Rumor reveals 2 possible landing spots for Jason Kidd after Mavs firing, including West rival

After he was surprisingly fired by the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night, a new report has revealed a pair of teams that may soon request an interview with the Hall of Famer.

Before the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers square off in a wild Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals inside Madison Square Garden, the Mavericks dropped a bombshell on the basketball world when reports surfaced that they had fired their head coach after five seasons.

Kidd led the team to the NBA Finals two years ago, and despite having four years and $40 million left on his contract after signing an extension through 2024, NBA insider Marc Stein claims that the new Mavs head of basketball operations, Masai Ujiri, wanted a “clean slate” after taking the job a few weeks ago.

It now means that a respected head coach, who was a great player as a player, is available to NBA teams, with or without an opening. Still, it’s quite possible that the 53-year-old takes a break and waits for the first opportunity to emerge after stints with the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks and Mavericks.

Could the Magic and Trail Blazers make Jason Kidd their next coach?

If he does interview, Steen pointed to a pair of teams that would make sense as landing spots for Kidd — first, the Orlando Magic. An NBA insider claims the team had serious interest in Kidd ahead of the 2021 season. And the same top decision-makers — head of basketball operations Jeff Weltman and top adviser John Hammond — who loved him then still hold those roles.

Another possible option for Kidd may surprise some people. “Kidd also has a long-standing relationship with Tom Dundon, the new owner of the Portland Trail Blazers, who has deep ties to Dallas.” The billionaire made his fortune in Big D, and the 10-time All-Star is a basketball legend in the city. So it makes sense that they have crossed each other’s paths over the years and formed a friendship.

Possibly the biggest obstacle to Kidd going to Portland is that all reports claim Dundon is looking to hire a new head coach on the cheap. The former Mavericks head coach is probably well out of his price range. However, with $40 million still coming his way, Kidd might be willing to take a discount for a friend and take a Trail Blazers team with a good young core.

Mavs’ Cooper Flagg returns to Duke for new love interest and She Can Ball

It seems Cooper Flagg loves his alma mater, Duke, so much that he’s finding a new love interest at school.

Over the past few years, Flagg has been winning big in life. Three years ago, he was the most sought-after high school player in the country. He then parlayed his success into a massive void deal with college basketball powerhouse Duke in 2024 and leading them to the national championship game.

Last year, he was taken No. 1 overall in the NBA draft. And while the Dallas Mavericks had a rough season during his NBA debut, the 19-year-old looked like a future superstar. Led the Mavs in points (21.0) and steals (1.2) and earned 2025–26 Rookie of the Year honors.

As a teenage millionaire the world is truly his oyster, and he certainly has countless suitors who would love to know about Dallas and be seen with the new NBA star. However, this week it was confirmed that Flagg has a new girlfriend, and it’s not an actress, supermodel or social media influencer.

On Thursday, Ariana Roberson surprisingly confirmed the relationship between herself and Flagg in a new TikTok post, which showed the pair having a little fun over the holidays. What’s interesting about the couple is that Flagg is a Duke alumnus, while Roberson, 20, currently plays for the women’s basketball team.

Flagg posted a separate Instagram Story late last night that took things a little further and showed the pair in a lip lock.

Roberson was a five-star recruit out of Texas who earned McDonald’s All-American honors as she led Clark High School to a state title. Playing just 18 minutes during his first season, the 6-foot-4 player averaged 8.0 points, 5.7 boards and 1.3 blocks per night. She’ll certainly play an even bigger role in her sophomore season.

Brook Lopez makes NBA history in Mavs clash

Brook Lopez made history during the Clippers’ Saturday matchup against the Dallas Mavericks. López set a career milestone, becoming the tenth player to score 18,000 points and 2,000 blocks. But what’s even more impressive is that he is the only player in NBA history to score 18,000 points, 2,000 blocks and 1,000 three-pointers.

The feat is notable for López, who is in his eighteenth season in the league. Recently Lopez did an interview of endscape Mark talked about doing whatever he can to help Spears and the Clippers win.

“I’m ready for whatever my team needs from me,” Lopez said. “That’s always been my approach throughout my career. And obviously, the same applies here. I’ve been doing the same thing regardless of my role. So, I knew I would definitely be ready. I knew whenever the time came I would be ready, ready.”

Brook Lopez is known for revamping her game by adding the three-point shot. Midway through his career, López attempted only 31 three-pointers during his first eight seasons in the NBA, but he quickly transformed himself into one of the better three-point shooting big men in the association.

In an interview with The Athletic in 2022, he explained why he added three-point shooting to his game as he talked about his summer routine that ultimately supercharged his three-point shooting mechanics.

“We just realized we wanted to get better,” Lopez said in the article. “Finally we took the time. ‘Okay, we’re trying to get better? How do we do that?’ We’re playing a lot on the perimeter, that’s where we can help the team improve.

Lopez’s shooting ability and his defensive ability are important elements in the Clippers’ winning puzzle.

The team has undergone a massive turnaround after a 6-21 start. They are now 34-36, ahead of the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament as the ninth seed.

With the win, the Mavs became the first Charlotte 2025-26 team to accomplish the feat.

The Charlotte Hornets continued their dominance with a 117-90 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night, becoming the only team in the NBA this season to record five consecutive wins by at least 15 points.

According to ClutchPoints, Charlotte’s latest setback capped a remarkable string of decisive wins during her recent surge. The Hornets have defeated five straight opponents by double-digit margins of at least 15 points, a feat no other team in the league has accomplished during the 2025–26 season.

The run included a 27-point win over the Mavericks, as well as 16-point wins against the Portland Trail Blazers, 24 points over the Indiana Pacers, 32 points against the Chicago Bulls, and 17 points against the Washington Wizards.

Charlotte’s recent success marks a dramatic change from earlier in the season. The Hornets were 13–25 after a close 114–112 loss to Indiana on January 8, a point that proved to be a turning point for the team.

Since that loss, Charlotte has improved in the standings, improving to 31–31 and climbing to ninth place in the Eastern Conference. Climbing back to the .500 mark represents the franchise’s first return to an even record since the opening week of the season, when the Hornets started 2–2 before a 144–117 loss to the Miami Heat on October 28.

Hornets look to extend streak of dominance against Celtics

The recent streak has been fueled by strong defense and balanced scoring, which has allowed Charlotte to consistently pull away from opponents and maintain control in the second half of games. The Hornets’ ability to string together several solid wins in a row has established them as one of the hottest teams in the league entering the final stretch of the regular season.

Charlotte will look to build on its momentum Wednesday night when it travels to face the Boston Celtics at TD Garden. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm ET.

Boston enters the matchup with momentum. The Celtics (41-20) have won three straight games, including a 108-81 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night in Giannis Antetokounmpo’s return from a lengthy calf injury.

With both teams on winning streaks, Wednesday’s contest will give Charlotte another chance to extend its historic win streak, as well as continue its lead in the Eastern Conference standings.

Blizzard grounds Brooklyn’s plane to Atlanta, could threaten Mavs matchup in Brooklyn

Tuesday’s Brooklyn Nets-Dallas Mavericks matchup at Barclays Center is in question because of a historic blizzard that hit the Northeast.

Following Sunday’s loss to the Hawks, the Nets’ plane will remain grounded in Atlanta until Monday, according to league sources. Brooklyn plans to fly to New York on Tuesday morning, weather permitting.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are stuck in Indianapolis after defeating the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.

“[Monday] It’s going to be a long day,” Jason Kidd told Mavericks team reporter Eddie Safeko. “We can’t go until the evening and there’s no guarantee. Hopefully we can get out. But Brooklyn is in Atlanta and in our seat. “Hopefully there will be a game because I don’t know if we can make another game on our schedule.”

The Mavericks had already postponed a matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this season, which was scheduled for March 31.

Tuesday’s matchup will have significant implications for the NBA’s tank race.

After four consecutive losses, the Nets (15-41) have regained sole possession of third place in the draft lottery standings. They are tied in the win column and two behind the second-place Indiana Pacers (15-43) in the loss column. The New Orleans Pelicans (16-42) and Washington Wizards (16-40) are in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Meanwhile, Dallas is also fighting for a top 10 spot. The Mavericks had lost 10 consecutive games before Sunday’s win over the Pacers. Due to a leg injury, Cooper has not been able to play in the last three matches of the flag team.

Dallas currently sits seventh in the lottery standings, 1.5 games ahead of the eighth-place Memphis Grizzlies and 2.5 games behind the sixth-place Utah Jazz.
