Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham Hotspur wanted to bring him back to the Premier League when he was at Paris Saint-Germain. His comments will draw interest as they come as he is again being linked with a move to Spurs.

Argentina is now in charge of the United States, who will host the World Cup with Mexico in the summer.

He has so far managed Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham, PSG, Chelsea and now the US national team.

The 54-year-old spent a long spell as manager at the north London club between July 2014 and November 2019.

Pochettino’s record with Tottenham is a far cry from where it is now.

Since leaving Tottenham, he was without a job for over a year until he was appointed by PSG in January 2021. The Premier League side wanted to bring their former management back to the club that year.

Tottenham contacted Pochettino

Team have now published a detailed interview with the former Chelsea boss, where he talks about Spurs’ approach.

In April 2021, Spurs parted ways with Jose Mourinho and appointed Ryan Mason as interim boss for the remainder of that season.

They wanted a new manager for the 2021/22 season and Nuno Espirito Santo was brought in to replace Antonio Conte in November. The London club contacted Pochettino before Nuno’s arrival.

The newspaper specifically asked if it was true that Tottenham had contacted him after his first six months at PSG.

“Not just Tottenham. Other very big clubs too,” He said.

When asked if he wanted to leave PSG, Pochettino explained: “When that six-month season ended, there was a bit… Well, with this whole COVID situation, the situation at the club created instability in every area.

“There was a period of change, uncomfortable situations, circumstances… (He thinks about his words.) It did not give the impression that it was possible to work in a stable environment, as we have today. I enjoyed my experience at PSG. But I had other options, which I shared with the club, but they decided not to listen to any of them.”

Pochettino had stints in England with Southampton, Tottenham and Chelsea and when asked if he missed English football, he said: “I miss the world of football in England. I love the country, its culture, the football culture. For anyone with a competitive spirit who wants to measure themselves against others and test their limits, this is the ideal place. Here, you have to constantly give your best.”

Why is this encouraging for Tottenham?

Mauricio Pochettino’s admission of missing English football could be a sign he wants to return to England. Spurs, now 17th, can try again if they avoid relegation this season.

Earlier this month, he Real Madrid job flirted withWhen he went to Spain to watch his former club lose to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Igor Tudor, who replaced Thomas Frank in February, will only be in charge until the end of the season. Tottenham are in need of a new permanent manager and may look to their former boss after the World Cup.

The tournament will run from June 11 to July 19 this summer. Even with Pochettino in charge, it’s unlikely the American team will go all the way. However, they have a good chance of getting out of their group as they face Paraguay, Australia and Pathway C’s yet-to-be-qualified teams.

The first knockout round will run from July 4 to July 7, and if the US team is successful, the quarterfinals will take place from July 9 to July 11.

The 2026/27 Premier League season begins on 22 August. Hypothetically, this gives Mauricio Pochettino plenty of time to come back to Tottenham Hotspur and get the preseason going… just in case you were wondering.

Mauricio Pochettino found himself at the center of an unusual scene upon arriving in Madrid this week Tottenham Hotspur supporters on the same flight Singed to Argentina and asked him to return to North London.

The moment came shortly after the former Spurs manager stopped by to speak with a Spanish TV program chiringuito. The interview soon turned to another job linked to him in recent weeks: Real Madrid.

Pochettino did not dismiss the speculation outright. Instead, he reacted calmly and accepted that rumors are inevitable at that level of football.

When asked about the growing rumors linking him with Real Madrid, Pochettino gave a typically measured answer. He acknowledged that positive speculations about his future are always welcome.

Real Madrid connection addressed

During the brief exchange, the interviewer also asked about Pochettino’s relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.

Their bond is very old. Ahead of the 2019 Champions League Final with Tottenham, the Argentine used sarcasm and humor to respond to rumors of a move to Real Madrid.

Perez took the joke cordially. Later, Pochettino dismissed the noise, telling the Spanish outlet that “he is a president who defined an era”. Mark. “I’m glad Florentino understood my comments. I have great affection for him and Real Madrid and it was never my intention to upset him or the club.”he adds.

This time however, Argentina avoided causing controversy and instead insisted that it maintain good relations throughout the game.

“I have always had very good relations with almost all the clubs,” he explained. “Not only with Madrid, but also with many others. There are always things that connect us, there is a special bond between us.”

Although the comments were diplomatic, the setting made the entire moment especially interesting. He was welcomed on the plane by Tottenham supporters, openly hoping for a reunion, before he disembarked and asked questions about Real Madrid.

For Tottenham fans, this scene only enhances the ongoing affection between Pochettino and the club.

The Argentine is one of the most respected figures in Spurs’ modern history. During his five-year tenure in north London, he led Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League Final and established them as regular contenders for the Premier League top four.
