be able to take the advice they give me and continue to translate them to the court.”

The most important advice is to stay true to yourself during difficult times. Authenticity and heart are everything at this level. Fear has to direct the flow in some ways, go with it in others, until it finds what works.

“Just keep playing my game. I think that’s huge. They’re telling me to keep playing my game, do what I do to be the point guard on the floor,” Fears explained. “You have to be able to talk, lead your teammates, put them in the right positions and most importantly continue to play my game. And I think listening to them and listening to the advice they’re giving me, I’m doing that every game. I think it’s working for me.”

The Pelicans have won three of their last five, but with the Western Conference playoff picture out of reach, the focus remains on development. Regardless of the final record, Fierce finally looks ready to run the show. Until then, winning a sixth Man of the Month award should be a goal. Borrego understands this well. Showing his ability to come off the bench while leaning on vets or yelling at them will be a major storyline in the final weeks of the season.

On Sunday, Tyler Reddick made NASCAR history by becoming the first driver since 1949 to win the first three races of a season. This Duramax came to the Circuit of the Americas at the Texas Grand Prix. His car owner Michael Jordan was sitting next to him.

The original image was taken after Game 6 of the 1993 NBA Finals. The Chicago Bulls defeated the Phoenix Suns in a tough six-game series for their first three-peat. At the time, the Bulls were the first team in NBA history to win three consecutive championships, following the Celtics’ 1960s dynasty.

A year later, Jordan had a bat and glove in his hand while playing for the Birmingham Barons in Minor League Baseball. In 1995, he came back, and by the next season, the Bulls were on top again. From 1996 to 1998, Jordan and company achieved their second three-peat.

Jordan co-owns 23XI Racing with NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin. In addition to Reddick, Bubba Wallace drives the No. 45 Toyota Camry. Riley Herbst drives the No. 35 Toyota, and Corey Heim is a development driver.

Reddick is coming off wins in the Daytona 500 and next weekend’s Autotrader 400.

Jordan has been involved with 23XI Racing since 2020. Overall, he has won 12 races. Most recently, Jordan was heavily involved in an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR regarding its charter system. Ultimately, a compromise was reached, whereby team owners were granted permanent charters.

For a Pelicans team that is beginning to find its stride in the Western Conference, Fears’ development as a skilled playmaker is a huge win. If he can continue to accumulate double-doubles while avoiding the referee’s whistle, DeAndre Jordan will have a lot more to be proud of.

The Air Jordan 3 “True Blue” will follow in line with the OG version from 1988, featuring a similar silhouette shape and classic Nike Air branding on the rear heel. The colorway comes in a distinctive White/Cement Grey-True Blue scheme, complete with the iconic elephant print along the mudguard, back heel panel and eyelets. Hits of red are seen throughout for perfect contrast and balance against the white leather base.

The NBA world saw one of the greatest players in history hang up his sneakers last weekend when Chris Paul officially announced his retirement from professional basketball. From his stellar debut with the New Orleans Hornets to his final full season with the San Antonio Spurs, the guard who quickly became known as “CP3” finished his NBA career as arguably the greatest point guard of all time.

Chris Paul spent six full seasons with the LA Clippers franchise, from when he was traded to Los Angeles in 2011 until he was traded to the Houston Rockets in the 2017 offseason.

Of the 249 teammates Chris Paul shared the floor with during his 20-year NBA career, no one played more games with Paul than former Clippers All-Star center DeAndre Jordan. The two played 406 regular season games together in addition to 53 playoff games. The two had a .658 winning percentage, going 302–157 together in those 459 games.

Paul announcing his retirement in the middle of All-Star weekend was somewhat of a surprise, given that the guard was looking for a team to play for and was ending his NBA career. But no team formed and Paul decided to call it quits.

Just weeks after his former teammate announced his official retirement, DeAndre Jordan shared a touching message on Instagram on Friday.

“Can’t believe I’m making a retirement post for your old man! I still remember when we found out we were getting CP3 and the “Lob City” run was born. It still feels like yesterday. Some of the greatest years of my life.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your amazing basketball career! You have won countless accolades and done a lot for the game. However, the greatest achievement that I have seen in you is your love and dedication towards your family.

DeAndre Jordan was the full-time starter for the Clippers when Chris Paul arrived, but under head coach Doc Rivers, became a 34-minute-per-night player for the Clippers starting in the 2013–14 season. From the 2023–14 season where he played with CP3, Jordan averaged 11.8 points, 14 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game while being named to his first NBA All-Star team in the 2016–17 season. Jordan was also a two-time rebounding champion, a three-time All-NBA selection and a two-time All-Defensive Team selection.

The Air Jordan 4 silhouette was introduced in 1989 following Michael Jordan’s first MVP season. Looking to make a statement with the debut of his signature sneaker line, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield has designed a hybrid-based sneaker with several cutting-edge design elements not seen on previous sneakers. The shoes were an instant hit and remain a particularly popular silhouette in the numbered series.

Seeing retro returns in 1999, 2008 (Countdown Pack), 2012, 2019, and a “reimagined” leather look in 2024, the familiar “Bred” (meaning, black and red) continues to hold up as one of the best colorways to release. Early reports and mock-ups suggest that the 2026 release will stay true to the OG release of the ’90s.

The fan-favorite Air Jordan 4 “Bred” scheduled for 2026 will now feature the OG specs from the original pair released in 1989. The shoe will follow the same OG shape with black nubuck panels along with subtle white contrasting edges. The classic Black/Fire Red/Cement Grey/White ensemble will also return with the classic Nike Air branding on the back heel.

An added bonus: Nike plans to bring back the 2001-2005 Jordan “Face” box, a touch of nostalgia for fans who remember stacking sneaker boxes emblazoned with Jordan’s face.

The Air Jordan 4 OG “Bred” is expected to release on November 27th, 2026 at a retail tag of $220. The shoes will be available on the Nike SNKRS app and will come in a full family of sizes with adjusted pricing, but early reports indicate that stock will be extremely limited in nature. Signed as a Jordan Brand athlete, Banchero is always first in line to rock his PE (Player Exclusive) featuring the latest Jordan technology. Recently seen in the Air Jordan 4020, the sneakers perfectly match the vibrant green of the rubber bands used by Banchero during his routines. Painted in a clean white and neutral gray base, we see green on the rear heel, outsole, and most notably the oversized strap along the midfoot.

Making a splash in the new PE, Banchero averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and eight assists en route to a 111-109 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Clearly, both the pre-game stretching and the sneakers paid off, but we’re not sure if this colorway will release to the public yet or remain exclusive to the former Rookie of the Year.

In a story by ESPN’s Baxter Holmes, Nike’s creators originally intended to link the “Black Mamba” nickname to Michael Jordan. While Jordan is widely known as the “Black Cat” for his jaguar-like actions on the court and multiple sneaker colorways with the nickname, the Mamba concept was born while developing the Air Jordan 19 sneakers.

Michael Jordan wanted a new concept for the 19th sneaker in his signature collection, leading a design team to invent the first laceless basketball sneaker. The weave locking system resembled snakeskin, so the creative team came up with the idea of ​​branding Jordan as “The Black Mamba”.

The Phoenix Suns’ post-All-Star break season begins Thursday. But before any game time action gets underway, I went ahead and answered a few questions about the remaining 27 games.

Does the Suns’ Jordan Ott have a claim to NBA Coach of the Year?

Perhaps I’m pushing this narrative too far, but it’s not because of overt bias. Much of it comes from the nature of the work, how the players have responded and the adjustments made to correct any mistakes.

The first three games of the season showed some concerns, even though there were obvious asterisks. Playing back-to-backs in Denver and then flying to Phoenix wasn’t easy.

Defense was the main issue, as they allowed 129, 133 and 138 points respectively in their first three losses. As soon as that happened, it seemed like everyone was on the same page.

Lots of winning streaks, and ultimately bragging rights, allowing the fifth fewest points per game. Other than Dillon Brooks, they do not have any All-NBA defenders on the roster.

Constant ball pressure, constant communication and high basketball skills are stable. However, much of it comes from faith, and this is something he emphasizes.

Even Suns general manager Brian Gregory gave Ott a glowing evaluation during the All-Star break. Not to mention, he’s easily the biggest surprise, and that could put him ahead of guys like JB Bickerstaff and Mark Dagenault.

The backend of the season will indicate how close he is to securing the award. If this goes like the first half of the season, Ott may face a loss.

How do you see Jalen Green’s role progressing or regressing in the closing stages of the season?

This question will definitely attract the interest of many people. Only playing seven games is a concern, but his return has come at the right time.

This was just before the All-Star break, giving him some time to adjust physically. Given that he is a bona fide athlete and slasher, turning off the mental side was a necessity.

Green even said he felt “almost 100%” after attempting a dunk on Daniel Gafford during a game against the Dallas Mavericks. All this suggests that he is ready to go.

But then the question is, what will be his role?

As evidenced by when he was on the field, and according to the words of head coach Jordan Ott, he will lead the second unit when the starters come out.

Green’s dynamic scoring and playmaking adds a layer to a scrappy and defensively strong group. If the game gets tight he will still be with the starters.

The yin and yang effect between him and Devin Booker is too good to ignore. He’s also another scorer to worry about if you’re on the defensive side. The more offensive weapons on the floor, the better.

When the time is right, Green’s confidence in his body will translate to his performance on the court. And in time, he’ll work with anyone, but he’ll be the secondary (and maybe primary) puncher that Suns fans have come to expect.

What part of being an NBA player is the most mentally exhausting that fans have ever seen?

I can’t speak for the players because I’m not around them 24 hours a day. But when I’m around them it’s quite impressive. They are always working, practicing and doing everything they can to become 0.0001% better than they are.

A lot of the things I see have to do with situations at game time. Whether it’s being late to the shot-clock or simply learning to work in isolation, there is an answer for every situation.

Additionally, players often stay after practice for additional work. Devin Booker, rookie Rasheer Fleming and Mark Williams are some examples of them.

Some of this is also related to the media. I like to think that we’re relatively unbiased, but it can be tiring to hear some of the same things asked over and over again.

For example, when Dillon Brooks picked up his 16th technical foul for the Suns, the media had to ask burning questions. Fortunately, a trusting relationship is the key.

The players know that we have work to do and we are not attacking directly or trying to hint at something. It may be that way, but most of the time, it is not.

Constantly being there, not being afraid to ask tough questions, while also treating them as human beings with feelings and perspective, is what helped me walk that fine line just as carefully.

The fragment design, created by streetwear designer Hiroshi Fujiwara, first teamed up with Air Jordan in 2014 to create a simple yet iconic black/white/blue design. To date, the original pair fetches over $1,500 on the resale market, forming the basis for Fragment’s upcoming work with the Travis Scott line.

Los Angeles-based Union, founded by Chris Gibbs, first collaborated with the Jordan 1 in 2018 with their popular deconstructed ‘Piece-Together’ take on classic colorways. Mixing and matching each OG colorway of the Jordan 1, high-end pairs run around $1,500, even on the aftermarket.

Already released exclusively in Los Angeles during the 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend, the highly anticipated collaboration between the two known brands will have a global online release in the coming weeks.

The “Varsity Red” colorway first released on February 14 via Union Los Angeles and select Fragment showrooms a week earlier on February 7. Just today, Nike confirmed a wider release of the colorway via the Nike SNKRS app, giving global access to the hyped release at a retail price of $205. This pair is slated for a February 27th, 2026 release and should come in fairly limited numbers in full adult sizes.

An early bird raffle for the second “Black/Navy” pair is already underway, with select entries given early access to the pair on February 18th. A wider Nike SNKRS release has not yet been scheduled for this release, but expect one to follow the “Varsity Red” closely.

初步報告表明，2026 年版本在形狀、材料和配色方案方面將與 1985 年元年版本保持一致。鞋面全部採用優質皮革製成，雙縫線與尼龍鞋舌相得益彰。中板、擋泥板、踝領和鞋帶均採用黑色。鞋頭、後跟板、翻蓋、Nike Swoosh 和外底均採用令人驚嘆的寶藍色，與鞋舌上的“Nike Air”標籤相匹配。
