Southampton scouts in Portugal with split strategy – goals depend on play-off result

southampton Scouts have been sent to watch FC Porto win the title against Alverca, but their recruitment thinking is clouded by one major uncertainty.

His visit was confirmed by local outlets to ball And record. And while promotion is not yet secured, the club are heading into the Championship play-offs. This leaves two very different squad plans on the table.

That context probably shaped what they were looking for in Dragão.

Two scenarios shaping Southampton’s shortlist

If Southampton returns to the Premier League, their goals from this match become more ambitious.

Alberto Costa fits into that category. The 22-year-old right-back made a vital late intervention, clearing a shot off the line, and showed his ability to cover the field in both phases. Their profile suggests readiness for higher levels, while still providing room for growth.

Alan Varela also falls into the same category. Introducing in the second half, he showed composure in possession and positional discipline. Southampton will need midfield control at Premier League level, and Varela’s style suits that demand.

And if we’re talking energy and physicality, an obvious choice would be left-back Zaidou Sanusi, who Already a target for Leeds United.

Rodrigo Mora is the more ambitious name on this list. His cameo showed quality, but a move would likely depend on Southampton achieving promotion and being willing to expand financially.

Championship plans remain very different

If Southampton fail to go up, the focus immediately shifts.

In that case, Alvarca’s Chiquinho and Porto’s Pablo Rosario become more realistic targets in that scenario. Both provide experience and physical presence, which are vital in the Championship. Chiquinho’s direct running and Rosario’s midfield control would suit the demands of that league.

Alverca’s Davy Gui made a strong impact despite limited minutes. The 19-year-old player recorded 15 actions in just 12 minutes, bringing urgency and unpredictability. That type of profile can be developed further in a more structured environment.

Lincoln adds another option. His work rate and ability to contribute defensively and offensively for the visiting team will translate well to a higher-paced league.

Porto’s young right-back Martim Fernandes could also be considered as a depth option, especially given his composure in possession and potential for development.

wider context from the match

In addition to the specific shortlist, a number of players on the pitch will have been noted.

Diogo Costa made vital saves to preserve the result and continued to attract attention from across Europe. Gabriel Veiga assisted the winning goal and set the offensive stage, cementing his reputation.

Additionally, a familiar name for the saints led the celebration. Jan Bednarek scored the goal that sealed Porto’s title, Crowning a brilliant season for the defender. However, a move back to Southampton does not appear to be on the agenda.

what happens next

Southampton’s recruitment team faces a divided path. Promotion opens doors for players like Alberto Costa and Rodrigo Mora. The failure to move up turns the focus towards more practical additions such as Chiquinho and Pablo Rosario.

This uncertainty explains their extensive scouting approach in Portugal. Instead of targeting one profile, they are creating two parallel plans. The outcome of the playoffs will determine who becomes a reality.

Player ‘has become a priority’ for Bournemouth – scouts impressed, €35-40m for transfer

ivan nadika
ivan nadika

bournemouth AS Roma are showing interest in defender Ivan Ndika ahead of the summer transfer window.

225 foot report special information The 26-year-old reports today that Bournemouth’s scouts have made the defender one of their summer priorities.

bournemouth scheme

The website reports that Bournemouth are already planning for next season under new manager Marco Rose. With a potential European campaign on the way, they are looking to strengthen it.

According to 225ft, Ivan Nadika’s profile has caught their attention. His combination of physical strength and international experience ‘has become a priority’ for the Premier League club’s scouts.

At present no offer has been made to Roma. But after impressing for Roma, Ndika has gained a lot of respect at the club.

He joined the Italian team on a free transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023 and has since established himself as a key player at the club. He is now rated at €35 million, and this summer could be crucial as he enters the final two years of his deal.

There are also growing concerns at Roma that they need to sell this summer. The Serie A team is under pressure from UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules. They need to raise cash from sales this summer.

€40m asking price

Ivan Nadika is one of those people who has lovers all over Europe. And the Giallorossi would not rule out a departure if a concrete offer were made. Roma would like Earn at least €40m from any sale.

Whether this is a figure Bournemouth would be willing to pay has not been made clear. But they will need a replacement for Marcos Senesi this summer as he is set to depart on a free transfer.

The Argentine is a key player in their defense so there will be a need to spend money on a long-term replacement. Ndika could be that player, and it appears he is on the list after impressing Cherries scouts.

Wolverhampton scouts assess options in Portugal – familiar face adds extra layer

fc porto

wolverhampton wanderers The scout was at FC Porto’s 2-0 win over Tondela on Sunday.

portuguese outlet record It was reported that Wolves were one of three English clubs represented at the Dragão. Stoke City and Leicester City were the others.

Even with relegation from the Premier League now effectively looming, Wolves are still operating in a financial bracket above most Championship clubs, meaning they may at least be looking slightly higher up the board before reality sets in.

Without a doubt, Porto’s biggest names were there. Gabriel Veiga changed the game after half-time and Victor Froholdt scored again, while Rodrigo Mora produced another lively performance in the first half.

But those names come with their own problems. Neither can be considered a realistic post-resignation project. That’s why the more interesting Wolves angle may sit just below that level.

Other players who matter more

Winger Pepe is an obvious place to start. Before the break he was one of Porto’s main sources of threat. This was especially evident on the right side. Additionally, local coverage also highlighted his defensive work on a busy night.

At 29 he is not an unknown quantity, but he fits the type of player that Wolves could still look at if they feel the market is opening up. He is established, versatile and still capable of delivering real output from wide areas.

Alberto Costa looks like he has a long-term game. The 22-year-old right-back spent most of the match in advanced positions and was heavily involved in combinations down Porto’s flank.

He’s young, more approachable than elite names on the same side, and still has room for growth. For a club trying to rebuild smartly, that kind of profile often makes more sense. This is often better than pursuing the main task.

Then there is Deniz Gul. The 21-year-old attacker didn’t dominate the game from start to finish, but he still had a hand in both goals. He assisted Gabriel Veiga for the opener and helped create the second, a contribution the club noticed.

Young forwards who can impact a game, even when they are not at their peak ability, retain the interest of scouts. Wolves might have left thinking he was one of the more realistic attacking names on the show.

The goalkeeper resurfaces – and Tondela delivers other reminders

For Tondela, Bernardo Fontes was once again exceptional. The 23-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper of Italian citizenship saved the penalty. He has also been widely described as one of the pillars of Tondela’s season in Portugal.

His contract runs until 2029 and he has already built momentum after being named Liga Portugal’s second goalkeeper of the year last season. If Wolves wanted a name outside of Porto’s talent pool, Bernardo was the most obvious one there.

Rodrigo Conceição, Brian Medina and Juanse Rodriguez also gave Wolves something to think about.

Conceicao is a more practical full-back option. Medina brings size and a left-footed centre-back profile. Furthermore, Juanse Rodríguez (on loan from Ecuador’s LDU Quito) remains one of the young developmental names in the Tondela squad.

None of them weighed in on Bernardo on the night, but all three fit the market club’s radar when they’re trying to find value.

There was also a familiar face involved, as midfielder Joe Hodge started for Tondela. Wolves announced his permanent move in July 2025. However, this will still give them a chance to check in on a former player they know well.

Hodge, now 23, is under contract with Tondela through 2029, so his presence added another layer to the scouting visit.

For Wolves, this perhaps made it a more productive evening than it first appeared. Porto’s top-level talent did what Porto’s top-level talent usually do. Still, a more realistic value could be to sit alongside Pepe, Alberto Costa and Deniz Gul on one side. Meanwhile, Bernardo Fontes finished second.

This is a far more practical shortlist than just writing down the biggest names and moving on.

Some NFL scouts think first-round draft prospect has degenerative knee condition

Each NFL team has a different draft board, with some prospects ranking higher than others. Generally, the status of a potential client depends mostly on their film, measurables or character. However, there are some rare cases when an athlete has a history of injury.

Most injuries are not serious enough to have a major impact on a player’s future, although some are more serious than others. Sometimes injuries not only ruin a player’s season, but can also impact the rest of his career.

The same could happen with Tennessee’s Jarmod McCoy, who is projected to be a first-round pick. LSU’s Mansur Delaney is considered the top cornerback prospect, but McCoy is often ranked right behind him despite overcoming a torn ACL that wiped out his 2025 season.

While McCoy is expected to be healthy for Week 1, some NFL evaluators are concerned about his long-term health.

According to NFL insider Tony Pauline of Essential Sports, some teams have “red flagged” McCoy for a possible “degenerative knee condition.”

“Over the past two days, multiple sources have told me that multiple teams have red-flagged the combine medical of Tennessee defensive back Jermod McCoy, who missed last season after suffering a knee injury in January 2025. The information received additional confirmation after asking others. I’ve been told that red flags were raised after teams deemed McCoy’s knee a degenerative condition. But, of course, medical opinions vary from team to team. Because there is no central body to govern a physical one.”

Tony Pauline on Jermod McCoy

This could cause McCoy’s stock to drop to the point where some teams have removed him from their draft boards entirely. Still, other teams may not agree with this assessment, which is why McCoy could still be a first-round pick. Just needs a team to clear him medically and believe McCoy has a bright future in the NFL.

Manchester United and Chelsea transfer scouts will be at Aston Villa on Thursday

santiago castro

bologna trip Aston Villa Chelsea and Manchester United scouts will be keeping an eye on the game on Thursday.

Both clubs will keep an eye on the striker santiago castroWho saw his rise to stardom in the last two seasons.

He has scored 11 times in all competitions this season, also assisting four times. He performed strongly against AS Roma in the previous round of the Europa League and played a role in Bologna’s 4–3 victory in extra time.

Castro has already surpassed his figures from last season, when he found the net ten times in all competitions.

sports witness England’s interest in Argentina has been covered before. Manchester United and Chelsea are now likely to be in particular focus.

Santiago Castro publicized by the local press

bologna newspaper Il Resto del Carlino There is a report which praises the little striker. They describe him as a talent ‘ready for the biggest stages’, noting how he produces his best performances in European competitions.

Therefore the match against Aston Villa will be very important for him. Even in the first phase, many clubs kept a close eye on the 21-year-old player.

Manchester United and Chelsea scouts will do the same on Thursday. It is unclear whether they saw him in the first leg, but it is a sign that the chances of Santiago Castro ending up in England are increasing.

Or at least that’s what Il Resto is trying to say.

They also clarify that Castro has recently signed a new deal. If clubs come calling in the summer, it is likely to increase Bologna’s asking price.

Our opinion: Bologna would love sale to England

The Rossoblu have an excellent track record of selling their best players to English clubs.

The exits of Riccardo Calafiori, Joshua Zirkzee and Dan Ndoye saw them receive more than €100m. This makes it clear why they would love to sell Santiago Castro to Manchester United or Chelsea.

Furthermore, adding those two clubs to the field would help Bologna raise their price tag. In the past, West Ham and Nottingham Forest have also been mentioned.

Since Bologna will play in England, there would be no better opportunity to promote their player in the best possible way.

Green Bay Packers scouts have high chances for Day 2

The Green Bay Packers do not have a first-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, complicating the team’s ability to address some glaring needs ahead of a season with Super Bowl aspirations. However, the other day there is someone their front office would reportedly love to get.

According to ESPN’s NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller, Green Bay has been “widely linked” to cornerback in the 2026 NFL Draft and has spent a potential Day 2 pick at the position. According to Miller, one name worth keeping in mind is San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson, who has “a lot of fans” in the scouting department.

RELATED: Packers GM reveals team will add key positions in 2026 NFL Draft

Packers reporter Rob Demowski also shared that cornerback is widely viewed within the organization as one of the top Packers draft needs. While Green Bay still likes KeySean Nixon, they want to add another “impact player” to start opposite him.

Corner is an obvious issue on the Packers’ depth chart. For now, the team will start Nixon and Carrington Valentine on the outside, with only Benjamin Saint-Juste, Kamal Hayden and Shemar Bartholomew as boundary corner options behind them.

RELATED: Potential Green Bay Packers backup QB options

For a team already facing questions about its ability to generate pressure while Micah Parsons (ACL tear) is sidelined, and he’s also thin on the interior, help in the secondary is vital. Of course, it’s far from certain that Johnson is still available at the 52nd overall pick.

Coming out of San Diego State, Johnson certainly matches the length requirements that Green Bay prioritizes at 6-foot and 193 pounds with 30 5/8″ arms. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared him to cornerback Byron Murphy, highlighting Johnson’s scheme versatility with good footwork, excellent ability to mirror into coverage, and good ball skills.

Manchester United and Tottenham send scouts for €50m signing – Premier League battle building

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur could compete in the summer for Besiktas captain Orkun Koçku, whose return to form has sparked serious interest in England and beyond.

The Fanatic reports that After a slow start to the season, the 25-year-old has performed strongly, attracting interest from Europe’s elite.

According to their information, Manchester United and Tottenham are keeping a close eye on him, including ahead of Besiktas’ recent clash with Kasımpaşa, where he reportedly scored ‘high marks’.

manchester united midfield refresh

United’s recruitment team are actively monitoring their dynamic midfield profile ahead of the summer window.

Koçku’s mix of press resistance, ball progression and leadership fits the club’s effort for a younger, more mobile midfield core.

Meanwhile, Tottenham may look to strengthen their midfield this summer. This will certainly be the case if Joao Palinha’s loan from Bayern Munich is not made permanent. Today a report says that this will not happen.

inter milan interest

Manchester United and Tottenham are not the only sides showing interest. Inter Milan is also making efforts.

According to The Fanatic, the Serie A leaders are keen to add Kokkou as part of their long-term midfield succession plan. Their interest could cause problems for the Premier League pair.

Besiktas set their price

Besiktas has made its stance clear. There will be no sales unless the offer is ‘astronomical’. €50 million is the minimum price they will consider for the 25-year-old.

He is currently valued at €25m by Transfermarkt and has never been valued higher than €35m in 2023. But Besiktas see the midfielder at the center of their plans and will only negotiate if a major European side forces their hand.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United or Tottenham are willing to pay €50m. For now, it appears they are only searching for a midfielder. But he could be an interesting name to move into in the summer window.

Report reveals NBA scouts and executives are serious about NY Knicks’ chances in the 2026 playoffs

It seems like many scouts and executives around the NBA aren’t too excited about the New York Knicks’ chances of reaching the NBA Finals this spring.

There is no doubt that the NY Knicks are one of the best teams in the NBA at the moment. They have the fifth-best record in the league (42-25) and are in the top 10 in scoring (117.2) and points (110.9). Additionally, they have won over elite teams in the West like the San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets.

But that’s the regular season. The question on many NY Knicks fans’ minds is whether the inconsistent team can put everything together when it matters most in the playoffs. On Friday, SNY Knicks insider Ian Begley spoke with several NBA scouts and executives about how the team stacks up against other playoff teams in the East, and the reactions weren’t good.

Scouts and executives don’t like the NY Knicks’ chances against the East Elite this spring

First up, the Detroit Pistons. “(For the Knicks), how do you slow down (Cade) Cunningham? When he played at MSG (to start the second half of the season) he had his way against entire defenses, including (OG) Anunoby,” one scout said. New York lost the season series against Detroit 3–0 this season, often losing badly.

When it comes to the Boston Celtics, scouts and executives are leaning heavily on superstar Jayson Tatum following his return from rehabbing his torn ACL. He feels, despite being in second place in the Eastern Conference standings, Boston is now the team to beat this spring.

An executive told Begley, “Yes, there will be an adjustment period (from Tatum’s return), but they have won together in the past. I don’t think it will hurt them in any way.” “If Tatum gets his groove back, they’ll be the team to beat in the East. No disrespect to (the Knicks), but they’ve shown during the regular season that they’re the better team. If Tatum gets back to even 80 percent, that makes them obviously better.”

Another interesting opinion coming out of the report is that while the NY Knicks have the third-best record in the conference and will be favorites in the series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, there is a real possibility of an upset if they meet in the conference semi-finals.

“History says you don’t have to worry about (James) Harden in big playoff games, but he’s playing at a high level for them. I wouldn’t want to deal with (Harden and Donovan Mitchell) for seven games,” one scout said.

So when it comes to matchups against the three teams that will be the biggest threats in the conference, the game’s scouts and executives aren’t feeling confident about the NY Knicks’ chances in this year’s playoffs.

Newcastle United scouts pick four names for tonight’s Europa League match

Newcastle United will have a scout ahead of Genk’s Europa League clash with Dinamo Zagreb in Belgium today.

he is According to SporzaJoe says Newcastle will be one of 23 scouts present for the game.

According to his information, ‘dozens of scouts’ from all over Europe will be present for the Europa League match. At least 23 people have registered for the game at Cegaica Arena.

The Premier League has strong representation, with Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle, Fulham, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Bournemouth all sending scouts.

The clubs have not made it clear who they are tracking. The obvious candidate would be Kos Karetsas, but he will be out of the match due to injury. Sport Witness covered a report last March detailing Newcastle’s interest in him.

Genk stars on Newcastle United radar

However, Sporza has named a number of options, stating that Zakaria El Ouhadi, Ymir Medina and Mats Smeets have attracted interest from several foreign clubs in recent weeks. It is unclear whether Newcastle is among them.

Another name could be Ibrahima Sori Bangoura. A report in May linked the Magpies with an interest in the midfielder.

On paper, Genk’s journey isn’t so surprising. They are a breeding ground for talent, having developed and sold a growing list of players over the past decade or more. In fact, he has made no less than €169m on transfers in the last five years alone.

The current crop is also earning praise for its performance. Many like Karetsas are already being linked with big money moves this summer.

It wouldn’t be a surprise for Newcastle to be added to the mix. In fact, targeting young players could be a smart strategy for Eddie Howe’s side moving forward while they remain restricted in the transfer window.

For now, it appears all eyes are on Genk and their clash with Zagreb tonight. It will be interesting to see who shines and who doesn’t in the presence of so many scouts.
