The Seattle Seahawks have a large vacancy at the starting running back spot. However, on Wednesday he met his potential replacement in Kenneth Walker III, who has one accomplishment on his resume that the reigning Super Bowl MVP does not: a trip to the Pro Bowl.
The 2025 NFL season was a magical year for the Seahawks. Sure, they were expected to be competitive, but few thought they would be good enough to reach the Super Bowl, let alone win it. However, that’s exactly what he did last month against the New England Patriots.
Yet, success also brings imitation as rivals seek to borrow something from Seattle’s winning method. When super MVP Kenneth Walker III received a three-year, $43 million deal from the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency, the Seahawks lost a notable portion of their winning streak.
While the running back wasn’t an elite player at his position, he has been a difference maker for Seattle since arriving as a second-round pick in 2022. Therefore, his exit leaves a notable hole in the backfield for the Seahawks.
Seattle Seahawks meet Najee Harris
The assumption by many is that they will want to address this issue internally or on Day 2 or 3 of the NFL Draft. However, a new report suggests they are in talks with a very good replacement option ahead of free agency. “Los Angeles Chargers free-agent RB Najee Harris visited with the Seattle Seahawks today,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
Harris is a one-time Pro Bowler who has rushed for 1,000 or more yards in every season of his career except 2025. Unfortunately, his campaign ended early last year after suffering an Achilles tear in Week 3. It’s not surprising that injury is the main reason he remains in free agency even after April shut down.
If Harris can be close to the player he was for the first four years of his career, he brings in similar stats to Walker III, but should probably come in at a slightly more reasonable rate.
