Sport Witness covered a report This week it was said that Brighton had made their move for the winger. It is said that he made a ‘monster bid’ for the young player.

March was seen as his real big moment, with two goals in a 4–0 win against BK Håkan followed by another important goal against GAIS in the quarter-finals of the Svenska Cupen.

He made his Allsvenskan debut in April with a sensational solo winning goal in a win over Halmstads BK. He is currently on a five-goal involvement in seven league games, which is another demonstration of his impressive talent.

Now Brighton and Newcastle are battling for his signature, set for a record sale in the Swedish top flight.

Luka Doncic close to breaking Stephen Curry’s record after strong start against Pacers

The Los Angeles Lakers continued their late-season streak by defeating the Indiana Pacers 137-130 on Wednesday night behind another stellar performance from Luka Doncic. The Slovenian star finished with 43 points, seven assists and six rebounds, his league-leading 14th 40-point game of the season.

Setting the pace early, Doncic scored 21 points in the first quarter, his eighth instance of a 20-point span this season, approaching Stephen Curry’s 2015–16 record of 11. He reached 11 consecutive 30-point games, equaling the longest streak in the last 20 years.

The 27-year-old has been historically productive during this period, averaging 40.7 points on the Lakers’ six-game road trip, the first player to average 40 over that span since Michael Jordan in 1986-87. He currently leads the NBA in scoring with 33.6 points per game.

Doncic shot 15 of 30 from the field and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line, including five 40-point games in his last 11 outings.

Los Angeles (47-26) took control of the game early and went on a 10-0 run to lead 45-28 after one quarter. They led by 29 points and entered the fourth quarter ahead 105–85 before Indiana (16–57) made a late push to cut the margin to six in the final minute.

LeBron James contributed 23 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, while Austin Reaves finished with 25 points and eight assists. Jackson Hayes recorded his first double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Playing without Deandre Ayton, Rui Hachimura and Marcus Smart, the Lakers finished the road trip 5-1 and have now won 13 of their last 15 games. They sit in third place in the Western Conference with nine games remaining and next host the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night.

Why Kevin Porter Jr. believes he needs to break Bam Adebayo’s 83-point record

Milwaukee Bucks guard Kevin Porter Jr. recently shared why he thinks he needs to surpass Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo’s 83-point performance, pointing to Kobe Bryant’s legacy as a major inspiration.

Porter Jr. made the comments while reacting to Adebayo’s historic run during a recent livestream.

“I’m trying to drop 80 [points]. shout out kobe [Bryant]Shout out to Bam because I’m definitely beating him one day. Now that Kobe has lost, I have to defeat Bam to honor Kobe.”

Adebayo’s 83-point game is now the second-highest scoring performance in NBA history, trailing only Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game and surpassing Bryant’s iconic 81-point performance with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2006.

The 25-year-old Porter Jr. is currently in his sixth NBA season and his first full campaign with Milwaukee, where he has taken on an expanded role in the backcourt. Through 38 games, including 36 starts, he has averaged 17.4 points, a career-high 7.4 assists, 5.2 rebounds and a career-high 2.2 steals per game, while shooting 46.5% from the field, 32.2% from three-point range and a career-high 87.8% from the free-throw line in 33.2 minutes per contest.

The surge in Porter Jr.’s scoring has already been evident in his career. The highest performance of his career came during the 2020–21 season with the Houston Rockets, when he recorded 50 points, 11 assists, and five rebounds in a matchup against the Bucks in late April. In that game, he shot 16 of 26 from the field, 9 of 15 from three-point range, and 9 of 11 from the free-throw line in 41 minutes.

Adebayo’s performance has sparked league-wide discussion regarding milestones achieved and the pursuit of records, with players and analysts reflecting on the circumstances surrounding the historic night. However, Porter Jr. remains focused on competing and respecting the standard set by Bryant.

Milwaukee is coming off a challenging season, entering the finals with a 29–42 record and 11th in the Eastern Conference standings. Despite the team’s struggles, Porter Jr.’s individual production has been a bright spot as the Bucks look toward the future.

The Bucks are set to conclude their four-game road trip with a matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers (36-37) on Wednesday night at 10:00 PM ET. Milwaukee is entering the contest coming off a 129-96 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night.

As the season ends, Porter Jr.’s comments reflect his confidence and the broader impact of Adebayo’s historic performance, which continues to resonate throughout the league.

Toumani Camara sets franchise record on career night vs. Nets

Portland Trail Blazers forward Toumani Camara remained one of the most underappreciated players in the NBA on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets.

Camara led the Trail Blazers to a lopsided 134–99 win over the Nets, scoring a career-high 35 points and nine three-pointers. He made 10 of 12 shots from the field, including 9 of 11 from beyond the arc. He also had three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Portland won four of its last five assignments to improve to 36–37. They are just one game behind the Los Angeles Clippers for eighth place in the Western Conference.

Camara, who is in his third season in Rip City, set a new team record with his career night.

“Camara’s 35 points are the most on 12 or fewer field goal attempts in Trail Blazers history,” the team’s official account on the

He also set two milestones after getting hot from three-point range.

“Camara’s 9-for-11 (.818) three-point shooting performance marks the most made three-pointers by a @trailblazers player since February 26, 2023 (Damian Lillard) and the best three-point percentage with at least 10 three-point attempts since April 27, 2021 (Anfernee Simmons),” the Trail Blazers said.

The 25-year-old is having a breakout campaign, averaging career-best 13.0 points and 2.5 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 steals. He could make a case for a nod to the All-Defensive Team or get some votes for Most Improved Player.

Camara, who hails from Belgium, was drafted by the Phoenix Suns as the 52nd overall pick in 2023. However, he was shipped to the Trail Blazers as part of the three-team deal that sent Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks.

He has slowly carved out a role in Portland, building an upstart core with Denny Avdija, Donovan Clingan, Shadden Sharp and Scooter Henderson.

Robert Parish congratulates LeBron James for breaking the record for games played

Recently, the Los Angeles Lakers picked up their ninth consecutive win with a narrow road win over the Orlando Magic. Its hero was Luke Kennard, who inexplicably got wide open on the final play of the game and buried a three-pointer to give Los Angeles a one-point victory.

In this game, Lakers star LeBron James passed Boston Celtics legend Robert Parish for the record for most regular season games played in NBA history and now, Parish himself has taken to social media to congratulate James on the feat.

“Congratulations on passing the most games played 1611!! It’s a great moment for me as you continue to strive for greatness/excellence with grace and respect for the game!!” Parrish wrote on X, formerly on Twitter.

James has indeed accrued 23 years of NBA advantage on his body, but has still continued to produce at a high level, recently having a stretch of several games where he made 20 of his last 21 shots.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are playing their best basketball at the right time this season, separating themselves from the pack in the race for the third seed in the Western Conference, and are currently on a nine-game winning streak, with many of those wins coming against playoff competition.

During the hot stretch, James has been more willing to outplay both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in the Lakers’ offense, but more importantly, Los Angeles is playing much better defense with quicker rotations, better on-ball defense and communication than at any other point in the Doncic era.

Los Angeles will look to make it ten consecutive wins when it takes the field for a road game against the Detroit Pistons on Monday evening.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander says Wizards ‘know what they’re doing’ despite 16-54 record

Washington DC. – There’s an old sports adage that the final score is deceiving, and that’s what happened in the Washington Wizards’ 132-111 home loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. The Thunder led 103–96 after three quarters before pulling away in the final period, but the Wizards held on, earning the respect of reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The three-time All-NBA First Teamer was asked what is his advice For Washington’s youth core postgame, via Double Take Sports’ Carita Park.

He said, “I honestly think they’re on the right path. As we saw tonight, they have guys who compete, and I think that’s the first thing.” “You want guys who play with edge, who aren’t afraid, who just want to go out and fight. Not physically, but in terms of basketball.”

Everyone in the room laughed, as the last comment referred to the viral clash between the two teams just before halftime. After Wizards forward Anthony Gill hit a five-foot shot, Thunder forward Jaylin Williams began scuffling with Wizards forward Justin Champagne as he was about to kick the ball out. Oklahoma City guard Ajay Mitchell then charged forward and jabbed Champagnie, who hit him in the face with an open hand. Michelle charged Champagne, start an all-out brawl Which spread in the fan section of Baseline.

Gilgeous-Alexander pulled Mitchell to the bench, and the fight ended before Champagne, Williams, Mitchell and Thunder guard Cason Wallace exited. Champagnie and Williams received double technical fouls, while Mitchell and Wallace also received technical fouls to add to the conflict.

Gilgeous-Alexander continued after the game, “That’s half the battle in the NBA. Every night, suit up and go to work.” “I think they have that. And then they have some vets, obviously, made some trades with AD [Anthony Davis] and try [Young]. There are two very proven guys in the NBA, so they will help once they get on the floor. well trained, i know bk [head coach Brian Keefe] very well. He was here my freshman year in OKC, so I know what he’s about. [General manager] Desire [Dawkins] Plus, they know what they’re doing. I think they’re on the right track, they check all the boxes. Have to focus on getting better every day, and they will eventually get where they want to go, as long as they come to us.

Thunder provides model for Wizards’ rebuild

Oklahoma City represents the ultimate goal for Washington, as it wins the 2025 NBA Finals and currently leads the league with a 56-16 record. General manager Sam Presti made the move through a number of smart moves like landing Gilgeous-Alexander from the Los Angeles Clippers for Paul George in 2019, drafting All-Stars Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren in the 2022 lottery, acquiring All-Defensive guard Alex Caruso from the Chicago Bulls for Josh Giddy in 2024, and drafting Mitchell in the second round in 2024. Has built the NBA’s deepest roster since. The latter player is averaging 14.2 points on 48.9% shooting (34.8% 3-point), along with 3.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 26.2 minutes.

Dawkins, who held the ranks on Presti’s staff from 2008 to 2023, is leading his own version of the Thunder’s journey. The Gilgeous-Alexander trade marked the beginning of Oklahoma City’s rebuild, as the team lost in the first round of the 2020 playoffs before going on three consecutive losing seasons. Head coach Mark Daigneault won Coach of the Year honors after the team went 57–25 in 2023–24. It was bounced in the second round of the 2024 postseason, but defeated the Indiana Pacers in last year’s Finals.

Dawkins began the Wizards’ rebuild by trading Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns for Chris Paul in the summer of 2023, a move that ultimately led to Young’s deal in January. Along the way, they traded for guard Bilal Coulibaly on draft night, selected big man Alex Sarr, guard Bub Carrington and guard Trey Johnson in the lottery, selected forwards Keyshawn George and Will Riley outside of the lottery, and selected guard Jameer Watkins in the second round last summer. Additionally, they gave Champagny a standard contract last season after emerging from the G League into an NBA rotational piece, and they acquired Davis from the Dallas Mavericks in February without giving up necessary assets.

Now, Washington is finishing its third and final tanking season before landing another top-eight selection in the draft with superstar prospects like BYU’s AJ DiBuntsa, Kansas’ Darrin Peterson and Duke’s Cameron Boozer. While the Thunder never traded for stars as Gilgeous-Alexander was entering his second season in 2019, both organizations dealt away expensive veterans in Beal and George and temporarily sacrificed wins to develop young talent.

Coulibaly, Sarr, Carrington, George and Johnson have all earned Rising Stars honors, while Riley is averaging 14.5 points on 44.2% shooting (37% 3-point) in 33 minutes in March. Watkins, who averaged 8.6 points on 53.7% shooting (40% 3-point) with two steals in March, signed a standard deal in February.

The next step for the Wizards is to learn winning habits as they aim to break into the Eastern Conference playoff picture next season. When Daigneault was asked what habits his team has adopted over the years to get to this level, aside from the classic answers like “hard work” and “talent,” he opened up about ClutchPoints pregame.

“It’s mostly classic answers,” he admitted. “I think if you bring up successful players, like Shai is a great example… there’s no mystery to what he’s doing. He’s doing the very fundamental things you need to do to be great. He’s doing them all the time, consistently, in all situations. But I think it’s pretty fundamental to him and the team. At least we emphasize that. We have talented guys… but it’s nothing good. Individual defense, transition defense, floor spacing, when two If there are people passing to you, can you do it consistently and be disciplined, committed in all situations with all players.

Washington must learn to defend, as they rank last in the NBA with a 120.7 defensive rating. There are plenty of silver linings, however, including Coulibaly getting his shot. The 21-year-old averaged 16 points on 44.2% shooting (41.7% 3-point) in 30.1 minutes in March, which is better than his career average of 10.6 points on 42.5% shooting (31.3% 3-point) in 29.1 minutes. He led the Wizards with 21 points (8-15 FG, 3-5 3-point) in 34 minutes on Saturday.

Keefe, who was an assistant with the Thunder from 2007 to 2015 and 2019–20, spoke about Koulibaly’s performance after the game.

He said, “I think he’s just growing… you know, he’s had some beginnings and endings with some injuries, and I think he’s just finding his rhythm.” “I think he’s taken advantage of his opportunity. We’ll obviously put the ball in his hands. He’s been playing downhill, but he’s playing pretty good basketball here.”

Whether Washington’s young core develops enough to reach Oklahoma City’s level one day remains to be seen, but the team is being rebuilt by two guys who helped develop one of the league’s best teams.

Next up for the Wizards is a road game against the New York Knicks on Sunday at 7:30 PM ET.

LeBron James makes NBA history with record of great games

LeBron James’ longevity is extraordinary. The Los Angeles Lakers star is already 41 years old and in his 23rd year in the league, and yet he is still playing at a high level. On Thursday night, James tied Robert Parish’s record for most games played in a career.

After starting in the Lakers’ game against the Miami Heat, LeBron has played a total of 1,611 games, tying Parish’s record. James will certainly break some records this season and beyond, provided he plays the rest of the year.

Drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, James has played 23 seasons in his NBA career. Although the Lakers star missed a few games here and there, the sheer amount of years he played meant that sooner or later he was bound to break this record. Games played by James spanned Cleveland, Miami and Los Angeles.

His longevity is the biggest reason why many fans consider him the greatest player in NBA history. Even at the age of 41, the Lakers star is still averaging 21.4 points per game on efficient shooting (shooting 51.4% from the field). He’s also adding 6.8 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game. Although he is not the focal point of the Lakers’ offense as before, he has still been an integral part for them this season.

Due to his age, there is talk in the league about James’ possible retirement after this season. Although the Lakers star has not clearly stated that he will retire after the 2025-26 season, this decision is still lingering in every fan’s mind as the season progresses. However, for now he and the Lakers are focused on winning another championship. Los Angeles enters its game against Miami as the third seed in the highly competitive Western Conference, and is on track to make the postseason.

LeBron sets the record straight on Las Vegas expansion rumors

The Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James is not part of any group bidding for an NBA expansion team in Las Vegas. The rumors arose when James’s Fenway Sports Group was initially reported to be considering a bid for a Las Vegas expansion team. The city, along with Seattle, has emerged as a leading candidate for one of two new NBA franchises.

Although FSG has rejected an extension that is reportedly set to cost up to $8 billion per team, James has publicly stated that he is not part of any group bidding for a Las Vegas team, according to a post on X by ESPN’s Tim McMahon.

“No, I’m not. Not at all,” James said.

LeBron, who has a net worth of more than $1.4 billion, will undoubtedly need a team of investors to take charge of an NBA franchise. However, with FSG reportedly backing out, it is now considered “less likely” that LeBron will pursue franchise ownership.

Regardless, as things stand, the NBA Board of Governors is continuing discussions, with a formal decision expected in 2026 and a potential launch timeline of the 2028-29 season. Las Vegas has emerged as a primary expansion market due to its established presence in major professional sports.

The city currently hosts teams in the NFL, NHL and WNBA, with an MLB franchise set to relocate there. The NBA has also had a consistent presence in Las Vegas through its Summer League, which has drawn more than 136,000 fans over 11 days.

Of course, LeBron James and FSG are no strangers to owning major sports teams. James’s association with the group has given him partial ownership in several franchises such as the Boston Red Sox (MLB), Liverpool FC (Premier League), RFK Racing (NASCAR), and the New England Sports Network (NESN).

The Lakers superstar and his partner Maverick Carter previously became partners in the group in 2021. However, James’ ambitions of owning an NBA franchise currently appear to be on hold, due to FSG reportedly refusing to meet the asking price.

De’Aaron Fox reveals what led to franchise record vs. Kings

On Tuesday evening, the San Antonio Spurs continued their winning ways with a blowout win over the Sacramento Kings. The win gave the Spurs their 19th win in their last 21 tries and allowed them to keep pace with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference.

In this, the Spurs made an astonishing 41 assists, and also broke the franchise record of 25 threes.

After the game, point guard De’Aaron Fox, who was playing against his former team in the Kings, spoke about why San Antonio was able to enjoy so much success on Tuesday night.

X, formerly of Twitter, said, “We enjoy playing together,” he said, according to Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News. “We enjoy seeing each other succeed. It makes sharing the ball a lot easier.”

Indeed, the Spurs have shown a remarkable team chemistry this year, despite this being the first full season this group has been together.

Of course, the head of the snake is superstar Victor Wembanyama, who didn’t have to do all that much in Sacramento on Tuesday, but the Spurs’ front office deserves credit for building an elite supporting cast around the former number one overall pick, which includes Fox, last year’s Rookie of the Year Stephen Cassel and an assortment of solid three-and-D wings, not to mention this year’s rookie standout, Dylan Harper.

It’s extremely rare that teams make deep playoff runs on their first attempt in the postseason, but this Spurs team may be the exception to the rule, as Wembanyama estimates there will be many sleepless nights for whichever coaching staff is tasked with gameplanning against him in a postseason setting.

The Spurs next take the field against a potential playoff opponent in the Phoenix Suns on Thursday evening.

Hughes sets Devils record; Matthews to Minnesota?

Jack Hughes did enough to re-establish himself as a New Jersey Devils loyalist by performing in the Olympics. Then he scored the golden goal. And amid his wild success last month, when he returned, he expressed his devotion to the Devils, which certainly put everyone’s minds at ease considering the Quinn Hughes debacle earlier this year.

Jack Hughes Sets Devils Record in Thriller OT Win vs. Bruins

Paul Couture is the New Jersey Devils’ best player and they have a goaltender across from them.

Hosting the Boston Bruins at the Prudential Center, Cotter scored the overtime winner, which also capped a three assist night for Jack Hughes, a new record holder for the Devils.

Just four minutes into the first period, the Devils’ defense was caught sleeping and the Bruins made them pay.

Henri Jokiharju’s shot from the point was blocked by Jacob Markstrom. However, the puck bounced off David Pastrnak, who was standing at the net-front the entire time, collected the loose puck, and slid it between Markstrom’s five-hole to give the Bruins a 1–0 lead.

The Bruins dominated the puck throughout the first period. About four minutes after the Bruins’ goal, Brandon Dillon and Mark Kastelic dropped mitts after New Jersey created tension in front of the net. Each got five minutes of majors to fight.

Boston kept the pressure on New Jersey, and eventually doubled their lead when Pavel Zacha finished off a stray chance headed by Viktor Arvidsson to make the game 2–0.

The Devils got off to a fast start in the second period and scored within the first minute of puck drop. Jack forced a turnover on neutral territory and began moving toward the Boston area. The Devils star fed Connor Brown, who was already behind the Boughton defense, provoking him for a breakaway, and he lowered the blocker side to cut the Devils’ deficit to 2–1.

Jack’s primary assist set a Devils franchise record, as he is now the fastest player to reach 400 points for New Jersey, reaching the milestone in 414 games.

The Devils remained all-out in the middle frame as they tried to erase their first period deficit. New Jersey’s top line continued to give the Bruins defense headaches. With just over eight minutes gone in the period, the Jacks made a quick move up the ice, feeding Brown in the middle of the ice, who then passed the puck to Jesper Bratt for a one-time chance in the right circle to tie the game at 2–2.

Just three minutes into the third period the Devils immediately took a 3-2 lead. Maxim Tsyplyakov drove to the net with the puck on his backhand, and fired it into the slot for Paul Cotter who scored.

Still, Pastrnak responded immediately by pulling off a slick toe-up of his own, and slid the puck to Markstrom, who the Bruins forward knocked out of position to restore the tie at three.

There was a barrage of penalties between the Devils and Bruins, starting with Kastelic’s hard hit on Cotter. Bruins forward Johnathan Kovacevic stepped up to drop the gloves, forcing Kastelic to fight for the second time on Monday.

New Jersey then committed three minor penalties, and Boston was whistled for one. Still, neither team took advantage.

The Devils and Bruins needed overtime, and the exciting period almost turned into a shootout.

However, Jack collected a loose puck in the neutral zone and pushed it to Cotter, drawing a streak across the ice. On a breakaway, Cotter scored the overtime winner to solidify the Devils’ second win in as many games.

Markstrom stopped 19 pucks on 22 shots to earn his 20th win of the season.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s record almost ends in race

We’re officially less than a month away from the end of the 2025-26 regular season, and the door on the MVP race appears to be closing. While Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama and others are trying to improve their resumes, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is on a collision course for his second consecutive MVP award.

Should the Oklahoma City Thunder star accomplish this feat and be named NBA MVP once again, he will join the list of greats to claim this award in back-to-back seasons (not including the ABA): Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Steve Nash, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic.

Will SGA become the 14th player to win consecutive MVP awards? After breaking Wilt’s record on Thursday, he’s on track to do so.

After recording 35 points in a 104–102 win over the Boston Celtics, Gilgeous-Alexander recorded his 127th consecutive game with 20-plus points, surpassing Chamberlain’s record of 126 games for most consecutive 20-plus point games in NBA history.

This is a historic accomplishment for the SGA, and it’s one of those records that you look at and wonder if anyone will ever surpass this mark again.

Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said of SGA’s historic success, “Number one, he’s skilled at his craft. There’s no one more precise than him at his craft.” “Number two, the entire life of the streak hasn’t stopped us from having a lot of success on the team and hasn’t stopped his teammates from being successful. An individual streak about scoring hasn’t come at the expense of the team or his teammates.

“He treats everyone in the building with respect from top to bottom. So, he’s obviously a great basketball player, but he’s such a guy that you couldn’t be happier when he accomplishes something like this. So, huge congratulations to him.”

The Thunder have looked like the team to beat over the final few weeks of the regular season, and Gilgeous-Alexander continues to take his game to new heights. Whenever you’re mentioned alongside Wilt, you’re doing something right, and in Gilgeous-Alexander’s case, it could be enough for him to claim the MVP award once again.

Previous ranking: #1

2025-26 season stats: 56 games, 31.6 points, 6.7 assists, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 54.9 FG%, 38.5 3P%

*Can only miss a maximum of 5 more games to remain eligible.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has continued to perform well since missing his 12th game of the season on March 3. Over his last three games, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 28.6 points, 9.4 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.3 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from 3-point range.

The Thunder currently find themselves on an eight-game win streak, and despite Jalen Williams still being out and others missing games due to various injuries, Gilgeous-Alexander is finding ways to get everyone involved.

He has recorded at least eight assists in four of his last five games, including a season-high 15 assists in a 129–126 win over the Denver Nuggets, a game in which Shai hit two big shots late in the game, including the game-winning three with 3.3 seconds remaining.

Shai is playing like the best player in the league right now, and barring some major incidents, he will win the 2025-26 MVP award.

2. Nikola Jokic – Denver Nuggets*

Previous ranking: #2

2025-26 season stats: 52 games, 28.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 10.5 assists, 1.5 steals, 57.3 FG%, 38.8 3P%

*A maximum of 1 more game can be missed to remain eligible.

Although the Denver Nuggets have been inconsistent recently, Nikola Jokic has been on the heater. Last week, he averaged 25.8 points, 15.5 rebounds, 13.0 assists and 3.3 steals per game, while shooting 55.2 percent from the floor.

Not to mention, Jokic recorded four consecutive triple-doubles, marking the third time this season that he has had four consecutive games with a triple-double. This season, Jokic has 27 triple-doubles in 52 games, which is 15 more such games than Jalen Johnson (12).

While it has been an MVP-like season for Jokic, his 16 missed games due to a knee injury and the Nuggets’ inconsistent play in the stretch run of the season have surrendered the MVP race to Gilgeous-Alexander. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where Jokic can pass Thunder guards at this speed without suffering any injury.

3. Victor Wembanyama – San Antonio Spurs*

2025-26 season stats: 52 games, 24.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 50.7 FG%, 36.5 3P%

*Can only miss a maximum of 3 more games to remain eligible.

Of all the MVP candidates this year, Victor Vembanyama may have an outside chance of reaching SGA and possibly impacting some first-place votes. That’s because the San Antonio Spurs are 3.5 games behind the Thunder for the top spot in the Western Conference, and they hold the season tiebreaker over Gilgeous-Alexander’s team.

As far as Wemby’s numbers are concerned, he has increased his efficiency and accepted the challenge of competing for the MVP award.

“Right now, I’m taking great care of my body because I want to win MVP and DPOY as well,” Wembanyama told Amazon Prime Crew after Saturday’s 115-102 win over the Charlotte Hornets. “So, I’m just trying to press the gas from now until the end of the season. Really take care of my treatment, take care of my sleep, take care of my routine and perform for my team.”

You have to admire the passion and struggle of the 22-year-old superstar. This season isn’t over yet, and with the Spurs having an outside chance to claim the 1-seed over Oklahoma City, Wembey’s MVP dreams are still alive.

2025-26 season stats: 60 games, 24.9 points, 10.1 assists, 5.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 46.1 FG%, 34.7 3P%

Can Cade Cunningham surpass Nikola Jokic in assists this year and win his first assist title? Currently, Cunningham leads the league in total assists (603) by a wide margin, but his 10.1 assists per game average still trails Jokic’s 10.5 assists per game.

However, Cunningham has shown some strides recently, averaging 11.9 assists over his last eight contests. Over this span, the Detroit Pistons guard has tallied six double-doubles, bringing his total double-doubles on the season to 37, which is the fourth most double-doubles in the league.

The Pistons remain the top team in the Eastern Conference standings, and Cunningham is the driving force behind their success. Don’t be surprised if he gets some first- and second-place votes for MVP this year. Still, he won’t get enough money to overtake Gilgeous-Alexander.

5. Luka Doncic – Los Angeles Lakers*

*Can only miss a maximum of 5 more games to remain eligible.

Luka Doncic is back in the top five of the NBA MVP rankings after briefly falling behind Jaylen Brown. The main reason they’ve taken over the No. 5 spot and could potentially jump higher between now and the end of the year is the Los Angeles Lakers’ surge in the standings at season’s end.

Los Angeles has won five straight games and eight of the last nine games overall to momentarily take over the sole possession of the third seed in the Western Conference. As far as Doncic’s MVP campaign goes, he has had his fingerprints on the Lakers’ success, averaging 33.2 points, 9.0 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game during a nine-game span for the Lakers.

Doncic has had incredible performances recently, scoring at least 30 points in five straight games, and that includes two noteworthy performances. The first was a 51-point game with nine triples made against the Bulls on Thursday, and he followed that with a 30-11-13 game with game-winning shots in overtime against Jokic and the Nuggets.

There’s no denying Luka’s dominance at the moment, which is why he’s back in the top five of the NBA MVP rankings. If his and the Lakers’ success continues into the final weeks of the regular season, there’s a chance they can continue to make a run in this race.

Jalen Green sets record for consecutive 30+ point games in loss to Raptors

The 2025-26 season has not been great for Phoenix Suns guard Jalen Green on the injury front. After missing a total of 21 games over the first four seasons of his career (including a total of zero for the last two campaigns), Green has missed 48 games this season due to hamstring problems. But it looks like Green is putting those injury troubles in the rearview mirror.

On Friday night, despite the Suns’ 122-115 loss to the Toronto Raptors in which he lost offensive fire in the clutch, Green made himself a peach of a ballgame. The fifth-year guard recorded a team-high 34 points on 13-25 shooting from the field (8-16 from beyond the arc) with five rebounds, four assists and one steal, and in doing so, he scored 30 points in two consecutive games for the first time this season.

Green scored 36 points in the win over the Indiana Pacers last night, and he’s looking healthy to the extent that he’s doing so despite being down two sets in a row to the Suns. This suggests that the team is not too concerned about the long-term stability of his hamstring.

His latest effort may end in defeat, but gaining a foothold late in the season helps Green at least cover for the absence of Dillon Brooks, who has been an offensive cornerstone for the Suns all season.

As things stand, the Suns will be faced with the incredible task of becoming one of the best teams in the West by making it through the play-in tournament. Currently their record is 39-28, but that puts them in seventh place in the standings.

There will be no rest for these tired Suns, as their next three games will be against extremely tough opposition. On Monday, they face the Boston Celtics, followed by games against the Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs.

How Kobe, MJ paved the way for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to break Wilt’s record

OKLAHOMA CITY – After breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record for most consecutive 20+ point games in NBA history, Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander revealed the players he most admired growing up. After Thunder coach Mark Daigneault put Gilgeous-Alexander’s streak into perspective, SGA reflected on the legends who came before him, such as Hall of Fame guards Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson.

Three Hall of Fame guards and the most memorable shooters helped mold Gilgeous-Alexander’s attack, including his knack for mid-range looks, a dying art of the game that is frowned upon in the modern, analytically-driven era.

Gilgeous-Alexander said, “I don’t think it’s necessarily me. I shoot honestly and I fell in love with the mid-range jump shot because of guys like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. Allen Iverson. If anything, he changed the game and how it’s played.” “They’re my favorite players and ones I try to model my game after. So, I try to apply that to today’s NBA. But if anything, it’s them.”

SGA has revealed that his father showed him Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson when he was a child. Kobe Bryant was his favorite. And as Gilgeous-Alexander continues to progress toward cementing his place as one of the greatest NBA players in league history, the win remains the most important amid the defending champions’ quest for a repeat.

Gilgeous-Alexander said, “If we weren’t winning none of the things I accomplished would matter. And I probably wouldn’t have most of them if we weren’t winning.” “And I know it and understand it. That’s why you play the game.”

The Thunder extended their winning streak to seven in a 104–102 win against the Boston Celtics, amid Gilgeous-Alexander’s 127th consecutive 20+ point game. SGA finished with 35 points.

Before Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s postgame media availability, head coach Mark Daigneault discussed what makes his reigning MVP so special. Daigneault It has been told Gilgeous-Alexander as a leading scorer, team leader and individual.

“Number one, he’s skilled at his craft. Nobody is more precise at his craft than him. Number two, the streak his entire life hasn’t stopped us from having a ton of team success and hasn’t stopped his teammates from being successful as well,” Daigneault said. “The individual scoring streak hasn’t come at the expense of the team or his teammates. And again, great father, great husband, great teammate.

“He treats everyone in the building with respect from top to bottom. So, he’s obviously a great basketball player, but he’s such a guy that you couldn’t be happier when he accomplishes something like this. So, huge congratulations to him.”

Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder will look to extend their seven-game winning streak when they host the Timberwolves at Paycom Center on Sunday.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander breaks Wilt Chamberlain’s 63-year-old 20-point game record

Whenever a player is being mentioned in the same sentence as Wilt Chamberlain, he has done something extremely rare and historic. That’s what Shai Gilgeous-Alexander accomplished, as the reigning MVP of the Oklahoma City Thunder broke a record that no one has come close to since 1963.

With another 20-plus-point scoring night, this time against the Boston Celtics on Thursday, Gilgeous-Alexander recorded his 127th consecutive game with 20-plus points, surpassing Chamberlain’s record of 126 straight games between 1961 and 1963.

This unfathomable record now belongs to the Thunder superstar, and SGA can extend his streak even further to keep it within striking distance, as Wilt did before.

Oddly enough, Chamberlain holds the record for most consecutive 20-point games (126), and also had the second-longest streak, ahead of Gilgeous-Alexander, at 92 games between 1963 and 1964. The only reason Wilt’s streak ended in 1963 and he had to restart was due to him being ejected just four minutes into the game for “abusive language” towards the officials.

It’s why Chamberlain’s streak of scoring at least 20 points in 126 consecutive games ended, and it’s why Gilgeous-Alexander’s name now tops the list in NBA lore.

This is a remarkable feat for Gilgeous-Alexander, and it puts him in the same great position as Chamberlain, who has all of his nearly-untouchable records, as well as LeBron James and his streak of 1,297 straight games scoring more than 10 points. Perhaps this is the next record on Gilgeous-Alexander’s to-do list, but he still has a long way to go to catch LeBron, as anyone would.

Passing Chamberlain is the latest major accomplishment for Gilgeous-Alexander, just eight years into his career.

The 27-year-old superstar won his first championship with the Thunder last season and was crowned the 2025 NBA Finals MVP. He also led the league in scoring until being named the 2024–25 NBA MVP. With approximately four weeks remaining in the 2025–26 season, Gilgeous-Alexander is considered the favorite to once again win the MVP award.

After tying Wilt’s record with a 35-point performance on Sunday, which included a game-winning 3-pointer against the Denver Nuggets, Gilgeous-Alexander took a moment to reflect on the history he made, and gave a humble response to what the accomplishment means to him.

“It’s still a lot to wrap my head around,” SGA said. “To be honest, I don’t even try to think about it, especially during the season. There’s a lot going on. A lot of things have to go right to get what you ultimately want. I’m 100 percent focused on that.

“Obviously, it’s special to interact with a guy like that.”

Not many players ever come close to recording similar numbers or breaking the record held by Wilt Chamberlain. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has done so in his eighth season, as he is the new record holder for most consecutive games with over 20 points with 127 games and counting.

David Edelman adds perspective to SGA, adding to Wilt Chamberlain’s record

OKLAHOMA CITY – Before facing the Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets head coach David Edelman put into perspective Shai Gilgeous-Alexander breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 126 consecutive 20+ point games. A record that took 63 years to break, Gilgeous-Alexander’s historic night will go down in history.

Before Gilgeous-Alexander accomplished one of the rarest feats in NBA history, Edelman provided proper reference During his pregame media availability.

“I don’t know if people realize how hard it is to do that. To score 20 points in 10 (straight) games, not 120, no matter what, it’s special. He’s a special player,” Jokic said. “It’s a pleasure and a privilege to play against him.”

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, after Gilgeous-Alexander’s game-winning 3-pointer topped Monday’s 129-126 win against the Nuggets, the All-Star and fellow MVP candidate Nikola Jokic congratulated SGA for tying Chamberlain’s record for consecutive 20+ point games in NBA history.

“I don’t know if people realize how hard it is to do that. To score 20 points in 10 (straight) games, not 120, no matter what, it’s special. He’s a special player,” Jokic said. “It’s a pleasure and a privilege to play against him.”

The Nuggets will face the Thunder for the last time this season when they host the defending champions on April 10.

Mark Daigneault reveals SGA’s ‘superpower’ after Thunder win

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault reflected on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as a player, leader and person after Monday’s historic night where SGA held the Nuggets to a game-winning three in a 129-126 victory.

Daigneault said, “He never presses. He has incredible situational awareness, awareness of the length of the game; I think that’s one of his superpowers.” “He understands how long the game is. So, he can make the right plays, knowing he’s going to hold his own. If he misses a shot early, he knows there’s still more to play. He’s always in it mentally. I think that’s why he’s as consistent as he is.”

Gilgeous-Alexander turned to his supporting cast early and often, and they undoubtedly did not disappoint as the Thunder’s Jaylin Williams finished with 29 points, including a career-high seven threes and 12 rebounds. Ajay Mitchell led the way off the bench with 24 points in his first game back from an abdominal strain and left ankle injury.

Daigneault said, “I thought his passing tonight was really cool. Even ordinary people weren’t supportive.” “They doubled him all night. He got over it early, like it happened with Ajay [Mitchell] Even late, Ajay got Hardaway there. It’s just a simple game before defense. She played a very good floor game tonight. Obviously, a great finish. A great player.”

The Thunder have won seven consecutive games.

Michael Jordan’s first Sports Illustrated cover sets record with 6-figure sale at auction

Everything Michael Jordan touches turns to gold, even beyond his playing years. Their NASCAR team is off to a historic start, which is just one example of this.

This dynamic was evident at a recent auction, where his historic first cover on Sports Illustrated sold for a record $229,360, according to Black Enterprise’s Cedric ‘Big CED’ Thornton.

This cover is from 1983 when Jordan was at the University of North Carolina. This includes him and his Carolina teammate Sam Perkins. Ultimately, the record sale came through a Goldin auction.

The sale surpassed the previous record set by another Sports Illustrated cover featuring Jordan in 1984, which sold for $126,000 in 2023.

Furthermore, the auction described the cover as a launch pad for everything else.

“Before Jordan’s 1984-85 Star rookie cards. Before his 1986-87 Flyer RCs. Before his “Star Is Born” debut SI cover in a Bulls uniform. Yes, before any of those iconic MJ masterpieces, when His Airness still wore Converse at UNC, there was this Sports Illustrated issue, with this “No. 1″ cover, which featured Jordan Marked the beginning of the billion-dollar business of collectibles.”

In 1983, North Carolina began the season as the No. 1-ranked team in the country. Last year, they won the NCAA Championship 63–62 over Georgetown, culminating in Jordan’s winning basket in the final seconds of the game.

Subsequently, Jordan became College Player of the Year twice in 1983 and 1984. Although he never won another national championship, Jordan left his mark on Chapel Hill.

In 1984, he declared for the NBA draft and won a gold medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. That year, the Bulls drafted him as the third pick in one of the most consequential drafts in NBA history.

Michael Jordan parted ways with Sports Illustrated in 1994

In 1994, Jordan was playing minor league baseball. At the time, many criticized his decision to step away from basketball at the peak of his career and try a sport he had not played since adolescence.

One of them was Sports Illustrated.

The breaking point was their March 1994 cover story titled “Bag It, Michael”, written by Steve Wolf. Essentially, Wolf said that Jordan and the Birmingham Barons were disrespecting the game.

From that moment on, Jordan never spoke to Sports Illustrated.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander talks about Wilt Chamberlain before setting record

Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is one 20+ points shy of Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain’s record. It has been over 64 years since Chamberlain scored 20+ points in 126 consecutive games. Gilgeous-Alexander extended his streak to 125 in the Thunder’s 104–97 win against the Golden State Warriors, leading his team with 27 points as the defending champions earned their 50th win of the regular season.

According to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, Gilgeous-Alexander discussed how much he knows about Chamberlain.

“Not much, other than that he was very impressive,” Gilgeous-Alexander recently told ESPN. “Based on the data, he did what he wanted and how he wanted.”

Chamberlain is known for his dominant statistics, including his infamous 100-point performance in 1962, which stands as the most points scored in a single game in NBA history. However, there is no footage.

“To be honest, it almost seems like a mythical creature,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “it’s not real.”

Still, Wilt Chamberlain’s record of consecutive 20+ point performances remains real, and Gilgeous-Alexander is on the verge of standing next to Chamberlain, a feat it took an NBA player 64 years to reach.

Gilgeous-Alexander surpassed Chamberlain’s second-best 20+ point record earlier this season when he scored 26 points in a 123–115 win against the Portland Blazers in December to extend his streak to 94 consecutive games. SGA is averaging 31.6 points per game this season, second best in the NBA this season.

The Thunder’s reigning MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, will face the runner-up, Nuggets All-Star Nikola Jokic, as the two leading candidates for this year’s award meet for a rematch of last week’s overtime thriller. The Thunder defeated the Nuggets in a 127–121 victory.

Gilgeous-Alexander, who returned from an abdominal injury in the overtime win against the Nuggets, will look to extend the Thunder’s winning streak to six, tying NBA history with his 126th consecutive 20+ point performance.

SGA gets ‘special’ shoutout from Nikola Jokic after tying Wilt Chamberlain’s record

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tied Wilt Chamberlain’s NBA record for most consecutive 20+ point performances (126), earning praise from Denver Nuggets All-Star Nikola Jokic. Following Gilgeous-Alexander’s game-winning 3-pointer in the 129-126 Thunder victory, Jokic gave his flowers to the reigning MVP for making history.

Jokic tried his best to put Gilgeous-Alexander 126 consecutive 20+ point games According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, he put it into perspective during media availability after the game.

“I don’t know if people realize how hard it is to do that. To score 20 points in 10 (straight) games, not 120, no matter what, it’s special. He’s a special player,” Jokic said. “It’s a pleasure and a privilege to play against him.”

Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander says he didn’t spend much time thinking about Wilt Chamberlain’s record until he tied it against Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. Gilgeous-Alexander set an absurd record by scoring 20+ points in 126 consecutive games, a feat that took an NBA player over 63 years to match.

For Gilgeous-Alexander, it’s a lot to digest, he said, during his postgame media availability, reminding reporters that the Thunder victory is still ahead About his approach to defending his first NBA title.

Gilgeous-Alexander said, “It’s still a lot to wrap around in my mind. To be honest, I try not to think about it, especially during the season. There’s a lot going on. A lot of things have to go right to get what you ultimately want.” “That’s my 100 percent focus, especially in a basketball context. It’s special to interact with a guy like that (Wilt Chamberlain).

“It’s crazy to think that where I was 10 years ago, I would be here today. You work hard. You trust the process. You look up, and great things can happen to you, and I’m proof of that.”

The Thunder improved to 51–15 and took a 3.0 game lead over the Spurs in the Western Conference standings.

Why Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is not thinking of breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record?

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander hit a game-winning triple to beat the Denver Nuggets 129-126, tying Wilt Chamberlain’s record for most consecutive 20+ point games in NBA history. In a duel between the two leading MVP candidates, Gilgeous-Alexander topped Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets with a 35-point performance, and finished with back-to-back threes with just 3.3 seconds left in the game.

At the same time, Jaylin Williams drew a foul on Christian Braun, who tied the game at the free-throw line (126). Then, SGA sealed the Thunder’s victory with another triple.

Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander equaled Wilt Chamberlain’s NBA record and then left an indelible mark with Nuggets All-Star Nikola Jokic at the end of this year’s MVP race. One could argue that Gilgeous-Alexander has just caught up with him in the race Game-winning 3-pointerAmid a 35-point performance, the shorthanded Thunder managed to defeat the Nuggets for the second time in 10 days.

Without Thunder starters Jalen Williams and Isaiah Hartenstein, Gilgeous-Alexander led his team to a tough win against the Nuggets. In a game that went down to the wire, SGA helped the defending champions earn the victory while sending a message to the Nuggets and the rest of the Western Conference about the reigning MVP’s dominance.

The Thunder are on a six-game winning streak.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander equals Wilt Chamberlain’s NBA record

When it comes to NBA records, Wilt Chamberlain has many of them, especially when it comes to scoring. But during the Oklahoma City Thunder’s game against the Denver Nuggets on Monday, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tied one of Chamberlain’s NBA records, and he will surpass it in the next game.

According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the NBA record was held by Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who tied Wilt Chamberlain for most consecutive games with at least 20 points. Chamberlain’s record stood for over 60 years and was 126 consecutive games. Gilgeous-Alexander will get a chance to build on that during the Thunder’s game against the Boston Celtics on Thursday.

While the Thunder’s game against the Nuggets was still in progress as of publication, Gilgeous-Alexander had 25 points while shooting 11-of-16 from the field (68.8 percent), 1-of-3 from the 3-point line and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. By that point, he also had eight rebounds and 12 assists in 32 minutes.

Reigning MVP and Finals MVP, Gilgeous-Alexander has the Thunder in prime position to not only reach the NBA Finals once again, but potentially win back-to-back championships.

The Thunder star has appeared in 53 games this season, averaging a little over 33 minutes per game. He averaged 31.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.4 steals with splits of 54.9 percent shooting from the field, 38.1 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 89.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The No. 11 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Gilgeous-Alexander has become a franchise cornerstone of the Thunder after being traded to the LA Clippers in the 2019 offseason.

Danish club plans record sale for Chilean winger – Liverpool or Arsenal could be destination

Recently, both Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with Dario Osorio as the winger continues to attract attention across Europe.

Now, fresh reporting from Chile has revealed the scale of the behind-the-scenes planning at FC Midtjylland, where the player is seen as a central part in an ambitious transfer strategy.

according to thirdThe Danish club is openly working towards making Osorio part of the most expensive transfer in the history of Danish football. Club president Klaus Steinlein has already said that he expects record sales from the Superliga in the next European summer window.

“I expect the biggest sale in the history of Danish football. They are three completely unique players,” Steinlein said, referring to Osorio, Franculino Diju and Aral Simsir.

The benchmark is currently based on the sale of Ernests Nouma to Lyon in 2023 for around €24m (£21m). Midtjylland aims to exceed that figure, with Osorio considered one of the players capable of reaching such a valuation.

Contract Strategy and Development Plan

A significant part of that strategy has already been implemented. Midtjylland recently extended Osorio’s contract until July 2030, strengthening their negotiating position ahead of any potential bid.

With more than four years left on the deal, the Danish side can dictate the terms of any future transfer. The club’s overarching model revolves around quickly identifying young talent, developing players in the Superliga, and eventually selling them to larger European leagues.

Osorio fits that blueprint perfectly. Since arriving from Universidad de Chile, the winger has established himself as a regular player in Denmark and in European competitions.

Over two seasons he has registered 93 appearances, 21 goals and 15 assists, strong numbers for a wide attacker playing in a team that regularly competes domestically and in Europe.

The Midtjylland staff also believes that the Chile international still has significant room for growth.

“Surely he will change clubs at some point,” said head coach Mike Tullberg. “He can do everything on the pitch. Maybe he needs to be a little more dangerous in attack and score more goals, but he has already shown that he can defend too. That will make him interesting for many high-level clubs.”

Premier League attention is increasing

Osorio’s profile has already attracted the attention of Premier League recruitment departments.

Recently spotted by Liverpool Scouts Midtjylland’s Europa League clash with Genk, where several players from the Danish side were under observation. Manchester United and Leeds United also came to watch. Previously, he joined West Ham and Everton another scouting mission To follow the player.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have also been linked with the winger in recent months. The club’s South American chief scout Jonathan Vidale When previously discussing Osorio’s development his profile was compared to that of Angel Di Maria.

The Argentinian talent scout also suggested the Chilean made the right decision by taking a move through Denmark before attempting a move to one of Europe’s biggest leagues.

Midtjylland are therefore openly aiming to break the Danish transfer record. Premier League clubs are already keeping a close eye on his progress. That means Osorio’s next move may become a question of timing rather than possibility.

Luka Doncic sets straight record after missed call vs. Knicks

Luka Doncic always wears his heart on his sleeve in every minute he spends on the hardwood, and that was certainly the case during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 110-97 win over the New York Knicks at home on Sunday.

While everything ended well and in good spirits for the Lakers, Doncic had some distinct moments of frustration towards the officiating – even appearing to point money towards the referees at one point, indicating they were on his opponents’ payroll.

Doncic isn’t the most skilled defensive player, so when he tries, he wants to get the least amount of reward. With about 4:30 remaining in the third quarter of Sunday’s game, he tried to charge rookie forward Mohamed Diarra on a three-on-two fastbreak, but the officials did not blow their whistle. He made the above provocative gesture immediately after that no-call.

Immediately after the game, the Lakers star made it known He told ESPN’s Malika Andrews that he faced two charges that night – one that counted, and one that didn’t.

(Fast forward to 0:20 of the video.)

Charges and blocks can be some of the most blatant calls in basketball, so there is always uncertainty in such games. But let’s say: Doncic is at least willing to put his body on the line in keeping with the Lakers’ defensive principles.

LeBron James has been battling arthritis, which kept him out of the Lakers’ lineup on Sunday. not to worry; The Lakers still won comfortably, with Doncic recording 35 points and Austin Reaves supporting him with his 25 points.

The Lakers did a good job of forcing turnovers (the Knicks had 18 on the night), and they also kept them quiet from beyond the arc, allowing only eight triples on the night.

Anthony Edwards believes he can surpass Stephen Curry’s 3-point record

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry’s three-point record is believed to be out of reach, but Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards believes there is at least one man who can catch Curry.

Curry broke the record for three points scored in a game against the New York Knicks on December 14, 2021. He passed Ray Allen’s career mark of 2,973 three-pointers. But that record certainly seems like ages ago, as he surpassed 4,000 career three-pointers in March 2025 and currently stands at 4,233 in March 2026. James Harden is now second on the list with 3,336 three-pointers.

In a feature written by Danny Ammerman san francisco standardAnthony Edwards talked about who he believes can surpass Steph Curry for most career three-pointers. Of course, Edwards responded bluntly, saying, “I think I’m going to catch him.”

But after taking themselves out of the equation, they identified an interesting name: Charlotte Hornets rookie Kon Knueppel.

“He can catch him,” Edwards told Emmerman. “The white boy from Charlotte, okay? He’s good. … Either me or Kon Knueppel. I’m a big fan of Kon Knueppel. He can really shoot the ball.”

The case of both Knueppel and Edwards is not as far-reaching as it may seem. Knueppel currently leads the league in three-pointers, drilling 222 at the time of this writing. Anthony Edwards ranks 9th in the top 10 for three-pointers made this season, with nearly 185. Edwards and Knueppel are both ahead of Curry, who has made 175 but has played only 39 games due to lingering injuries.

Knueppel’s NBA reputation in his first season was as an instinctive shooter who seems almost automatic from behind the arc. But Edwards wasn’t always a high-volume three-point shooter. In the 2020–2021 season, he shot 32.9% from three. Although he could knock down those shots, it was not his strongest asset. But since his rookie season, he has become one of the best three-point shooters in the league, hitting 39% from range in the 2024-2025 season and attempting 10.3 per game – which was 3.6 more attempts than in the 2023-2024 season.

While it will certainly take a long time to catch Steph Curry, and Curry certainly has more seasons left to attempt to put the three-point record out of reach, it’s certain that Knueppel and Edwards have a shot at the crown.

LeBron James’ perfect reaction, breaking the all-time field goal record

LeBron James has spent more than two decades rewriting the NBA record books, but his latest milestone holds a special kind of significance. On Thursday night at Ball Arena, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar officially became the league’s all-time leader in field goals, surpassing the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Entering the game needing only two buckets to claim the throne, James wasted no time. With 8:12 remaining in the first quarter, he added his signature 14-foot turnaround jumper to tie the record. Moments later, he passed Abdul-Jabbar’s mark of 15,837 with his 15,838th career field goal. Despite the hostile Denver crowd, the game stopped briefly as the accomplishment flashed in the Jumbotron, marking another chapter in the “Kings'” career.

“At the end of the day, just being added, and having my name mentioned with some of the greatest guys to ever play this game, it’s always humbling and pretty cool,” James told Spectrum SportsNet after the game. “I grew up watching, reading, analyzing a lot of great works.”

While the history was perfect, the game itself was a war. The Los Angeles Lakers struggled early against a surging Denver Nuggets team, falling 16–3. James finished the night with 16 points on 7 of 15 shooting, adding five rebounds and eight assists before exiting prematurely due to an elbow injury. Luka Doncic led the Lakers scoring with 27 points, but it was not enough to overcome the balanced Nuggets attack.

Nikola Jokic dominated with a triple-double, posting 28 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists, while Jamal Murray added 28 points to secure a 120–113 victory for Denver. The loss drops the Lakers to 31-31, leaving them in a tight race for a postseason berth.

Even in defeat, the night belonged to James. At 41, he continues to bridge the gap between the legends he once studied and the history he is currently making.

LeBron James breaks another Kareem NBA record against Nuggets

LeBron James is the new king of all-time list.

Already the all-time leader in points in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward broke another record previously held by L.A. legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he made a comeback victory late in the first quarter of Thursday night’s showdown in the Mile High City against the Denver Nuggets.

“LeBron passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for making the most FGs in NBA history with a fadeaway jumper from the baseline (15,838). LeBron has held the scoring title for several years, having more FTs than Kareem, and certainly by a larger margin than 3s (Kareem made a career 3),” as noted by Spectrum Sportsnet’s Mike Trudell.

Stop for a moment to watch this moment where LeBron James finally surpasses the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar again.

It wasn’t an easy shot for the 41-year-old James, as Nuggets forward Zeke Nnaji was on top of him during that game, but the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player was not going to be denied that historic basket.

James, playing in his 23rd season in the NBA, entered the Nuggets game needing only two more buckets to tie Abdul-Jabbar and three more to break the record. He previously held the No. 2 spot, surpassing Utah Jazz legend Karl Malone, who had 13,525 field goals.

Every James basket should be cherished by true basketball fans, because he will not play forever, no matter how he wins his battle against Father Time.

Bam Adebayo sends funny warning to Udonis Haslem after breaking Miami record

MIAMI – Miami Heat captain Bam Adebayo is chasing Udonis Haslem’s record for most rebounds in team history, reaching a milestone in that goal on Tuesday. The Heat’s star in Adebayo displayed his defensive ability in Tuesday night’s 124-98 win over the Brooklyn Nets as he sent Haslem a message about getting closer to his record.

While Haslem still holds the record for most rebounds with 5,791, his defensive rebound mark of 4,176 has been broken by Adebayo, who now totals 4,180 after grabbing eight of them on Tuesday. Adebayo and Haslem have a close relationship off the court, but there is also a friendly rivalry due to the star’s speed, which is likely to see the 28-year-old break the overall record soon with 235 boards adrift.

“I’m on the way. He knows it, that gap is getting closer and closer,” Adebayo told ClutchPoints after scoring a game-high 23 points with nine rebounds. “Being a part of this organization, the guys ahead of me, there are records to be broken, but they want you to earn them. And obviously, I’m earning it every game, and at some point, it’s going to happen.”

In addition to breaking records, the Heat’s Bam Adebayo is also playing elite defense

Adebayo is also demonstrating that he is one of the league’s best defensive players, as he led the NBA in defensive rating (99.7) in February. After the rare occurrence of not making the NBA’s All-Defensive team last season, he believes people may be “tired of seeing consistency.”

“But as I’ve grown up in this league, the standards have changed,” Adebayo said after recording a career-high six steals and a team-high +22 on Tuesday. “You’ve got guys that aren’t making the playoffs, they’re at the bottom of the league record… I don’t know if it’s just voter fatigue, but I’m always going to be first-team on defense. That’ll never change, no matter what the voters say. My guys know that.”

This type of outing from Adebayo is especially needed at this point in the season, as the team is trying to climb out of the eighth seed and play-in tournament play like they have been in the past three seasons. After the win over the Nets, Adebayo would insist that “we can’t afford any more mistakes.”

“We have a lot going on in the first half of the season, and you have to hold each other to a higher standard and accountability,” Adebayo said. “And it gets uncomfortable sometimes, because you feel like you don’t want to go too far, but in that sense, man, we’ve passed that stage, and we’re trying to do something special, and it’s going to affect all of us, and we have to hold each other accountable in some serious situations.”

Heat’s Erik Spoelstra on Bam Adebayo chasing Udonis Haslem’s record

Teams facing the Heat could be accused of tanking, they took care of business on Tuesday night against the now 15-46 Nets, led by Adebayo’s anchoring performance. As longtime teammate Tyler Herro talked about one of Adebayo’s better defensive seasons, another who has watched the big man up close is head coach Erik Spoelstra.

Beyond basketball, Spoelstra will talk about the “quality human being” that Adebayo is, earning a chance to break the record of Haslem, a former player who has been a flag bearer for the franchise.

“I know he’s chasing him, so I’m sure he’ll do some crazy things to him. He wants to get the full rebound record, but it’s a testament to his consistency, and we love to see that,” Spoelstra said. “You know, records are meant to be broken, especially when good guys are breaking records. And Bam is a quality guy. And you know UD will love it when Bam finally surpasses him.”

“But he sets the tone in that first quarter,” Spoelstra continued. “I think he had four steals; he had a couple blocks in the first half, which really helped our defense. And that’s two really good defensive games in a row. Our defense has been good all year, but we need to step up to a really high level to finish out this regular season.”

At any rate, Adebayo and Miami will be looking to keep that going as they face Brooklyn once again on Thursday, with the team’s record at 33-29, which puts them in eighth place in the East, although they are a half-game behind the sixth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers.

Nikola Jokic is close to the record for which Kareem played 1,560 games

Nikola Jokic continues to rewrite the NBA record books at a pace that truly feels illegal. During the Denver Nuggets’ stunning 128-125 win over the Utah Jazz on Monday night, the Serbian center officially tied the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s mark, and he did it in almost halftime.

Entering the contest at the Delta Center, Jokic was just one game shy of breaking the record for most games with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in NBA history. After a hard-fought 36 minutes on the floor, he walked away with exactly 22 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. This performance is the 322nd 20/10/5 game of his career, which brings him level with the captain.

The most astonishing part of this achievement is not just the output, but also the efficiency. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar needed 1,560 games to set that mark. Jokic has reached this peak in only 792 games. While Jamal Murray made headlines on the night with a big 45-point explosion, including eight triples and the go-ahead free throw, Jokic’s steady hand kept the Nuggets afloat as they held off a late Jazz rally.

Despite the depleted roster, Utah didn’t make it easy. Keyonte George exploded for 36 points and nearly forced overtime, but Jokic remained composed under pressure. Despite five fouls late in the fourth quarter, he managed to secure the board and hit two clutch free throws with six seconds remaining to seal the win.

Denver has relied heavily on its superstars this season and Jokic has not disappointed. He currently leads the league in rebounds and assists, looking like the favorite for another MVP trophy. Now with the record tied, all eyes are on Thursday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. If history is any indication, Jokic won’t be tied down for long.

Walter Clayton Jr. breaks franchise record with stellar performance against Pacers

Walter Clayton Jr. accomplished an impressive rookie feat with his performance in the Memphis Grizzlies’ 125-106 win over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night.

Clayton is going through the rookie campaign of his NBA career, having enjoyed an incredible collegiate career that includes a national championship with the Florida Gators. He began the 2025–26 season with the Utah Jazz before they traded him and several players to Memphis in a player-stacked deal.

The move gave Clayton a chance to take on a larger role, earning more starts as Memphis’ season ended. Clayton has progressed as a two-way guard, showcasing his skills against Indiana. In 34 minutes of action, he finished with a stat line of seven points, 14 assists, four steals, three rebounds and one block.

This performance allowed him to make franchise history with the Grizzlies. He recorded the most assists in any game as a rookie, putting himself at the mountaintop of Memphis’ rookie charts in that statistic.

Walter Clayton Jr. was active in the drama production department with his 14 recipes. As a result, he helped the Grizzlies defeat the Pacers in a strong road win.

Seven players scored in double figures for Memphis in the win. Taylor Hendricks impressed with a stat line of 19 points, five rebounds and one assist. Jaylen Wells was next with 18 points and three rebounds, Olivier-Maxence Prosper had 17 points and three assists, while Scottie Pippen Jr. had 16 points and five assists. Ryan Rupert, meanwhile, provided 16 points and six rebounds.

Memphis improved to a 23–36 record on the season and 11th in the Western Conference standings. They are above the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans. However, they are behind the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers.

The Grizzlies will remain on the road and await their next matchup. They will face the Minnesota Timberwolves as tip-off takes place on March 3 at 8 PM ET.

Khris Middleton plans to stay with Dallas despite record

Khris Middleton is staying put. Despite a flurry of rumors and the impending buyout deadline, the veteran forward intends to finish the season with the Dallas Mavericks.

The 34-year-old had a chance to move to a contender before Sunday’s deadline to be eligible for the playoffs with a new team. The Denver Nuggets were reportedly leading the field of interested suitors, but Middleton has decided to stick it out in North Texas. Sources indicate he has settled in quickly since arriving in the blockbuster Anthony Davis trade earlier this season.

It’s been a rough ride for Dallas lately. The Mavericks are currently 21-38, far from the playoff picture in the loaded Western Conference. The team is coming off a disappointing 124-105 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies last Friday, where the offense struggled to find any consistent rhythm.

Middleton has been a steadfast force amid the chaos. In the team’s recent 130-121 loss to the Sacramento Kings, the former Milwaukee Bucks All-Star put up 17 points and five rebounds in 33 minutes. He also showed glimpses of his championship pedigree during February. 22nd win over the Indiana Pacers, scoring 25 points on efficient 11-of-15 shooting.

Retaining Middleton is an important move for a Mavericks front office looking to retain some veteran leadership around rookie sensation Cooper Flagg. While the postseason is likely out of reach this year, Middleton’s presence provides a professional blueprint for a young roster that is still searching for its identity.

The Mavericks return to action on Sunday to face the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder at American Airlines Center. This will be a huge test for a Dallas team that wants to overcome a two-game slump and prove they can compete with the elite of the West.

Bam Adebayo’s moment with Udonis Haslem amid franchise rebound record quest

After Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo expressed disappointment with his place in the Eastern Conference standings this season, he has something to celebrate, which was mentioned jokingly with Prime Video’s Udonis Haslem. Haslem, the Heat veteran who holds the franchise record for most rebounds in a career (5,791), will soon be tied for second in franchise history for most rebounds.

When Adebayo joined the squad for his postgame interview following Saturday’s 115–105 win against the Houston Rockets, host Steve Nash joked that Haslem was disappointed to see Adebayo take his heat. franchise recordAccording to NBA on Prime.

Nash said, “UD is so salty here that you’re going to pass him on the all-time rebound list with the Heat,” to which Adebayo asked Crews how close he was to surpassing Haslem.

Adebayo is 245 rebounds away from reaching Haslem’s franchise record.

“Sorry, OG,” Adebayo said. “I love you to death. I’ll give you the game ball if you want. But you know the record is mine, buddy.”

Udonis Haslem expressed zero interest in collecting Adebayo’s game ball when he eventually surpasses Haslem’s all-time Heat record, which he anticipates will happen before the end of the regular season. Adebayo finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s win against the Rockets.

Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade questioned Bam Adebayo’s opinion on the Heat, who are considered a talented team beyond the play-in round of the postseason. Wade also addressed Adebayo’s speech during Prime Video’s pregame broadcast Discussing his team’s recent defeat.

“The same thing I asked Bam… Are you there? That was my voice note to Bam.”

Wade continued by emphasizing that results ultimately determine where a team stands in the hierarchy.

“Because men lie, women lie, numbers don’t lie. But I will say this, what Bam told me was – I think his disbelief and probably the team’s disbelief is due to them being first in overall pace, top five in scoring, top in defense so all the numbers are there. They have three guys now. [Norman Powell]balm, [Tyler] Heroes who have been All-Stars, so you also have guys who have talent. So, I believe there is some mistrust coming from that.

Adebayo and the Heat responded with a 10-point win against the Rockets on Saturday.

“There was no plan” – Southampton record signing says Saints didn’t know what to do with him

Southampton’s one-time record signing Sofiane Boufal has accused the club of not having a plan when they signed him, which has led to his disappointing performances at the club.

Boufal talks to L’Equipe today about his career. This also includes discussion at Southampton, should things not go according to plan.

The 32-year-old is currently playing his football in Le Havre, France after joining on a free transfer in January. He was at Royal Union Saint-Gillois, but his contract there was terminated by mutual consent.

The French side are the latest club to join him in a varied career since leaving Southampton in 2020.

Post-Southampton conflict

In the six years since leaving Southampton he has played for Angers SCO, Al-Rayyan, Union SG and Le Havre.

The winger spent four years at Southampton after the club signed him for a then club-record £16m in 2016, but he was never able to reach that status during his time there.

Although he showed glimpses of world-class individual talent, a consistent lack of final product and occasional clashes with management diminished his influence.

Fans remember him best for two iconic solo goals: a long-range curler against Sunderland and a spectacular 85th-minute solo effort against West Brom the following year. That strike was voted the Premier League’s goal of the season in 2018.

But overall, he managed only five goals and five assists in 84 appearances, far below expectations for a record signing.

Why did the saint mantra not work?

However, he does not take the blame for Southampton’s failure. Instead, he accused Southampton of not having any plans for him when he signed him.

“Of course I can say that I missed something. If we are only talking about pure football, I had the qualities to have a very successful career.” He said.

“But I could have done worse. I got hurt. And you get what you deserve. I was too impulsive for my own liking. Back then, I was all alone in that crazy, shark-like world. But I don’t live with regrets.

“It didn’t work at some clubs because I didn’t feel valued. At Southampton, I was the biggest signing in the club’s history, but there was no plan behind it.”

JJ Redick sets the record straight on Pat Riley comparisons, impact

LOS ANGELES – When JJ Redick was first hired as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, he was compared to the great Pat Riley. Redick’s path to coaching followed a similar story, in that he went straight into broadcasting after retirement and had no prior coaching experience before joining the Lakers staff in 1979.

Before the Lakers’ game against the Boston Celtics on Sunday, Pat Riley was honored with a statue outside Crypto.com Arena, the latest in a long list of franchise legends immortalized outside the Lakers’ home arena.

During his pregame press conference, JJ Redick talked about Riley’s influence on coaching, along with comparisons to the legendary Lakers coach.

Redick said, “I didn’t think much about the comparisons at the time. I think Pat kind of set the standard for modern NBA coaches. I’ve always looked at the NBA as two different eras.” “You can make the demarcation point right at the time of the merger or right in 80-81 when Dallas joined as the 23rd team.”

“And that, to me, is the beginning of the modern NBA. And that’s right when the ’80s Lakers run started,” Redick continued. “Pat set the standard for what a modern NBA coach should be.”

Redick is in the second year of his four-year contract, which he signed as head coach of the Lakers through the 2024 offseason. In his first year, he led the Lakers to a 50–32 record and the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference playoff picture.

In comparison, Riley led the Lakers to a 50–21 record after taking over as head coach during the 1981–82 season. His overall record was 57–25. The Lakers would win the title that year, starting a streak of eight consecutive NBA Finals appearances with a total of four championships.

Pat Riley’s thoughts on JJ Redick

Pat Riley’s final two seasons as head coach coincided with the first two seasons of JJ Redick’s NBA career. But even after returning to an officiating role with the Miami Heat, he had to worry about game-planning for Redick.

Although Riley has been employed by the Heat organization since 1995, he still keeps an eye on his old team, and believes they hit a home run with Redick Hires.

“I love JJ, I really do. I competed against him, my teams competed against him,” Riley said during a media availability session before the game. “Sometimes I look back and I miss that time. And I look at JJ and I think they picked the right person. I think there’s just that quality about him that goes beyond that.”

While not identical to the roster Riley was working with when he first became head coach of the Lakers, Redick had to integrate the talents of LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves together. Riley believes the Lakers have a good team and the organization has put Redick in a position to succeed.

“They have a great team right here for that [Luka] Doncic and [Austin] With Reeves and obviously LeBron,” Riley said. “I think Rob [Pelinka]. . .And the new ownership will build the team to compliment those players, but they have a great opportunity. I think JJ will be a good coach for them.

The Orlando Magic had a stellar performance coming out of the All-Star break, posting a 131–94 win over the Sacramento Kings while setting a franchise record for 3-pointers.

Orlando connected on 27 of his 50 attempts from beyond the arc, showcasing ball movement, spacing and confidence all night. Leading the charge was Paolo Banchero, who imposed his will early and finished with 30 points, six assists, five rebounds, one steal and one block in 32 minutes. He shot 10 of 21 from the field, 5 of 7 from 3-point range, and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line.

After the game, Banchero pointed to execution and belief as keys to the record-setting performance.

“Yeah, it’s a good, good way to start this back half of the season after the break by getting a three-point record,” Banchero said. “That’s a good sign and yeah, I think we did a good job like I said, finding the advantage and then playing from there and finding the open man.”

He credited the team’s scoring ability from long range.

“I think we did a good job of letting the defense react to what we were doing and then getting a guy open, finding that guy, and then whoever it was – stepping into their shot and hitting it with confidence,” Banchero said. “I thought guys didn’t shy away from threes today. When they’re open, guys let it fly, including me, you know, just being confident in the shot, staying with the results and today they were hitting at a high level.”

Paolo Banchero’s aggression, defense fuel franchise 3-point night vs. Kings

Banchero also emphasized his mindset entering the competition.

“I’m just trying to come out, impose my will, be aggressive,” he said. “As you said, there are a lot of important games coming up, so I think everybody on the team understands that just coming out, doing whatever we have to do to win these games.”

Head coach Jamahl Mosley paired offensive explosion with defensive intensity.

“I really think it was our defense that was making some early, easy offensive looks,” Mosley said. “We were able to get down low, attack the basket, and then we were able to spray out for set three on legs. I thought our guys did a great job of sharing it out, moving it up, trusting the pass and just trusting our teammates.”

Mosley credited preparation and spacing for the franchise milestone.

“I thought it was great,” he said. “I think the guys did a great job in practice yesterday, understanding what shots we were going to get against this team. Our coaches did a great job of setting these guys up in the right situations, in the right spots, and guys were confident and comfortable and ready to get their feet wet and make shots.”

Magical Defense Increases Stealing Process as West Coast Tour Continues

He also praised Banchero’s tenacity.

Mosley said, “I like how he settled into the game, started being very aggressive early on, started getting down low, attacking the basket when she was open, stepping into a shot, letting people know how they were guarding him.” “I thought they did a great job of finding teammates, but overall on our team I think we did a great job of trusting our defense to carry our offense, and that’s why the ball was bouncing the way it was.”

The defensive pressure was evident in the box score. The Magic recorded 13 steals in Sacramento. The team’s PR account shared that this is the fifth consecutive game in which Orlando has recorded at least 10 steals, the third-longest in franchise history. The longest streak of games with 10 or more steals is seven, set from January 29 to February 18, 1994.

The activity at that end helped promote transition opportunities and early attack, reinforcing Mosley’s emphasis on creating rhythm and confidence in defence.

With the win, Orlando improved to 29–25, and moved within a half game of the sixth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers (30–25) in the Eastern Conference. The Magic continue their West Coast trip against the Phoenix Suns (32-24) on Saturday at 5:00 PM ET on NBA TV.

Report shows Juan Soto drove record revenue for NY Mets in debut season

A new report suggests Juan Soto was a big win for the New York Mets in 2025 on and off the field.

Many people in baseball and the sports world in general scoffed at the news that the NY Mets had agreed to a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million deal with veteran outfielder Juan Soto. Sure, he was a 26-year-old four-time All-Star who won a championship with the Washington Nationals, but earning $62 million in the first season of the deal seemed ridiculous.

When he posted a .253 average and eight homers over the first three months of the season, it seemed as if the NY Mets had another overpriced free agent bust on their hands. However, in June, Soto began playing like the MVP candidate fans had seen during his lone season with the New York Yankees.

By the end of the 2025 campaign, he had a slash line of .263/.396/.525/.921 with 43 homers, 105 runs batted in, 120 runs scored and a career-best 38 stolen bases. Those numbers and his third-place finish in the National League MVP voting seem to suggest that for at least one season, he was worth the money, even if the team collapsed in the final weeks of the season.

However, that data is what the outfielder brings to the field for the NY Mets in 2025. However, what he delivered in terms of fan interest last season proves why the club decided to give him a record-breaking deal ahead of last season.

NY Mets set new record for ticket sales in 2025

mets
Sam Navarro-Imagen Images

According to a new disclosure first reported by Sportico, the team generated $311.4 million in revenue last season. This was a large increase compared to the $260.8 million earned in 2024 and $237.8 million earned in 2023. Ticket revenue also increased by more than $20 million – from $136.7 million to $157.6 million – after a sellout to more than 850,000 fans at Citi Field last year.

The outlet also reports that luxury suite and club premium revenues doubled in 2025 ($39.1 million), and concessions increased 55% ($38.3 million).

The big difference fans found between the 2024 team and the 2025 team was the inclusion of Soto. So it makes sense that he was the biggest factor in their turnover surge last season.

However, while they generated revenue of $311 million, they suffered losses three times that amount sometime in 2025. The loss was mostly caused by payroll costs of $347 million and the accompanying $92 million tax bill.

Cooper flag jersey sold for record $1 million

There is no denying the fact that Cooper Flagg is having a great rookie season with the Dallas Mavericks. Even though he missed All-Star Weekend due to a foot injury, Flagg has demonstrated All-Star potential.

Currently, he is averaging 20.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

His star power became evident on Monday when his rookie-first jersey was sold by Sotheby’s for $1 million, according to ESPN’s Dan Hajdaki. This was the same jersey he wore in the first half of his first game.

“The $1 million result for Cooper Flagg’s rookie first jersey is a powerful testament to the importance collectors place on true ‘first moments’ in sport,” Brahma Wachter, Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles, said in a statement. “This jersey marks the beginning of a special career, with huge expectations and excitement.”

Leads part of growing trend as DOF adds another ‘stain’ to ‘already tarnished record’

It’s fair to say that Leeds United fans probably don’t have a lot of good things to say about Victor Orta. And his career after Elland Road is unlikely to change those views.

Marca covered the 47-year-old today And how, things are not looking too good at Real Valladolid either. It’s all to do with his debt to firing and hiring managers.

Orta joined the La Liga 2 team as their sporting director last summer on a deal running until 2028. It was his second job after leaving Leeds in 2023, following a two-year stint as sporting director at Sevilla.

leeds’ magic ends badly

Of course, he had previously spent six years at Leeds. The high-profile appointment of Marcelo Bielsa and his return to the Premier League defined his tenure there.

But he left Elland Road in 2023 amid fan protests and the club eventually being relegated back to the Championship. That last year was a disaster. After the sacking of Bielsa in 2022, he moved on to Jesse Marsh, Javi Gracia and then Sam Allardyce. And it seems this was a trend.

Marca points out that Orta has now reached his fourth consecutive season in which he has appointed at least two coaches.

Leeds had three, then Sevilla in 2023/24 with Jose Luis Mendilibar, Diego Alonso and Quique Sanchez Flores.

Leeds’ troubles continue

The following year, the Spanish club had Javier García Pimienta and Joaquín Caparros in the dugout. Now the latest dismissal is coming to Real Valladolid.

He joined last summer but could not fully settle in there either. Two coaches have again been replaced during his tenure as sporting director. The most recent fall is that of Luis García Tevenet. He lasted only seven games with the club in the relegation zone.

His appointment and dismissal are a ‘stain’ on Orta’s ‘already tarnished record’. He is amassing a growing list of failed coaches. Now Valladolid wait to see what he does next. They, like Leeds and Sevilla, are starting to ask questions.

India vs Sri Lanka 1997 Colombo Test: The Historic World Record Match Highlights

India vs Sri Lanka 1997 Colombo Test: The Historic World Record Match Highlights

In the long and storied history of Test cricket, few matches have tested the endurance of bowlers and the patience of fans quite like the India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, 1997. This match remains etched in history books not for a thrilling victory, but for a staggering accumulation of runs that shattered world records.

The Setting: India’s Solid Start

Winning the toss, Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar elected to bat first on a pitch that appeared to be a “highway.” India’s batting powerhouse didn’t disappoint. Navjot Singh Sidhu (111) and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar (139) hammered the Sri Lankan attack. However, the star of the Indian innings was Mohammad Azharuddin, who scored a masterful 126.

India declared their first innings at a formidable 537/8. At this point, most Indian fans expected a dominant performance or, at the very least, a competitive fight for a result. Little did they know that the bowlers were about to enter a marathon that would last for days.

The Sri Lankan Onslaught: 952/6

What followed India’s declaration was a batting display that would redefine “dominance.” Sri Lanka lost Marvan Atapattu early, bringing Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama together. What happened over the next two days was a nightmare for Indian bowlers like Anil Kumble, Rajesh Chauhan, and Nilesh Kulkarni.

Jayasuriya and Mahanama stitched together a world-record partnership of 576 runs for the second wicket. Jayasuriya played a ferocious knock, scoring 340 runs, becoming the first Sri Lankan to score a triple century. Mahanama supported him brilliantly with 225 runs.

Even after the partnership broke, Aravinda de Silva (126), Arjuna Ranatunga (86), and Mahela Jayawardene (66) piled on the misery. Sri Lanka eventually declared at a jaw-dropping 952/6—the highest team total in the history of Test cricket.

Key Match Scorecard Summary

The Aftermath for Indian Bowlers

The match was a grueling experience for the Indian bowling unit. Anil Kumble, India’s greatest match-winner, bowled 72 overs for 223 runs without a single wicket. Rajesh Chauhan bowled 78 overs, while debutant Nilesh Kulkarni, who took a wicket with his very first ball in Test cricket, ended up bowling 70 overs for 195 runs.

Conclusion

The 1997 Colombo Test ended in a predictable draw, as the pitch offered absolutely nothing for the bowlers. However, it remains a historic milestone in cricket. Sri Lanka’s 952/6 remains the world record for the highest team total in a Test innings, and the match is often cited in debates regarding pitch preparation and the balance between bat and ball. For Indian fans, it was a test of resilience; for Sri Lankans, it was a moment of national pride.

Zimbabwe vs Gambia World Record: 344/4 Highest T20 Score Shorts

Zimbabwe vs Gambia: The Day Cricket History Was Rewritten with a Massive 344/4

Cricket fans in India are well-acquainted with high-scoring thrillers in the IPL, but what transpired during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier on October 23, 2024, has left the global cricketing fraternity in awe. Zimbabwe shattered the record books by posting a staggering 344/4 in just 20 overs against Gambia, marking the highest-ever total in T20 International (T20I) history.

The Record-Breaking Inning: Sikandar Raza’s Masterclass

The star of the show was none other than Zimbabwe’s captain, Sikandar Raza. Known to Indian fans for his impactful performances in the IPL, Raza played an innings for the ages. He remained unbeaten on 133* off just 43 deliveries, boasting a strike rate of 309.30.

Raza’s knock included 15 towering sixes and 7 boundaries. By reaching his century in just 33 balls, he equaled the feat of many legendary power-hitters, proving that Zimbabwe is a force to be reckoned with in the shortest format of the game.

Key Highlights of the Zimbabwe vs Gambia Scorecard

  • Brian Bennett: Set the tone with a rapid 50 off 26 balls.
  • Tadiwanashe Marumani: Smashed 62 off 19 balls at a strike rate of 326.31.
  • Clive Madande: Finished the innings in style with 53* off 17 balls.
  • The Sixes Tally: Zimbabwe hit 27 sixes in total, setting a new world record for the most sixes in a single T20I innings.

Impact on World Records

Until this match, the record for the highest T20I total was held by Nepal, who scored 314/3 against Mongolia in 2023. Zimbabwe’s 344/4 didn’t just break the record; it decimated it by a margin of 30 runs.

For Gambia, it was a day to forget on the field. Faced with a mountain to climb, their batting lineup collapsed under pressure, being bowled out for just 54 runs. Zimbabwe won the match by a historic 290 runs—the largest margin of victory (by runs) in T20I history.

Why This Matters for Indian Cricket Fans

This performance serves as a precursor to what we might expect in the upcoming T20 World Cups and franchise leagues like the IPL.

The Zimbabwe vs Gambia match was more than just a game; it was a statistical anomaly that redefined the limits of T20 cricket. With a final score of 344/4, Sikandar Raza and his team have set a bar so high that it might take years to surpass. As the gap between Associate and Full Member nations continues to produce such high-octane clashes, the sport of cricket only grows more exciting.

Canadiens score 2 goals in 2 seconds to set a new NHL world record!

Montreal Canadiens Set Mind-Blowing NHL World Record: 2 Goals in 2 Seconds!

In the high-octane world of professional ice hockey, records are meant to be broken. However, some feats leave fans and analysts across the globe—from Canada to the growing hockey community in India—absolutely speechless. The Montreal Canadiens recently etched their name into the history books by setting a new NHL world record: scoring two goals in just two seconds!

This incredible display of speed and precision has sent shockwaves through the sports world, proving once again why the NHL is considered the premier league for ice hockey. For Indian fans who follow global domestic leagues, this moment serves as a masterclass in professional sports intensity.

How the 2-Second Miracle Happened

The record-breaking sequence occurred during a high-stakes regular-season game. While scoring two goals in under ten seconds is rare, doing it in the blink of an eye requires a perfect storm of events. Following the first goal, the Canadiens won the ensuing centre-ice faceoff with such aggression that the puck was propelled immediately toward the opponent’s zone.

With the opposing goaltender still refocusing from the previous play, a lightning-fast strike found the back of the net. The official game clock registered a mere two-second difference between the two goals, shattering the previous NHL record of three seconds (held jointly by several teams over the decades).

Why This Matters for Hockey Fans in India

While India is traditionally dominated by field hockey (where the Indian national team has a legendary Olympic legacy), interest in NHL hockey scores and ice hockey is on the rise. The sheer speed of the Montreal Canadiens’ achievement highlights the fundamental difference in the ice-based version of the sport: the pace of play is unparalleled.

Tracking hockey scores today has become much easier for Indian enthusiasts via digital streaming platforms and sports apps. Witnessing a world record like “2 goals in 2 seconds” helps bridge the gap for new viewers, showcasing the thrill that makes the NHL a global spectacle.

Understanding the Speed of the NHL

To put this record into perspective, let’s look at how it compares to typical scoring trends:

  • Average Time Between Goals: Usually 5 to 8 minutes of gameplay.
  • Previous Record: 3 seconds (A record that stood for years).
  • The New Standard: 2 seconds (A feat many believe may never be beaten).

This record isn’t just about luck; it’s about a team’s ability to capitalise on momentum. For the Canadiens, often referred to as the “Habs,” this adds another golden chapter to their storied history as the most successful franchise in NHL history.

Conclusion

The Montreal Canadiens scoring 2 goals in 2 seconds is more than just a lucky break; it is a testament to the lightning-fast nature of modern ice hockey. For fans in India keeping an eye on international hockey scores, this record serves as a reminder of the unpredictability and excitement the NHL offers. As the league continues to evolve, these historic moments remind us why we watch sports: to witness the impossible becoming a reality.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Who held the previous record for the fastest two goals in the NHL?

Before the Canadiens’ 2-second feat, the record was 3 seconds, shared by the St. Louis Blues (1932) and the Minnesota Wild (2004).

2. Where can I check live NHL hockey scores in India?

Indian fans can track live scores through the official NHL app, sports news websites like ESPN, or via Google’s real-time sports updates.

3. Is ice hockey popular in India?

While field hockey is more common, ice hockey is gaining popularity in regions like Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. Many Indian sports fans also follow the NHL to see world-class athletes perform.

4. How many goals do the Montreal Canadiens have in total history?

The Montreal Canadiens are the oldest continuously operating professional ice hockey franchise and have won the most Stanley Cup championships (24), making them the most successful team in terms of historical accolades.

Montreal Canadiens forward Max Domi scores a late dramatic go-ahead goal that gets by Braden Holtby’s glove and Joel Armia fires the puck into an empty net after the ensuing draw, breaking an NHL record for the fastest two goals!
