Memphis loses another player to season-ending surgery

The situation continues to worsen on the injury front for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Another Grizzlies player has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA season, as Santi Aldama was recently injured due to knee problems. He will no longer see action on this campaign.

“Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama underwent a successful arthrosporic procedure and received an orthobiological injection today to relieve discomfort in his right knee. He will miss the remainder of the 2025-2026 season and is expected to be healthy for the start of the 2026-2027 season,” ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, formerly of the Ax, shared via a social media post on Twitter on Tuesday.

It has been over a month since Aldama last played a game, which was a February 4 meeting with the Sacramento Kings. The 25-year-old big man finished his fifth season in the league with averages of 14.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists through 43 games, including 11 starts – all career highs.

Memphis entered Tuesday in 11th place in the Western Conference standings with a 23-44 record, 9.5 games out of last place in the conference play-in tournament picture. Given the long odds for the Grizzlies to make the play-ins, let alone the NBA Playoffs, the decision to have Aldama undergo a procedure before the season ends rather than in the summer seems like a smart move.

Aldama was joined on the sidelines by guards Scottie Pippen Jr., Zach Eddy and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, all four of whom were ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

Meanwhile, GG Jackson and Olivier-Maxence Prosper can be expected to enjoy solid minutes amid this development on Aldama, who was a first-round pick by the Utah Jazz in 2021.

Scottie Pippen Jr. has season-ending toe surgery

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without a key contributor for the remainder of the season, as guard Scottie Pippen Jr. has season-ending toe surgery.

According to ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel, Pippen underwent a successful sesamoidectomy on Tuesday to relieve discomfort in his right big toe. The procedure will sideline him for the remainder of the 2025–26 campaign, although he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2026–27 season.

“The Grizzlies’ Scottie Pippen Jr. underwent a successful sesamoidectomy today to relieve discomfort in his right big toe.

Pippen will miss the remainder of the season and is expected to be ready for the start of the 2026-27 season.

Pippen last appeared on March 7 in Memphis’ 123–120 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. In that outing, he recorded 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal while shooting 4-for-7 from the field and 2-for-3 from the free throw line, including a three-pointer in 23 minutes.

Scottie Pippen Jr.’s season-ending surgery adds to Grizzlies’ season-ending struggles

The 25-year-old just finished his fourth NBA season and third with Memphis, providing steady production in a limited sample size. In 10 games, including six starts, Pippen averaged 11.4 points, 4.7 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game. He also posted a career-high 1.9 steals per contest while shooting 44.8% from the field, 31.3% from beyond the arc and a career-best 78.3% from the free throw line in 21.2 minutes per game.

His absence increases the challenges for the Grizzlies team going through a difficult period at the end of the season. Memphis currently has a 23-44 record and is on an eight-game losing streak.

The Grizzlies will try to regroup when they return home to open a two-game homestand against the Denver Nuggets (41-27) on Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 pm ET as Memphis looks to stabilize its rotation and end the season on a strong note despite Pippen’s absence.

Vince Williams Jr. to undergo season-ending ACL surgery

Utah Jazz forward Vince Williams Jr. has suffered a torn left ACL and will undergo season-ending surgery, league sources told ClutchPoints on Tuesday. An MRI Tuesday morning confirmed Utah’s initial fears, and Williams will spend most of the upcoming offseason recovering from this major knee injury.

The injury occurred on Monday night, when the Jazz were on the road to face the Houston Rockets. With about nine minutes left in the second quarter, Williams was running alongside Terry Eason after Utah turned the ball over. In transition, Eason appeared to intentionally bump Williams to get a better position for a 2-on-1 opportunity.

Then Williams’ right knee buckled under him and moved inward. He immediately fell to the ground, holding his right knee in front of the jazz bench. Will Hardy was angry at the officials for not making the call, as Eason’s physical position with Williams in the game could have easily been considered an offensive foul.

Williams, who was in obvious pain, did not put any weight on his leg as Jazz staff members carried him to the locker room.

According to the Deseret News, after the game, Eason went to the Jazz locker room and checked on Williams, and said he had great “respect” for him and had no “intention” to injure him. Eason apologized for the unfortunate injury and clarified that he had no intention of trying to hurt Williams during the game.

“Not feeling very good,” Hardy said succinctly in his postgame comments. “That’s not basketball.”

Williams was traded to the Jazz on February 3 in an eight-player deal with the Memphis Grizzlies that also sent All-Star big man Jaren Jackson Jr. to Salt Lake City. Jackson was recently signed off by the Jazz and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA season after undergoing surgery to remove a localized pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) growth in his left knee.

In six games with the Jazz, Williams averaged 4.7 points and 3.2 rebounds in approximately 14.0 minutes per game. This season, he has shot 35.3 percent from the floor and 31.1 percent from 3-point range with Memphis and Utah.

Jusuf Nurkic undergoes season-ending nose surgery

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Utah Jazz have suffered several injuries over the past few weeks, and they have just announced another injury, as Jusuf Nurkic will miss the remainder of the season.

“BREAKING: Utah Jazz starting center Jusuf Nurkic will have nose surgery on Wednesday, knocking him out for the remainder of the season, league sources tell me,” Haynes wrote on Twitter.

Nurkic has missed the last few games due to injury and will be out for the season. The Jazz had announced just over a week earlier that Jaren Jackson Jr. would miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his left knee to ensure his long-term health.

The Jazz have been a topic of discussion for the past month due to accusations of tanking, and Nurkic’s recent news probably doesn’t make those claims any better. The Jazz were fined for sitting Jackson and Lauri Markkanen in the fourth quarter of one of their games earlier in the month, but head coach Will Hardy said they were under a minutes restriction.

The league may have thought differently, as they are trying to land teams throwing games for the purpose of better draft positioning in the future.

All 30 general managers were recently sent a memo detailing how the NBA plans to make changes to the anti-tanking rule for next season, including first-round picks being protected for only the top-4 or top-14+, lottery prospects being held at the trade deadline or at a later date, and other scenarios.

The Jazz are currently 18-39 and 13th in the Western Conference standings, and with recent injuries, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them continue their decline as the season continues. This will help them get better chances at the top picks, which can help them build their team with more exceptional talent.
