Wednesday’s thrilling game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets was marred by controversy after Naz Reed was ejected in overtime.

Reed was ejected with 4:13 remaining in the extension after arguing with referee Scott Foster following an offensive foul call. Reid was whistled for a violation against Alpern Sengun, but the Timberwolves challenged it. The review upheld the decision, prompting Reed to say something. However, Foster was not having it and threw Reed out.

The Timberwolves were trailing, 100–95. That time. They eventually won the game 110–108. Naz Reed finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

Ax fans became angry at Foster, who also heard his controversial decision from the crowd at the Target Center.

This isn’t the first time that Foster has been slammed by fans for his questionable actions. He is one of the most experienced referees in the NBA.

His relationship with Donaghy, the disgraced referee convicted of game-fixing, was questioned a few years ago.

Minnesota won four of its last five assignments to move to 45–28, while Houston fell to 43–29.

Julius Randle sank the game-winning bucket with 8.8 seconds remaining to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves past the Houston Rockets 110-108 in overtime on Wednesday at Target Center.

The Timberwolves had to come back In an expansion to dispose of the Rockets and improve to 45-28.

They also had to endure the loss of Naz Reed in overtime after he was ejected by referee Scott Foster after a critical call.

Randle’s courageous basket felt like poetic justice for the Timberwolves, and the veteran forward made his true feelings known after the game, as SB Nation’s Ryan Eichten reported.

“Julius Randle is walking down the hallway to the locker room right now: ‘Scott Foster didn’t do this,'” Eichten wrote on X.

The Timberwolves were trailing by five points when Reid scored with 4:13 left in overtime.

Randle finished with 24 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals, while Reed had 14 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

In a postgame interview with ESPN, the 31-year-old Randle Gave credit for this to my colleaguesAlso admitted that they now have the tie-breaker against the Rockets.

“We’re ready for now. It’s as simple as that,” Randall said.

Jaden McDaniels added 25 points, two steals and two blocks, while Rudy Gobert added 14 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks.

The Timberwolves are still without Anthony Edwards due to a knee injury.

GM Brad Treliving saved most of his work for the last moments of trade deadline day, making his second deal just below the buzzer at 3 p.m. ET. Pending unrestricted free agent Scott Lawton is headed to the Los Angeles Kings.

Like the earlier Bobby McMann deal, the Leafs did not secure a first-round pick for Laughton (nor were they expected to). They will settle for a conditional third-rounder from the Kings. If LA makes the playoffs this season it becomes a second-round pick. They are currently three points off the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.

Treliving had to give up Toronto’s 2027 first-round pick plus prospect Nikita Grebenkin when they acquired Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers at last year’s trade deadline. This is clearly a huge net loss for Treliving. They traded a first-rounder and a good prospect for a third-round pick (or second at best). A big L for the tree.

Laughton spent one calendar year with his hometown team and recorded 10 goals and 16 points in 63 games. Was it worth the decline in draft position for Toronto? Not so much.

What does Scott Lawton bring to the LA Kings?

The reliable bottom-six forward brings experienced leadership and secondary scoring (at times) to the Kings. He also has a high hockey IQ and a serious, physical edge to his game.

This isn’t exactly the kind of move many were expecting from the Kings at the deadline, as the team was in desperate need of scoring. Laughton probably won’t bring them that.

The Kings have lost two offensive players in the last few weeks. Kevin Fiala is out for the season due to a fractured foot suffered during a game with Switzerland during the Olympics. Andrei Kuzmenko was lost for the foreseeable future after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus. The Kings lineup has yielded 32 goals. Then again, that’s not coming from Laughton.

They made their big move last month by acquiring Artemi Panarin from the NY Rangers. But it won’t be enough to save the Kings’ offense after the latest injuries, which ranks 29th in the NHL in goals per game.

As far as the Leafs are concerned, their final tally at the trade deadline is as follows:

IN: 2027 (or ’28) first rounder, 2027 second rounder, 2026 fourth rounder, 2026 fifth rounder + conditional third rounder

The Toronto Maple Leafs are poised to be a very busy seller this week. The trading deadline will take effect on Friday at 3pm Eastern. The pending unrestricted free agents are most likely to be gone, although the majority of the team is available at the right price.

Scott Lawton knows all about getting dealt on deadline. Exactly a year earlier, he had been acquired by Toronto from the Philadelphia Flyers. And he has made it clear that he loves every minute of playing for his hometown team.

“It’s tough sometimes. But, at the end of the day, you’re in the NHL and one of the best franchises. It’s a very enjoyable opportunity to play here and it’s a special place… I love it here,” Laughton told TSN’s Mark Masters.

But with no real progress on an extension, there’s a very real possibility that Laughton could be wearing a new uniform by the weekend. Insider Elliotte Friedman thinks the hard-working center would be ideal for a surefire Stanley Cup contender in the West.

Laughton joins the Avalanche as the deadline approaches

On Sunday’s NHL on TNT, Friedman was discussing the possibility of the Colorado Avalanche reacquiring Nazem Kadri from the Calgary Flames. He told the Crew that Kadri’s $7 million cap hit would be very difficult for them to fit into their cap structure going forward. She’ll need to get her house in order for the big kale maker extension coming in the summer. Then he called Laughton’s name.

I heard one of the centers that could end up in Colorado is Scott Lawton. I think he’ll be a great fit. It will cost more.

The 31-year-old’s five-year, $15 million contract ($3M AAV) expires at the end of the season.

Laughton was a regular double-digit goal-scorer in his last few years with the Flyers, averaging 30 to 40 points annually. However, his numbers have dwindled in Toronto on the offensive end. This year, he has found the net eight times with 12 points in 42 games.

But it’s the intangibles that Laughton brings that create value. He provides leadership on and off the ice, works hard and plays with physical intensity. A gritty, bottom-six center back that any contending team could use.

The Avalanche, in particular, are in the market for a third-row center. And this is not the first time that he has been linked to the team. His one-on-one acumen (56.7% this season), and his reasonable cap hit also make him a good fit for Colorado’s needs.

In what could be his final game with the Leafs, Laughton will face his old team, the Flyers, on Monday night.

When the 2026 offseason arrives, the future of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will be up in the air. The 23-year-old veteran has not yet decided how long he wants to continue playing until his current contract with the Lakers expires. Of course, if James wants to continue his career he can always re-sign with the Lakers. But count former Laker Byron Scott as someone who doesn’t believe it should be that way.

During a recent appearance on Los Angeles radio station Power 106, Scott talked about why he thinks LeBron James should not be included in the Lakers’ future after this season.

Scott said, “Coming from one of the greatest players to ever play the game, I thought it was ridiculous that it’s harder to play now than it was then.” “I’m a fan, but I don’t mince words. I think this should be his last year here. You don’t have to go home, but you have to get out of here.”

Looking at Scott’s comments, it seems like his argument is based more on emotions rather than James’ talent and fit with the current Lakers team. It doesn’t look like the debate between players and fans over the strength of the era will end any time soon.

What is not debatable is how the Lakers’ acquisition of James helped bring the franchise out of irrelevance following Kobe Bryant’s retirement. After signing with the Lakers as a free agent in the 2018 offseason, James led the organization to its first championship in a decade and helped keep the Lakers a relevant playoff contender in the following years.

This season, James has appeared in 40 games, a little more than 33 minutes per game. He averaged 21.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.1 steals on 49.8 percent shooting from the field, 29.9 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 74.8 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
