One of the greatest tag teams of this century, the Motor City Machine Guns, is now a free agent. The former TNA, ROH, NJPW and WWE Tag Champions were surprisingly included in over 20 of World Wrestling Entertainment’s releases last weekend. However, they will not remain on the open market for long.
Both are at the end of their “wrestler prime”, Fightful reported that TNA Wrestling will welcome both of them home with open arms. However, many in the company expect him to move his talent to AEW when his 90-day non-compete clause expires.
Before the rumored move to All Elite Wrestling, let’s take a look at five matches we need to see this summer with the legendary tag team.
The Young Bucks

This is an absolute must if the Motor City Machine Guns vs. The Young Bucks joins AEW this summer. Sure, the two teams faced off a decade ago, but they were all very different back then. Although they were top teams at the time, they are now viewed as perhaps the two best tag teams of the last decade and a half.
The pairing is still going to be the high-level performer that all AEW fans need.
ftr

FTR remains the No. 1 team in AEW and has never faced MCMG. Although they have different styles, FTR has proven time and again that what makes them so great is their ability to blend in with all types of pairings. As the current AEW Champions continue to build their legacy, it makes sense to aim for a victory over “your favorite tag team’s favorite tag team.”
The Hurt Syndicate

If MCMG is to move to AEW, he will need to face another interesting duo, the Hurt Syndicate. Guns is known for his fast-paced style and innovative tag moves. Well, Syndicate is all about brutality – punching you in the mouth – with force. These four wrestling legends, combining their different approaches to tag wrestling, could deliver many show-stealing moments in 2026.
face and cage

While they’re still around, it would be awesome to see the duo of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage – FKA Edge and Christian – take on the Motor City Machine Guns. This will be a longtime dream match that will turn into reality. The pair would go down as two of the 10 best teams in the history of the industry.
With Copeland nearing retirement soon, AEW needs to make this a historic match.
Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland

Yes, we know, Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland rarely tag, and the latter has returned as a heel this year. However, when in the ring together as enemies or partners, Ospreay and Strickland make magic. If somehow they can get into the same side again next year, they will be pitted against MCMG.
This is a matchup that some people never imagined could become an absolute wrestling classic sometime in 2026 or 2027.
