Will Jessie Jayne get a huge push in Smackdown? Backstage rumors emerge on rising status

According to Fightful Select, Jessie Jayne is influencing creative changes on WWE SmackDown.

Several people involved in the creative process have begun rearranging plans in the women’s division to feature Jane more prominently, inspired by crowd reactions to Fatal Influence since her arrival to the group’s main roster last month.

Fatal Influence made her SmackDown debut on April 24, interrupting the match of Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair. Later that night, Jayne faced WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, losing by disqualification after stablemates Fallon Henley and Lanny Reed attacked Ripley during the match.

The group has wasted no time in establishing themselves at the top of the SmackDown women’s division, with Jayne’s history giving WWE a lot to work with. She is a two-time former NXT Women’s Champion, having won the title for the first time by defeating Stephanie Wacker in May 2025 and holding it for 151 days before losing it to Tatum Paxley at NXT Halloween Havoc. She regained the title at Gold Rush in November 2025 and held it for the next 137 days before dropping it to Lola Vice at NXT Stand & Deliver in a triple threat also involving Kendall Grey.

Jayne also has the honor of being the first wrestler to hold championships in both WWE and TNA simultaneously. She won the TNA Knockouts World Championship in a winner-take-all match against Masha Slamovich at TNA Slammiversary in July 2025 while still NXT Women’s Champion, although she lost the TNA title 36 days later at NXT Heatwave.

6 top NASCAR prospects whose stock is rising in 2026

Carson Hocevar is emerging as one of the next superstars in NASCAR, while rookie Connor Zylisch is a few years away from becoming one of the top drivers in the Cup Series. The future of the sport is bright and it has a huge impact on some of the emerging drivers.

Let’s dive into our list of the top NASCAR prospects in 2026 who are off to a good start this season and increase their chances of reaching the Cup Series.

corey day

Mark J. rebilas-imagen images

Corey Day, who turns 21 in November, had a tough start to 2026 with a 27th-place finish at Daytona and an incident with Connor Zylisch. It was the latest in a series of mistakes and questionable moves by the young driver that raised questions about his preparation for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Since then, he has demonstrated why Kyle Larson and Hendrick Motorsports have so much confidence in him for the long term.

Through 13 races, Day has the fifth-most points (422) in the O’Reilly Series and has been showing great consistency recently. Even including a DNF (37th place) at Texas Motor Speedway, Day has boasted a 9.75 average finishing position in the last 12 races. He scored his first O’Reilly Series win at Talladega and had four top-five finishes along with nine top-10 finishes in that 12-race span. If Hendrick decides to move on from Alex Bowman, Day seems to be the favorite to take the No. 48 car. However, it would not be a surprise if the team waited until 2028 for Day to become a full-time Cup driver.

Caden Honeycutt

Even before winning four races in a single weekend, 22-year-old Caden Honeycutt was viewed as one of the top NASCAR prospects in 2026. He was the obvious choice for Tricon Garage to replace Corey Haim in the No. 11 truck, and the move has paid off. Honeycutt led the Truck Series points even before his first win in the series at Watkins Glen. Through eight races, Honeycutt leads the Truck Series in the top-five (five) and top-10 (six), and among full-time drivers he leads the third-most laps (68). Minimal experience in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series means Honeycutt is two years away from reaching the Cup. However, we may see him get some opportunities in 2027.

jessie love

Top NASCAR Prospects, Jesse Love
Mark J. rebilas-imagen images

Of the top NASCAR prospects in 2026, other than Corey Haim, Jesse Love probably has the best chance to land a full-time Cup Series ride in 2027. A top development driver for Richard Childress Racing, Love is already driving part-time in the No. 33 car. The majority of his time is spent behind the wheel of the No. 2 in the O’Reilly Series, where he has already scored three career wins and currently sits third in points (479) with most top-10s (nine) and most laps led (279). Love will have a chance to become O’Reilly Series champion for the second consecutive year. Whether he can accomplish it or not, Love may have the option of driving full-time for RCR or Legacy Motor Club at Cup level next season at just 22 years old.

gio ruggiero

Top NASCAR Prospects, Gio Ruggiero
Mark J. rebilas-imagen images

Gio Ruggiero entered the season ranked 15th by Bob Pockross among the top NASCAR prospects in 2026. It’s fair to say that the 19-year-old has been raising his stock this season. While he finished 15th at Watkins Glen, NASCAR admitted to the No. 17 team that Ruggiero should not have received a penalty for the early restart. The mistake cost him a top-five finish, which would have been his fourth finish in eight races this season.

Even after that mistake made by NASCAR, Ruggiero still has the fourth-most points (257) in the Truck Series and the third-most top-fives. If he can continue at this pace and finish the year in the championship mix, perhaps O’Reilly will have a full-time ride with Joe Gibbs Racing in the Series in 2027. Given that he doesn’t turn 20 until the end of August, it’s possible we see Ruggiero in a Cup car before he turns 21.

Chandler Smith is currently in the old age for NASCAR prospects, turning 24 in June. However, he has experience racing in the Cup Series with Front Row Motorsports. He spends most of his time driving in the Truck Series as a full-time driver for the No. 38. Through eight races, he has almost as many top-fives (four) as he had last season (five), and he is on pace for the best season-long performance of his career.

brent cruz

Top NASCAR Prospects, Brent Cruz
Mark J. rebilas-imagen images

At 18 years old, Brent Cruz is already seen as one of the future stars in NASCAR. The California native’s age limited the number of O’Reilly Series races he could be a part of to start the season. So, rather than highlight that he is 11th in points (324) in nine races, there are better ways to look at his success this season.

Cruz is averaging 36 points per race in 2026, third in the O’Reilly Series behind only Justin Allgaier (49.2) and Sheldon Creed (37.3). He has improved even more as he has gained more experience at the level, recording five consecutive top-10 finishes with a 4.0 average finishing position over that period. If you want to know how high people inside the sport are regarding the crew’s future, he is widely seen as Denny Hamlin’s successor with JGR.

Arsenal step into developing battle – rising price tag and multiple suitors complicate deal

armory Flamengo are the latest Premier League team to be credited with an interest in midfielder Everton Araujo, but they are entering a situation that has already evolved significantly in recent weeks.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has gone from being a relatively quiet internal option to becoming one of Flamengo’s most valuable assets.

Earlier this year, West Ham United made a preliminary inquiry and internally valued him at around £10.2m (€12m). Newcastle then entered the picture with representatives following their performance.

Furthermore, the Bundesliga club are now believed to be preparing an offer closer to €20m (£17m), while Flamengo are working on a potential contract renewal to strengthen their position.

In other words, the price is rising – and the list of contenders is growing.

Arsenal joins expanding Premier League queue

Arsenal’s emergence adds another layer to a situation that was already developing.

The Gunners have now been named among the clubs to monitor Everton Araujo ball radar. This is a specific outlet that has become quite reliable when it comes to Rio de Janeiro state sides, which is the case of Flamengo.

Although his interest level is not said to be advanced, the midfielder is firmly on the radar of several Premier League teams.

Flamengo are comfortable with this. Internally, the club believes the player still has considerable room for appreciation in the European market. Also, he has also made it clear that any talks will start at a higher price point only.

opportunity to rise

As we covered recently, his rise to Flamengo has been driven by both opportunity and performance, and involves a familiar face at the Gunners. Former Arsenal midfielder Jorginho, who was a regular starter until he was injured, made the starting eleven.

Everton Araújo has taken advantage of this and has consistently performed well, cementing his position in the team.

Even manager Leonardo Jardim praised him, saying so “He is the epitome of a player who is successful in Europe. He has physical ability, he is good in doubles.”

Different levels of interest shape emerging auctions

Arsenal may be the newest name into the picture, but still, they are not alone.

newcastle united Are tracking the player more actively, with internal discussions already taking place regarding a possible move. Constant monitoring of their performance makes their interest appear more concrete.

west ham unitedMeanwhile, were among the first to move forward. They made an initial inquiry at the start of the year, but their £10.2m (€12m) valuation is now looking increasingly out of date. And of course a deal will depend on their Premier League survival.

Beyond England, a Anonymous Bundesliga club The company is understood to be preparing a bid in the region of €20m (£17m). That figure effectively set a new reference point.

Overall, we have clubs at different stages, but the direction is the same. A summer move could materialize rapidly.

What does it mean because flamengo is tenacious

Flamengo are certainly not under pressure to sell.

The club has already rejected lower offers and is now considering a contract renewal to increase security. Furthermore, lower-league side Volta Redonda retain 30% of the player’s economic rights, adding complexity to any potential deal.

With Arsenal now entering the frame, Newcastle monitoring closely, West Ham already positioned and Germany potentially setting the price, auction conditions are emerging.

And for interested clubs, the longer they wait, the more expensive the deal is likely to become.

Celtic are justified in wanting a midfielder – transfer target is a rising star

Issa Doumbia
Pescara, Italy – 13 September 2025: Doumbia Issa of Venezia during the Serie B match between Pescara Calcio – Venezia at the Adriatic Stadium

As Issa Doumbia of Venezia continues to grow, celtic Be on the lookout for a midfielder.

In January, sports witness Covered hoops interest in Italian. They were pursuing Doumbia throughout the campaign and, at the time, were facing competition from Udinese, Cremonese and Southampton.

The Saints actually made a formal approach for the talent in the summer of 2025. This step was taken too late and played a role in the deal never being completed.

Since then, Doumbia has become one of the most sought-after players in Serie B. He has scored seven league goals this season, assisting five times, playing a big role in keeping Venezia top of the table.

Just one step away from promotion to Serie A, Celtic are still interested in Doumbia.

Other clubs are joining the race

Gazzetta dello Sport today described the 22-year-old as Venezia’s treasure. They only paid €1m to sign him from AlbinoLeffe in 2024 and he is now worth as much as €15m.

This view is shared by manager Giovanni Stroppa, who watched Doumbia score a crucial goal in their win over Empoli at the weekend.

The report suggests that Celtic and Southampton have now joined a number of other clubs in the hunt for talent. Club Brugge and Espanyol are also keen.

Major Serie A sides are now monitoring his development, and Portuguese giants Sporting are also keeping an eye on him.

Venezia have not yet decided on their future. Promotion to the top level brings with it plenty of challenges but sales can reduce the amount of money clubs have on offer.

Our opinion: Celtic’s task is getting tougher

With each passing week, the queue of suitors for the Italy U21s player continues to grow. This is no surprise but it has turned out to be a problem for Celtic.

The Hoops may have to pay a record fee for Issa Doumbia. The major Italian clubs, Sporting and even Club Brugge can attract the attention of European football and more people.

Doumbia’s team at StarAssist is more active in Italy and France.

Arsenal are pursuing the transfer of Maxi Araujo
Arsenal are pursuing the transfer of Maxi Araujo

Tottenham Hotspur Arsenal are among the clubs battling for Sporting’s Maxi Araujo in the summer.

last month, sports witness specifically disclosed Tottenham have initiated contact with a bid to sign the 26-year-old.

on weekends, record in portugal Arsenal are said to have opened talks to sign the left wing, who is valued at around €60m.

He can also operate as a left-back and winger and has contributed 10 goals and 12 assists in 80 matches.

This includes six goals and four assists in 42 matches this season, operating primarily as a left-back.

He even played the full 90 minutes in both legs in the Champions League quarter-finals against Arsenal. Kai Havertz’s goal helped the Gunners reach the last four with a 1–0 aggregate score.

His league statistics this season are as follows:

  • Appearances: 25
  • Start: 21
  • Total minutes: 1,855
  • Minutes per game: 74
  • Interceptions per game: 1.0
  • Tackles per game: 1.7

  • Dribble past per game: 1.0
  • Clearance per game: 1.2
  • Blocked shots per game: 0.2
  • Duels won per game: 5.3

Tottenham’s interest in Arsenal target

Spurs appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager on 31 March, but this would not affect their interest in the rising star.

A source gave this information sports witness Tottenham Hotspur have also kept Maxi Araujo on their agenda after initiating contact.

The north London club are still struggling to sign the Uruguay international despite Portugal’s latest claims that Arsenal have opened talks.

earlier today, we revealed Eight Premier League teams are following the South American.

Tottenham, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City. We are not aware of the approach or interest from the Gunners and the other two English clubs.

Araújo’s release clause is €80 million and recent claims state the Lions want €60 million. However, the same sources state sports witness A minimum of €45-50m is needed to secure his services in the summer window.

Our opinion: Tottenham need to stay in the PL

Spurs are now 18th in the table, two points behind 17th-placed West Ham United. Both the teams have four matches left in this season.

Tottenham Hotspur must avoid relegation from the Premier League to have a chance of signing Maxi Araujo in the summer.

Despite remaining in the top flight, Spurs face competition from other English clubs to obtain his signature. With or without Tottenham, there is likely to be a battle for the Sporting star.

Detroit Tigers surprise fans with $150 million deal for rising star

The Detroit Tigers have made a surprise shutout of a rising star in MLB. The Tigers and infielder Kevin McGonigal have finalized an eight-year, $150 million contract extension, the team announced. Rising star tells of struggle to reach the top – transfer to Liverpool is his desire

Yann Diomande
Mainz, Germany – September 13, 2025: Yann Diomande – Bundesliga Match 1. FSV Mainz 05 vs RB Leipzig at the Meiwe Arena.

RB Leipzig sensation Yann Diomande has detailed his battle to reach the top, as he eyes a move to Liverpool in the future.

Sportbild had a big interview with the 19-year-old todayIn which he has given details of his struggle to reach where he is today.

Diomande left his family for football

Yann Diomande has become one of the Bundesliga’s breakout stars since joining Leipzig in a €20m deal last summer. Since then, he has scored 11 goals and eight assists in 29 games in all competitions.

It’s rapid progress for a young player who was playing for the U.S. team DME Academy four years ago. He joined CD Leganés in Spain in January 2025 and then moved to Germany last summer.

He is now being linked with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, with Leipzig valuing him at €100m. Diomande also admitted at the beginning of the year He wants to play for Liverpool somedayint.

Diomande could not have been more blunt, saying: “I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big Liverpool fan. My dad dreams of seeing me play at Anfield!”

However, for now he is being patient. “I still have big goals. Everything comes in its time,” He said.

childhood struggle

Diomande grew up in harsh conditions in Abidjan. His father moved to France, leaving the family in a cramped house with very little money. Football became his escape.

“I left my family and went to a village where I could play,” he explained. “This was my passion and a chance to achieve something.”

However, football was not easy at that time. The pitches were scorched and most of the children were playing wearing sandals. Diomande did the same, until an academy coach gave him his first real shoes. He even slept at the coach’s house because home life was very difficult.

Despite his struggles, his talent blossomed and he was soon offered admission to Yulee High School in Florida. But his family could only afford one ticket, meaning he went alone. That came with its own challenges.

“I was far away from my family, friends and my country. It was very difficult in the beginning. Of course, everything in America was different from Africa.

“Plus, there was a huge time difference, so we weren’t able to talk to each other very often. I arrived there and couldn’t speak a word of English. But I learned the language on my own within a few months using the Duolingo app.”

“In America, people mainly like football and basketball. But when I played on the football team there, more and more spectators came. They wanted to watch me and my friends and have liked football ever since. It made me proud.”

Europe’s stance

In early 2025, Spanish side Leganés offered him a contract. Yann Diomande did not hesitate.

“When you come from Africa, it’s a big opportunity for you and your whole family. You know, as a child, I always told them at home that I would be a professional footballer. I kept my word. It makes me incredibly proud that I can support my family at such a young age.”

Not long ago, he was making his debut against Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappe. “I was so excited that I didn’t think about it before or after.

“I couldn’t sleep, I was promoted to the first team just two days before the game, and I never dreamed they would include me in the squad against Real Madrid. When they told me, I was extremely happy and immediately called my mother.”

Liverpool in the future?

Now the focus is on the future. Whether he will remain at RB Leipzig after the summer is uncertain.

A report in late March emphasized that Liverpool ready to make move to sign him As a replacement for Mohamed Salah. Either way Diomande has big ambitions.

“My brother once told me that I should win everything there is to win. And that’s exactly what I’m trying to do: I want to win every title someday. And I know I can do it.”

Manchester City have the world’s ‘elite’ young player on their hands – big plans for the rising star

Victor Reis

It will be difficult for Verona to retain Manchester City’s Vitor Reis beyond this season.

Baltimore Orioles extend rising starting pitcher to $68 million contract

The Baltimore Orioles have moved on from one of their young starting pitchers after Opening Day. The Orioles and starting pitcher Shane Baz are finalizing a five-year, $68 million contract extension, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports. The Falcons were acquired by Baltimore in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays during the MLB offseason.

The 26-year-old starting pitcher is getting a contract extension before taking the field for the Orioles in a regular season game. In 2025, Baz posted a 4.87 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 31 games for the Rays. The extension comes with risk, as Baz has a history of serious right elbow injuries in Tampa.

Baz underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery to remove the loose body in March 2022. The former Tampa Bay pitcher later entered the injured list with an elbow sprain in July 2022 before undergoing Tommy John surgery in September. Baz missed the entire 2023 MLB season, but returned to action in 2024, splitting time between the minors and MLB.

The 2025 MLB season was his first season at full health; However, the Rays’ temporary home at Steinbrenner Field affected their pitching. The Falcons had a 5.90 ERA at home compared to a 3.86 ERA on the road. This is an unbalanced value which is not indicative of their actual performance in 2025.

Baltimore was encouraged to offer an extension after trading four prospects and the No. 33 pick in the 2026 MLB Draft to the Falcons during the winter. The new contract will cover three arbitration seasons and buy out two free agent years. The Orioles are confident in his ability to be a frontline starter for the next five years.

Baltimore will now have the Falcons and their electric pitching arsenal at Camden Yards during the 2030 MLB season.

5 Premier League clubs for Benfica player – exciting times for rising star

Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Crystal Palace are keeping an eye on Benfica right-back Daniel Banzaqui. The rapid growth of adolescents has begun to attract serious attention throughout Europe.

The 18-year-old has been quietly building momentum in Benfica’s system, which will have attracted the attention of Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Crystal Palace. He has featured regularly for Benfica B this season and has also played in the UEFA Youth League, a competition the club consistently uses to hone elite prospects.

Banzaqui’s output is beginning to match the hype. Operating as an attacking full-back, he has contributed 2 goals and 4 assists in 21 appearances in Benfica B and youth competitions this season. Additionally, his minutes have steadily increased, which reflects the growing confidence of the coaching staff.

Those numbers tell only part of the story. His profile stands out due to his ability to carry the ball and create from wide areas. According to statistics from platforms such as FBref, he ranks highly among Benfica B defenders for progressive carries and touches in the final third.

That combination – the end product and the progress – explains why clubs in England are paying attention. Benfica have a long track record of developing full-backs who move for significant fees, and Banzaqui appears to be next in line.

Interest in Premier League emerged

That broader context makes Portugal’s latest update particularly relevant.

morning mail Report Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Crystal Palace are all closely following the defender. Clubs from Spain, Germany and Italy are also in the picture, while Paris Saint-Germain have made preliminary enquiries.

We covered it in early March liverpool and chelsea Were already keeping an eye on him. So now faced with that level of interest, Benfica have moved quickly to secure his future.

Daniel Banzaqui’s decision and the Benfica plan

Despite attracting interest from across Europe, Daniel Banzaqui has decided to stay at Benfica and continue his development.

The Portuguese outlet reports that there is an agreement in place for a contract until 2031, with the release clause set at €80m (£69m). The deal is expected to be formalized after he returns from international duty with the Portugal under-21 team.

The important thing is that the project presented before them goes beyond financial point of view. Benfica have outlined a clear route into the first team for the 2026/27 season.

There is also a structural reason why that opportunity may come sooner. The club is ready to sell Alexander Bah or Amar Dedic, who would create a space at right-back.

Furthermore, the presence of Jose Mourinho has played a role. The teen reportedly values the opportunity to develop under him.

what happens next

Daniel Banzaqui’s decision reflected the familiar Benfica pattern. The club retains control early, develops the player further, and only sells when the value has peaked.

For Premier League clubs, this becomes a long-term monitor rather than an immediate opportunity. However, the level of interest already suggests he is firmly on their radar.

If his progress continues and he establishes himself in the first team, the current England focus is likely to increase rather than decrease.

The competition could increase even more between Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

“I love Liverpool” – Sunderland’s rising star on football inspiration

Sunderland

Sunderland striker Eliezer Mayenda has revealed his preference for Liverpool stems from his love for Fernando Torres.

world madrid Interviewed the Sunderland striker this week.

He discussed his career so far, his international aspirations and how Torres was instrumental in a big decision in his career.

Sunderland player has Spanish roots

Born in 2005 to a Congolese father and a Togolese mother, Mayenda grew up moving between countries.

The family later moved to Zaragoza, Spain, where he was born. He left the city for Paris at the age of nine, but his time in Spain never left him.

He started his football career with CD Ebro and has been a part of the Spanish youth team since 2022. He has already played for them at U17, U20 and U21 level.

The decision to represent him was left up to the 20-year-old and he was heavily influenced by the former Liverpool striker.

“Torres debuted at a very young age, at a time when it was not common to do so early,” The Sunderland striker explained.

“I recognize him. It’s also important that when I played Pro Evolution Soccer with my brother, Fernando Torres was there, playing for Liverpool. I really enjoyed playing with the English team.”

Torres’ love is equal to Liverpool love

Sunderland’s Eliezer Mayenda shares his affection for Liverpool and Fernando Torres inspiration

In fact, it is the relationship with Torres that has endeared him to Torres’ former club as well.

He is one of Liverpool’s most prolific strikers, scoring a record 81 goals in 142 appearances in all competitions in three and a half seasons at Anfield.

At the time, Torres was the fastest Liverpool player in history to reach 50 league goals, having done so in just 72 matches. He also broke the record of most goals scored by a foreign player in the first season of the Premier League with 24 goals.

That record, along with several others, propelled him to third place in the Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the Year rankings in 2008.

And it also left a big impact on young Mayenda.

sunderland valor

“I identify with Fernando Torres; he also debuted at a very young age… I love Liverpool,” He added.

For now, the focus is on impressing at Sunderland. He’s already a hero there after scoring the goal against Sheffield United in last year’s play-off final.

Now he wants more experiences like this with the Black Cats, and maybe score a goal at the World Cup like his hero Torres.

“God willing, there will be more important goals in the future,” He concluded.

“That match at Wembley was special because all my family were there. I seem to be a very nice person, but at that moment I felt like I was swimming.”

There is plenty of time for the youngster to create more special memories with Sunderland. Now away from the Spanish U21 team, which is a very talented group, Eliezer Mayenda will be seeing his ambitions grow even further.

Rising NFL Draft prospect ‘getting a lot of interest from the New England Patriots’

After their Super Bowl loss, the New England Patriots are moving forward in the best way possible, by targeting more roster upgrades. We’ve already seen Patriots general manager Eliot Wolf hit the ground running in free agency again, reaching contracts with guys like Romeo Dobbs, Elijah Vera-Tucker, Draymont Jones, and Kevin Byard, to name a few.

While there will certainly be some minor free agency involved in the upcoming season, the Patriots will also have to turn their attention to the 2026 NFL Draft, which will take place April 23-25. The Patriots have 11 selections for the three-day event, and they may be focusing on one of their targets.

According to NFL insider Tony Pauline of Essential Sports, Georgia tight end prospect Oscar Delap is receiving “a lot of interest” from the Patriots.

Delap recently “crushed” his Georgia Pro Day by running a consensus but unofficial time of 4.48 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He combined this with a vertical jump of 38 inches. Pauline noted that Delp’s position work was “excellent”.

He even drew comparisons to Georgia alumnus Brock Bowers after running “quick, crisp routes” and catching the ball “extremely well.” While many regard Oregon’s Kenyon Saadiq as the best prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft, Poulin says “Delap is now in the conversation for TE2.”

While the Patriots may be keeping an eye on Delp with the 63rd or 95th overall pick, he also met with the Carolina Panthers after a workout. They certainly aren’t the only team interested in the 6-foot-5 tight end.

JB Bickerstaff explains why Cade Cunningham MVP buzz is rising

Detroit Pistons point guard Cade Cunningham’s MVP case continues to gain significant momentum. The Pistons recently defeated the Orlando Magic 106-92. This marks the most regular season wins for Detroit since 2007–08 with 45, and the Pistons’ All-Star was a major reason for that.

Cunningham had another impressive performance with 29 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and two steals. He even took a defensive step, taking on the challenge of guarding Magic forward Paolo Banchero. Pistons head coach JB Bickerstaff has been a big supporter of Cunningham as an MVP candidate. He continued that campaign in front of the media after the Pistons’ win in Orlando.

Bickerstaff explained, “He’s special because of the type of person he is. He’s special because of the type of teammate he is. It’s a blessing to be with him and work with him every day.” “The basketball skills speak for themselves. There’s nothing on the court he can’t do on both ends of the court. He can score, he can share it, he can manipulate, he can get stops, block shots and get steals. Whatever you want him to do on the basketball court, he’s able to do it, and it’s not hollow. Everything he does, he has winning in his mind.”

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remains the current betting favorite for the coveted MVP award. Cunningham is currently ranked third in the highest ranking. Despite the buzz of the Thunder guard winning awards in back-to-back seasons for Oklahoma City, there is still plenty of regular season left for Cunningham to make his case.

Gilgeous-Alexander missed the last nine games due to injury. If he misses six more games, he will no longer be eligible for MVP. Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic also missed a long time due to a knee injury. Jokic can only miss one more game before his eligibility is up. The Nuggets have also moved into the fifth seed in the Western Conference after going 4-7 through February.

Cunningham has 23 games left in the regular season to stake his claim. He is currently averaging 25.4 points, 9.8 assists and 5.8 rebounds in the 2025-26 regular season. These stats place him in the top-15 in scoring and second-best in assists. Cunningham has also totaled 33 double-doubles this season as the Pistons’ leading guard.

His exceptional production has helped lead Detroit to a 45–14 record. This leaves them in first place in the Eastern Conference and with the best winning percentage in the entire NBA. Detroit has made tremendous changes since drafting Cunningham. After the success they have achieved this season and last season, they have left their days as one of the worst losing teams behind them.

Cunningham has also played on several nationally televised stages to help present his game more publicly among the league’s voters. The Pistons have eight more nationally televised games before the season ends. The Pistons should continue to emerge as the best team in the league record-wise, with an elite level of production from their 2026 All-Star starter. Cunningham could carve out a legitimate path to becoming the first Pistons player to win MVP in franchise history.

Donovan Mitchell reveals the true message he gave to rising star

Participating in his first NBA All-Star Weekend, Jaylon Tyson was at the free-throw line during the Rising Stars game when his Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Donovan Mitchell literally announced his presence, and yelled at him as he walked to the front row of Crypto.com Arena. While trying to concentrate on making the shot, the 23-year-old lost focus after laughing and dropped it.

“I was trying to win MVP. I’m not going to lie. I was trying to get it,” Tyson recalled during practice last week. “And he’s yelling something in there. But I made it.”

Unfortunately, Tyson’s Tracy McGrady-led Team T-Mac did not have a chance to reach the title match; That doesn’t mean Tyson couldn’t bring out his true self. He led his team with 10 points and five rebounds in 11 minutes.

Tyson said, “The game, I wasn’t that happy because it was only five minutes, and then we had to go off the court.” “So I wanted to keep playing the whole game.”

Tyson dished out two assists, one of which was a highlight reel hook-up with Miami Heat big man Kel’El Ware on an alley-oop while turning the corner. Having missed the opportunity as a rookie, he took this as a chance to show what he was capable of with all eyes on the league’s biggest weekend.

“He plays hard,” Mitchell said. “He plays hard. He’s picking up the whole court. He’s doing all the things. I wish he’d get some help out there. He’s rebounding. He’s passing. He’s doing everything.”

“It’s been nice sharing the court with those guys. In my mind, I know I’m better than a lot, if not all, of those guys,” Tyson said. “I just want to go out there and prove it every day, and then, hopefully, be an All-Star one day.”

Unlike many talents who stay the weekend in Los Angeles, Tyson flew home after Friday to recuperate and prepare himself for the second half of the season. Mitchell was impressed with his professionalism in handling his first All-Star Weekend. He also made sure the talented young forward’s presence was felt when it came to 3-point contests.

Mitchell wore Tyson’s number 20 with his name on the back, as he had done with Sam Merrill’s uniform a few years earlier.

“It was great,” Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson said. “They have a great relationship. Donovan has embraced Jaylon from day one. The first thing he looked at him, he said, ‘This kid has this crazy work ethic.’ It reminds me a lot of Donovan. So I think he’s a big part of Jaylon’s development. It really helps when your best player contributes to the development of a young player. I thought it was a good move to do so.”

Although Tyson joked that his jersey was “a little big” for Mitchell, he felt his teammate’s love, and that’s nothing new.

Tyson said, “He’s one of those guys that I’ll have a relationship with throughout my career and beyond.” “I’m so grateful to have her. Honestly, I feel like I give her a lot of credit for that year. I go back to that text message; I don’t think people understand how much that text message meant to me and how much confidence it gave me. So I give her a lot of credit for all my success.”

Tyson is referring to when Mitchell approached him in the offseason about “his need” and his confidence in stepping into a bigger role. Mitchell admitted he hasn’t had the kind of year he’s had this year, with the second-year swingman averaging 13.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 27.4 minutes per game with the league’s third-best three-point shooting percentage (45.6%) and top-20 effective field goal percentage (60.0%).

It helps to have a shoulder to lean on when things go in different directions, and it was the subject of a heart-to-heart conversation as the two flew to LA together before the festivities began in mid-February.

“I was like, ‘Hey, this can’t be a 40-point night for you. This can’t be a 30-point night. This can’t be a start, this can’t be this,'” Mitchell said. “I told him, ‘Man, you’ve already shown that you’re capable.’ You’ve already shown a lot.” [than] More people have done this in their careers, and you have done it in a little more than half a year.

“So for him to adjust to his role and be OK with it is definitely impressive for a second-year guy. We’ll be on him, and he’s got to continue to earn everything he’s been doing. Nothing is a given, but he’s doing a good job. We’ve got to keep that going.”

Jaylon Tyson, the Cavs’ direction and the reality of the NBA

Since Cleveland shifted its roster with the acquisitions of James Harden, Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis, the young players have seen a change in their responsibilities and a decrease in playing time. The veterans brought him in because of his experience and the need to adjust to a new group. As a result, players who were praised for their readiness throughout the season have been taken down a peg.

For example, Craig Porter Jr. and Naquan Tomlin have been left out of the current rotation. Tyson is still in the everyday lineup, but not in the same order.

“Defend, rebound, limit mistakes, make shots. That’s what it’s about,” Atkinson said. “In situations like this your package gets reduced, and he understands that, and he’s been great. I think he had a pretty good stretch; that’s how he got in the rotation, right? But now, living forward and looking at the playoffs, we’re seeing a similar role.”

“Once everyone comes back, once we’re fully healthy, it’s going to be a huge sacrifice,” Tyson said. “Whatever that looks like, obviously, the roles will change. But just buying into that role and doing something bigger than any one of us.”

Before Cleveland hosted the New York Knicks on Tuesday, Atkinson was surprisingly tough on Tyson, who played back-to-back games with less than 17 minutes left. This was his lowest total of playing time since late October.

When asked how he can get back to his normal amount of burn, Atkinson explained that Tyson and the guys playing the role have to earn it because of the short window for Cleveland to put the pieces in place before the postseason.

“It’ll come out on its own. It’s definitely a change for him,” Atkinson said. “I understand that, as a young player, it’s not easy. You go from scoring 39 points a couple weeks ago to, ‘My minutes are down a little bit.’ And I think he probably had some games where he wasn’t playing at that elite level. We’ve obviously added three new guys, three new rotation guys. So, it’s been cut a little differently.”

Tyson answers the call

Later that night, Atkinson praised Tyson for excelling in everything that was asked of him, especially guarding Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns.

“That was kind of the blueprint right there,” Atkinson said. “Offensively, played in the short role, hit catch-and-shoot threes, limited his mistakes, and then played very good defense. We put him out there on the KAT, and he’s big and strong enough to defend him and put pressure on him and bother him.

“Behind Dean, can he be a perimeter stopper? He’s shown he can do that. He’s played really well all year. As young players, [they] Will probably make a few more mistakes than a vet like Dean, but if he wants big playoff minutes, this will have to be it. Can you become our job keeper? It’s a really positive trend: defensive numbers are good, size, obviously, a good rebounder. But there is development. It’s really, ‘Make fewer mistakes and be more solid.’ [with] Game plan stuff.”

Tyson finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists, recording one steal and one block each, turning it over only once. Mitchell was encouraged by Tyson’s performance during the game.

“You saw him tonight as a 5-man, his formation and playing the pick and roll,” Mitchell said. “Pass to him, he’s got a layup, he’s got a floater, he’s making decisions. That’s what we’re going to need from him. That’s his bread and butter.”

While empathizing with how he may be feeling, Atkinson believes Tyson is handling the transition well.

“I don’t think it’s easy for anyone, but he’s an extremely mature person,” Atkinson said. “He gets it. He’s got great veteran support, not just coaches, but vets who explain to him what it looks like, and we have these discussions as a team. And it’s not just Jaylon, right? It’s other role players. It’s Keon. It’s Dennis. It’s just part of the situation when you have a lot of good players on your roster.”

Who knows how Harden’s broken right thumb will affect his role? For example, he probably won’t suit up for 35 minutes per night as he did in Thursday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, as Mitchell and Evan Mobley also missed that game. It appears that Max Strus is on track to make a comeback at some point.

With Mitchell suffering a groin problem, Ellis suffering a fractured left index finger, Schroder suffering a sprained left ankle and Dean Wade suffering a right ankle injury, Tyson will need to return to his pre-trade duties. It’s a constant push and pull.

But whatever is required of him, Tyson will keep his head down and do whatever is asked of him to help the Cavs win.

“I feel like it’s just part of the NBA,” Tyson said. “Unless you’re a superstar, your role is going to change, and I think the best role players adapt to that. It’s something I’ve had to learn to do. I don’t mind that, OK, because obviously, I just want to win. James is here, he wants to win.

“I want to be a member to help him win and get that ring; the city of Cleveland, Donovan, everybody. I want to be a member to help them.”

Yang Hansen fakes Donovan Klingon for Rising Stars bucket

Portland Trail Blazers fans are accustomed to seeing Yang Hansen and Donovan Clingan working together to clog up the paint at Moda Center. However, Friday night’s NBA Rising Stars game forced the Twin Towers into a rare confrontation, which left Klingon on the wrong side of a viral moment.

The energy inside the building soared as the two giants faced off, turning a friendly exhibition into a massive battle for bragging rights in the locker room.

The highlight of the night came when Hansen was isolated against the Klingons at the top of the Keys. Hansen, China’s 7-foot-3 skilled center, gave a quick shoulder shimmy before selling a fake jump shot that completely fooled his teammates.

Klingon made things a little more difficult to pass, moving to the perimeter while Hansen calmly slid past him to the rim. Henson finished the game with an easy bucket and a cheeky smile, and clearly enjoyed the chance to put his fellow rookie on the highlight reel.

Henson finished as the high-point man for Team Austin, scoring 10 points and one rebound while going 4 of 5 from the free-throw line. Team Melo ultimately won 65–60, but Henson’s offensive versatility was the talk of the field.

Clingan, on the other hand, proved why he is a defensive threat by recording 3 rebounds, although those defensive stats may not be enough to nullify the pump fake just yet.

The game reached its climax when Dylan Harper hit the game-winning shot over his brother Ron Harper Jr., but the Trail Blazers’ internal rivalry provided the most entertaining subplot of the evening.

Portland has invested heavily in its frontcourt, and seeing both players flourish on the national stage confirms that the franchise is moving in the right direction.

VJ Edgecombe gives up NBA championship pursuit after Rising Stars win

Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe has officially added the first of many awards to his NBA career: Rising Stars MVP.

Taking the court for Team Vince Carter, Edgecombe scored back-to-back game winners and clearly looked like the best player on the court whenever he wore the jersey, which is high praise indeed, considering players like Derrick Queen were also participating in the event.

And yet, as pleasing as it is for Edgecombe to secure the tournament, as was the MVP trophy that came with it, Edgecombe was not ready to rest on his laurels. No. When asked about his win after the game, Edgecombe explained that he was happy to get his first championship win of the calendar year, even though he would like to add another win to his resume in a few months.

“It feels so good, man. It feels so good, baby. For Philly, baby,” Edgecombe declared. “You know, hopefully that championship at Rising Stars will be the first championship I get this season.”

On paper, Edgecombe’s confidence was evident in terms of both his individual performances and the quality of his team. While Daryl Morey famously didn’t add a player to his roster before the trade deadline, instead opting to trade forward Jared McCann for four draft picks and Eric Gordon with one pick, the 76ers are still a top-6 team in the Eastern Conference and could theoretically punch their ticket to the NBA Finals for the first time in the Joel Embiid era if things don’t go their way this spring. Given that Edgecomb ranks second on the team in minutes, it’s safe to say that Philly will be counting on him to deliver them to the promised land early and often in May and June.

@lukatroncic23 wrote, “We drafted Valdez Edgecombe Jr. I have literal tears in my eyes right now.”

“Vince got a ring before Melo and T-Mac,” @SeahawksNicca posted, referring to Vince Carter, Carmelo Anthony and Tracy McGrady, who were selected as Rising Stars coaches along with Austin Rivers.

@K1utchSzn commented, “VJ Edgecombe hit game-winners in both Rising Stars games. This guy chose All-Star Weekend to announce himself to the world.”

Edgecombe joins Allen Iverson and Andre Iguodala as the 76ers’ only players be named mvp Of rising stars.

“Vince, you know, he wanted me to be aggressive the whole time. I showed him that. I just tried to show him why he picked me as his first choice, which was a blessing,” Edgecomb said in the postgame conference.
