Warriors still need to make 1 move to fill out roster after 2026 NBA trade deadline

Is it really over for the Golden State Warriors? It hasn’t been for lack of trying, but the Warriors no longer look like they have a chance to compete for a title. Jimmy Butler’s injury at the end of the season practically sealed the Dubs’ fate: whatever slim chances they had of competing for a championship vanished when Butler aggravated his knee and tore his ACL on an errant pass from Brandin Podziemski.

The Warriors’ two-timeline ploy didn’t work. James Wiseman was a failure. Jonathan Kuminga has not lived up to expectations. Moses Moody is a role player, a quality player, but not a star who can take over the team. Jordan Poole flared up and upset one of the pillars of the franchise in Draymond Green. And now, the Dubs are stuck with a mediocre and aging roster that is going to have their work cut out for them in a Western Conference challenge.

Credit should go where credit is due; The warriors are still not giving up. They traded for Kristaps Porzingis in a deal that sent Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks, taking the risk that Porzingis’ talent is worth the gamble despite his season-long battle against POTS.

This trade created a roster spot for the Warriors, although they had already filled one of their open roster spots by converting Pat Spencer’s contract to a standard deal, a move that made sense considering how instrumental Spencer has been in covering the team’s injury problems.

The Dubs created another roster spot when they traded Tracy Jackson-Davis to the Toronto Raptors for a second-round pick. With that in mind, the Warriors may have one more move left to make to prepare for the stretch run ahead.

Will the Warriors raid the buyout market?

Before diving into the potential targets the Warriors may set their sights on filling their open roster spot, their financial situation should be taken into consideration. Currently, the Warriors have a total of $205.2 million allocated for their player payroll, which puts them above the tax apron. They are a repeat tax-paying team, which will only serve to make their luxury tax penalty more punitive.

This also reduces their flexibility in the buyout market. The Warriors cannot sign any players in the buyout market whose contract was worth at least $14.1 million (equivalent to non-taxpayer MLE) this season because they were above the first apron. Not many buyout candidates are making that much money anyway, so it’s not like it’ll be a huge factor for the Dubs moving forward.

The Dubs don’t need help at the guard positions. In addition to Stephen Curry, the Warriors have the following playing minutes at the one and two: Podziemski, De’Anthony Melton, Spencer, Gary Payton II and Will Richard. Seth Curry could also be a factor after returning from injury.

Whatever happens, the Warriors need help on the wing. Butler’s injury and Kuminga’s departure have further depleted the Dubs’ depth at the position, pushing Gui Santos into the starting role. Santos has been very much solid and seems like he has established himself as at least a quality role player, but their depth on the wing leaves a lot to be desired.

The Warriors were rumored to be interested in Lonzo Ball, but Ball has looked bad all season, and although he can play one position, he doesn’t necessarily provide anything different than the likes of Payton or Melton. He can be a play initiator, and his court vision is still top-notch, but it might be best for the Dubs to reserve their open roster spot for someone else.

The current buyout market does not inspire much confidence. Of those who have already been forgiven, someone like Chris Boucher matters the most. Boucher is also a former Warriors player, so that could make some sense.

Still, Boucher hasn’t played well enough to earn minutes for the Boston Celtics despite the battle for the wide-open position at center, and it’s not like the Dubs need help at the big man spots, considering they have Green, Al Horford, Quinton Post and now Porzingis to fill all the minutes at five.

Of the players who could potentially be acquired, someone like Kyle Anderson or Nicolas Batum would make the most sense for the Dubs, although it’s not at all clear if those two will get a nod of departure from their teams.

Dubs could bring back a familiar face

Golden State Warriors forward Kyle Anderson (1) reacts next to guard Buddy Hield (7) after being fouled in the second quarter against the New Orleans Pelicans at Chase Center.
carrie edmondson-image images

Batum is unlikely to leave the Los Angeles Clippers. The veteran credited the team for saving his career in 2020, and he clearly loves the franchise. Furthermore, the Clippers value him as a veteran presence, and rumor has it that he will hang up his sneakers after the season. LA has already let him go once, and they’re not doing it again.

This brings the Warriors into a possible reunion with a familiar face in Anderson. Slo-Mo signed with the Dubs ahead of the 2024-25 season, and he was traded to the Miami Heat in the deal that brought Butler to the Bay. He played in 36 games for the Warriors and started three games, playing 15.0 minutes a night.

Anderson is the kind of cerebral veteran that Kerr relies on, and his playmaking, defending and feel for the game make him an easy piece to integrate for the Dubs.

He’s not going to be a very impactful veteran for the Warriors, but he should at least give the team additional insurance at the forward position. The Memphis Grizzlies are also betting on the 2025-26 campaign, meaning Anderson could very well be bought out, paving the way for a return to the Bay.

However, it’s unclear whether the Warriors have any desire to fill their open roster spot. This will only increase their luxury tax bill. But if they do, bringing in Anderson wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.

这是犯规,”@dj_immy_ 回应道。

“这个游戏太疯狂了,”@KOYIN_CENTRAL 发帖说。

OG Anunoby’s dunk attempt results in ultra-rare NBA moment

The nice thing about watching the NBA is that you’ll always get a chance to see something you haven’t seen before. Even if that thing is completely unnecessary. Just ask New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby.

The Knicks host the Detroit Pistons at Madison Square Garden on Thursday in a potential preview of the conference finals. It was an up-and-down affair from the start, with both teams refusing to budge.

In the second quarter, Anunoby took it a little too literally. He went up for a dunk, but Cade Cunningham intercepted the ball, which stuck to the side of the rim for a classic, all-time favorite, soul-enriching wedgie.

The great commentator Ian Eagle, in all his gusto, proudly exclaimed: “Oh! A dunk wedgie! That doesn’t happen often!”

If that doesn’t get you excited, nothing will.

Of course, fans had to react to the unusual moment, with some insisting that Cunningham escaped the foul.

@PratikGroth said, “The veggie block is crazy. Cade is doing everything there.”

@B82Scottie said, “At least it’s not a high school game where the ref has to use a ladder or a broom.”

“Posting this obvious foul as a highlight is crazy,” @Nafta456 wrote.

@dj_immy_ echoed, “Show the replays closer. That’s a foul.”

“This game is so much fun,” @KOYIN_CENTRAL posted.

Anunoby’s wedgie was a bad omen, as the Knicks fell to the Pistons, 126–111. They went 35-21, including 21-8 at home.

Anunoby struggled with eight points on 3 of 13 shooting, including 1 of 8 from long range. He also had four blocks.

Jalen Brunson had 33 points, six rebounds, eight assists and two steals. They also had six turnovers.

Matt Ishbia says ‘lack of attitude’ on tanking in NBA

Phoenix Suns owner Matt Ishbia added his voice to the conversation about tanking in the NBA. Ishbia issued a bold statement against the practice on his X account, citing an article by Yahoo Sports writer Tom Haberstroh.

He described the tanking tactics as “ridiculous” and said, “It’s a loser’s behavior by losers.”

“This is ridiculous! Tanking is losing behavior done by losers. Intentionally losing is something no one should be associated with. Shameful for leagues and organizations. And talking about it as a ‘strategy’ is ridiculous. If you’re a bad team, you get a good pick. It’s understandable. But intentionally tanking players and losing games on purpose is a disgrace and affects the integrity of the entire league.”

He also says it is worse than the prop betting scam, equating it to a strategically thrown game.

“This is far worse than any prop betting scandal. It’s throwing games strategically. Terrible for the fans who pay to watch and cheer on their team. And terrible for all the real teams that are competing for playoff spots.”

Ishbia’s comments are noteworthy, as he joins a growing group of NBA executives, media members and fans who believe something should be done about the practice. Ishbia’s comments, in particular, ring true, as his team is going through a renaissance after missing the playoffs last year. When Ishbia took over the Suns following the firing of Robert Sarver, he orchestrated the trade of Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets to the Phoenix Suns. They then pushed for a trade that sent Chris Paul to the Wizards in exchange for Bradley Beal.

In both the Beal and Durant trades, the Suns gave up several first-round picks. Now winning is a double whammy. And even as the team’s ability to put together a Big Three with Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal faltered, Ishbia and the Suns remained focused.

Rather than looking for first-round capital to strengthen and rebuild the team, the Suns built around margin, acquiring Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green from the Rockets in exchange for Kevin Durant, as well as gaining more size in the front court by trading for Mark Williams.

The Suns are now 32-23 and in seventh place in the Western Conference; They are just two games behind the Timberwolves for sixth place and three games behind the third-seeded Nuggets. Perhaps Ishbia sees the Suns’ quick roster retooling as the benchmark for rebuilding a team.

The Suns head to San Antonio to face Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs tonight at 8:30 PM Eastern.

Speculation grows that NBA will take hammer in Kawhi Leonard investigation

The aspiration scandal has engulfed the Los Angeles Clippers following Pablo Torre’s initial reporting on his podcast last fall. on his podcast Pablo Torre found outTorre has made extensive reporting alleging that Kawhi Leonard has signed a secret $28 million endorsement deal with eco-friendly tech company, Aspiration.

Clippers owner Steve Ballmer served as a major investor in the company, paying Leonard $7 million per year to become the company’s brand ambassador for four years. However, as Torre pointed out in his reporting, there is no evidence of Leonard serving as an ambassador for the brand, leading to speculation that the deal with the Aspirations was a way for the Clippers to circumvent the cap and give Kawhi additional incentive to play with the Clippers.

According to a report from The Athletic, Torre’s reporting sparked an investigation by the NBA, and many in NBA circles believe the Clippers are destined to receive harsh punishment for what happened.

The report stated, “In the weeks before Ballmer’s big party, there was a notable increase in league-wide speculation that the NBA’s hammer was likely to fall on the Clippers. This was a marked change from earlier in the season, when many believed the Leonard/Aspiration scandal would come and go without any concrete punishment.”

Adam Silver spoke about the incident and the investigation during a media availability over All-Star weekend. All-Star weekend was held at the Intuit Dome, home of the Los Angeles Clippers, in Los Angeles.

He said, “I have not yet reached any decisions on the Clippers matter. As you know, the league office is not directly running the investigation. It is being overseen by Wachtel, a law firm in New York. From everything I’ve been told, the Clippers have been completely cooperative. But as I said, I’m not involved day-to-day in the investigation.”

He then continued to outline the complexity of the investigation, according to comments secured by The Athletic.

“I think, as I’ve said before, it’s extremely complicated. You have a company in bankruptcy (Aspiration, which gave Leonard a no-show endorsement deal that was allegedly facilitated by the Clippers). You have thousands of documents, multiple witnesses that need to be interviewed. I would say, if anyone is wondering, the fact that the All-Star is here this weekend has no bearing on the timeline of the investigation. “It’s our charge to the Wachtel Law Firm (to) do the work and then come back and make recommendations to the league office, and that’s where things stand now.”

Despite the investigation and early season troubles, in which the team unceremoniously released Chris Paul, the Clippers have been playing great over the past few months. They sit at 26–28 and have struggled to get back into the playoff picture as a play-in team; They are just one game behind the Portland Trail Blazers, who are currently ninth in the standings.

Leonard is averaging 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.1 steals on 49.1% shooting and 91% from the free-throw line per game. So far, he has played 41 games this season – four games more than the 37 games he played in the 2024-2025 season. But despite their exceptional play and increased year-to-year numbers, the Aspiration scandal still remains a major topic around the team, and it could impact the winning streak Los Angeles is starting to have.

The Clippers are set to host the Nuggets tonight at 10:30 PM Eastern.

Joel Embiid gives honest admission to NBA coach Drew Hanlen

Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers has battled knee injuries for several seasons, playing just 50 games overall since the start of last campaign. After undergoing left meniscus surgery in January 2024, the 2023 MVP has navigated some tough times, including the 2024 Olympics, during which he played a key role for Team USA and returned with a gold medal.

And well, Drew Hanlen, widely considered the best skills coach in the NBA, recently detailed the determination shown by Embiid despite his recent absences due to injury.

“People don’t realize, that’s why the Olympics happen. Obviously, people know he was, you know, dragging himself through the Olympics, but this was his chance to actually win. You know, he won a gold medal. Of course, they were a loaded team, but they couldn’t have won the gold medal without him in the Serbia game, you know?” Hanlen said, referencing the Olympic semifinals, which Team USA won 95-91, according to a post on X by ClutchPoints.

Hanlen revealed that Embiid decided not to do skill workouts after returning, instead prioritizing his health.

“After that, until this season, mid-season, I think it was like December 10th, we didn’t work out once. This is a guy I’ve worked out with more times than anyone else because he’s obsessed with basketball, but he couldn’t work out because he was like: “You know what? I have to get my health back,” Hanlen said.

Embiid, who is still on a minutes restriction, is effectively struggling due to the lack of basketball workouts after being forced to take care of his knee. Hanlen cited this behind-the-scenes work as one of the reasons he struggled in the first half of the current campaign.

Drew Hanlen claims Embiid “feels like himself again.”

Hanlen claimed Embiid was forced to use NBA games as a means of getting back into shape, ultimately deciding to grind it out like “old school Joel”.

“And I remember at one point he was like: “Hey, I know I really shouldn’t do this,” but, like, he was like: “Come on, we’ve got to figure out my jump shot. My mid-range is closed, which never closes. Mine is three closed, which never closes. And so we did a workout, a workout, and we did, like old school Joel, for an hour and a half, probably shouldn’t have done it, but it was like we were back in the lab, and he’s like, “I feel like me again.” He said.

This returned him to his previous level, which apparently convinced Hanlein as well.

“And the next game, he had forty-nine, and since then, his average is, like, thirty. That’s how good he is,” he revealed.

With the 76ers returning following Paul George’s 25-game suspension, Embiid becomes even more important as they attempt to build on their current 30-24 record. The season isn’t over yet, and despite Embiid’s latest absence, Hanlen’s claims certainly give fans plenty of reason for optimism.

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn

The NBA has a media problem with the impressive offense at the All-Star Game. here is the solution

The 2026 NBA All-Star Game was an overall success for Adam Silver, the players, and their fans. The NBA also invited more than 200 content creators, which it described as “the broadest creator footprint ever,” welcoming a whole new set of problems into their world.

There was precedent for the participation of global creators. This year’s annual Super Bowl-week content recently aired. comedians like jimmy kimmel liveGuillermo Rodriguez has been connecting superstars to national audiences at NBA Finals media availability for years. However, with respect to media coverage in today’s digital age, the NBA needs to stop reacting to streamers and return to its roots as one of society’s most influential cultural forces.

The answer is to consider journalism and content creation as separate. Players will fear additional content-creation media availability in the same way they feared the introduction of in-game interviews on television. Historically, leagues have found ways to force players to make sacrifices to help grow audiences.

As print culture dies out in favor of video or online platforms with character limits, discussions about anything from sports to politics have become increasingly irrational. The convenience of instant messages is undeniable. But it cannot be separated from the context which is often lost in online posts. This is especially relevant to platforms like X, which limit characters and encourage contention.

The equation of journalistic work with content creation, whether entertaining or not, is dangerous for fans. The NBA led the way globally in responding to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although sports reporting is not as urgent as a public health issue, the league can again lead the way globally by setting an important standard. The NBA is grateful for the example it sets for its fans to work and lead in this unprecedented era of content and information.

The NBA has pitted creators against reporters, causing real harm to fans.

jeanne kamin-onsia-imagen images

According to the league, creators were “deeply integrated” into All-Star Weekend, playing “active roles in All-Star events through on-court participation, broadcast roles and behind-the-scenes access.” They are real factors in terms of revenue generation for the development of sports and empowering teams and boosting the sports economy. But they don’t have the responsibility to their audiences that journalists do.

TikTokers are beholden to standards of accuracy or fairness, but not in the way an NBA beat reporter is. Content creators entertain audiences, which is a fundamental principle of the game itself. But they don’t investigate and share information with audiences the way journalists should.

Detroit Pistons reporter Omari Sankofa II was unable to ask questions of all three All-Star representatives from the Motor City. This was simply due to an easily preventable scheduling snafu in which the availability of Jalen Duren, Cade Cunningham and JB Bickerstaff were planned simultaneously. When so many players and coaches have to field questions from so many media members, the overlap is understandable. But it’s important to recognize that fans suffer the most from that setup.

Reporters, especially local ones, have long been the best way for fans to follow their team during the season. Influencers and content creators are warmly welcome to join the conversation, providing both current and potential fans with an entertaining perspective on their favorite—or new favorite—athletes. But this cannot continue at the cost of silencing journalists.

Creators should be welcomed in the NBA world, but not at the expense of journalism

In some rare cases, those journalists are literally being muted. When the NBA announced its impressive plans, New York Knicks reporter James L. Edwards III shared an anecdote related to the NBA Cup. The reporter missed the opportunity to ask a legitimate final question because a content creator made a jersey for a Knicks player and asked him to sign it.

While it may be tempting to call these journalists crazy and move on, the fact is that their job is to serve fans by investigating and sharing the truth. The league’s growing involvement with sportsbooks and prediction markets underscores the need for that kind of journalism.

While the cultural half-life of information is getting shorter, some data points are still much more important than others. But the NBA doesn’t have to choose between them. They should show creators how important they are by providing their media availability. Some hilarious content created over All-Star Weekend revealed that NBA stars are prone to doing all kinds of weird things. But making TikToks during a job interview doesn’t have to be one of them.

Bucks grade 2026 NBA trade deadline after keeping Giannis Antetokounmpo

The trade deadline has come and gone and Giannis Antetokounmpo is still a member of the Milwaukee Bucks after much trouble. It certainly seemed as if Antetokounmpo’s eyes were wandering, and for the first time, a trade out of Cream City seemed more realistic than ever. But in the end, the Bucks didn’t pull the trigger – a refusal that echoed loudly throughout the association.

The Bucks organization has been in decline over the past few years, and their big offseason move smacked of desperation. Instead of taking 2026 as a gap year, they decided to waive and extend Damian Lillard’s contract while he recovers from a torn Achilles so they can bring in Myles Turner. Suffice to say, bringing in Turner isn’t enough to make Milwaukee a playoff team, let alone a contender in even the weak Eastern Conference.

Now, the Bucks are in a tough position moving forward, although they can always revisit Antetokounmpo trade talks in the offseason. Their long-term approach hasn’t changed, though it’s still debatable whether they did the right thing by moving these trade talks into the offseason rather than cashing out before the deadline.

Bucks did not receive any substantial Giannis Antetokounmpo trade offer

The Antetokounmpo trade saga became the most anticipated announcement of the pre-deadline season. Every NBA fan was refreshing their feeds on social media, waiting for the next tweet from renowned NBA insider Shams Charania and anxiously awaiting the next update regarding trade talks involving the Bucks.

Finally, Charania teased fans with constant breadcrumbs and non-updates, until he revealed that the Bucks were actually going to hold on to Antetokounmpo, causing trade talks to drag into the offseason.

It’s never going to be easy parting ways with a franchise cornerstone, especially one who has done so much for the Bucks like Antetokounmpo has. The city of Milwaukee has also adopted Antetokounmpo as one of their own; He has been there since 2013 and under his tutelage he has become one of the greatest superstars in the league.

So try as the Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, or Golden State Warriors might have done, it will always be a godfather proposition for the Bucks to consider trading the greatest player in franchise history. Antetokounmpo may have said it’s hard for him not to be upset considering how the team has fallen apart around him, but he clearly hasn’t given the order by demanding he be fired.

Since Antetokounmpo hasn’t pushed the issue at all, it’s hard to criticize the Bucks for not trading Giannis away yet. Giannis has long expressed his desire to be a one-team player for the rest of his career, but he also wants to compete for championships. Perhaps there’s a possibility, no matter how slim, that a competitive team could still thrive in Milwaukee while it’s still in its prime.

But in all likelihood the Bucks will continue to struggle over the next few seasons, and if Antetokounmpo’s desire to win another championship outweighs his desire to stay in Milwaukee, the team will have no choice but to trade him in the final year of his contract.

One could argue that even if Antetokounmpo had pushed the issue regarding a potential trade, the Bucks would have been best served by doing what they did and waiting until the offseason. The Warriors’ choice looked very attractive, but gambling on huge returns in exchange for the greatest player in franchise history is a risky game.

The Heat do not have any blue-chip prospects they could trade to include future first-round picks; Predictably, any realistic Heat trade proposal for Giannis would revolve around Bam Adebayo, and trading Adebayo for Antetokounmpo instead of adding them together seems counterproductive for a team with championship aspirations.

As for the Timberwolves, try as they might, they couldn’t raise enough draft capital to convince the Bucks to trade Antetokounmpo to the northernmost part of the United States. Minnesota may be willing to trade Jaden McDaniels, but they were unable to acquire enough first-round picks for some of their key players, including Julius Randle, to make a deal.

Limiting themselves to contenders before the deadline doesn’t serve the Bucks in any shape or form; He should receive similar offers in the offseason, although being in the offseason opens up more opportunities for other bidders to get involved in the Giannis sweepstakes, which should benefit Milwaukee in the long run.

At the end of the day, the Bucks have to prioritize getting the best package available in any potential Giannis trade.

Perhaps the Houston Rockets become more open to trading someone like Alperen Sengun or Amen Thompson if they make an early exit in the playoffs. The Oklahoma City Thunder might have put Jalen Williams on the table if they don’t repeat as champions. Or perhaps the Spurs reconsider a potential Giannis pursuit and try to get over the hump if they fall short in the postseason.

The Bucks at least have the luxury of waiting, although they don’t have much time to wait considering Giannis will hit the open market in 2027.

Milwaukee made some buy-less moves

The Bucks settled for a few buyout-less moves before the deadline, bringing in former Thunder prospect Ousmane Dieng and giving Cam Thomas a chance after being let go by the Brooklyn Nets.

Thomas is still only 24 and a proven rookie, so there’s probably still some untapped potential there. Meanwhile, Dieng is showcasing two-way ability, as evidenced by his 19-point, 11-rebound, four-block night against the Thunder in their last game before the All-Star break.

For a team with a serious lack of assets like the Bucks, this is the best thing to do: take a risk on players who may have lost their spark but may still have some untapped potential.

Bulls grade 2026 NBA trade deadline after 6 deals

It’s very difficult to convey the Chicago Bulls’ NBA trade deadline deal in so few words. But the way the Bulls maneuvered before the deadline left more fans scratching their heads than any other team in the league. It certainly seemed like Chicago was ready for a fire sale, considering some of their established players were in the final year of their contracts. But some of the deals he has accepted are so complicated that it is difficult to believe them.

Over the past few seasons, the Bulls have been part of an honorary four-team, play-in tournament club that includes the Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, and Orlando Magic. They don’t have the young prospects that can lead the team to their next competitive run, and their veteran players aren’t good enough to lead a deep playoff run.

However, as is the case with the Bulls, they couldn’t pull the trigger when they needed to and as a result, their roster is now a mix of players who don’t look like they have any long-term future in the Windy City.

Finally, here is a review of how the Bulls performed before the trade deadline and what grade they deserve for their maneuvers.

Bulls trade their guards to bring in more guards, Hydra style

The oxen were at a crossroads; They had a lot of players on expiring deals that they could get some value from instead of letting them leave in free agency for nothing. And it’s not like those players won’t make any kind of impact on winning teams. But again, the problem was that the Bulls have waited too long and been content to remain as an average team for too long, limiting their returns on the trade market.

Chicago made such moves before the trade deadline that it wasn’t exactly clear what the ultimate goal was for their front office. For starters, they brought a lot of guards. And this is not being exaggerated to any extent. They actually traded for so many combo guards that it’s hard to imagine most of them remaining on the roster for next season.

To start, the Bulls finally traded Nikola Vucevic in a deal that was honestly a long time coming. It was always going to hurt that the Bulls gave up Wendell Carter Jr., another starting-caliber big man in the NBA, and Franz Wagner to take Vucevic in the first round, but there was no reason for Chicago to hold on to Vucevic for too long.

For Vucevic, the Bulls received Anfernee Simmons and a 2026 second-round pick from the Boston Celtics. As it was, it would have been a great comeback. But Chicago made it even worse for themselves by attaching a 2027 second-round pick to Vucevic.

Chicago also kept Coby White for a very long time. All the Bulls could do was trade for White for a package from the Charlotte Hornets headlined by Collin Sexton, another guard, Ousmane Dieng and three second-round picks. Due to White’s failed medical, which showed some severity of the calf injury he is currently experiencing, the Bulls had to settle for a lower selection in the second round.

Rather than trade White during the offseason if his value was high, the Bulls had to settle for that return for one of their best players.

And then Chicago made it even worse for itself; Due to their critical big man situation, they had to flip 22-year-old big man Dieng to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Nick Richards, who could show promise. Dieng has shined so far in his brief time with the Bucks, while Richards is a hot commodity – he’s a backup big man who can only be used as a starter in an emergency situation.

The Bulls’ guard wheeling and dealing didn’t stop there. They shipped Kevin Huerter, who was on an expiring contract, to the Detroit Pistons for the return of Jaden Ivy. While it’s hard to attack the Bulls for betting on another former lottery pick, especially considering that Ivy has shown promise in the past, he is yet another guard who adds to the team’s logjam at positions where he should play.

Ivey also continues the Bulls’ trend of gambling on former lottery players who have lost their luster; Chicago has brought in Ivey, Isaac Okoro and Jalen Smith in recent years, and yet their original teams passed on them for reasons that were all too obvious.

Speaking of gambling on former lottery picks, Rob Dillingham was somehow the primary piece the Bulls got in exchange for Ayo Dosunmu, whose speed, shooting and ballhandling would be such a boon to a contending team.

Sure, Chicago traded four picks in the second round for Dosunmu, who himself was drafted in the second round in the past, but Dillingham has further complicated the sticky web that is the Bulls’ backcourt picture.

For those not counting at home, the Bulls now have the following players who need minutes at the guard position: Josh Giddy, Simmons, Sexton, Ivey, Dillingham, and Tre Jones. Things are fine at the moment as Giddy and Jones are improving, but when those players return, head coach Billy Donovan will have his work cut out for them.

The swap for Guershon Yabusele for Delon Terry at least appears to be working out in the Bulls’ favor, with Yabusele hell-bent on reviving his career in the Windy City.

Chicago got a total of eight picks in the second round, which is nothing to scoff at. This should at least help them grease the wheels for future trading.

But the fact that they failed to get at least a first-round pick for players like Vucevic, White and Dosunmu is a complete failure. Chicago will have to pay Ivey big money for his next contract. Simmons and Sexton’s contracts are expiring. Patrick Williams’ deal is still on their books.

The Bulls front office may have been cooking before the trade deadline, but sadly, the dish they came up with is going straight into the trash can.

Cedric Coward fearlessly names NBA player who ‘put me in a box’

He may not have entered the NBA with a lot of hype compared to his fellow rookies, but Memphis Grizzlies forward Cedric Coward has been a pleasant surprise.

Coward, the 11th overall pick out of Washington State, has earned a role with his workaholic attitude, providing the Grizzlies with toughness and toughness on both ends. He has started 35 games.

The 22-year-old newcomer said he will only improve as he progresses biggest lesson What he’s learned so far is to “keep it simple.”

“I found it out when we played the OKC (Thunder) at home. The last possession, (Alex) Caruso put me in a box. I was too complicated in what I was trying to do,” Coward said on “The Kevin O’Connor Show.”

“I wish I could get that moment back. I know I’ll get that moment again, maybe it won’t be against Caruso, but I know that moment will come again.”

He said that he has learned to let the game come to him instead of making a big deal out of the issue. At a young age, Coward has a mature mentality and battling experienced opponents like Caruso has given him a greater understanding of the NBA.

“Get in your space and do what you’re comfortable doing and don’t really worry about what they’re going to do,” Coward said.

“So for me, don’t do anything crazy, and at the same time, get the matchups I want. I would love to go against anyone other than Caruso on that Thunder team.”

Coward was named among the rising stars at All-Star Weekend, but was unable to play due to a knee injury.

He averaged 13.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists.

New NBA All-Star Game format drives huge increase in viewership

On Sunday evening, the NBA All-Star weekend concluded with the big game, which was actually four smaller games as part of a round robin tournament between three teams. The United States youth team swept the field, with Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards taking All-Star Game MVP honors.

The NBA has been tinkering with the All-Star Game format for the past few years in hopes of appeasing fans’ ongoing complaints, and if Sunday’s ratings are any indication, the league may have found its new solution moving forward.

x, former ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel on Twitter reported, “Regardless of what the audience looked like in the arena at times, the 2026 NBA All-Star Game delivered the largest TV audience since 2011, averaging 8.8 million viewers across NBC, Peacock and Telemundo.”

“The 2026 All-Star Game topped last year’s viewership with 87% (4.7 million views),” he said.

This weekend, there was a lot of discussion about the perceived lack of effort from players in the past few All-Star games, with fans wondering if the new USA vs. World format would be enough to motivate the stars to try a little harder.

San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama set the tone early with his competitive play and other stars seemed to follow suit, losing three out of four games at the event.

It remains to be seen if the NBA will pursue this exact format, as at one point, the old USA roster played three straight games, at the end of which they appeared a bit tired.

However, for a league that is in its final stages, NBA officials have to be happy with the game’s ratings results.

The NBA regular season is scheduled to resume on Thursday.

What LeBron James said about Israel’s Deni Avdija before the NBA All-Star Game

By Deni Avdija As he makes history as the first Israeli player to play in the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James discusses him and his aspirations to move to Israel.

Speaking to reporters, James praised Avdija. He stands by his opinion that Avdija deserves to be named an NBA All-Star for his play.

“I’ve been quoted before about Denny and asked what I think about his season. I said I believe he’s an All-Star. He’s playing exceptional basketball,” James said.

After this he talked about the possibility of visiting Israel. James hasn’t been, but he knows he has fans there. So, he is ready for the tour.

James said, “I’ve never been there, but if I have fans there, I hope you’re following my career.” “I hope to inspire people out there to not only be great in sports but to be better in life in general. Hopefully, someday I can get there. I’ve heard nothing but great things.”

Currently, James is in the middle of his eighth season with the Lakers. The Lakers are 33-21, putting them in first place in the Pacific Division. They have the fifth-best record in the Western Conference. James is currently averaging 22 points, 5.8 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game.

Stephen A. Smith anoints Anthony Edwards as the next face of the NBA

According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, after the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards won the All-Star Game MVP award, it’s fitting to appoint him the face of the NBA. Talking about Edwards’ all-round game, Smith says that Edwards’ unique skill set sets him apart from players like San Antonio Spurs youngster Victor Wambayama.

Edwards is eligible for Smith informal title he said of the face of the NBA, according to ESPN’s First Take.

“[Victor] Vembanyama, brother, is special. But that damn Ant-Man, he’s worth watching. That’s Jordan-esque. He hasn’t won yet. So we can’t say that,” Smith said. “But his game – the pureness of it – the handle, the shot, the athleticism, the swag. She doesn’t believe it, but her boy Stephen A. is going to tell her. You got it all.”

Smith says the average fan may relate more to Edwards than Vishal Wembanyama.

“A lot of people can’t relate to someone who’s 7-feet-5 inches tall. We can never do that. We can’t be that. It’s just an anomaly. Ant-Man is just like Steph [Curry]The baby face is killer. Damn, look at his size, and he’s doing what he’s doing,” Smith said. “Look at Ant-Man what he’s doing… [He] Is going to be the face of the NBA. Mark it. Vembanyama is there with him. He may win sooner than we know, but Ant-Man will be there.

Edwards totaled 32 points in 26 minutes over three games. He helped lead the USA Stars to a 47–21 victory in the All-Star Game final.

windhorst kept it 100 About Edwards, according to ESPN’s Get Up.

“This guy does everything you want from a superstar,” Windhorst said. “He plays on both ends of the court, he has great dunks, he’s a great 3-point shooter, he has a great personality, he’s been a winner. He hasn’t won a championship, but he’s led the Wolves to their best two years in franchise history, and he has incredible competitive juice, which he’s shown in this game.”

Edwards earned his first All-Star Game MVP award.

Rick Pitino makes wild suggestion of NBA All-Star Game

On Sunday night, the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities concluded with the game itself, which actually consisted of four 12-minute games as part of a round robin tournament. The young American team won the tournament, defeating a team filled with US veterans as well as international players, with Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards winning the All-Star Game MVP award.

The NBA has changed the All-Star Game format several times over the past few years in an effort to drum up any kind of competitive spirit among the players, and the product appeared to be an improvement on Sunday compared to what we’ve seen before.

However, that didn’t stop St. John’s head coach and basketball icon Rick Pitino from proposing another idea to move the event forward.

“It’s great to see the new format with the All-Star Game. I suggested the NBA do the Ryder Cup with basketball. Starting in Greece and then going back to the states. It would be incredible and even more popular than the Ryder Cup,” he wrote on Twitter.

The NBA implementing its own version of golf’s Ryder Cup would certainly be worth seeing, and would continue the theme of US vs. international players that started this year.

For now, it seems like the league is happy with what we saw from the players on Sunday night, as the game lived up to the billing and produced some entertainment for the fans in attendance at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

Now, the league will move forward into an expanded season, although Adam Silver and company still have a ton of questions to answer, including the rise of artificial intelligence, gambling, and a number of other factors that could have a major impact on the game as we know it.

Why is it time for the NBA to abandon the dunk contest after the latest flop at All-Star Weekend?

The NBA Slam Dunk Contest has always been a major part of All-Star Weekend. It’s an event we always looked forward to seeing as kids, and it’s arguably the most searched-for NBA content on YouTube, as fans always want to relive amazing moments from Michael Jordan, Vince Carter, Zach LaVine, and Aaron Gordon, among many others. It wasn’t that long ago that this competition meant anything.

Nowadays, the dunk contest is seen as something that makes us all ask, “Do we need to do this?”

At this point the event seems forced upon us, especially when it has overstayed its welcome and simply lost its touch.

If the tremendous dunk contests of the past several years were any indication of where this All-Star event has come to an end, Saturday night (technically afternoon) in Inglewood was the icing on top of the cake.

What was memorable about this incident, other than Jess Richardson almost being seriously injured when he fell hard on the court after attempting a dunk off the edge of the backboard? Honestly, can anyone remember what has happened at this event during All-Star Weekend the past few years, other than Mac McClung, who is the only player who has played a total of 10 NBA games in his career?

Frankly, getting the league to try to get players to participate in this event has been almost like pulling teeth over the years. This is especially true because star players aren’t as sought after as they were with the 3-point contest or the All-Star Game.

Lack of stars ruined the event

It wasn’t long ago that stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Donovan Mitchell and others were competing in the dunk contest during All-Star Weekend. Although they were small at the time and the event has always catered to young players looking to make a name for themselves, it has suddenly become something that no one wants to participate in.

Jaylen Brown has been the only All-Star talent to participate in the event over the past several years. We see players and stars all the time talking about how the dunk contest should be changed, fixed, and saved, yet none of them are willing to step up and be the solution.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the problem here. The reason past dunk contests with Carter, Jordan, LaVine and Gordon have always been talked about is that they not only cared about putting on a show, but they were also willing to be the face of the event.

Nobody wants to do that these days except a G League player, which is why the talent in the dunk contest has been extremely low over the past few seasons.

This should in no way be taken as a disrespect to this year’s participants: Keshad Johnson, Carter Bryant, Jace Richardson and Jackson Hayes. These people did what they could, and should really be commended for making this program happen when so many others turned down the opportunity to participate.

Also, what have any of these players actually done that made people flock to this event and think it would be any different from the disappointments of almost every dunk contest over the years? Bryant and Richardson are rookies who have barely played, Hayes has been a backup big man for most of his career, and Johnson has played a total of 257 minutes in his career.

Unless they’re a fan of one of these four players’ teams or are a basketball buff like yours truly, the average NBA fan doesn’t know anything about this year’s participants. This is a big problem, and this issue has existed for years in relation to the Dunk Contest.

Needless to mention, Hayes criticized the dunk contest after the event on Saturday night, claiming he would rather be in Hawaii than Los Angeles for All-Star Weekend festivities. When a lesser-known player is saying this, there is a serious problem with spectacle.

After all, it’s not like this year’s event was all that memorable, as it was filled with a lot of dancing and a few dunks, most of which any player in the NBA could have done. There was nothing unique about this event, and it has almost turned into an event that fans are only attending and cheering for because they don’t want to let go of the past.

Even the young, rising stars, who can easily win the event and get a lot of endorsement deals and set the standards for the next generation, do not want to participate in the event. Prominent rookies and second-year players, who should see such an opportunity as an honor, are ignoring the event because it is not like it used to be.

VJ Edgecombe has had an All-Rookie and Rookie of the Year campaign this year with the Philadelphia 76ers, and fans would love to see him take a lead role in the dunk contest. But the Sixers rookie had other ideas and made it clear he would not be accepting an invitation to the event, giving no specific reason other than “I’m not doing that” and that he’s “cool.”

Perhaps the dunk contest has run its course, especially when every year it’s the same story of a disappointing event and star players pleading to save it. That’s exactly what happened in 2025, prompting Ja Morant and others to hint that this year’s event in Inglewood will be one to remember for years.

Ja Morant, Zach LaVine and even Giannis claimed on social media that they could save the event after McClung won for the third consecutive year. It takes that kind of energy to save the Dunk Contest, yet neither star participated in the event last weekend.

NBA All-Star Saturday has lost its touch as the dunk contest continues to dominate the headlines. But at the same time, that doesn’t mean All-Star Weekend as a whole needs a revamp.

All-Star Saturday still works… kind of

Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard (0) competes in the three-point contest during the 2026 NBA All-Star Saturday Night at the Intuit Dome.
kirby lee-image images

Fans and NBA media members alike have been very critical of All-Star Weekend over the years. More specifically, All-Star Saturday Night has become a major discussion topic, with some questioning whether it is even necessary anymore.

Just because the Dunk Contest has been disappointing and needs a change, doesn’t mean that every single fun event that basketball fans around the world enjoy watching should be abandoned.

The NBA 3-Point Contest is still a great spectacle, and one of the main reasons is that big names and elite 3-point shooting threats are willing to participate. Each of the past six winners of the event has been an All-Star talent, and Damian Lillard has now won the event in three of the last four seasons.

Less than 24 hours after the contest ended Saturday in Inglewood, Stephen Curry and Lillard made it clear they will be back in contention next season when the Phoenix Suns host All-Star Weekend.

For anyone who had any doubts about how serious Curry and Lillard are, these two are already teaming up to recruit Devin Booker, who said he would participate, and Klay Thompson, who Steph told Lillard via message that he would get them to sign.

With Lillard, Curry, Booker and Thompson, the 2027 3-Point Contest already has the best field in the event’s history, as all four stars have won the 3-point crown before. So, if the big names can come together to do this for one of the All-Star Saturday events, why can’t they do the same for the others?

This year’s All-Star Saturday Night, which took place at noon, started with a fun and thrilling 3-point contest that came down to Lillard, Booker and rookie sensation Kon Knueppel. Overall, it was a great event that no one had any problems with, especially considering that Lillard has been out the entire season recovering from an Achilles injury and he not only participated, but won the event.

The next order of business was Kia Shooting Stars, which replaced the Skills Challenge. Although it was not as entertaining as previous events, Shooting Stars brought a level of excitement with the addition of past greats such as Alan Houston and Ron Harper. Whenever the NBA can add former players and Hall of Fame talent, they should always take advantage of the opportunity.

But after these first two events, the Dunk Contest, which is always the headliner of All-Star Saturday Night, was a complete waste of time. The attendees hardly made any noise, and there was virtually no over-the-top reaction from current and former players present to watch the competition.

The dunk contest has lost its touch. Unless some of the league’s best dunkers and stars are willing to save the event, it’s time to join the skills challenge. In doing so, the NBA could create a new event that both fans and players have been demanding:

A 1-on-1 tournament.

Time for a new 1 vs 1 event?

One thing the NBA does really well is involving the players and letting their input help make decisions to better the league. Commissioner Adam Silver and the NBA office have worked long and hard with the players union over the past few seasons to improve the All-Star Game, and we can certainly see improvements in terms of competitiveness on the court.

Both the NBA and the players deserve a lot of credit for making All-Star Weekend better than ever.

However, there’s still room for growth, and it all goes back to All-Star Saturday Night, with the Dunk Contest coming off as an event that overstayed its welcome. Down the road, it might make sense to bring back the dunk contest, but for now, it’s time to put this event next to the Skills Challenge.

As for what will replace the Dunk Contest and become the main event of All-Star Weekend, the NBA should look no further than the success women’s basketball has had with its unmatched 1-on-1 tournament. WNBA players have taken the event as seriously as their season over the years, and the event has generated a lot of interest among NBA talent.

At the 2025 All-Star Game, Kevin Durant spoke highly of the idea of a 1-on-1 tournament and claimed that the league is full of amazing talent that could make the event stand out.

“I don’t think it’s going to be easy to predict who will come out on top,” Durant said on NBA TV. “I think there are a lot of guys that can come out here and put on a show in 1-on-1, so it will be a great addition to All-Star Weekend. We’ll see what happens.”

Durant talked about the idea of a 1-on-1 tournament with Draymond Green and claimed he would play if the NBA added the event to All-Star Weekend.

This year, it was Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown who was the leading voice for a 1-on-1 tournament to be added to the All-Star calendar, as he fully supported the idea of moving the event to All-Star Weekend.

“I’m really a big fan of one-on-one,” Brown said at All-Star media day. “There are some guys here this weekend that I would love to challenge. All of them. Luka (Doncic), Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander), (Jalen) Brunson, Donovan (Mitchell). I would challenge all of those guys one by one. We can donate to any charity. Let’s set it up.”

With Durant and Brown publicly advocating for a 1-on-1 tournament over the past two All-Star Weekends, and many other stars likely feeling the same way, could we possibly see it debut in 2027? Maybe we could even see a 1-on-1 All-Star tournament replace the dunk contest for a while.

The NBA has some decisions to make regarding All-Star Weekend, and no decision is bigger than what happens with Saturday night’s activities, specifically the Dunk Contest. Unless they get stars and notable talent to participate, the event will continue to be disrespected and despised by players and fans alike.

他也是前 NBA 全明星賽 MVP(2014 年)。

Spurs’ Victor Vembanayama will not be included in ‘Face of the NBA’ announcement

Amid all the groaning about the increasingly lackluster NBA All-Star Game, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama displayed an intense competitive fire that resonated with the players on the court and those watching at home. He bravely led a shorthanded and injury-limited Team World, posting 34 points and three blocks in a total of 20 minutes. Although the 7-foot-5 Frenchman was on the losing side, he presented himself as someone who is expected to eventually become the face of the league.

Vembanyama addressed fans’ All-Star-Game apathy by energizing the proceedings. Exhibition competition will always have its flaws, but for the first time in ages, the conversation around it isn’t overwhelmingly negative. And that is a big reason for this. The 22-year-old decided to give fans a better product. It’s exactly the proactive approach Silver and company want to see from the game’s top players.

Vembanyama’s efforts only reinforce the notion that he will soon become an NBA trailblazer. However, he is not campaigning for this privilege/responsibility. The 2024 All-Defensive First-Team selection firmly believes that such change can only happen naturally, free from media provocation or his own promotion.

According to HoopsHype, Wembanyama told reporters when asked about players’ reluctance to publicly stake a claim for the title of future face of the NBA, “I see what you’re trying to tell me, too.” “But I think it’s something that should be natural. Social media, the NBA can promote whoever they want, but at the end of the day it’s going to be the best players – and the ones people want.

“Becoming the face of the league is not something that can be manufactured – maybe only to a certain extent. It’s just going to be the best player. So becoming the face of the league will be a byproduct of their basketball level.”

Victor Vembanyama is not shying away from the subject. The two-time All-Star is confident he will one day take over this role. But he is not going to issue any public petition. His performance on the court makes a pretty compelling case in itself.

The former No. 1 overall pick is averaging 24.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.7 blocks while shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from 3-point range this season. If he can stay healthy and lead the Spurs to a deep playoff run, the NBA will no longer have to worry about finding a new leading man.

Anthony Edwards joins 2 Chainz for autograph session after NBA All-Star Game heroics

On Sunday, February 15, 2026, the USA Stars defeated the USA Stripes to win the NBA All-Star Game 21–47. In the championship game, Anthony Edwards emerged victorious with his team following his game-winning innings, earning him the Kobe Trophy as the ’26 All-Star MVP. He finished with 32 points in 3 games.

While he became the talk of the town after the match, this was another moment after the match that went viral on the internet. Edwards was seen autographing 2 Chainz’s jersey after the All-Star Game. Rapper 2 Chainz was seen in conversation with Edwards, requesting an autograph from the Minnesota Timberwolves star following his MVP performance in the 75th NBA All-Star Game.

The two also hugged each other and were photographed holding the jersey for display. The 24-year-old Timberwolves shooting guard and 2 Chainz are both from Atlanta, Georgia. And the rapper was on the court to see Edwards and his team win.

Following his MVP performance at the NBA All-Star Game, Edwards made a post-game appearance, where he spoke candidly about cooking up rival teams’ LeBron James and Kevin Durant. “Yeah, sure, I want to cook them every time.”

Despite still being young compared to James and Durant, Edwards is steadily making a name and legacy for himself in the game. Playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Edwards is averaging 29.3 points per game on 49.3 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from deep. By maintaining a winning mentality and attitude throughout the game, Edwards earned his first NBA All-Star MVP trophy.

How Victor Wembanyama saved the NBA All-Star Game by ‘setting the tone’

The day after Valentine’s was filled with love for the NBA, which accomplished something that both fans and pundits thought was impossible. The league saved the NBA All-Star Game.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards went viral on Friday by declaring that the All-Star Game “is where it’s at at this point.” It was a disappointingly transparent warning against any expectations of effort. It was clear after Sunday’s first of four games that Edwards had changed his mind.

Team Stars—the young group of American All-Stars—defeated Team World 37–35. After the game, Edwards told Zora Stephenson that San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama’s intensity brought a competitive edge to his group.

“I mean, you know, I’m not going to lie, Wembley set the tone. Like, he came out playing hard. So it’s hard not to match him, so, s—, that’s what happened. Sorry for my language, though, that’s what happened,” Edwards told Stephenson on NBC’s broadcast.

Edwards and Wembanyama are two players often touted as the “future faces of the NBA.” It’s a heartbreaking acceptance that the playing careers of the two Akron-born superstars, their slim-reaping compatriots and Kawhi Leonard, will be over. The Timberwolves guard has avoided that designation like the plague, but his MVP-winning performance on Sunday worked against it.

A former NBA player sees the revival of the All-Star Game coming. Ironically, it was the youngest player in league history who had the necessary vision to disagree with an industry that had largely abandoned the event.

Boggs told David Shepard on SiriusXM NBA Radio that the players know the game is just an exhibition and that fans “wait all year” for the event. He also predicted that only a few young, enthusiastic All-Stars would bring the necessary fire from among the rest of the league’s best players.

“It’s the players. They know it’s an All-Star Game. But they know when it’s time to compete and give the fans what they deserve… I think the message and the word is getting out. And I think some of the younger players understand the importance of it. And I think they’ll put some of their – I don’t know, maybe the older guys, on Front Street. Because when you’re putting that type of effort and that energy out there, it resonates. And it shows, too. That’s who’s all in, and who’s all out,” Boggs bluntly explained to Shepard before All-Star Weekend.

Wembanyama’s approach to the competition was reminiscent of the excitement fans saw a young Kobe Bryant bring to the 1998 All-Star Game. the last Dance The recent highlight was the veteran players’ desire to beat the eager Bryant, the same energy that the sixth-year guard in Edwards had for the third-year event.

Putting financial incentives on the league’s wealthiest players has not proven to encourage efforts. However, the challenges of his teammates take advantage of the competitive spirit that fuels his battles against the best players in the world. This is key for the NBA to save its All-Star Game, which it did regardless of the format change.

The event will always go as far as its best talents will take it. This year, he shot for the stars.

Draymond Green expresses desire to become NBA commissioner

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has never voiced an opinion he doesn’t like. Green is certainly one of the most outspoken players in the NBA, sometimes to a fault, and he’s unapologetic about it.

But that’s not just hot air. Many people consider him a smart person. Green has a clear view on things, although at times controversial. At the very least, he gets people talking, which is always good for the NBA.

Sports commentator Skip Bayless asked Green if he wanted to become NBA commissioner someday, saying that the veteran forward has “the right brain” and that he could “help this league in a leadership position.” Green gave a clear answer.

“I would love to. I’ve always wanted to see this league grow. During my time in this league, I’ve faced a lot of adversity, but I’m hopeful and I think I’ve done more good than bad,” the four-time All-Star said on his podcast.

As he mentioned, the 35-year-old Green has faced trouble in the league due to his volatile personality. He has been suspended six times by the NBA and has paid over $1 million in fines.

Because of these, it is difficult to envision him becoming the first player to become an NBA commissioner, even if he understood the nuances of the league and the mentality of the players.

Meanwhile, NBA commissioner Adam Silver was recently called out by sports commentators Bill Simmons and Michael Kay for leadership issues. Simmons said he was unsure whether Silver was the right person to run the NBA, while Kay said Silver should take a tough approach.

LeBron James hits historic low after 2026 NBA All-Star Game loss

In 2026, LeBron James made the All-Star team for the 22nd time in his career, with coaches recognizing how impactful he is as a star, even though he hasn’t really been that great in the past for the Los Angeles Lakers. James has the most All-Star nominations in NBA history with 22, but as a wise imaginary man once said, “With great power comes great responsibility”.

Since James has made the All-Star Game 22 times, losses are bound to happen, even for a great guy like him. In 2026, his team, Team Stripes, fell short in the latest edition of the famous exhibition competition, giving them their 11th loss in All-Star Game history.

As HoopsHype reported on

Of course, this isn’t a statistic that was just posted in jest. The All-Star Game doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, and outside of a few years (from 2020 to 2022), not many players even take the game seriously.

And as a result of making the All-Star Game every season, James has more opportunities to lose than everyone else. Not that losing 11 times in ASG is a big deal for someone who has made it 22 times.

Has Lakers star LeBron James played his final All-Star Game?

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23) speaks at a press conference before the 75th NBA All-Star Game at the Intuit Dome

At age 41, it’s also an anomaly that James is still playing at such a high level that his All-Star Game participation can be argued on merit, unlike Dwyane Wade and Dirk Nowitzki in 2019, when they were the only participation nods.

It’s not at all clear if this is the Lakers star’s final season in the NBA. But if that’s the case, he may have just played his final All-Star Game, because there’s no way he’s going to miss the ASG next year if he’s active and healthy.

Luka Doncic’s honest confession in injury comeback at NBA All-Star Game

LOS ANGELES — As he explained Saturday, it was a short stint for Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic during the NBA All-Star Game. Doncic took the court for the first time since suffering a minor hamstring injury during the Lakers’ win against the Philadelphia 76ers on February 5.

During his media availability session as part of All-Star Weekend, Doncic admitted that he was only going to play a little bit in the actual game, and that his hamstring injury was looking good. Sure enough, Doncic only played five minutes in the first game of Team World’s new All-Star format, sitting out the second game. He finished with two points and two assists while shooting 1-3 from the field.

After Team World’s exit from the new All-Star Game tournament, Doncic explains how his injury felt after getting back on the court

“It was cool. Obviously I wanted to be there, the fans voted for me to be in this game so I wanted to be there and be a part of it a little bit,” Doncic said. “But [my hamstring] I liked it.”

Doncic missed four consecutive games after the injury. The Lakers went 3–2 in those games. They came into the All-Star break with a 33–21 record and fifth place in the Western Conference standings. They are only one and a half games behind the current No. 3 seed Denver Nuggets, but only one and a half games behind the No. 7 seed Phoenix Suns and the play-in spot.

As the Lakers try to build some stability during the final stretch of the season, one thing they are counting on is staying healthy. Injuries have forced the Lakers to shuffle their lineup, and while they have a full roster available, they have yet to find a consistent extension.

Doncic thinks that’s the main thing for the team to finish strong over the next few months.

“Just health,” Doncic said. “We are struggling with injuries a lot, so this will help.

In his first full season with the Lakers since the trade, Doncic appeared in 42 games at a rate of just over 35 minutes per game. He averaged a league-leading 32.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.6 assists and 1.5 steals while splitting 47.3 percent shooting from the field, 34.5 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 78.1 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The Lakers will resume play after the All-Star break on Friday, February 20 at home against the LA Clippers.

Raptors grade after 2 deals at 2026 NBA trade deadline

The Toronto Raptors moved from a position of relevance to the 2026 NBA trade deadline. Not just play-in relevance, but legitimate home-court playoff position in a loaded Eastern Conference. That context matters when evaluating their viewpoint. Rival contenders began aggressive roster swings. However, Toronto’s front office opted for fiscal discipline and a change in surgical depth rather than headline-grabbing moves. outcome? Two trades that quietly reshaped their margins without touching their core. Was that an example of strategic intelligence or competitive hesitation?

From reconstruction to bracket danger

The Raptors have emerged as one of the Eastern Conference’s most pleasant surprises. They headed into the All-Star break with a 32–23 record, sitting solidly in 5th place. After a disappointing 30-win campaign last year, the “new-look” Raptors have flourished under coach Darko Rajakovic’s fluid offensive system. As a result, it currently ranks third in the league in assists per game (29.3). The uptick in performance has been largely attributed to the health and chemistry of their core trio. First up is Scotty Barnes, who is playing at an All-NBA level with a 19/8/5 stat line. Next up is Brandon Ingram, whose scoring gravity (21.8 ppg) has revitalized the half-court offense. Last up is Immanuel Quickley, who continues to provide elite spacing and playmaking.

Toronto’s offensive identity has developed in constant motion. Barnes starts, Ingram bends the defense from mid-post, and Quickey stretches pick-and-roll coverages beyond his comfort zone. This has made the Raptors much less predictable than last season. It has also transformed them from a transition-heavy outfit into a balanced scoring machine.

Despite the strong record, the season was not without setbacks. The frontcourt has become a revolving door due to Jakob Poeltl’s lingering back injury. This has forced Colin Murray-Boyles into crucial minutes sooner than expected. Yes, this young player has immense defensive ability. As noted, the lack of experienced players led to mid-season inconsistency and some big losses against an elite frontcourt.

However, Poeltl’s recent return has stabilized the rotation. Toronto is now top 10 defensively. Thus, the Raptors have established themselves as a dangerous “bracket-buster” threat capable of upsetting higher seeds. That competitive base framed every decision they made at the deadline.

Here’s what the Raptors did and didn’t do at the trade deadline.

Deal 1: Salary dump and future plans

The first transaction was less about basketball and more about the balance sheet.

Toronto received:Chris Paul
brooklyn received: Ochai Agbaji, 2032 second-round pick (via TOR), cash
LA Clippers received:Draft rights to Vanja Marinkovic

It was a purely financial maneuver. By extending Agbaji’s contract and absorbing Paul, the Raptors slipped below the luxury tax limit. Paul had fallen away from the Clippers and was already hinting at retirement. It’s no surprise that he never suited up for Toronto. Instead, CP3 was waived on February 12 and formally announced his retirement the next day.

From a roster standpoint, nothing changed. However, everything went well financially. Eliminating the tax preserved future flexibility and mid-tier exception access. Toronto also avoided repeater-tax implications that could have hampered their roster construction for years.

In short, the Raptors paid a modest second-round pick to reset their financial runway.

Deal 2: Frontcourt Insurance Policy

The second step addressed the Court’s actual need.

Toronto received: Tracy Jackson-Davis
received the golden state: 2026 second round pick

Poeltl’s health remained uncertain and Murray-Boyles carried heavier loads than planned. In that context, GM Bobby Webster targeted cost-controlled rotational bigs rather than chasing blockbuster names.

Jackson-Davis brings vertical spacing, rim running and defensive energy. Those attributes should complement Toronto’s ball-movement system. His contract structure, including a minor team option next season, adds value beyond this playoff push.

Most importantly, the Raptors avoided overpaying. He kept an eye on high-profile large companies across the market but refused to surrender premium draft capital for short-term upgrades. It wasn’t the big star-sized splash that many fans were expecting. Instead, it was a profound acquisition.

Resilience vs Firepower

Toronto’s dual-track approach reflects fiscal discipline and incremental depth. This signals a front office confident in its internal development curve.

The core of Barnes, Ingram and Quickley (add RJ Barrett as well) remains untouched. His developmental arc was prioritized over disruptive roster swings. By staying within the tax bracket and preserving first-round picks, the Raptors positioned themselves for big offseason moves if necessary.

Jackson-Davis, meanwhile, represents the type of invaluable rotation piece that playoff teams rely on when injuries inevitably arise. From a risk-management perspective, Toronto had a clean performance. On the other hand, championship races are rarely won on caution alone.

Stand firm even as rivals increase

Context shapes perception, and the context of the Eastern Conference was offensive. Cleveland strengthened its roster with star power. Boston reinforced its frontcourt. Other claimants took steps that clearly indicated the urgency of the title.

Toronto, in contrast, chose conservation over growth.

The question becomes inevitable: Did they miss any windows?

With an abundance of tradable first-round picks, the Raptors had the ammunition to pursue a major upgrade. This was especially true in the frontcourt. Giving more opportunities shows the front office views this season as competitive but perhaps not championship-ready yet.

It’s a defensive stance, but one that risks leaving modest playoff gains on the table.

practical but inactive

Grade: C+

Toronto’s deadline wasn’t bad. It was simply measured and, of course, boring.

The positives look good on the balance sheet. They avoided the taxpayer label, preserved financial flexibility, and added a large functional rotation at minimal cost. The Raptors protected their young core and retained draft capital for future blockbuster moves.

That said, the downsides and opportunity costs remain. Toronto’s restraints could potentially limit his range. Raptors look a little darker but not necessarily more dangerous. Their playoff fate still depends on health, internal development and matchup variation rather than reinforced star power.

Ultimately, the Raptors chose stability over urgency. That kind of patience could prove either wise or painfully conservative. The upcoming playoffs will decide.

Bickerstaff Embraces ‘Special Opportunity’ to Lead NBA All-Stars

LOS ANGELES – Bernie Bickerstaff coached in nearly 1,000 NBA games over 14 seasons and also served as an assistant coach. The only time he coached in the NBA All-Star Game was as an assistant coach back in 1979.

So, when Bickerstaff’s son, J.B., finally became an NBA All-Star Game head coach in his fourth head coaching position, the Detroit Pistons head coach truly had appreciation to be the first in his family to achieve that honor.

“I rub it in his face all the time,” a joking J.B. Bickerstaff said with a laugh recently to Andscape. “No, I don’t, but you realize that as long as he was in the NBA, nothing for us is guaranteed and nothing is promised. So, it’s one of those things where it’s like, you cherish the opportunity to get where you are. As an assistant coach or in the NBA period, it was nine years before I participated with anybody in the playoffs. The first eight years of my career, we were done in March or April.

“You understand that no matter whatever happened the season before doesn’t mean that next season is promised to you, the opportunities are there or whatever it may be. So, you just don’t take those things for granted. And it’s special for me to be able to walk in my dad’s shoes and continue to even push that forward.”

Bickerstaff earned the 2026 NBA All-Star Game head coach honor after the Pistons locked in in the Eastern Conference’s best record through Feb. 1. This marks his first All-Star selection and the first for a Pistons coach since 2006. Bickerstaff will be coaching the USA Star team in a new three-team format at the 2026 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday in Inglewood, California.

Simply put, Bickerstaff described the opportunity as “awesome.”

“It is. I’m not going to lie,” Bickerstaff said. “Again, just taking a moment to look back to where you come from to get to where you are now and the people that it impacts. All your assistant coaches, their families, all that stuff matters the most and the experiences that you’ll get going through it all.

“I hope what people can learn from my story is resilience. Interviews that I’ve done for jobs, been fired, never laying down and giving in, showing up every single day with the right attitude. The way you treat people, the way you care about people, it matters. And it’s put me in a place where I’m at now and I’m extremely lucky.”

Bickerstaff has turned the Pistons from a rebuilding franchise to a championship contender this season since being hired as head coach on June 30, 2024. The Denver native has previously held interim head coaching positions with the Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers before being named head coach. The Pistons entered the NBA All-Star Break with an Eastern Conference-best 40 wins.

The following is a Q&A in which Bickerstaff talks about the challenges of his coaching career, Pistons All-Stars Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duran, the influence of his father, the importance of Black History Month and his pride as an African American, teaching his biracial children about the beauty and challenges that come with being Black, the ups and downs of his coaching career, coaching in predominately Black Detroit, advice he would give aspiring Black coaches and more in two separate interviews with Andscape.

What’s your appreciation for being an NBA All-Star head coach from where you came from?

You don’t think about it a lot when you’re in it. So, things happen like this and then it gives you an opportunity to reflect on what’s happened. Just thinking about being an interim head coach in Houston, making it to the playoffs with that team, the expectation of, well, now there’s an opportunity where you have shown that you could do the job to get another job and then that doesn’t happen. So, then I go to Memphis with Fiz [David Fizdale], interim [head coach] again, coach for a year, and then let go at the end of the year. Again, not getting another opportunity, go to Cleveland as an assistant, get that job and then build a program the way that we did, a program that we were proud of.

I was coach [John] Beilein’s assistant [in Cleveland], and he resigned 50 games in. And then I was elevated to coach at that point. There was no interim, it was just coach. And then we built something there. Thought we did a great job. They made the decision to let me go. I ended up [in Detroit]. It’s worked out in a way that I don’t think was imaginable. We talk about it as coaches in our group [chat]. Things happen to you when you go through difficult times and if you handle them the right way, when you come out on the other side, you’ll be in a better position. And that’s where I feel like we are now. Being here with this team, with [Pistons general manager] Trajan [Langdon], with [Pistons owner] Tom [Gores], this is where we were supposed to be.

Do you think that it’s probably not well-known that Detroit was the first full-time head coach job you got without being an interim first?

I think you’re always hunting that idea of like, okay, people view me as a head coach now. I think that’s when it’s either you’re in one place for a long enough time and you accomplish enough or someone else makes the decision to bring you in and hire you and then it makes the job different. When you find a level of success or you get a job in that way, it makes you feel viewed as a head coach in the league, if that makes sense.

When you got let go from Cleveland, where were you at mentally at that time? Was it pretty tough? Months later, you landed the Pistons job.

It wasn’t easy, I’ll say that. And for me, it’s never easy because there’s other people involved in it. If it was just me, you can handle things differently. But when you got a wife and kids and assistant coaches who have wives and kids, all of that eventually comes on you. I think that’s what it’s been in all the situations where I’ve been let go, that’s the most difficult part about it. I feel confident that I would be okay one way or another, but all your assistant coaches are let go also. Especially when you don’t have a job and an opportunity to just bring them with you and make sure they’re taken care of, it isn’t an easy move in your family. Your kids have to go through so much, especially depending on their age. All that stuff made it difficult.

I was at peace with the job that we had done there. So, it wasn’t like a thing where I felt like we failed. We did the job we were asked to do. It wasn’t a matter of like, ‘Okay, we failed.’ It was a matter of they made a decision, you did the job you were supposed to do. What do you learn from it? How do you get better from it? I think there was about a month in between there where I was just kind of like, ‘What am I doing every day?’ But it helped me get to a place of like extreme comfort with myself and clarity to know when the next opportunity came what it would look like.

The Pistons were a struggling franchise when you took the job in 2024. Did anybody try to disparage you from taking this job?

No, because obviously I talked to my dad a ton. And he was on the road scouting and watching a ton of these games and he was like, ‘That team suits you and it’s where your strengths lie.’ What I believe my strengths are is allowing young players to grow and help them reach their potential and impacting an environment where you breed competition, you breed confidence and you breed trust and there was opportunity here for that. Some people you would hear saying, ‘Don’t take that job because you wait a year, you’re going to get a better one with a better team.’ But you just watched this group and studied this group and there was something that just drew me to them and it felt like it was going to be a match.

Did you expect the Pistons to go from rebuilding to best record in the East this fast?

When you were with the group every day, you knew there was a ton of potential there. I couldn’t tell you that I would say that a year and a half later we’d be coaching the All-Star Game and be in first place, but I knew we were going to grow, I knew we were going to continue to get better and we had the pieces. The biggest thing for me also I trust Trajan totally because Trajan is the type of person that understands team and how to construct a roster. I think the small, subtle moves that he made last [season] and then even this [season], that helped elevate this team and I trusted his vision and plan.

Isaiah Stewart was suspended seven games for leaving the bench area, aggressively entering an on-court altercation, and fighting during a recent game against the Charlotte Hornets. Jalen Duren was also suspended two games for initiating the altercation and fighting. Is there any message needed to be given to Isaiah and Jalen about the importance of keeping their emotions with is at stake for the Pistons this season?

We need to move on from that.

How do the Pistons move forward from those suspensions?

Our guys have done it all year long. They stay moment to moment and take advantage of the opportunity that is in front of them. Whether it has been injury or adversity when guys have been called upon they have stepped up. Think of guys like Daniss [Jenkins] and Paul Reed. Whenever they have been called upon, they have lived up to the moment and the team has supported them and helped them be successful. That’s how we move forward. We hold the fort down until our guys get back. We will miss those guys while they are out but the strength of our team has been our depth and we will contribute to use that as a weapon.

Nic Antaya/Getty Images

What it means to have two of your players, Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren, in the NBA All-Star Game?

It’s awesome, man. Again, I think about them a ton and what they went through the year before we got here. What they went through that year was not easy. And for them to still have the resolve to want to stick together and improve together, they deserve all the awards that they can possibly receive. They could have very easily been frustrated and be like, ‘Man, I’m not doing this. This is our third or fourth coach in three years.’ Or whatever the heck it was. ‘Let’s go somewhere else together.’ But they didn’t.

They stuck together. They work out together in the summers. They spend time together. They lift each other up. And I think that’s the most important part and the fun part about it, watching guys go through that and then finding a way on the back end of it to work their way to where they are now.

The only time your father coached in the NBA All-Star game was as an Eastern Conference coach assistant in 1979 under then-Washington Bullets head coach Dick Motta. Has your father told you any stories about that appearance?

He was with the Bullets at the time and it was in Pontiac, Michigan. It was February 1979 and my mom was pregnant with me and she was there. So, I was there.

With the Pistons having the East’s best record, do you talk about trying to win the franchise’s first title since 2004?

We’re all about the process. We talk about today every single day. That helps control the emotional ups and downs. If you’re looking at big picture views of 10 games and all that, there’s so many different things that can vary. But if you can stay in the moment and focused on that, it helps your team continue to get better because you’re just attacking the problem that’s in front of you.

Your players were excited that you earned a spot as an NBA All-Star head coach. What did that mean to you?

It’s just the nature of this group. Text messages, phone calls, hugs. They are so happy for everyone. They want to see everybody succeed. We have guys that play different roles. They come in, like Dannis Jenkins, for example, comes in and nobody’s mad that he’s taking somebody else’s minutes. They’re cheering them on.

We had a game in the fourth quarter where Chaz [Lanier] came in against the [Chicago] Bulls and we end up winning that game because he’s making huge shots for us down the stretch. And nobody’s pulling away from that in his moment. They’re all pushing and cheering for him. So, it’s one of those things where that’s the nature of the group. They just want everyone to get what they’ve got coming to them.

How do you handle the chip on the shoulder of this tough-minded group and keep it moving in a positive direction?

I don’t. This is who we are. And we’ve grown this year from last year at being able to control our emotions in it. So, coming into the year, we always have these themes. So, this year’s theme is, ‘Control the chaos.’ So, we want to push people to that level, but then we want to be in control of our emotions while they’re scrambling. And our defense is based on that. Our offense is built on that. Our identity is built on that. We’re trying to push people’s limits in all ways we can.

Who in your family’s most excited about you coaching the NBA All-Star Game?

My mom. She still watches every game. She lives it, she breathes it. I get text messages from her about it. My dad and I talk every single day. But I know my mom, and this is like with me being the youngest and being the youngest boy, she’s invested in it in a different way.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

It’s a celebration of accomplishments of people who have knocked down barriers, people who have been resilient, people who have opened doors and created opportunities for all of us to be in the positions that we’re in now. It’s a celebration of the story of people overcoming such difficult circumstances and being able to continue to fight and find the good in a lot of places that were very dark at times. And it’s just an important part of all of our history, but the fact that it’s highlighted in the way that it’s highlighted in February allows others to share in it as well.

How did your parents teach you about Black history as a child?

It was every day. It was told to us through stories of our parents and of our grandparents and their shared experiences. For me, I’m still of an age where some people may think it was so long ago. But my father in particular was in school in segregated schools and living in Kentucky where race relations weren’t always the best. So, [it was] being able to have conversations with him about the journeys that he went through, the experiences that he went through, the changes that he was able to see over time.

Similarly with my mom, my mom was in San Diego but was from Louisiana and they would drive back from San Diego to Louisiana and have to go through those Southern states. And the stories she would tell us of her travels and what her father would have to do to make sure that they were safe and the places that they could stay in the hotels or rooms that they could rent for the night. That’s where it became such a part of our life and how much it meant to them from what they’ve been able to see to where they’ve been able to go and then what they were able to provide for their kids because of it. It just became a part of our life that we cherished and valued.

Any story that stands out that your mother and father told you?

My grandfather [my mother’s father] would literally have to leave them parked on the side of the road and walk up somewhere to see if they were allowed to stay in a certain place or a hotel. My dad, he’s told the story before about he was playing at one of the white schools and he dove into the stands and one of the white kids tried to pull his pants down. And their coach of the other team told his coach not to worry about it because those kids were told that Black people had tails and they were trying to see what my dad’s tail looked like.

You and your wife, Nikki, have three biracial children. How do you talk about race with your children?

They’re at an age now where just literally [recently] we sat down and had a conversation about it. They are very fortunate in their experiences and the opportunities that they have. But I want them to be mindful of the difficult things and the beautiful things that our history has shown us and the pride that they should take in being a part of that story and making sure that that story isn’t lost with them. That they continue to be a part of the story and share the stories with their friends, with their families moving forward, because there is so much value in it and it’s something to be proud of.

What is the beauty and also the challenge of being in an interracial marriage with biracial kids in terms of learning your history?

That’s the thing. To me, in a time where I feel like it’s much needed, there’s opportunities to learn from our differences, accept our differences. But at the end of the day, you find love where you find love. And that’s what I think is an important story to tell. We come from different places just in our country in general right now. And right now, I feel like those differences are being used to divide us instead of us appreciating those differences and being able to respect those differences and come together. That’s where I am with my wife and my family is like, we are learning each other’s experiences in a different way, the way that it impacts our kids. You hear both sides — their relationships with other Black kids, their relationship with white kids.

There is good and bad in both. Some of the things, that colorism amongst Black kids, you still hear the acceptant piece of it. You still hear no matter who you are, if you look like us, you’re one of us. So, it’s a very interesting dynamic that I’ve had to learn and navigate, and my family’s had to learn and navigate. But I’ve been blessed with three amazing kids because of it and [I’m] trying to help them through their journey, with the message of being proud of who you are, allowing others to be proud of who they are, but accepting them for who they are at the same time.

Because of the wealth that you’ve attained and the status as an NBA head coach while also living in a predominantly Black town in greater Detroit, do you try to seek out things where they could have Black experiences or is it just naturally a part of your environment?

It’s more of a family thing, to be honest with you. Because of the sports that they’re in and the level of competition of sports, they don’t have much free time. My sister and her daughters just moved out here. So, for us, it’s more about putting them around family. And then through sports also, they meet people and experience people that look like them. And that’s where they find the majority of it is through sports, school, and family.

What’s the coolest thing about being Black in Detroit?

Just the love that you get from the city of Detroit is amazing. No matter where I am, it’s a sign of pride from the city and the people that I’ve met that I’ve been able to get to the position that I’m in and coach their team. And I don’t take that for granted. We try to do a job with the mindset of how many people are out there pouring into this Pistons team and how many people from our community love this Pistons team. I feel that love every time I’m out in the streets or anywhere.

You can just feel how proud people are and how much they want to be a part of this Pistons group and the Pistons history as a whole. You go all the way back for me into ‘The Bad Boy’ eras. There’s a connectedness to the community here that’s loud and they wear it proudly.

What notable Black athletes or figures did you get a chance to meet because of your father that stays with you today?

Magic Johnson. Julius Erving. Those were guys that when I was really young, they were bigger than life to me. And those are people who I got enabled to meet through my dad because of it. K.C. Jones was my brother’s godfather and one of my dad’s closest friends who gave my dad his first job in the NBA. So, there’s so many people that I was fortunate enough to meet because of him that it was weird because it was almost normal.

I was a ball boy for his teams in Seattle and it was guys like Xavier McDaniel, Dale Ellis, Shawn Kemp, Derek McKey and all those guys like Nate McMillan. I would just be at practice every day, so they just felt like regular guys to me. One of the guys who I have a great relationship here who’s from Detroit is Jalen Rose. My dad drafted Jalen Rose when he was in Denver and I used to wear Jalen Rose’s shoe. He would give me his shoes to play basketball in when I was in high school. So, it’s like what was normal for us, I sit back now and think about just how abnormal it was and how fortunate I was to be in that position.

There are going to be two Black head coaches in this NBA All-Star Game. San Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson won the honor in the Western Conference. What does it mean to you to have two African American coaches and what do you hope comes from people seeing that?

Of all the major sports league, the NBA and the owners of teams in the NBA have gotten it most right as far as allowing and providing opportunities and trusting Black coaches to lead their franchises and to lead their organizations. When given equal opportunity, there’s so many qualified people out there who are capable of doing the job. To me, that’s what’s changed over time is just the opportunity.

I think about guys like my dad, Wes Unseld Sr., Al Attles, K.C. Jones, all these guys that broke down barriers for people like myself to be in the position that I’m in, that Mitch is in. When you get the opportunity, you need to be mindful of that, of all those people that came before you, you do have a responsibility to continue that and push that forward.

What did you think of Lenny Wilkens’ legacy and also his passing last year?

It was sad, obviously, when he passed away. I’ve knew Lenny since I was probably six years old. He gave my dad his first head coaching job with the Seattle SuperSonics. He went on a trip to the Bahamas with us. It was like a celebrity game that was put on, and he and my dad were the coaches. I believe Magic Johnson put that celebrity game on, if I’m not mistaken. So, I’ve known him literally the majority of my life and admired him at a level because of the way he carried himself, the class at which he did the job, how long he survived and lasted in a tough business. He was the President of the Basketball Coaches Association for a long time. So, I have a ton of respect for him. And even when I was in Cleveland, he would call me and check on me and see how I was doing and ask me if I needed anything.

It’s guys like that and mentors like that, that just opened doors for us but then took care of you afterwards. They didn’t just bust it down. They busted it down and stayed around to make sure that we were all okay in moving through the process.

What advice would you give a young Black man or young Black woman considering trying to get into the basketball coaching ranks?

I’ll give the same advice that I was given by my dad, and that was to work twice as hard as everybody else around you and work to be twice as good. I would find every opportunity that existed to work and show people that I was willing to work. My dad set me up when I was younger. Every summer I would work the Euro Camp and then I would work the Chicago Pre-Draft camp every time I was given the opportunity. We used to do those group draft workouts and I would run the group draft workouts that all the executives would come to. We had ‘Grg’s Camp’ [Tim Grgurich] in the summer that we would all go to and the executives would be there. It opened opportunities where people got a chance to see you as an assistant coach to and see what your talents were and what your skillset was. That would be my thing: wherever there is work to be found, go find it and go do a great job at it.

LeBron James announces retirement at NBA All-Star

For another year, LeBron James has chosen to have his NBA All-Star press conference different from others, and of course, that’s led some to believe that big news is coming. To get this out of the way, James was asked what his plans would be for retirement, and he gave the same answer he has been giving for some time.

“I want to live…when I find out, you guys will know. I don’t know,” James said.

Honestly, it doesn’t seem like James is focused on retirement just yet, as he’s still playing like he has a lot left in the tank. Just before the All-Star break, he recorded a triple-double in the Lakers’ win against the Dallas Mavericks, becoming the oldest player in history to do so.

After the game, he talked about how he knew when it was time to call it quits, and that it was more about falling out of love with the process than a decline in his play.

“My game is not going anywhere,” James said, via Dave McMenamin. “It’s all these other things, it’s a lot of other factors that go into how long the game has to be played. I don’t think it would ever have any impact on my game if I decided to continue playing, no matter how long it is. I think it should be [my mind]:How long can I stay in love with this process?

“If I can’t continue to be in love with this process, if [my mind] If it goes, my body is going to go. And once my body is gone, it’s a cover.

James still looks to be in good shape and is putting up big numbers even at his age. Even though he knows the time to put on the jersey may come soon, as long as he can get on the field and give it his all, he’s keeping the thought of retirement in the back of his mind.

Ace Bailey reveals Devin Booker gave ‘Welcome to the NBA’ moment

Utah Jazz rookie Ace Bailey may be bursting with gravity-defying highlights in his first professional season, but even the league’s brightest young stars have to be humble eventually.

During the Rising Stars media availability at the Intuit Dome on Friday night, the 19-year-old forward finally opened up about his official “Welcome to the NBA” moment. Unsurprisingly, it featured one of the league’s most lethal scoring machines: Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker.

That moment was a simple, cold-blooded masterclass in mid-range. Bailey explained that trying to guard the four-time All-Star is a nightmare for any defender, let alone a rookie.

He said when it comes to Devin Booker, you’re dealing with a signature fadeaway shot that is almost impossible to stop without fouling. Bailey jokingly recalled thinking, “Bro, come on,” as he realized the level of difficulty he now faced every night.

Bailey, who stepped in as an injury replacement for Cooper Flagg on Team Melo in the Rising Stars game, is certainly playing the way he plays. Over his last 15 games, the fifth overall pick has averaged 11.7 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 45.0 percent from the floor. He brought that momentum to the Rising Stars Tournament, leading the Carmelo Anthony-led team to a 65-60 victory over Team Austin in the semifinals.

While Dylan Harper stole the spotlight with the game-winning bucket, Bailey’s defensive versatility was on full display throughout the evening. Team Melo ultimately fell short in the championship game and lost to Team Vince 25–24 after VJ Edgecombe iced the game at the free-throw line.

Derrick Queen’s ‘Welcome to the NBA’ moment courtesy of Joel Embiid

New Orleans Pelicans rookie Derrick Queen has been one of the pleasant surprises this season with his impressive all-around play. After a slow start, he has learned to adjust and has become a consistent performer for the Pelicans.

Queen was named as one of the participants in the Rising Stars at All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles. This is a major accomplishment for the 21-year-old center, as the NBA has acknowledged his hard work and talent.

While Queen has certainly held his own against the giants, he admitted that his welcome moments in the NBA were against two established big men.

“I got cooked twice. By Embiid and by AD (Anthony Davis),” Queens said in a video posted by Yahoo. game.

Queen didn’t point to a game where he was embarrassed by Embiid, but it was certainly fresh in his mind, as the Pelicans and 76ers had just faced each other on Feb. 1.

Queen had nine points on 3-of-8 shooting, six rebounds and two assists. Embiid, on the other hand, had a game-high 40 points on 13-of-27 shooting, 11 points, four assists and two blocks.

The Pelicans and Mavericks have met three times this season, with Davis scoring only once and scoring a game-high 35 points on 16 of 28 shooting. He also grabbed 17 rebounds and two assists. Queen was not too weak with 19 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals.

The Atlanta Hawks selected Queen, who starred for Maryland, with the 13th overall pick. He was traded to the Pelicans on draft day in exchange for Asa Newell and a first-round pick.

VJ Edgecombe gives up NBA championship pursuit after Rising Stars win

Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe has officially added the first of many awards to his NBA career: Rising Stars MVP.

Taking the court for Team Vince Carter, Edgecombe scored back-to-back game winners and clearly looked like the best player on the court whenever he wore the jersey, which is high praise indeed, considering players like Derrick Queen were also participating in the event.

And yet, as pleasing as it is for Edgecombe to secure the tournament, as was the MVP trophy that came with it, Edgecombe was not ready to rest on his laurels. No. When asked about his win after the game, Edgecombe explained that he was happy to get his first championship win of the calendar year, even though he would like to add another win to his resume in a few months.

“It feels so good, man. It feels so good, baby. For Philly, baby,” Edgecombe declared. “You know, hopefully that championship at Rising Stars will be the first championship I get this season.”

On paper, Edgecombe’s confidence was evident in terms of both his individual performances and the quality of his team. While Daryl Morey famously didn’t add a player to his roster before the trade deadline, instead opting to trade forward Jared McCann for four draft picks and Eric Gordon with one pick, the 76ers are still a top-6 team in the Eastern Conference and could theoretically punch their ticket to the NBA Finals for the first time in the Joel Embiid era if things don’t go their way this spring. Given that Edgecomb ranks second on the team in minutes, it’s safe to say that Philly will be counting on him to deliver them to the promised land early and often in May and June.

North Carolina A&T wins NBA HBCU Classic with thrilling game-winner

North Carolina A&T mounted a miraculous comeback that ended with a game one win, clinching victory in the NBA HBCU Classic.

North Carolina A&T and Hampton, who both compete in the Coastal Athletic Association, were invited to compete in the latest edition of the NBA HBCU Classic. The date and time of the game has changed from previous editions, as the Classic usually takes place on the Saturday afternoon before All-Star Saturday night.

The game was still thrilling, and its ending was worthy of the huge stage the NBA gave it. As the clock expired, the Aggies were down 70 to 68. North Carolina A&T guard Trent Middleton Jr. brought the ball upfield and was able to penetrate the defense and hit an acrobatic layup that went through the basket. He was also fouled in the game, resulting in an and-one which he ultimately converted at the free-throw line.

With 4.5 seconds left, Hampton still had a chance to cruise to the win. But Jalike Gaines-Wyatt’s floater went out and the Aggies prevailed. Gaines-Wyatt and forward Xavier Long both had 17 points for Hampton, who looked like they would go on and secure the win. For the Aggies, Middleton Jr. tallied 15 points, including the game-clinching one, and Lewis Walker had 18 points, with Will Felton contributing 12 points off the bench.

With the win, North Carolina A&T has snapped a four-game losing streak and are set to face Charleston on Thursday at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, Hampton was on a two-game win streak after defeating Elon and William & Mary, and will host Hofstra on Thursday at 8 p.m., with the game being televised on CBS Sports Network.

Keshad Johnson(+320)

Jackson Hayes drops truth bomb in NBA Slam Dunk Contest

LOS ANGELES – For the first time since 2019-20, the Los Angeles Lakers have a participant for the Slam Dunk Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend in the form of big man Jackson Hayes. Dwight Howard competed in the championship for the last time in his lone season with the Lakers. Howard did not advance to the final round that season, with Derrick Jones Jr. taking home the hardware.

Jackson Hayes is the sixth Lakers player to be selected for the Slam Dunk Contest, but only Kobe Bryant has won the marquee event of NBA All-Star Saturday Night. Hayes is now attempting to become the second player in franchise history to bring home the trophy.

Over the past few seasons, the Slam Dunk Contest has come under increased scrutiny from fans, media, and players alike, and the contest has lost some of its luster compared to previous years. But for Hayes, he’s just trying to go out there and have fun, and try to bring excitement back to the competition.

“I want to bring as much fun and life back to this competition,” Hayes said during his media availability session. “Me and the guys were talking about it, we just want to make it a show. Just try to bring the dunk contest back in the best way possible, just go all out and have fun, and make it entertaining for people to watch.”

Hayes has wowed fans with some impressive dunks in games this season. He is good for Luka Doncic in almost every game. But the one that stood out so far this season was his Eastbay dunk, which he threw down during the Lakers’ win against the Chicago Bulls on January 26.

The inspiration for that dunk came when Hayes’ Lakers teammates made fun of him for throwing an ambiguous dunk on a fastbreak.

Hayes said, “At the beginning of the game my teammates were making fun of me. I had a fastbreak and I just did a simple two-handed dunk. Not hanging on the rim or anything, just dropping it in.” “Everyone was teasing me, they were all messing with me. I got a steal late in the game and I was just remembering the guys who were teasing me earlier and making fun of me, so I was like, ‘Okay I’ll do something.’

As far as Hayes’ production for the Lakers, he has been one of the team’s most consistent players this season with his energy and effort. He has appeared in 45 games, including seven starts, at a pace of just over 17 minutes per game. He is averaging 6.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 77.2 percent from the field.

Spurs’ Carter Bryant falls short in NBA dunk contest despite perfect 50 slams

When the San Antonio Spurs selected Carter Bryant with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the consensus was that he was a raw prospect who would need at least a few years to develop before becoming a reliable contributor. The organization took the risk, in part, because of his attractive athletic talent. This feature was put on display during the 2026 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Bryant stunned fans inside the Los Angeles Clippers’ Intuit Dome on All-Star Saturday and scored 50 across the board after an East Bay slam in the second period. The 20-year-old forward fell short in the finals against Miami Heat’s Keshad Johnson, but still put in a great performance in his native California.

Bryant jumped off the floor and performed what might have been the best dunk of the night. Unfortunately, he missed a sure chance of winning the competition and was forced to settle for second place. The former Arizona talent can still take great pride in posting a perfect score.

Bryant still has a lot to learn, but he’s already making remarkable progress in his first NBA season. The 2024 McDonald’s All-American is enjoying a promising February, averaging 9.0 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 44.0 percent from 3-point range in just 16.7 minutes per contest. One can only learn a lot from a six-game sample size, but the young player is quickly earning the trust of his teammates and the coaching staff.

He should also earn more fans after his viral jam. Keep an eye on Carter Bryant.

Damian Lillard thrills the NBA world by winning the 3-point contest

Last postseason, Damian Lillard suffered an Achilles injury while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks. Less than 10 months later, he is again wearing a Portland Trail Blazers uniform and winning his third 3-point contest in the last four years. Welcome to the twilight zone.

The star point guard, who hasn’t played a game this season and likely won’t, overcame long layoffs and fierce competitors like Devin Booker and rookie Kon Knuppel to reclaim his throne during NBA All-Star Weekend. He joined Larry Bird and Craig Hodges as the only players in NBA history to win the championship three times. Booker was poised to snatch the trophy, but Lillard’s 30-point performance in the final round came up short.

Although it’s been a while since the seven-time All-NBA selection took an official 3-pointer, fans got a reminder that it’s still really dam time.

Damian Lillard surprised people

@JDCowboys2 commented, “He’s seriously one of the greatest players to ever do it, he won the three-point contest with half an Achilles.” @rozaydaghost commented, “This guy has really been through a lot and is almost in tears.” “w“A wonderful chapter is added to his story.”

“From Achilles tear to 3x 3PT champion in just one year?” @loftymimi surprised. “The Dame is created differently. Pure inspiration.” While many fans were surprised by Lillard’s still-smooth shooting stroke, others were equally surprised by the NBA’s decision to allow him to compete in the All-Star Weekend staple despite missing the entire campaign. Someone clearly lost the chance to enter the 3-point contest due to the 35-year-old’s involvement.

@YoungSixtus expressed, “Crazy talent but let’s be real – ranking a guy who played 0 games compared to active shooters this season feels like pure NBA entertainment marketing.” “Congratulations Dame.”

“This is a blatant insult to the rest of the league,” declared @coldog05. “Damian Lillard is dominating a skills competition here while doing virtually nothing else all season. Crazy.”

Whether or not fans believe Lillard should have competed, he deserves ample praise for outshining everyone else at less than full strength. History will remember this event for the skill and tenacity of the nine-time All-Star, and will likely also forget the lack of NBA minutes he logged this season.

Perhaps more than anything, this surprising performance gives Blazers fans a big reason to look forward to next season.

Nikola Jokic is already advising horses at NBA All-Star Weekend

Denver Nuggets cornerstone and proud Serbian Nikola Jokic is passionate about horses and horse racing, but he’s not the most animated person when speaking in front of a camera. The contradiction between his private life and public life was on display during a media session at NBA All-Star Weekend.

When the (seemingly) young Texan was asked “what kind of horse” he should get, Jokic offered a simple but honest explanation.

According to the Oh No He Didn’t “But I don’t know which one is the best… maybe the most expensive, that would be the best (laughs).”

Jokic is probably bombarded with questions about horses all year long, as it’s one of the only things people really know about the man beyond his supreme basketball talent, love for the music of his native country, and the fact that he was modeled on a Taco Bell commercial. The five-time All-NBA First-Team selection probably has a lot of knowledge about horses, but perhaps this wasn’t the right time or place for him to talk in detail about one of his most iconic breeds.

Still, this reaction would lend credence to the notion that Jokic is one of the most reckless superstars in recent memory. He’s certainly not the only standout player to display a reserved personality – San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan comes to mind – but there’s a growing perception that the 30-year-old center dislikes the attention. A column about his allegedly brief exchange with a Serbian folklore group after last Saturday’s win against the Chicago Bulls only added to fans’ curiosity.

No one knows what to expect from Nikola Jokic when he is in the public eye, because he is truly an enigma. However, there is no mystery as to what will happen on the court. The sensational big man is averaging a triple-double for the second consecutive season, leading the league with 12.3 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game and ranking in the top-10 with 28.7 points per contest. Had he not missed 16 games with a knee injury he would have certainly been an MVP favorite.

Jokic is a hoops expert and an avid horse owner. Those sides of him are different, but apparently they resonate with the public in the same way. He will start in his sixth consecutive NBA All-Star Game, then turn his attention to the second half of the 2025-26 campaign and then return to his favorite spot when his Nuggets close on business for the summer.

Tennis Scoring Explained: Why is it 15, 30, 40 and Love?

Tennis Scoring Explained: Why is it 15, 30, 40 and Love?

Whether you are watching Rohan Bopanna dominate the doubles circuit or catching the thrill of a Grand Slam final, tennis is a sport that captivates millions in India. However, for a beginner, the scoring system can seem like a complex riddle. Why do they say ‘Love’ instead of zero? Why does the sequence go from 30 to 40 instead of 45?

In this guide, we break down the unique world of tennis scores to help you enjoy the game like a pro.

The Basics of Tennis Scoring

A tennis match is divided into three parts: Points, Games, and Sets. To win a game, a player must win four points. However, these points aren’t called 1, 2, 3, and 4. Instead, they are announced as:

  • 0 Points: Love
  • 1st Point: 15
  • 2nd Point: 30
  • 3rd Point: 40
  • 4th Point: Game

Why 15, 30, and 40?

The origin of this system is steeped in history. The most popular theory traces back to medieval France, where players likely used a clock face to keep track of the score. The minute hand was moved a quarter-turn for every point: 15, 30, and 45. Eventually, 45 was shortened to 40 for ease of pronunciation during intense rallies.

The Mystery of “Love”

For many Indian viewers, hearing a commentator say “15-Love” sounds peculiar. In tennis terminology, “Love” means zero. The most widely accepted theory is that it comes from the French word for “the egg”—l’oeuf. Just as a cricket fan calls a zero a “duck’s egg,” tennis players used the round shape of an egg to represent zero. Over time, “l’oeuf” evolved into “Love.”

Deuce and Advantage

Tennis requires a player to win by a margin of at least two points. If the score reaches 40-40, it is called a Deuce. From here:

  1. A player must win two consecutive points to take the game.
  2. Winning the first point after deuce gives the player “Advantage.”
  3. If they win the next point, they win the game. If they lose it, the score returns to Deuce.

Games and Sets

In most professional matches, you need to win at least six games to win a Set (leading by at least two games). If the set score reaches 6-6, a Tie-break is played to determine the winner of that set.

Conclusion

While the tennis scoring system might seem traditional and quirky, it adds to the prestige and drama of the sport. Understanding the logic behind 15, 30, 40, and Love allows you to follow the momentum of the match more closely. So, the next time you tune in to watch a major tournament, you’ll know exactly why the umpire is calling out those famous numbers!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Why is zero called “Love” in tennis?

It is believed to come from the French word “l’oeuf,” meaning “the egg,” which represents the shape of a zero.

2. Why does the score go from 30 to 40 instead of 45?

Historically, it was 45, but it was likely shortened to 40 because it was quicker and easier for umpires to shout out during a game.

3. What does “All” mean in tennis scores?

If both players have the same score, the umpire adds “All” at the end (e.g., 15-All or 30-All), unless the score is 40-40, which is called “Deuce.”

4. How many sets are played in a tennis match?

In men’s Grand Slams, it is usually “best of five” sets. In most other tournaments and women’s matches, it is “best of three” sets.

5. What is a “Golden Set” in tennis?

A Golden Set is when a player wins a set without losing a single point (24 points to 0).

If you’ve ever watched a tennis match and thought to yourself, what’s going on here? You’re not alone.
The numbers are weird. 15, 30, 40… why not just 1, 2, 3?
Tennis scoring is confusing and it’s ancient, going back to a time even before tennis rackets.
While tennis players have redefined what’s possible on the court and equipment manufacturers have innovated the tools we use to play tennis, the scoring hasn’t changed for centuries.
But maybe it’s too stuck in the past?
The President of the Tennis Hall of Fame even blamed the score system for tennis’ lack of popularity relative to other spectator sports.
So, that begs the question – why do we use it? And why does it exist in the first place?

Kawhi Leonard expects players to ‘compete’ in 2026 NBA All-Star Game

Ahead of LA Clippers veteran Kawhi Leonard’s seventh All-Star Game appearance, he expects a competitive schedule despite not fully understanding the new format. Leonard led the Clippers’ hard-fought 105-102 win against the Houston Rockets.

According to NBA on Prime Insider Chris Haynes, he said, Leonard is also expecting a competitive night.

“It’s going to start with the starters, whoever gets there first,” Leonard said. “For me, personally, we need to get back to the way it was, and if guys are going to play hard, they’ll play hard. I think it will be competitive this year. I don’t know what the format is like. But hopefully, guys are competing. They usually do, but it’s also an All-Star Game.”

The NBA’s new USA vs. World format will feature three teams – Team World, USA Stars and USA Stripes – each with eight players, competing in a round-robin tournament.

Leonard will play for Team USA Stripes alongside Houston Rockets’ Kevin Durant, Los Angeles Lakers All-Star LeBron James and New York Knicks All-Star Jalen Brunson, as well as Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown and Cleveland Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell. Brandon Ingram of the Toronto Raptors and De’Aaron Fox of the San Antonio Spurs are replacing injured All-Stars Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Bucks.

Lakers All-Star Luka Doncic, Denver Nuggets two-time MVP Nikola Jokic and first-time All-Star Jamal Murray will play for Team World. Alperen Sengun of the Rockets, Karl-Anthony Towns of the Knicks and Victor Vembanyama of the Spurs are also on the team, as well as first-time All-Star forwards Danny Avdija of the Portland Blazers and Pascal Siakam of the Indiana Pacers.

Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards will join Team USA stars along with Phoenix Suns All-Star Devin Booker, Philadelphia 76ers’ Tyrese Maxey and the Detroit Pistons’ All-Star duo of Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren. The Raptors’ Scottie Barnes is also on the team, along with Oklahoma City Thunder forward Chet Holmgren, who is making his first All-Star appearance.

Kawhi Leonard’s opinion on Clippers’ Darius Garland trade

Clippers veteran Kawhi Leonard discusses Darius Garland following the Clippers’ trade with the Cavs during All-Star weekend. While Garland recovers from a toe injury, Leonard can’t wait to join the team’s offense when healthy.

“I believe he was probably about 20 or 21 years old when I first came here,” Leonard said. “He was probably in his third year in the league, so he just kept working and over time he transitioned from being the guy that stayed in the fourth quarter and held down the fort for us in the paint. Also became very efficient in the post, creating mismatches or double teams on guys his size.

“His development has been great, he’s playing well, and he’ll still have a chance to win at Indiana when Tyrese comes back, and they get their whole group together. I told him, it’s not the worst, so just enjoy your kid, and he’ll get a chance to play for a championship.”

The Clippers have won three of their last four games before the All-Star break.

How LeBron shaped Victor Wembanyama’s path to becoming the face of the NBA

As NBA All-Star festivities continue at the Intuit Dome, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama acknowledged the influence of Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James on his understanding of what it means to be the face of the league.

Wembanyama spoke during the NBA’s All-Star media day on Saturday, reflecting on James’ two-decade tenure at the center of the sport’s spotlight.

“He’s very intelligent in the areas in which he’s obviously the face of the league. And in two decades, very few mistakes like very few PR mistakes, so I think there’s definitely some intelligence required. I think there’s a lot of things to learn from him. I’ve never had a chance to spend time with him to have a full discussion and I would love to talk to him… I don’t know how many millions of basketball players there are on Earth and they could all learn something from LeBron.”

The comments come as Wembanyama heads into his third NBA season. The 22-year-old is averaging 24.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.7 blocks and one steal per game, while shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from three-point range in 40 games.

LeBron James’ blueprint shapes Victor Wembanyama’s rise as the next face of the NBA

San Antonio entered the All-Star break with a 38–16 record, good for second place in the Western Conference, and are on a six-game winning streak. Spurs’ progress has fueled growing conversation about Wembanyama’s place among the league’s elite.

Earlier this week on NBA Today, former center Kendrick Perkins declared Wembanyama the new face of the NBA, citing his production, global appeal and willingness to be in the spotlight. The buzz has heated up as Spurs position themselves as contenders in the West.

For Vembanyama, the blueprint is clear. James, now in his 22nd season with the Los Angeles Lakers, has risen to stardom by consistently excelling on the court. From performance to professionalism, Vembanayama looks to the four-time champions as a model for longevity and leadership.

As the league looks toward its next era, the intersection between James’ legacy and the rise of Wembanyama is shaping the narrative around the future of the NBA.
