As disappointing as the end of their 60-win season was, the Pistons have a good young core and will be a force in the East for years to come. However, if they want to be taken seriously as title contenders next season, they will need to make some bold moves to improve the roster this summer.

If they can re-sign restricted free agent All-Star Jalen Duren to a new deal that isn’t close to max money, they will have to aim for more offensive punch on defense with the addition of top star Cade Cunningham.

Whether it’s a superstar, All-Star, or impactful role player, here are 10 players the Pistons should target this offseason.

CJ McCallum

The Atlanta Hawks found out how valuable graybird CJ McCollum can be after trading for him during the season. He emerged as a team leader and strong secondary scorer. During the playoffs, he became the leading scorer when Jalen Johnson buckled under postseason pressure.

The Pistons don’t need him to be a top scorer, but the 34-year-old could be perfect as another option behind Cunningham, and he should come at a reasonable rate in free agency.

The Pistons need more offensive punch off their bench or next to Cunningham in the backcourt. Another interesting option would be Portland Trail Blazers veteran Anfernee Simmons. Although he bounced back a bit last season, the 26-year-old is a player who has averaged more than 20 points a game twice during his career and is a legitimate three-point threat.

Since his value is lower than it was a few years ago, Detroit may be able to get him for a much cheaper rate in free agency.

giannis antetokounmpo

There is no doubt that the Pistons will be linked to the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade chase this offseason. If healthy, the combination of Cunningham and the two-time NBA MVP could be a major problem for every other team in the East. And Detroit could certainly make a good business proposition.

However, the bigger question is, will Trajan Langdon mortgage his future to make such a bold move on an aging player who has developed real injury concerns?

Eleven-year NBA veteran Norman Powell has quietly emerged as one of the better scoring forwards in the game after two seasons averaging over 21 points a game. The first-time All-Star is a free agent and will certainly get a nice raise this summer.

Powell would be a notable upgrade over Tobias Harris and would give Detroit a No. 2 scoring option that opponents should respect without giving up draft assets in a trade.

Michael Porter Jr.

Michael Porter Jr.’s seventh season in the league was a career-best year. As the No. 1 option for the Brooklyn Nets, he posted 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals a night. Staying healthy has always been the forward’s biggest issue, but he’s still only 27 years old and on an expiring contract.

Although he won’t come cheap and may be a rental, the trio of Cunningham, Duran and Porter could be finals contenders next season.

If Langdon looks to build a deep roster around Cunningham and Duren, another free agent to keep an eye on is Chicago Bulls veteran Coby White. He is an impact scorer off the bench or in the starting lineup after averaging 15.4 ppg over his seven-year career. He’s only 26 years old, he should arrive at a reasonable rate, and he’ll be a very good veteran player this offseason.

Trey Murphy III

When casual fans think of the New Orleans Pelicans, they assume Zion Williamson is their top star. However, due to his injury problems, Trey Murphy III has emerged as the No. 1 scoring option in NOLA. But that hasn’t been good enough to bring them out of the bottom of the standings, which is why the Pelicans may consider a trade this summer as they continue their rebuild.

While it could cost him at least two first-round picks in a trade, if Langdon wants to move forward with a combination of Cunningham and Duren, the 25-year-old Murphy III could be a third of the title contenders in the next few years.

If the Detroit Pistons are willing to be risky, two-time All-Star Ja Morant could be acquired without giving up any meaningful draft picks. That’s how much his value has diminished due to his trouble staying healthy over the last few years and being off the court during that time.

However, if any player could benefit from a change in landscape and get back to his typical ways, it would be Morant. If Detroit can keep the 26-year-old healthy and focused, Morant could help form the best backcourt in the NBA with Cunningham.

peyton watson

Denver Nuggets veteran Peyton Watson is going to attract a lot of interest in free agency this summer. The 2025-26 season was a success for the 23-year-old, as he posted just 15 points and five boards a night while shooting 41% from three.

If Langdon is looking for a third building block that he can develop alongside Cunningham and Duren, Watson would be at the top of his free agent wish list.

Domantas Sabonis

The sleeper target for the Pistons this summer could be three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis. The Sacramento Kings were unable to find a trade for him before the trade deadline and are certain to acquire him again this summer. However he is owed a lot of money and due to a torn meniscus his price will probably be nowhere near what it was a few seasons ago.

The combo of Sabonis and Duren in the front court for a few seasons, as they dominate the boards, will be an approach that former rivals will have difficulty coping with.

NASCAR’s silly season is just a few months away and, while Michael McDowell isn’t one of the biggest names being talked about, the veteran driver believes he knows who will be his successor.

Speaking to reporters at Watkins Glen, McDowell called Tristan McKee “the real deal” and believes he will be the one to take over driving the No. 71 car for Spire Motorsports when McDowell retires.

At the beginning of the year, McKee was ranked 14th among the top NASCAR prospects in 2025 by Bob Pockross of Fox Sports. He became the second-youngest ARCA winner at Watkins Glen in 2025, just two years after he became the youngest driver to win in the CARS Tour Pro Late Model division.

Notably, McKee won’t turn 16 until August. The Virginia native has already raced in the ARCA Menards Series and ARCA Menards Series East, but although he is a rising star in NASCAR, he still needs to prove himself at the Truck Series and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series levels.

Realistically, Mackie is at least three years away from getting a chance to ride full-time in the Cup Series and even that timeline will be longer.

Investigating Michael McDowell’s future in NASCAR

McDowell, who will turn 42 in December, clearly has no intentions of retiring in the near future. The longtime Cup Series driver intends to remain behind the wheel of the No. 71 for several more seasons, but that doesn’t seem possible either.

Part of the problem for McDowell is the disappointing results. His last win came in the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard in 2023. What’s more troubling for Spire Motorsports is that their results are getting worse every year.

In 2024, McDowell achieved seven top-10 finishes with six pole positions and 256 laps led, finishing the season with a 14.58 average starting position and 21.31 average finishing position. A year later, McDowell led only 96 laps with six top-10s and two poles, and his average starting position dropped to 15.69.

The situation has become even worse in 2026. Through 11 races, McDowell ranks 23rd in points (189), 18th in average starting position (19.0) and 24th in average finishing position (21.5).

Spire has made it clear in recent years that it wants to become one of the top teams in the Cup Series. Carson Hocevar, who scored his first Cup Series win at Talladega, is emerging as a superstar, and Daniel Suarez is enjoying a breakout year in his first season with Spire.

McDowell is undoubtedly the worst performing driver at Spire Motorsports at the moment. Ultimately, if his contract expires after the 2026 season, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if Spier decides to find someone else to drive the No. 71 car next year.

This statistic placed him in the top 10 of the all-time scoring list, placing him in sixth place. He trailed Jordan by 32,292 points for fifth place, needing 25 points to tie him and 26 points to overtake him.

Durant accomplished the incredible feat in 37 minutes of action. He finished with a stat line of 27 points, three rebounds and three assists. Kevin Durant, how the Rockets played against the Heat

Kevin Durant is proud to be in the top five of the all-time scoring list as one of the best in NBA history. Beating Michael Jordan in the Rockets’ win over the Heat was the best.

Five players, including Durant, scored in double figures for Houston in the win. Amen Thompson came up with a solid performance of 24 points, 18 rebounds, four assists and one block. He made 10 of 17 shots overall, including 1 of 1 from downtown and 3 of 3 from the charity stripe. Reed Shepard was next with 23 points and 14 assists, Alpern Sengun had 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Jabari Smith Jr. provided 13 points and four rebounds.

Houston improved to a 43–27 record on the season and finished fourth in the Eastern Conference standings. They are above the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves, while trailing the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs.

The Rockets look forward to their next matchup while on the road. They will take on the Chicago Bulls as tip-off takes place on March 23 at 8 PM ET.

Very few players can match the accomplishments that Jordan accomplished during his illustrious career, which is why this is such a great accomplishment for Durant. Already known as one of the most lethal scorers in NBA history, Durant now has a top-five scoring rating to back up that claim.

After passing Jordan for fifth on the all-time scoring list, Durant will now look to pass Kobe Bryant’s 33,643 career points, potentially moving him into fourth place sometime during the 2026-27 season. Karl Malone (36,928), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), and LeBron James (43,241 and counting) are likely out of Durant’s reach at this point in his career.

Jordan was considered by many players during the Durant era to be the greatest player in league history, including the 16-time All-Star. That’s why Durant is still surprised to see his name next to all the greats of the game, including Jordan.

“It’s great to be in the same category as some of the greatest players to ever play this game,” Durant said recently, via NBA.com. “He has added so much to the game that has inspired me to stay for so long.”

When he passed Dirk Nowitzki for sixth on the all-time scoring list against the New Orleans Pelicans on January 18, Durant said it was “crazy” to be on the list with a “legend” like Nowitzki.

Durant said, “I want to continue to make a lot of appearances, climb up the charts, just see how I finish. It’s been amazing so far.”

What makes all these late-career accomplishments even more amazing is the fact that Durant has continued to play like one of the best players in the NBA even after suffering an Achilles injury in the 2019 NBA Finals and missing all of the 2019-20 season.

Very few athletes are able to return to the sport they love after an Achilles injury and still remain effective. Not only has Durant done this, but his overall production and value have remained unchanged before and after the injury.

Durant has had one of the most decorated careers in basketball history, especially when you include his Team USA accomplishments at the Olympics, and surpassing Jordan on the all-time scoring list is another reminder of how great KD is.

Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. has been diagnosed with a left hamstring strain and will be reevaluated in 2-3 weeks, the team announced Thursday. Porter has missed Brooklyn’s last three games with an ankle sprain.

The 6-foot-10 forward felt discomfort in his hamstring during Wednesday’s workout. An MRI revealed a strain that would sideline him until the final weeks of the season.

Porter is having a career-best season as Brooklyn’s No. 1 option. The 27-year-old is averaging a career-high 24.2 points on .463/.363/.859 shooting splits in 52 appearances following his trade to the Denver Nuggets.

The Nets are 3-14 in games Porter has missed. They have recorded the NBA’s worst offense over their last four games and have sidelined veteran forwards. Igor Demin and Deron Sharp have also been out during that period after opting out of the season.

Brooklyn is averaging 95.3 points on 39.3 percent shooting from the field and 32.0 percent from three over its last four games. Jordi Fernandez scored 24 points during the first half of his team’s 121-92 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday.

The Nets are in the midst of a heated draft lottery race. They are in third place in the lottery standings with 13 games remaining. Brooklyn has one win less than the fourth-place Sacramento Kings, one more than the third-place Washington Wizards and two more than the first-place Indiana Pacers.

With two matchups against the Kings before meetings with the Wizards and Pacers, the Nets have the easiest remaining strength in the NBA.

The Brooklyn Nets have been without Michael Porter Jr. for the last four games, and now they are going to be without him for a while longer as he deals with a hamstring injury.

So, it’s tough because wins matter in the NBA. You have to compete and play to win. “It happens, and it didn’t happen.”

After a solid start, Brooklyn’s rookie backcourt of Nolan Traore and Egor Demin has struggled. However, Sunday’s collapse highlighted the late-game shortcomings of Michael Porter Jr. as the Nets’ No. 1 option.

Meanwhile, Hawks star Jalen Johnson took the lead down the stretch, scoring 14 of his 26 points in the final frame on 6-of-8 shooting.

While Porter has long fueled the Nets’ offense, he has struggled as a closer. In 65 clutch minutes this season, the star forward has shot 12-of-38 (31.6 percent) from the field and 4-of-24 (16.7 percent) with two assists and four turnovers.

Porter’s limitations as a ball-handler and self-creator have been most apparent during tight games, when defenses are most busy and primarily switching. Without a high-level shot creator behind them, Brooklyn’s offense has fallen short when it matters most.

The Nets have posted the league’s worst clutch record (5-19) and second-worst clutch offensive rating (96.0).

After encouraging early performances, Traore and Demin also lost on Sunday. Over the course of three quarters, Traoré scored 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting with five assists and two turnovers. Demin had 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting with four assists and zero turnovers.

However, the rookie duo shot 0 of 7 while committing four turnovers in the final frame.

“You go through experience, and you learn,” Fernandez said of Traore and Demin’s late struggles. “Some rushed shots and turnovers… you’ve got to learn how to stay composed. You’ve got to learn how to get everybody involved [the right] Locations, how to take good shots, and we didn’t do that. So that’s the next game.”

While Sunday’s loss undoubtedly stung Brooklyn’s locker room, it continued the team’s lead in a tightly contested tank race. After four consecutive losses, the Nets have regained sole possession of third place in the draft lottery standings. They are tied in the win column and two games behind the Indiana Pacers in the loss column, who are in second place.

If the season ended today, Brooklyn would have a 14.0 percent chance of finishing No. 1, a 52.1 percent chance of finishing in the top four, and a 93.0 percent chance of finishing in the top six. The third lottery slot cannot fall below the seventh pick.

Honoring former Los Angeles Lakers coach Pat Riley, who won five NBA championships with the team as head coach from 1981 to 1990, famed actor Michael Douglas referenced his Wall Street character, Gordon Gekko.

Gordon Gekko is Douglas’ character in the series Wall Street. The first film was released in 1987, and a sequel followed in 2010. Douglas starred in Wall Street with Charlie Sheen, Martin Sheen and Daryl Hannah.

Riley is largely associated with his time with the Lakers. He played for them from 1970 to 1975 and won the 1972 NBA Finals with them.

After retiring as a player, Riley joined the Lakers in 1979 as an assistant coach. He was then promoted to head coach in 1981, and held the position until 1990.

During his tenure as head coach of the Lakers, Riley led the team to four NBA championships. They won titles in 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988. The Lakers also won the NBA Finals in 1980 when Riley was still an assistant coach.

He then joined the New York Knicks from 1991 to 1995, and Riley coached the Miami Heat for several years and won an NBA championship.

As an executive, Riley has won two NBA championships. The Heat went back-to-back in 2012 and 2013 with the “Big Three” (LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade).

After all, the Lakers have honored Riley in fitting fashion. His statue is installed outside the Crypto.com Arena. He has been immortalized alongside artists like Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The Brooklyn Nets will have Michael Porter Jr. and Igor Demin available for the first time in a back-to-back in more than two months on Friday.
