Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo made headlines after dropping 83 points in their win over the Washington Wizards at Cassia Center on Tuesday. Adebayo immediately became the biggest story in sports, as many were in disbelief at his unique accomplishment.

Even the GOAT, who has chosen to stay away from the spotlight, took notice.

Many congratulated Adebayo for setting the second-highest scoring game in league history, but arguably the most important of them was none other than NBA legend Michael Jordan.

In an interview with ESPN, Adebayo revealed what Jordan told him during the five-time MVP contacted.

“Just congratulations. Very brief. Short and sweet. You know Mike. He’s not talking much,” Adebayo said.

When “his alter ego” moves forward to welcome you, you definitely know you have done something special.

Jordan is quite familiar with Adebayo, as Adebayo is one of the top endorsers of Jordan Brand. He even wore yet-to-be-released Air Jordans against the Wizards.

Some people decried Adebayo’s crazy act. NBA icon Robert Horry said it should have an asterisk because Adebayo shot 43 free throws and “didn’t respect the game.” Meanwhile, Philadelphia 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. claimed that Adebayo was not efficient in scoring 83 points.
Others said Adebayo was merely stat-padding.

However, it cannot be denied that the 28-year-old Adebayo has achieved a rare feat. He still had to make those shots and put in the work. No amount of criticism will erase the fact that Adebayo has rewritten history.

Plus, it already has the Jordanian seal of approval.

Everything Michael Jordan touches turns to gold, even beyond his playing years. Their NASCAR team is off to a historic start, which is just one example of this.

This dynamic was evident at a recent auction, where his historic first cover on Sports Illustrated sold for a record $229,360, according to Black Enterprise’s Cedric ‘Big CED’ Thornton.

This cover is from 1983 when Jordan was at the University of North Carolina. This includes him and his Carolina teammate Sam Perkins. Ultimately, the record sale came through a Goldin auction.

The sale surpassed the previous record set by another Sports Illustrated cover featuring Jordan in 1984, which sold for $126,000 in 2023.

Furthermore, the auction described the cover as a launch pad for everything else.

“Before Jordan’s 1984-85 Star rookie cards. Before his 1986-87 Flyer RCs. Before his “Star Is Born” debut SI cover in a Bulls uniform. Yes, before any of those iconic MJ masterpieces, when His Airness still wore Converse at UNC, there was this Sports Illustrated issue, with this “No. 1″ cover, which featured Jordan Marked the beginning of the billion-dollar business of collectibles.”

In 1983, North Carolina began the season as the No. 1-ranked team in the country. Last year, they won the NCAA Championship 63–62 over Georgetown, culminating in Jordan’s winning basket in the final seconds of the game.

Subsequently, Jordan became College Player of the Year twice in 1983 and 1984. Although he never won another national championship, Jordan left his mark on Chapel Hill.

In 1984, he declared for the NBA draft and won a gold medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. That year, the Bulls drafted him as the third pick in one of the most consequential drafts in NBA history.

Michael Jordan parted ways with Sports Illustrated in 1994

In 1994, Jordan was playing minor league baseball. At the time, many criticized his decision to step away from basketball at the peak of his career and try a sport he had not played since adolescence.

One of them was Sports Illustrated.

The breaking point was their March 1994 cover story titled “Bag It, Michael”, written by Steve Wolf. Essentially, Wolf said that Jordan and the Birmingham Barons were disrespecting the game.

From that moment on, Jordan never spoke to Sports Illustrated.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards reacted with appreciation after hearing a message of encouragement from NBA legend Michael Jordan during a recent interview shared by the league.

As the Timberwolves prepare to face the Orlando Magic on Saturday at 2:00 pm ET on Prime Video, the NBA released an interview between Edwards and longtime broadcaster Ahmad Rashad in which Rashad recounted Jordan’s thoughts about the young guard.

Rashad began the conversation by discussing Edwards’ playing style and the attention he gets from opposing defenses.

“There are very few people who enjoy the way you work. One of them is Michael Jordan. Now, Michael Jordan recently talked about how being double-teamed by you is a sign of respect. Did you know that?”

Edwards replied simply.

“Yes.”

Rashad then revealed that he recently spoke to Jordan and shared the Hall of Famer’s message about Edwards’ continued development and mentality.

“I talked to him yesterday and we talked about you. And he said, he loves the passion on both sides that you have. He said you need to continue to improve your game and accept challenges and move forward. And he knows you’re the type of person that has that determination. It’s great. [that] Isn’t it? To make that man your fan?”

Edwards smiled as he accepted the praise from the six-time NBA champion.

“Sure.”

The Timberwolves guard also recalled early conversations with Jordan before entering the league.

“He came to the gym before I got drafted in Minnesota, my pre-draft workout.”

Anthony Edwards is coming off career-best season after Michael Jordan praise

Jordan’s comments come as Edwards continues to establish himself as one of the NBA’s brightest young stars. The 24-year-old guard has continued to improve his game since being selected first overall by Minnesota in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Now in his sixth season, Edwards is producing the most efficient campaign of his career. He averaged 29.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game, while shooting career-bests of 49.5% from the field and 40.6% from three-point range.

In 53 games this season, Edwards has played 35.6 minutes per contest and has emerged as the focal point of Minnesota’s offense while continuing to develop as a two-way presence.

His production has helped guide the Timberwolves to a 40–23 record, placing the team among the top contenders in the Western Conference standings. Minnesota has also maintained strong momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season and enters Saturday’s match on a five-game winning streak.

Edwards’ leadership has played a central role in the franchise’s recent success. The Timberwolves have reached the Western Conference Finals in each of the last two seasons and will look to compete deep in the postseason again.

As Minnesota continues its push toward the playoffs, Edwards has focused on building his game while acknowledging the challenges Jordan referenced in his message. The Timberwolves will look to extend their winning streak when they host the Magic as they look to make another deep run in the postseason.
