The Toronto Raptors have fallen in the Eastern Conference standings, as they have failed to keep up with the top four teams in the conference. A loss like the 120-98 defeat to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night won’t do much to further their cause. In fact, it’s a big concern for the Raptors that they failed to perform against a team that was dominant for the second night in a row, never mind that the game was held at the Mortgage Matchup Center.

The entire team wasn’t very good on Sunday, the main culprit being Brandon Ingram. Ingram scored only six points on 3-10 shooting from the field, while Immanuel Quickley (11 points on 4-9 shooting) and RJ Barrett (13 points on 5-8 shooting) weren’t very good either. But for backup point guard Jamal Sheed, another bad game is a continuation of what is already becoming a worrisome trend.

Sheed has struggled throughout the calendar month of March; The Raptors guard is averaging just 3.3 points on 27.3 percent shooting from the field. Anyway, Scotty Barnes has the support of his peers completely.

“[I would tell him to] Just stay aggressive. Our team, we believe in him. He comes down the slope and creates a lot for us. We know he’ll be able to do that every night. He’s going to come in to play defense. I think that’s what we’re focused on,” Barnes said in his postgame presser, via Omar Osman of Raptors Updates.

Sheed has been a huge part of what the Raptors are doing this season, and it would be foolish to suddenly lose confidence in him during a difficult stretch. But with Toronto dangerously close to falling into the play-in tournament picture, Shead and the rest of the team will have to figure it out quickly.

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without a key contributor for the remainder of the season, as guard Scottie Pippen Jr. has season-ending toe surgery.

According to ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel, Pippen underwent a successful sesamoidectomy on Tuesday to relieve discomfort in his right big toe. The procedure will sideline him for the remainder of the 2025–26 campaign, although he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2026–27 season.

Pippen last appeared on March 7 in Memphis’ 123–120 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. In that outing, he recorded 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal while shooting 4-for-7 from the field and 2-for-3 from the free throw line, including a three-pointer in 23 minutes.

The 25-year-old just finished his fourth NBA season and third with Memphis, providing steady production in a limited sample size. In 10 games, including six starts, Pippen averaged 11.4 points, 4.7 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game. He also posted a career-high 1.9 steals per contest while shooting 44.8% from the field, 31.3% from beyond the arc and a career-best 78.3% from the free throw line in 21.2 minutes per game.

His absence increases the challenges for the Grizzlies team going through a difficult period at the end of the season. Memphis currently has a 23-44 record and is on an eight-game losing streak.

The Grizzlies will try to regroup when they return home to open a two-game homestand against the Denver Nuggets (41-27) on Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 pm ET as Memphis looks to stabilize its rotation and end the season on a strong note despite Pippen’s absence.

The Toronto Raptors have to be very concerned that they can’t buy a win against a top-10 opponent in the NBA. Their troubles against the best teams in the league continued on Wednesday, as they let a very winnable game against the San Antonio Spurs slip through their fingers with a choke job in the fourth quarter, as they ultimately lost 110-107 at home.

The Raptors are now 4-15 against teams with top-10 records, and this could be their most crushing defeat yet. Most of their losses against tough opposition were not very close, as their opponent had their way against Toronto. But this was a game in which they led by double figures in the fourth, but allowed the Spurs to attack them in the final frame, with even Victor Wembanyama struggling with his shot all night.

A possible reason for the Raptors’ poor performance in the end was Scottie Barnes being less than 100 percent healthy. Barnes can legitimately defend one through five, and while his offensive game isn’t great on the perimeter, his two-way play is incredible. According to PBP stats, his net rating is plus-6.1, which is the best in the team.

Atlanta Hawks star Jalen Johnson has drawn immense praise for his game this season. Johnson was named an All-Star for the first time in his career and has picked up a lot of fanfare around the league. His above-the-rim play, penchant for triple-doubles, and all-around skill have often drawn comparisons to Bulls legend Scottie Pippen.

On the Mind the Game podcast in January, LeBron James spoke about Johnson. LeBron James set Johnson’s ceiling as the six-time champion.

“I’ve mentioned Scottie Pippen, man. Obviously, he has a long way to go, but as far as the talent. You look at a guy with long arms, 6-(foot)-9 (or) 6-10, runs like a deer, super athletic. He’s improved his outside touch.

James added, “Putting pressure on the rim. His ability to rebound. He can guard (positions) one through five for the majority of (opposing) ones and fives … And his playmaking. I see that he is going to continue to improve.”

Now, Hawks legend and broadcaster Dominique Wilkins is the latest to compare Johnson to Pippen. In an interview with Casino.org, Wilkins competed against the Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen-led Bulls during his time with the Hawks in the mid-’80s and sees the resemblance.

“Well, I must say he’s a little bit of Scottie Pippen as far as being a point forward. Pippen was a point forward, and was very effective at the position. This guy Jalen, he brings even another element, because the way he rebounds, the way he passes, and he flirts with a triple-double every single night.

Johnson is currently averaging 23.4 points per game, 10.8 rebounds, and 8.1 assists. He is now seen as the number one option on the team following the Hawks’ decision to trade Trae Young to the Wizards.

Following the fight between Memphis Grizzlies guard Scottie Pippen Jr. and Heat guard Myron Gardner over the weekend, the NBA world was waiting for some punishment to be handed down by the league, possibly in the form of a fine.

Sure enough, it was announced on Monday that Scottie Pippen Jr. and Myron Gardner were both fined $35,000 for their roles in the fight between the Grizzlies and Heat, according to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel.

The incident occurred late in the third quarter of the Heat’s win against the Grizzlies on Saturday. The game was well in hand when Pippen came down the court and attempted a 3-point shot. The shot missed but Gardner came up behind him and hit his back, sending Pippen to the floor.

On the way back to the court, Pippen called Gardner out and pounced on him, causing both players to step cautiously to the sidelines. Teammates, coaches and officials rushed in and eventually separated the pair.

For Heat rookie Gardner, this isn’t his first clash with an opposing player. In November, Gardner was caught on film talking trash to Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson. Following that incident, the Heat assistant coach brought Gardner to Thompson after the game to apologize for his actions.

In the NBA’s release regarding the fine, the league acknowledged that Gardner initiated the fight by pushing Pippen from behind. Both players were eventually ejected from the game, and afterward, Pippen said he felt like it was a cheap shot.

The smoke hasn’t completely cleared from the Kasia Center after Saturday night’s wrestling match between the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat, but Scottie Pippen Jr. is already winning the post-game war of words.

The “hug” in question looked like a forceful push that sent Gardner falling into the crowd with 1:19 left in the game.

The incident overshadowed a clinical 136–120 win for the Heat. Miami’s offense was stellar, led by Andrew Wiggins, who scored 28 points and passed the milestone of 15,000 career points. Norman Powell added 25 points as the Heat shot a whopping 54.5% from the field.

Despite the loss and early exit, the Memphis Grizzlies saw some bright spots. GG Jackson carried the scoring load with a season-high 28 points, while Jaylen Wells finished with 25 points. Before the ejection, Pippen Jr. finished with 18 points, six assists and two steals in just 21 minutes of action.

While the NBA league office is reviewing the tape for possible fines or suspension, Pippen’s “soft move” comments show there is no love lost between these two. Memphis has now lost 11 of their last 14 games, and while they are fighting for their playoff lives, Pippen proved they are not going down without a literal fight.

Basketball games can be heated, but things reached a boiling point in the final minutes of Saturday night’s NBA contest between the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat.

The friction began when Gardner gave a “cheap shot” from behind as Pippen released a 3-pointer. Pippen did not take the contact seriously, immediately attacking Gardner and pushing him toward the stands of the Cassia Center. The two wrestled briefly on the floor before coaches and officials could separate them.

Before the fireworks, the Heat put on a clincher, earning an impressive 136–120 victory. Andrew Wiggins led the way with an incredibly efficient 28 points on 9 of 10 shooting, even reaching 15,000 career points during the third quarter. Norman Powell added 25 points of his own, helping Miami lead 39–26 in the third quarter.

The Grizzlies, still playing without star guard Ja Morant due to an elbow injury, struggled to find a defensive rhythm. However, young forward GG Jackson provided a bright spot, exploding for a season-high 28 points.
