“Tottenham need to switch mentality”

Tottenham Hotspur defender Christian Romero
Tottenham Hotspur defender Christian Romero

With Christian Romero openly admitting that things are far from ideal for them in North London, Tottenham Hotspur head into the crucial phase of the season.

Spurs are hovering just above the relegation zone, and the pressure is building ahead of their clash with Sunderland on April 12.

At the same time, Roberto De Zerbi has just arrived as the club’s third manager of the campaign, following the short-lived tenures of Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.

That chaotic backdrop gives added significance to Romero’s latest comments, broadcast here from Argentina hailWhere he addressed both his personal situation and Tottenham’s wider struggles.

The defender first made it clear that this is not a comfortable moment for him:

“To be honest, I’m not really having the best time there. But beyond everything, I have to correct myself, I have to focus on the club now.”

Nevertheless, he immediately shifted the focus back to responsibility, and stressed that the situation at Tottenham demands full commitment.

“I need to switch to the Tottenham mentality, try to get out of the bad situation we are in and, as I always do, give my all in every training session, every match, and try to move forward.”

There is a sense of duty in those words. As a captain, Romero is not distancing himself from the fight, even if his long-term future appears to be moving in a different direction.

summer exit on tottenham skyline

Cristian Romero has already been promoted leaving tottenham At the end of the season. Therefore, these comments come in a context where both players and clubs know that a separation is possible.

Spain’s interest remains strong. Atletico Madrid He has been monitored for a long time real Madrid Will continue to be mentioned as a serious option.

Both clubs are looking to get stronger defensively, and Romero’s profile suits their needs. The player himself recently admitted this He would ‘love’ to play in La Liga.

For Tottenham, this creates a tricky scenario. They are banking on a player who will be preparing for his next step while fighting to avoid relegation.

Immediate focus for Spurs

Christian Romero’s words underline the reality that Tottenham are dealing with. There is frustration, instability and uncertainty all around the team.

Plus, Romero knows that no matter what happens in the summer, he has to perform now.

De Zerbi would demand exactly the same. The Italian comes with the task of quickly stabilizing the team, and will need to fully mobilize his most experienced players.

For Spurs, there is little scope for distraction. Existence comes first. Everything else, including Romero’s future, can wait a few more weeks.

Should relegation be inevitable, the Argentine defender is even more likely to be on his way out.

How Bronny James’ mentality in the G League helped his NBA tenure

The Los Angeles Lakers are just a few weeks away from the playoffs and have won nine of their last 10 games, including a 137-130 win against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Nearly everyone on the team is playing at a high level, led undoubtedly by Luka Doncic, who has averaged close to 40 points in his last 10 contests, LeBron James and Austin Reaves.

One player who is benefiting from the Lakers’ surge is Bronny James. He may not be able to perform in big numbers like his teammates, but his confidence in his game has increased.

The young James said his stint with the South Bay Lakers in the G League has been a big factor continual improvementAs the OC Register’s Benjamin Royer reports.

“I like to go out there and play my game and be as aggressive as I can, so that when I get these minutes here, I’m comfortable playing with Luka, Braun, AR and everybody else,” the 21-year-old guard said.

In 12 games with South Bay, he averaged 15.3 points on 54.6% shooting, 3.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals.

Lakers coach JJ Redick will be the first to point out that young James, who is on a two-way contract, has been playing remarkably well recently.

“He has a lot of confidence right now,” Redick said in a video posted by Royer.

“He’s had a great season in South Bay. He’s been the best player every time in our stay-ready games the last three or four weeks. There’s a bounce in his step right now. It comes from that confidence.”

The second-year playmaker, whose athleticism and defensive skills also earned praise from Redick, contributed four points, one rebound, one assist, two steals and one block in 13 minutes off the bench against the Pacers.

Nickel Alexander-Walker reveals the mentality that led Grizzlies to victory

ATLANTA – At this point in the season, every win matters for the Atlanta Hawks. It doesn’t matter who has been in front of them in the month of March, but for the most part, they have been able to take care of business and try to give themselves a chance to make the playoffs.

This time, the schedule featured the Memphis Grizzlies, whom they defeated 146–107. The Grizzlies have suffered a lot of injuries and roster turnover during the season, and despite coming into the game with a 24–46 record, they are still competing.

For Hawks, the task was simple, and to take care of business as usual.

“As a group, we’ve been professional,” Nichelle Alexander-Walker said. “That’s what it’s all about, doing your job. It doesn’t matter who they put against you. We were very conscious of who we were playing against tonight.”

“At the end of the day, these are the 450 best players in the world and the Grizzlies are dealing with a lot of injuries,” Onyeka Okongwu said. “There’s a lot of guys in and out of the lineup, so those guys are getting opportunities. They’re all working hard, and you’ve got to respect that. We’ve still got to do what we do and take care of business at the end of the day.”

The Hawks struck first to start the game and they continued to punch until the clock struck zero. Whether it was Alexander-Walker’s 26 points, Zachary Rishachar’s team-high eight rebounds, or CJ McCollum’s nine assists, they did everything they could to get the win and the Hawks treated this game like any other.

“One thing I learned is that if you lose to a team like that, it’s bad. If you beat a team like that, it’s like, ‘You should do this,'” Alexander-Walker said. “You don’t really win in that situation. You have to kind of break out of the noise, and you have to be professional.

“It’s my job to play the game, it’s my job to work hard, and it’s my job to try to win and do what I need to do for the team. Everybody came out to do that tonight, and I think that’s been a consistent thing that’s shown over time.”

There has been a lot of talk lately about the maturity of this team, and it has shown over the past month or so. They’re sticking to the game plan and coming in with the same mentality every night.

“I think it’s a collective thing where guys are putting the team first,” Quin Snyder said. “That’s where we have to be focused, and when that happens, we’re crashing the offensive glass, we’re sharing the ball, getting into the lane, breaking into the paint. Focusing on defense, I think, is the most important thing. When you see everybody bought into that, it says a lot about the guys in our locker room.”

Things will not be easy for the Hawks in the next few games, as they will face the top two teams of the Eastern Conference, the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics. They know the importance of those games, but as long as they keep doing what they’ve been doing throughout the month, they’ll give themselves a chance to win.

Bronny James reveals ‘bucket’ mentality amid Lakers-G League shuffle

As a rookie last season, Bronny James’ plan was always to spend plenty of time with the South Bay affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers in the G League.

Now in his second year in the NBA, it’s been a similar story for him. James played in 18 games for South Bay last season, and he’s tied for 18 games this year with less than a month left in the regular season.

Based on the Lakers’ depth chart, there doesn’t appear to be much room in the rotation for the second-year guard. It always made sense that he was going to get more opportunities to develop his game in the G League.

As Bronny James juggles the shuffle between the Lakers and South Bay, one of the things he’s working on is trying to find a balance between finding his shot and being a playmaker for his teammates. At the urging of both Lakers head coach JJ Redick and South Bay head coach Zach Guthrie, James has focused on finding his shot when the opportunity arises.

“They always tell me they want me to be as aggressive as possible and try to score,” James told ClutchPoints in an exclusive interview. “That’s been my mentality all the time now. If they give it to me, I’ll take a bucket. If not, just put it back in space and make a play. Not really thinking too much and just playing basketball.”

This work is in progress. As a point guard, James has a natural penchant for moving the ball and getting his teammates involved. Last year, he averaged 4.6 assists per game while in the G League. This season, he has slightly less than four assists. During his first two games with South Bay, he posted back-to-back games of eight assists.

This was followed by a streak of seven games where he averaged 5.3 assists per game. With the Lakers, James has had two games with six assists this season. He walks a good path for all players trying to become a successful guard in the NBA. It’s all about finding your shot, and finding the right balance between keeping the offense humming and getting scoring opportunities to your teammates.

“I think it’s just staying aggressive. I’m looking for my shot first and if the defender comes in front of me, I make the pass,” James said. “Just play your game and experience the defense while the game is going on.”

While opportunities with the Lakers are few and far between, there is ample playing time available for James in the G League. By mid-March, he had appeared in 18 games with South Bay, equal to his total appearances from the previous season.

His average has been 13.3 points, which is less than 18.6 points a year ago. Their total number has decreased slightly; 3.0 rebounds compared to 4.4 and 3.8 assists compared to 4.6. But their efficiency has improved. James is shooting 48.7 percent from the field, up from 41.9 percent last year. And his 3-point efficiency has gone from 33.6 percent to 34.4 percent.

It’s a balanced approach for James, which is a byproduct of the game being slow for him, as well as playing with a talented South Bay team.

“Yeah, I would say so. We have a lot of talent on our team so it’s an easy job for me,” James said. “I’m trying to do everything I can to win, whether it’s getting buckets or facilitating or playing defense.”

One way James’ time with South Bay has helped his development is the chance to play with his ‘be ready’ Lakers teammates in live game action. He has suited up with Edou Thirou, Dalton Knecht, Kobe Bufkin, Drew Timme, Chris Mannon and Nick Smith Jr. This group often scrimmages against each other in ‘Be Ready’ games after Lakers practice.

This is a group that doesn’t often see the court on a regular basis in the NBA, but playing together with South Bay gives them an opportunity to build togetherness and implement what the Lakers’ coaching staff wants to see from their development.

“I like to get my teammates involved because they’re all really talented and they can get buckets,” James said. “So I don’t have to be the only one trying to score the whole game. It’s definitely an easier job when I’m playing with them.”

Bronny James’ outlook on the rest of the season

While the Lakers certainly aspire to make a strong showing in the NBA playoffs, South Bay has emerged as a contender itself once the G League postseason begins. They recently set a franchise record of 12 consecutive wins, and they hold sole possession of first place in the G League’s Western Conference standings.

James is likely to play a much bigger role in South Bay’s postseason run than the Lakers, provided he is deployed when the G League playoffs begin at the end of the month. He’s already looking forward to a possible partnership with the group.

“We’re ranked No. 1 in the Western Conference right now,” James said. “We’re on a winning streak, and I think we can go very far in the playoffs. Do whatever it takes to win. I think it’s good for my development.”

The G League Finals are set to conclude just before the NBA Playoffs begin. Should South Bay get that far, it’s probably safe to assume James will be on the roster. And then he’ll be back in time for a potential playoff run with the Lakers.

And no matter which team he is with, he will bring his same winning mentality.

“I think it’s just coming out and doing whatever the coach needs. If I came back to the Lakers, it would be the same thing,” James said. “Just playing a role and excelling at it. I have different roles on both of my teams, so whatever it is, just doing it at a high level.”

Erik Spoelstra reveals ‘go for it’ mentality despite injury problems

MIAMI – The Miami Heat are trying to make a playoff run with 20 games left in the season, entering Thursday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, the team is once again dealing with injury problems. It may sound strange to fans, but it’s true that the Heat are aiming to avoid the play-in tournament this season, as head coach Erik Spoelstra talked about his approach to injuries.

As mentioned, Miami has battled a myriad of injuries over the past several seasons, leading to endlessly different starting lineups and rotations, which can lead to endless frustration and an inability to properly evaluate the quality of a team.

Given the current situation, the team’s leading scorer, Norman Powell, suffered a groin sprain and has been labeled “week-to-week”, having already missed the last two games without a schedule. Nikola Jovic continues to miss time with a back injury and Simone Fontecchio was forced off the field late on Thursday with a groin injury, adding to the problems.

Especially with Tyler Herro getting back into rhythm after missing a total of 45 games this season, Spoelstra will talk about the approach of “going for it” but also being “responsible” with health.

“We’re going for it. So I know this time of year, everybody is dealing with something,” Spoelstra said. “We want to be responsible, that was the case with Norm and Simo [Fontecchio]And hopefully, if you get things going early and you really attack it with rehab, it might be short term, but then there will be other cases that we just have to go for it and play big minutes for our main guys, I’m starting to do that anyway.

As Herro finds the Heat star taking on an even bigger role without Powell, injuries have gotten in the way of the two being on the same court together and working on their chemistry. The two have only played 12 games together this season, making it a small sample size for their production together, but with the mystery of when Powell’s groin injury will heal, Miami will have to make do.

Entering Thursday’s game against the Nets, the Heat were one game behind the sixth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers, the spot they needed to finish at least to avoid the play-in tournament. However, with only two and a half games separating the sixth and 11th seeds in the East, anything can happen, with Miami on fire due to the pressure.

“I love the pressure for this group,” Spoelstra said. “I think we really need that pressure to get into second gear. And there’s going to be a lot of pressure in these games. There’s going to be a lot of clutch games, close games, a lot of emotions in these games, you know.”

Spoelstra added, “I know we have a lot of competitors in our locker room, and I’m counting on us to bring out a better version of ourselves.” “We have everything we need. We’ve got a high-powered offense, we’ve got a very good defense, defensively as good as anybody in the league. But we need to put it together, especially in moments of truth.”

At any rate, after Thursday’s outing against Brooklyn, the eighth-seeded Heat have to play a crucial game against the ninth-seeded Charlotte Hornets, separated by a game and a half.

Haslem calls Ayton a ‘loser mentality’ after Capela’s comments

On paper, Deandre Ayton has enjoyed a great start to life with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 12.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in 53 starts. Dig deeper, however, and the cracks begin to appear, mostly due to flaws on defense and Ayton’s refusal to become a role player on a roster loaded with offensive talent.

This was very evident in Ayton’s “They’re trying to make me Clint Capela” comment, which has drawn some harsh criticism from Miami Heat legend Udonis Haslem.

“For Deandre Ayton, we’re talking about buying in. That’s a losing mentality. If that’s what’s required of you to put your team in a position to win a championship, then you’ve got to buy in and do your part,” he said, according to a post on X by ClutchPoints, suggesting that Ayton needs to be more open to his team’s needs.

The Lakers need the No. 1 pick of the 2018 draft to become a rim-running, screen-setting center and play a less offensive role with primary scorers like LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

“I played with the Big 3, the other 12 of us didn’t have the role we wanted. Only three guys had the role they wanted. Everybody else had to fill a gap and play their role to get wins. And you’re no different than Deandre Ayton. Play your role and get your ring or not,” Haslem concluded, referencing his time playing with Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and LeBron James.

With Doncic orchestrating the offense and LeBron continuing to serve as one of the league’s most productive creators even early in his career, Los Angeles doesn’t need additional post-up scoring from its center. Instead, the offense requires vertical spacing, offensive rebounding, rim protection, and efficient finishing near the basket.

However, Ayton has a plus-minus of -65 since the All-Star break, primarily due to an erratic style of play with regular defensive lapses. His two-point performance against the Phoenix Suns also earned applause from Capela, who urged Ayton to be locked up because his team had two of the game’s best floor generals.

Needless to say, as Haslem has claimed, Ayton may need to embrace his new role with the Lakers, especially given the overall production their Big-3 is currently producing.

Durant’s Team USA chants ‘racist, victim mentality’ according to Williams

Kevin Durant’s recent comments regarding the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and the differences between USA Basketball and European basketball have sparked a huge debate. Durant previously claimed that the criticism against the AAU was a veiled attack on the notion that “black Americans” control the game, and that there was no real reason for the criticism other than arising from racist tendencies.

However, Stephen A. Speaking to Smith, Jay Williams launched a passionate tirade against Durant’s comments, claiming that they represent a racist, victim mentality, according to a post on Ax by ClutchPoints.

“The first argument was about AAU basketball, which is a completely different argument than the Black American thing. I think anytime you bring up race like that, it hijacks the conversation and takes it away from the starting point. It felt a little bit like a racist, victim mentality and it concerned me a little bit because I think criticizing a development system is not a criticism of a race. And we’re talking about development systems for Americans,” he said before mentioning several legends. Who have also talked about the differences between the European approach compared to the United States approach.

For example, Kobe Bryant previously claimed that in the United States, players are initially taught athleticism, with European schools prioritizing basketball IQ and skill. Bryant did not conclude that the European method was correct and was merely speaking on the differences between the two schools.

Williams said, “The thing that really bothered me about the comment is that we’ve heard American players talk about it for a long time. Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, 2015 Kobe Bryant literally said that European players are taught to play the right way.”

The logic is simple. Williams believes that the criticism, or differences, between the two schools do indeed exist, and that the former players’ argument has never been about proving that the European method works better. Instead, when Durant suggested that the criticism was simply a result of racist tendencies, he was removing the real logic behind the argument.

Williams explained, “He never said European players were better… I felt like when KD said things like that, it seemed a little careless… Black history should never be reduced to a month, it should be American history.”

While KD, undoubtedly a serial winner, may have actually jumped the gun by bringing racism-related discourse into the argument, Williams is merely pointing out that the difference between the two schools of basketball is there for all to see.

“Working on my mentality” – Newcastle United player locked in for the rest of the season

joelinton
Leverkusen, Germany – December 10, 2025: Joelinton, Ibrahim Maza – UEFA Champions League, Bayer 04 Leverkusen vs Newcastle United Match at BayArena.

Newcastle United moved one step closer to the Champions League knockout rounds this week, and Joelinton made sure his return did not go unnoticed.

The Brazilian midfielder scored in Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Qarabag in the play-off, a result that sealed Newcastle’s place in the last 16. This was a timely contribution. Joelinton missed six matches due to an adductor injury and recently returned to action.

Talking to Brazilian outlets globo esporteHe explained how important the goal felt after being sidelined for weeks.

“This is a very important goal for me, a goal that gives me even more confidence in my return after injury,” He said. “I was out for a while and that’s bad for any player, so it was a complicated moment. I had to work on my mentality and focus on getting back to the best level.”

How confidence is returning at a crucial juncture

Joelinton’s statistics this season underline his importance to Eddie Howe’s team. He has made 32 appearances in all competitions and scored six goals – two in the Premier League, two in the League Cup and two in the Champions League.

However, a recent injury disrupted his form at a crucial point in the campaign. Newcastle United are fighting on multiple fronts, and his physical presence in midfield is central to their balance.

Therefore the timing of his return matters. Newcastle are now waiting to know whether they will face Chelsea or Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League. The draw will take place on Friday.

world cup inspiration in the background

joelinton
Kallang-Singapore:27July2025-Joelinton #7 Newcastle players in action during the Football Festival between Newcastle and Arsenal

There is also a personal motive driving him in the final months of the season.

Joelinton’s last Brazil call-up came in October 2025, when Carlo Ancelotti selected him for friendlies against South Korea and Japan. Since then, he has not featured for the national team.

He admitted that he was aware that the chances were diminishing ahead of the World Cup.

“I know we are in the final stages of call-ups for the World Cup and I have a dream to be there, to wear the Brazil shirt and represent my country. So I know everything I do at the club can reflect that. To maintain a high level of performance, I focus on giving my best every day in training and in matches.” He concluded.

That new focus is good news for Newcastle United. Fully fit and motivated, Joelinton raises the level of the team, and of course he wants to deliver. If he can maintain this form throughout the tournament, it will not only boost his European ambitions but also strengthen his case for a return to the Brazil team.

Jalen Brunson stresses need for ‘New Year’ mentality after loss to Pistons

New York – The New York Knicks have a complicated relationship with the Detroit Pistons. The young Pistons group completed their 2026 regular season sweep of the Knicks on Thursday night, bringing both teams back to similar circumstances from last season, which culminated in a first-round playoff win for New York. However, team captain Jalen Brunson no longer wants to rely on last year’s results.

“It’s a new year,” Brunson told reporters at Madison Square Garden after the Knicks’ 126-111 loss.

The young Detroit group, led by a jumbo playmaker and consisting mostly of serious specialists in defined roles, is reminiscent of the New York squad led by Julius Randle. But, to borrow Jay-Z’s paradox in his early 2010 rap masterpiece, Brunson has helped transform these nicks from “underpaid” to “overrated” in recent years.

It is believed that New York is closer than ever to the championship. But Cade Cunningham’s Pistons are lovable underdogs who upset the NBA hierarchy with surprising road wins. And on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks contenders were caught at the beach.

The Pistons were missing Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart, both of whom were suspended after a fight with the Charlotte Hornets. It didn’t make much difference to Cunningham. His 42-point, eight-rebound, 13-assist performance overshadowed Brunson’s 33 points, six rebounds and eight assists on 60% field goal shooting.

Detroit’s regular season success did not help them in last year’s playoffs against the Knicks. But these pistons seem to work with larger cylinders. The proverbial engine of their offense, Cunningham, has leveled off. With this he can take his teammates to even greater heights.

The Knicks have work to do before the end of the season if they want to repeat last year’s playoff results against teams like the Pistons. They have reached the required heights many times, but often step back after reminding themselves that they can do the same.

Bridges ends another close game on the Knicks bench

Thursday’s loss to the Pistons was another close game that Mikal Bridges watched from the bench. The Knicks made only eight of their 35 attempts from behind the 3-point arc, with only four different players getting shots to fall. Brunson and Landry Shamet were the only two Knicks to score more than one, each knocking down three times during the 15-point loss.

Two of the 3-pointers made by Shamet came in the last eight minutes of the fourth quarter, when he was on the court in place of starter Mikal Bridges. It’s important for the versatility of the Knicks’ scheme that starters like Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns don’t mind being benched in favor of red-hot role players. But head coach Mike Brown said Shamet closed out on Bridges because the team needed to score. It wasn’t a strong endorsement of the two-way wing who signed a four-year, $150 million extension with a player option for the 2029-30 season.

“Landry hit some shots. We needed to score. They’re both really good guards. And so I stayed with Landry. But it wasn’t like, ‘Oh, I’ll sit Mikal because he’s not doing that, or he’s not doing that.’ We were looking to score points. And Landry was the only guy to make a shot from behind the arc, the coach said through some nervous laughter.

A key part of the Knicks’ journey this upcoming postseason will be striking a balance with respect to the participation of their star players — and what they bring to the table in games where shots aren’t being funneled their way. While the Browns made it clear that the late-game benching was not Bridges’ fault but a situational adjustment, it is on Bridges to give the coaching staff no choice.

Bridges did not ask to be traded for five first-round picks. He didn’t force the Knicks to offer him $150 million and a player option. But the ball is in the 29-year-old’s court as to how he chooses to respond to this adversity. His confession after the game in Toronto was a great start. New York can’t afford to be this outlier.

Giannis reveals championship or bust mentality amid trade drama

Giannis Antetokounmpo said he is still committed to the Milwaukee Bucks, a sentiment that could potentially change when it comes to the offseason. As the Bucks retain Antetokounmpo ahead of the trade deadline on February 5, the star will be asked about his mindset regarding an integral decision regarding his future with the franchise.

In an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Antetokounmpo said he would not want to stay in Milwaukee and would never have the feeling of winning a championship. Continuing to say that he wants to win a title with the franchise, he would consider it if “it’s not on the table or in the plans.”

“The most important thing is I want to win a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks and if it’s not on the table or in the plans, that’s when you’re like, ‘Okay, maybe I have to move on,’ because I really want to win,” Antetokounmpo said.

In the same interview, Antetokounmpo talked about how “committed” he is to the Bucks and how “extremely loyal” he is as a person.

“To this day, I’m committed to the Milwaukee Bucks, I’m committed to the people I work with, my teammates, the coaching staff, Coach Doc [Rivers]and john [Horst] In the front office…you’ll never hear me say I don’t want to be a Milwaukee Buck. I’m a winner, and I’m extremely loyal,” Antetokounmpo said.

At any rate, it remains to be seen what happens with Antetokounmpo and his future with Milwaukee, as there will be a number of teams that pursue the team in the offseason. Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo looks to help the Bucks as the team is currently 23-20, placing them in 12th place in the Eastern Conference as they face the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday.
